I heard the ssong when Eric Idle was a guest on the syndcated Dr. Demento radio show back in 79, or 80. I recorded it on 8 track tape (LOL). Many thanks!
I swear I've read that there was a Dirk & Stig video shot for the A-side... around the same time Idle and Innes directed George's clips for Crackerbox Palace and Blow Away, respectively. Never tracked down so much as a frame of it yet, though. It's as elusive as the Bonzo Dog Band tracks George and Ringo recorded for the aborted tribute album!
BTW, I would swear that's Micky Dolenz' face on the sleeve... But of course he only ever worked with Palin & Jones! (See: ua-cam.com/video/yHeW4Jx2AKc/v-deo.html )
A legend of motorsport. Rest in Peace Mr. Sheene nr. 7 🙏🏽❤️🇬🇧
If you love the Rutles/Python, make sure to get Dirk and Ron's "Rutland Express" record. It has many great songs from both of them.
Are you talking about “Rutland Weekend Television Song Book?”

Oh wow! It was a Halloween show! Yep, 79 or 80. I recorded the program on cassette and then wore the tape out. Good times
I as well :)
Happy 70th Barrie Sheene
I haven't heard this before, it's a great laugh. Shades of George Formby. :-)

You're right - Eric talked about it. I think it involved a bunch of ladies dressed like Brownie Scouts.
Dr Demento material for sure!
This song kinda reminds me of Maxwell's Silver Hammer from The Beatles-maybe it could be an equivalent?
This reminds me of the song "I Like Chinese"
The Rutles solo careers
is there a connecting musical etymology between dirk/stig/the ruttles/bonzo dog band in this song?

Do I detect a proto version of the infinite monkey cage there?
Sad that the STIG part of the band is covered by the Dirk. I guess this is karma for not being on the Rutles album 😂
Nothing dirty in this song... :'P
Mr. Sheene.... It's a clean machine
