Sad that the STIG part of the band is covered by the Dirk. I guess this is karma for not being on the Rutles album 😂

If you love the Rutles/Python, make sure to get Dirk and Ron's "Rutland Express" record. It has many great songs from both of them.

A lot of people thought this was a cheap cash in sonsidering side two was incidental music from the film, and half of side one had already been on other Rutles records, but I still enjoy this album today.

My grandparents always tell me about how when this album came out, people thought Stig O'Hara might be dead for the mere fact that he's not wearing any pants on the front cover. They also pointed out other clues on other Rutles albums, like Stig being in the position of a dying Yeti on the back cover of the Sgt. Rutter's album, and secret messages hidden in songs, like somebody whispering "I Buried Stig" on I Am The Waitress on The Tragical History Tour album. Stig had allegedly died in a tragic fire at a waterbed shop. It all turned out to be the wild imagination of some crazed fan who had a little too much tea one night, and Stig was very much alive and well at the time.

Hol' up, DIRK is dead clue and not Stig? If you look on the cover, there are two Dirks. One in the condimentor, and the other in the Sgt. Rutter's image.

Ah, yes. The project that turned out to be a film, an album, and a LAWSUIT! Only put out after Shabby Road to fulfill contractual obligations, and even then Ron DeCline was robbing them blind. (Ron Nasty should've heeded Stig O'Hara's warning about Mr. DeCline)

I recently found A CD of How Sweet To Be An Idiot with 8 bonus tracks Yay1 Iam a life long Bonzos-Monty Python-Rutles fan. I got to see Neil play live in 2006 in Toronto. He had a new album called Works In Progress and I grabbed it from the review pile at NOW magazine where I was employed at the time . He played at the Jane Mallet Theatre. He played the entire album plus some Rutles and Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band tunes. He stayed afterwards in the lobby where he signed everything each concert goer brought for him to sign. I have my Tadpoles album with his signature on my living room wall that I look at every day. He reminds me to take life with a large dose of humour each and every day. A brilliant singer-songwriter band leader from the last half century talent pool, he's among the best in my heart, mind and soul. Watch Concert For George Harrison DVD from Royal Albert Hall and them singing the lumberjack song, the ending is hilarious. Thank you Neil James Innes for great music and belly laughs and the joy you brought to many fans around this earth.

There's a beat combo from I think, Liverpool, who did a good job of covering their favorite 1950s early 1960s American rock n roll songs, and I remember hearing their later efforts, which sound very much like the Ruttles. I was reading the Rutles were very pleased about being influential and never even thought about bringing any legal action. Nice guys!
