The days of two-stroke bikes was the greatest times , they ran like hell and did lap times no one thougt possible and the sound and smell was awsom , best days
That RD is pretty small - how many friends did you have on it? Joking of course. I had a friend in HS he had a Suzuki 500 twin. I saw him with as many as 3 more on the bike.
It's great that Roberts and Sheene were able to become good friends. I was a late comer to motorcycles, 30 when I started in dirt bikes, but I did get to see Roberts race the dirt in person at Santa Fe Park, which was near my house and at Indy, Du Quion, Peoria, before he left for Europe.
Agostini, Roberts, Rossi, and Marquez paved the way for motorcycle and tire development reaching 60° lean angles and dragging both knees and elbows today on two tires.
What a race Bazza 🇬🇧 and King Kenny 🇺🇸 where the class of the field during the late 70s and early 80s and the 1979 British MotoGP is the best example of why they where the best in there time RIP Bazza 🇬🇧🏍🇬🇧🏍🇬🇧🏍🇬🇧
I was on the pitwall for this one after getting chucked out of the Honda area for taking photos of the NR500 ( asked the mechanics and they said no prob !)
I was there on race day & got both Barrys & Kennys signature side by side on a £1.00 note by being a bit crafty as they would never sign on the same document,we were there at the the to Silver Dream racer being filmed.
I'm younger and also came to MotoGP 2 years ago, didn't know much about the sport's history. Watching these old clips I'm struck by how raw and direct the scene is, these days it's more managed and contained. I couldn't imagine the riders digging out one of the Dorna administrators on camera like Barry Sheen at the start of this clip. I don't necessarily agree the racing is THAT much different, I think that's probably a side effect of growing older and the good old days, although there is a lot that has been lost in the culture of the sport for sure. The new version has its appeal in a different way, more tech and militaristic somehow.
I find it curious as Kenny was wearing a Goodyear cap. At that time I was working as an apprentice at the Goodyear factory in Sydney Australia. It was behind Rose hill racecourse. We had a heap of slicks stored there no one wanted. Story was they would blister at high speed, ie Conrad.
New to the bike racing (motoGP and other series) fandom, I have found watching the older races where the announcers didn't talk through the whole race, rather only announcing key events etc... seems so much better. IDK... as I said, I'm new..
Poor old Barry. Like any real racer all he ever wanted was to get on his bike and race and being surrounded by officious officials just got on his tits. I'd seen the clip below a few times before an Aussie mate told me that the commentator was Barry Sheene after he had moved to Oz because the weather in Britain gave him such pain in the nuts and bolts that were holding his body together: ua-cam.com/video/Fooox6hbjzM/v-deo.html
Sounds like the handle bar levers are hitting the fairing an they want it to have clearence..it good barry is fired up he will race better he awake now an perturbed i bet he nsils thr start....

One of the greatest, fiercest ( and most sporting ) duels ever
This period of GP racing was so much more exciting than today.
Today is like watching old ladies on vespa, these guys and bikes were awesome in comparison.

Rose tinted glasses
If that is what you think.
Then you probably wasn't there.
@@squigmcguigan8965 nah I agree, typical rose tinted glasses. The two strokes were great, but this era has had it's awesome moments too
2 great unforgettable kings of motorcycling together. R.I.P. Barry!!!We're gratefully thanks for all these wonderful times!!!
I was at Silverstone to witness this race as a 17 year old , I travelled from home with mates on my Rd200 . Thank you for posting .😊

@@randydewees7338 I was solo - there was a group of us that travelled, sorry I didn’t make that clear. 😊
@@plaistowboy2792 For sure, I couldn't help myself. I had a RD125 back then, same bike but less power, I rode the wheels off it.
@@randydewees7338 🏍️ 👏
Me too. I was 18 I rode up from Brighton on my Suzuki GT 250. Great days. Barry has never been replaced in gp bike racing.
A great illustration of huge competitiveness, but also 100% trust, between two sporting giants in motorcycling....
『2人とも最高のレースが出来た事が嬉しくて、順位なんて大した問題じゃ無くなってた』って言ってたな。
歴史に残る好レース😊

My heroes when I was a young lad.

I recall my sporting idols in the the mid to late 70's were Muhammad Ali, George Best, James Hunt and Barry Sheene.
Thats cool to see kenny an barry having a laugh....cant help when u have a personality humor slips out....thanks
I was there that day, a great weekend
Great race, I still have my Grandstand ticket I think it was just over £8. A Bargain in today's money.

Preciosa la Yamaha de K. R.
I was there .
Man I miss two strokes
Same as in go-kart racing. The four strokes they use now sound like lawnmowers.
Pertamax (frist)😁🙏
Roberts to be fair had better machinery here as Barry's Suzuki was really no match for the Yamaha.

This drama was all staged by Roberts and Sheen.
