Chelsea, how do you prevent yourself from becoming overwhelmed? With a large family, your animals, a hugely productive garden, your business and all that land, the work is endless and constantly evolving. You must be a very calm and organised lady and every time i watch one of your videos, I'm impressed by your work ethic. I'm really looking forward to seeing what this year brings for you and Dan.
Every few months I hit overwhelm and take a day or two just to lay in bed and rest. I also nap. Maybe not the best strategies, but they work for me.
@LittleMountainRanch whatever works for you is the right thing to do and I genuinely wish you every success.
Her kids help too, so not having to do everything is key. My kids do their own laundry, and bedding help with dishes, sweeping and moping. Routine is helpful as well.
Running your hands lightly over the seedlings also helps strengthen stems. And who doesn’t like petting plants 🪴 😊
I thought I was the only weird one that did it.
@@shirley7137 me too haaaa
Glad to see someone besides me still cuts up yogurt tubs for tags. Saves a ton of money
I got this tip from Chelsea and have passed it on to a couple friends. 😍🇨🇦
Did you know that Woodpeckers have an area on the front of their brains that acts as a impact insulater which stops them getting brain damage when they do their drilling. Or knocking themselves out 😊
I did not! Thank you!
A labor of love for sure. I live vicariously through your gardening.
If you think about it the plants start and finish in the kitchen lol. Love seeing spring gardens start.
Thank you! It’s difficult for city dwellers (like me) to envision the scope of work you and your family have to manage! Wonderful (informative) video with some beautiful images to enjoy.
Kudos to Dan for getting that piece of equipment running, and making it look so good. I bet dozing those stumps out is very satisfying. Gorgeous property. Looks like paradise. Wyoming has been decimated by the pine bark beetle. We have huge areas of dead lodgepole pines, and quite a few of those areas have burned. Summers are short here too, we were staining fences last fall right up to cold weather.
I begged my dad to get or rent a rock picker - I was the rock picker and log rail peeler . It took me forever it seemed to pick our riding arena , it was big and I was sure he added more to clear to it every couple of days .
I hope you're seedlings all come up, must admit I like Dan's idea about putting bunkies in that beautiful area. Told you super Dan, you two are going to be very busy this year and next year but it sounds really exciting good look.
Thanks for sharing bits of your lives, your hopes & dreams & the reality of getting things done in very busy lives! I love your content & feel like you are a friend in my kitchen with me! Blessings to all 🤗🇨🇦
I have Sweet Cicely that has self-seeded for years here in Vancouver. They over winter after dying down and I get 2 crops. A pretty plant with a high sugar content and a licorice flavour. My lemon balm is aggressive and invasive so I harvest when it is fresh and have to pull up a lot later on.
Have been thinking about making kombucha so thank you for showing us.
Your property is lovely with the varied terrain and your plans for it.❤
😊
Chelsea, you always seems so upbeat. I would love to live next to you . Can you give me a quick recipe and method for enchilada sauce, that is something I’ve never tried but would like to try
Do you have a cook book just on sauces and preserves I would love to buy a book like that. I just watched the lambs being born and that was very worthwhile.
That husband of yours works hard (so do you). I'm impressed!
Have you thought of investing in solar panels for your growing room? I'm sure it would alleviate the cost of having those lights on so much...plus the panels could be hooked up to your family room downstairs for the electronics I'm sure your family will be using there...
You make it look so easy. 😊
9:29 I can SO relate. I only have a mini farm and garden, but I’m constantly putting out fires, pivoting to whatever is currently most important. We were just getting ready to start our new shed build when a toilet tank sprung a leak. We tried fixing it, but it didn’t hold. So if we’re going to replace the toilet, we might as well do the bathroom project! We’ve been buying components little by little, but the project was still in the future. Not anymore! Such is life.
Btw, my family laughs at how tuned in to the weather forecast I am. It controls so many projects lol
👍🙏👍🙏👍🙏You‘ve done all great work together😃
Looking forward to this kombucha process. Ive wanted to try making it from a store bought bottle. Im going to get the GT Plain when I go to town next and get it going. 👍
I always enjoy watching your videos ❤❤❤
So happy you are doing a guide to kombucha! Have you made kimchi at all?
Please video when you smoke the peppers! That's something I've been wanting to do too but playing with fire kinda scares me.
You have big plans may they all come true
I've made a SCOBY (Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast) from GTS kombucha in the past. My location didn't have plain so I used ginger. I, however, did not use the entire bottle. I used about 4 oz of the GTS kombucha and made sure it had some of the sediment. I wish I had folk to give SCOBYs because I ended up with a SCOBY hotel!!!! I might restart my kombucha making. Right now I'm doing homemade Kefir.
❤ ☕Kombucha making tip ☕❤
Use a gallon size jar with a spigot. I ended up using a rubber band to keep the cloth on. Drain though the spigot, the SCOBY is left behind, add new sweet tea and repeat. With each batch a new SCOBY does form, so eventually you'll have to gift, eat or toss a few.
That special area that is perfect for a small homestead would be great for one of your kids!!!
I wish I had my children close! (But still independent)
I add a Mylar sheet (Dollar store) in front of my shelves to help reflect the light back. Comes in handy especially when I have to turn the trays!!
He needs his own saw mill to saw his own lumber for bunkers and animal sheds as well as a log splitter to make cutting wood for heat . Small mills are not that expensive. My husband has one, and it's awesome he even saws cross ties to sell to the lumber yard .
We have one, just too busy to mill our own wood right now. Soon hopefully.
Exciting!!
So exciting to see your property and your ideas for the future. Seed starting is here! Yay!💚
💚 Thanks for all the uodates and shares, Chelsea! I've got to get my seeds started soon!💚
Beautiful homestead!
Maybe you could sell some of that burned slash material as biochar.
good job u 2!
Looking forward to seeing what you do.
Back-to-back Dan appearances! Very cool LOL Y'all know we subscribers love that. You covered a lot of ground today, literally. I can see the new cabin on the upper ridge now. Excellent view and serenity. I think I need to invest in the soil blocker like yours. That just makes so much sense. Can't wait to see how the new tomatoes turn out in the coming weeks. Have a GREAT day and God bless
Another great video. I’m excited to see all the beautiful veggies you get from your garden this summer.
Thank you for your varied and superb homestead videos! God bless!
Thank you! You too!
Excited to start my kombucha making journey - this video was well timed! Planning to get my scoby started this week
How many acres do you have? Love to watch the bunkie project. Would love one myself sometime. 🥰
160. They are so awesome! If you do end up getting one let me know and I'll pass on my discount.
Started following you late last summer…Excited to follow along with your Beautiful gardening this year!! 🥰🙏🏻❤️
❤❤❤
Oh my gosh the new meadow will be so wonderful and what a huge job that is!! The seedlings are making my heart sing :) I very often get weeds in my potting soil. However I always think well at least its got no pecticides in it. Not sure if that is correct but I feel better thinking that..Oh those tomato seeds!!! I am so getting inspired. Can't start for about six weeks yet though. loved this. hugs
Chelsea u have a big beautiful. Property that’s a shame about the Beatles attacking your trees that tea sound so yum when it’s made have a great day and enjoy your family
We have fir beetles, too. It's decimating our firs 😢
It is so sad.
Such beautiful land you have! How many acres do you have?
Try roman great for sauces
💖💖💖
You could do an air b and b in the second cabin if yu build one
I used your smoked paprika method last year, goodness I’ve got a ton of smoked paprika!
Did you like it?
Have you ever tried to decapitate very young tomato plants? leaving just the lowest bottom leaves? this will give you a strong double plant!
Woodpeckers really ARE something. They have to close their eyelids to keep their eyeballs in their heads when they peck😂
❤
You are really lucky everything is beautiful! We’re from Southeastern Ohio we are in Zone 6 !!!I have stage 4 ovarian cancer ! They don’t know what going on with my blood my palettes and white count are all over the charts ! Seen another specialists and waiting on test results . Couldn’t get my chemo again so this time they gave me a blood transfusion instead first one of those
Prayers and blessings for you and yours❤️✝️🕊🙏🏼
Sending love your way!
Am sending prayers. Ciao
🙏🙏🙏
🙏🙏🙏🙏
I know that every year, environmental factor changes, but Brandywine tomatoes are my nemesis. I usually end up with fungus that spreads to my other varieties and they end splitting, rotting and dropping early.
Thank you so much. You are really inspiring me, I’ve already started a bunch of seeds. 🤞🏻
One question, I bought the china markers. How do I sharpen them? I guess it’s to do with peeling the paper but I’ve had a go and can’t seem to figure it out! There’s also a little string that I’ve tried pulling. 🤷🏼♀️
Pull it hard, but just down a little and peel the paper. 😊
What do you do with the wood? Wood to burn as fuel or do you use the wood to build??
The plateau looks great ! Well done Dan. Have you given any thought to putting the slash piles along the edge of the plateau to help prevent water erosion and that way, no burning would need to be done too. Unfortunately, the beetles like the older trees because they are weaker and more stressed. Your starts look great - Are you planning on trimming out the main leader of the snap dragons when they get about 4 " tall so they bush out more. You can always root the cutting as well. I started my peppers a week ago - might be too early...but oh well. Tomatoes will wait a few weeks. Good video!
Hey, friend. Yes, we were just talking about pushing the piles along the edge. And definitely going to cut the main leader off the snaps.
@@LittleMountainRanch Hey! Good stuff!
Loved seeing your land and all the improvements. So sad to hear of the fir beetles. Am familiar with the pine bark beetle, but just learned of the fir from your video. Just curious, do you use your iPhone to share the videos, or a dslr? You make filming look so easy, but I’m sure it’s not. Thanks!
DSLR. It’s definitely not easy, but I’ve been doing it for long enough it’s become like second mature.
When you showed the first tree with a woodpecker hole, the tree looked like it had beautiful Unesa growing on it. Do you ever use that medicinally?
That's completely new to me!
@@LittleMountainRanch Well, I spelt it wrong I just noticed, it's Usnea (Usnea spp.) If indeed it is, it can be used as a tincture, powder or infusion. It's antifungal, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antimicrobial and also an immune stimulant. As an herbalist here in New Jersey, USA, my eyes are always finding plants!!! 🌱
I haven’t tried them but snapdragons are supposed to be edible, like pretty in a salad type use…? Something to try later.
Love your channel Chelsea! What is the board called that you put up in your grown room called and where did you purchase it? I’m in Ontario zone 3 and looking to do a room for myself. So excited for this years growing season!😊
We used puck board-for hockey rinks, but I wouldn’t use it again, as it expands and contracts quite a bit, plus I haven’t found a silicone that sticks well to it. I think there may be shower stall material in bulk and if so I think that would be better, or even tile? Good luck with your project! -Daniel
Just curious - what elevation are you at? Do fir trees only grow at high elevations?
One thing I love is lots of different kinds of herbs. And one more thing, are you going to make snapdragon tea?
I have never heard of it! You have me intrigued.
I’ve never heard of this either! Off to Google ….
Go to Google and look up a video SNAPDRAGON 🪻🪻🪻 TEA. HOW To Make IT
How can I order your cookbook? I’m in the USA.
My Aunt and Uncle lived in Sardis and Chilliwack B.C. and Dan sounds like my uncle...I think they have a B.C accent...My cousin lives in Kelowna....love your videos..
❤❤❤❤❤
Hello Chelsea! I have a question regarding the quality of your potting soil, is it possible to put trays of potting soil in the oven in order to kill/sterilize any weed seeds that may be present?
Yes, you can sterilize soil that way.
God has beautiful places all over His earth . Every creation of His responds to His seasons even us !!! John 14:6-7 John 14:9 Luke 17:2 KJV Bible !!! God Bless !!!
Do you add the wood ash in your garden?
Sometimes when I think of it.
I wish that I could grow a vegetable garden. Unfortunately, I live in an apartment with no balcony, and the management doesn't allow anyone to dig.
Hydroponics? There’s some great small setups for them.
Thought you had weeds growing in your potting soil last year.
Maybe the year before.
Last year it was sticks, but you might be right, I just don’t remember.
@@LittleMountainRanch
You had sticks in it when you opened up the soil bags, but you noticed weeds when your other plants started sprouting.
Did you mention how much land you have in total? I’m curious what your woods/pasture/ hy field ratio is.
160acres, 30-40 in hay, 20 in pasture and the rest forest.
We have woodpeckers that eat our internet wiring! I don’t think there are any insects in there.
They can be a real menace.
I have fungus gnats. Any suggestions of getting rid of them would be great. I have tried mosquito bits but i still have them.
Sand! MI Gardener just put out a video on this a few weeks ago. I have never had them but sand on the top of the soil apparently works great!
Thank you!!
Im looking for the discount code for the seed company you were talking about.

Thank you.. just put an order in.. 😊
Are the weed seeds in with your potting soil OR are they in with your seeds you are using? Might try just some soil blocks as a test. Make about six or so without any seeds, water and put under grow light and see what happens. ?????
I did exactly that and definitely weed seeds in the soil. Not an obscene amount though.
Maybe for your future kids house
Smart move to fire proof your ranch. Be surrounded with meadows or hay fields are the safest.
I've never tried to make kombucha from a bottle from the store. I haven't seen an unflavored one being sold either, usually they have ginger and other flavors. Will that work, does anyone know? I've tried with a Scoby I bought but nothing changed in the bottle. I'm discouraged. Blessings.
You could used a flavoured one, I’m pretty darn sure! Give it go and let me know how it goes.
I don't see the internet address for Moon Glow. I'm in the U.S., so maybe they're not allowed to ship to the U.S., so it's not printed in your video notes.
growersblend.ca LMR2024
What is a scoby?
It's the living material that converts the sweet tea to acidic kombucha. It forms an odd jelly-like mass at the top of the jar. You'll see in the next vid. 😃
Technically it's called a symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast. It is used to created fermented tea called kombucha.
@@Strattiffy sounds icky lol
Does your family eat deer and Moose?
Sometimes when it’s given to us. We don’t hunt though.
