I remember your saying that each time you had to cut floor beams, you'd get better and faster and more accurate. And you were right! Awesome work, all of you!
It’s amazing from when you started doing it all on your own and now it’s so amazingly fast! Good for you and your team 😀
It's such an amazing job !
Hand saw, chisels, hours amd days .... unreal!
I totally agree ❤😊
I can't wait till the top floor goes in and everything up there is stabilised. I think someone needs to work on the brick arch supports in the central wall, so that goes off ready for the top floor.
In the IT field, we have something called Lean Process Improvement, which is exactly what Dan has been doing over his time rebuilding the chateau. Starting out with the most basic process that you know works, and with each subsequent floor or noggin, consider how you can improve your process to make it more efficient and do the work faster, without losing accuracy. You and your team are a lean machine, Dan!
Lean is the 1990s version of organizational improvement that began around 1900 with Frederick Winslow Taylor. However, my favorite early acolyte of Taylor's was William Edwards Deming, who (along with other members of the Emergency Technical Committee) "Upon request by the War Department, the American Standards Association, in December, 1940, initiated a project on the application of statistical methods to the quality control of materials and manufactured products." "The revised drafts of Z1.1 and Z1.2 were unanimously approved by the Emergency Technical Committee and received ASA [American Standards Association] approval as American Defense Emergency Standards (later, War Standards) on May 27, 1941. Zl.3 was first approved in 1942." Throughout the 1950s, the ASA worked to standardized all manufacturing in the US. Lean was the system that Dr. Deming taught to Toyota post-war. Later Lean was re-imported to the US. I hope that you can forgive my pedantry ;) I'm a former Lean-Six Sigma consultant and retired Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality. I'm thrilled to see Team Chaumont thriving, but I'm also thrilled that you've noticed how your improvement system applies across multiple fields.
The Lean Process has been around for decades and used in a wide variety of industries.
In IT, can confirm. 10100010100110
Yes, the Lean process has been around for decades. Kudos to Dan and his Gang for bringing the chateau restoration industry along with the times.
@@denisevincent4050 reminds me of Cheaper by the Dozen! 😊❤
It is unreal how much you have learned and streamlined your processes. You and your team are simply incredible.
It is unreal how much we have learned....
I’ve been telling others his methods.
I totally agree 😂
My late father was saved in this place during WW2.
Wow
Incredible
Incredible! How wonderful.
@@גדעוןשרב Oh, My Gosh! That is stunning news. I’m so happy that you told me this. I wonder how seeing this phoenix from the ashes rise again must bring you joy! Thank you for responding ❤️🙏
I'm really glad that Dan has these amazing buddies helping him. That work is progressing a lot faster, and we can really witness the goals being achieved every day. Great work, done by incredibly hard-working fellows 😊
this is taking forever. This is the framing of a house. The framing of a house is supposed to take a month
@@davidanalyst671 who let you in here?
Rude
@@davidanalyst671
@@davidanalyst671 This is not framing and it's a restoration rather than a new build.
@@davidanalyst671 He's nearly there, it's only taken less than a year. Patience is a virtue - Dan and crew have loads of it along with vision, skill, gsoh, good looks and ingenuity..... what's the hurry?
Nick has been a real treasure in getting this rebuild done. A real Jack of all trades just like you Dan.
...and the only guy wearing a helmet! Age makes wise!
Good lord, is that a pair of safety glasses Dan?!
And…I hate to say it…but it’s time to finish that second arch.
😄🤓
I remember you doing with a handsaw and chisel and hoisting them one by one up to that first floor. Honestly, I’d have given up at the daunting thought of doing all those floors like that. Now you’re whipping through a dozen at a time with fab tools and that brilliant lifting gadget (the best of all the gadgets you have). Best part of my day watching you work this chateau back to life.
From Nick gently putting in a plant in soil to using brute strength helping build, thanks guys for showing character and determination and consistent work ethic. Such a rarity today!
I'm a 60 year old housewife and completely fascinated by your project, having done up a tiny French tumbled down ruin of a stone cottage 27 years ago, I wish I had access to the tools of the trade you use and the social media platforms to record it all. I am in awe of what you are doing. Looking forward to the last floor. What a fab team you have got. Bravo.
My favourite time of the day

Noggin time!

3:57 Man, Nick should be a model. The stoic expression coupled with an impressive beard, the tattoos, everything. He looks like a Greek philosopher,
Great work to the whole Chaumont crew!
It just goes to show what a difference good tools make. But you've earned them a hundred times over with your dedication and first year of working with most basic equipment.
It's a good day when Noggins go in. Thanks to the crew, Brian, Nick, Calvin, and you Dan.
Must say again. Its brilliant having all 4 of you there .
Collective noun for a group of noggins = a gaggle. Dan, the channel just keeps on giving 👏
Oh, I thought it was ' A Fascination of Noggins'.
Hey Dan, not sure if you'll see this, but please reconsider planting Himalayan balsam in your garden. It will take over and shade out the native woodland plants, and it will also monopolise all of the pollinating insects so that other native flora don't get a look in. It is a highly invasive species, even though it is pretty.
Birds singing in this video include common redstart and blackcap. The redstart seems to have been singing almost incessantly for a few weeks now!
You are so right. And I hope Dan will see your message because, since 2017, Himalayan Balsam has been included in the list of invasive alien species of concern for the European Union. This means that it cannot be imported, cultivated, marketed, planted, or intentionally released into the wild anywhere in the European Union. It is against the law.
I hope Dan sees your post! Don't want no Invasive plants, bro! GO LOCAL NATIVE
@@heliedecastanet1882If it's illegal to import it or sell it in the EU, where did they get it? It was obviously purchased as it was in a nursery grower's pot.
Blimey I just saw that, horrified, but it’s often just that folk don’t know.
@@heliedecastanet1882hopefully Dan has read this or Nick and removed it asap 💀💀💀💀💀
I'm so worried about that Arch! How did it ever last in one place after all those years. This chateau, this mansion, this gift of history, is so magical, I'm just in awe every time I watch the next video! Angels of the children that were hidden there and saved from a horrible fate watch over this property, and Daniel, Brian, Calvin, and Nick! Absolutely Magical. What you've all learned and worked through will be the fodder of amazing stories for decades to come. Someday I'll visit, and hopefully I'll meet you in person and hug you. God Bless. 👼👼👼👼👼
When you first started I was thinking that there’s absolutely no way! And panicked when you got rubble out with that narrow little board and wobbly wheel barrel. Watched every episode!!! I am so anxious to see what the very top will look like and how much brick work will be needed to get it back to its normal shape. You are so encouraging!!! Thank you Dan!❤❤❤
It's been so rewarding to watch your growth, your evolution as a restorer, renovator, constructor - seeing the improvements and how rapidly everything is moving now! Well done Dan and the team! I am definitely emotionally invested in this project and seeing you succeed! Thank you for bringing us on this journey with you!
A gaggle of noggins 😂😂😂. Can’t believe that next week will be the last floor to go in. Unbelievable. Sleep well lads, see you tomorrow K🇬🇧❤️❤️❤️❤️
This Chateau was built to last. The proof is that even after a fire, it's rising from the ash's little by little every day. With ur help and hard work and everyone who is helping u. It will fully come alive ❤
It is rising for a 2nd time!
Another proof the chateau was built to last...when Dan had built the last floor on the right side, and began clearing off the debris from the granite ledge to prepare for the roof, he found the granite ledges were level. Amazing! Even after 100+ years, and fire, and abandonment to the elements for 40 years. Absolutely amazing.
Nick the Brick delicately planting a flower made me appreciate and like Nick even more. 🇬🇧
Watching you do a whole set of floor joists in just a few passes is so gratifying I think I'm going to be a little sad when they're all done. I've been watching since the beginning, actually since before the beginning, back when you were Dan the gardener. From where you started to where you are today is amazing. This is, by far, my favorite You Tube channel.
I'm so, so glad you have so much documentation of your progress, your growth (not just progress on the house)
Nothing nicer than seeing man planting flowers! It makes me feel good about the state of the world 😊❤️ great progress, everyone! You’re all amazing at what you do ❤
“You’ve come a long way baby. “
Hand saw.. I forgot those days.
I remember when you were just a new dad who was bran spanken new to France working on a farm house with almost no skills and now look at you you have come so very far sure do miss the green machine though great job Dan keep up the good fight

There's something about brick work that captivates me, can't wait to see you doing that again!.
Look at you, Dan…all grown up and using your magnificent brain to problem solve so efficiently!
Nick is a horticulturalist the way he pads down those plants with the knuckles, lots of planting done.
But 4:02 I do pray that is a Bizzie-Lizzie of some sort and not its very close relative the pernicious up to 2m high exploding weed Himalayan Balsam? Please?
Planting by pickaxe ! Get that HB outta there !
@nannieg7622 I don't know the plant (here in the UK) but went for a google and it seems to be that. Info also says banned in the EU, but I assume they got all the plants from a commercial grower, who you'd think wouldn't be selling something like that 🤷♀️
The Timelapse when this is done is gonna go crazy
Seeing Orange-shorts-man doing the noggins, brought a tear to my eye. Such a sacred assignment delegated to a good mate 🙏 Beautiful , just beautiful, Dan 😭🤩❤️💪🙏
This has been the most gratifying restoration to watch
My husband watched your first couple of vlogs and said it’s too frustrating. I showed him your latest with all the equipment and your new methods, impressed !
The learning curve is amazing. You are a genius Dan. And there are no flies on the other 3 either. Keep going and stay safe 👍👍👍
Cool green safety glasses with matching green visor. I like it. Thank God for a team of friends helping you move forward .. I'm sure you'll need them with challenging times ahead and those precious puppies.
You started with very few tools, but you didn’t let that stop you!
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😁😁😁
Yup. "Learning curve" is quite real. Just remember, as I certainly do, that the REASON why it's going so well now, is that you patently, calmly, LEARNED. Right.
Four gorgeous men working smart and working hard.
All you chaps should do a calendar. Handsome, strong, rugged fine figures of a man. You are so brilliant. XX ❤
It is like watching child going from crawling, to stumbling to running. Oh, the progress. The channel is going to change soon from beams, joists and noggins to roofs and stuff. I am really enjoying the progress but I guess I am looking forward to things like doors, windows and ‘real’ stairs. Thanks for sharing and progress seems to make for 4 happy workers.
The learning process is achievable when you are alone in your own head without the chatter of others distractions/ opinions… good work much respect and love from Canada
❤️🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦
I loved the look back. What hasn’t changed is your attention to detail, your work ethic and your enthusiasm. Love your channel and your chateau.
Having the roof on will make this place so much safer to work in during winter.
Can you pre order windows for one wing of the chateau, budget permitting?
Once they are in, you could line the chimneys and install log burners in that wing.
That way you can heat the individual room you are working in, install drywall and wooden paneling without being so dependent on temperatures.
You can buy drywall that has insulation already on it. Use Rockwool in the ceiling. It’s less itchy than fiberglass.
Great job guys. At the speed you are working at, that roof will be on before the big summer heat hits.
Buying windows for this will cost an absolute fortune - thousands apiece. I know he intends to try making them and Axminster provided the gear to do it, it will be interesting to see how well he succeeds at that.
Drywall in a castle? Ouch.
@@fotter9567 not sure if the walls need drywall or plaster. I’m sure he will add paneling and moldings to the walls.
@@LaReynedEpee the windows look as big as the kitchen windows at Billy Petherick’s convent. I believe he said they were 5000 Euro per oak window.
I’m sure Amaury will guide Dan through the window making process. They had already talked about the basement windows. Amaury said they are easy to make. Dan saved an intact window frame as template.
I’ve watched since day one. It is amazing where you are now. Such a work ethic and fortitude and believing in yourself.
You’re all so great
I've started watching this channel when there wasn't any floors (except for ground floor) - it's so amazing to see all those floor after a year of hard work!
I remember how you figured out the cutting. Your new tools have made the work go much faster for you. So happy for you Dan. The flowers are so pretty! My grandmother always had these flowers that Nick just planted. She called them Touch Me Nots! A very old fashioned flower. Lovely! Brillient how you are moving the "Noggins" about now. You all have come a very long way with your methods!
Congratulations! So happy to see the progress made when you've got a team to support you!
Big Dan, cutting those beams was like the stone age, look how far you've come my friend, happy noggins to ya!!! We'll see ya tomorrow
As I was watching today's video, I was thinking of the other videos I watch and thinking that your crew is not just pretty faces and bodies but, they know how to work as a team, intelligent, driven, experienced, focused on the job, working with each other. You are very lucky having such a great crew!
Nice safety glasses, man!
"For the very last time!" Quite a few more of those to come, Dan! You have an amazing group of friends.
I guess Billy should be watching this, seeing he has a few noggins to go into the convent. What an amazing crew you have.
I did read Billy’s reply to a comment on his channel where he said he has consulted with the noggin master! 😂 I presumed he meant he’d spoken to Dan, I know he mentioned right at the start he watched Dan and was impressed by his work ethic, in fact he was among those who suggested we all pop over and give Dan our support, now look at him fly!
The views are exceptional from this level. You are all doing a beautiful job. Thank you for documenting for our enjoyment. Keep on with the great work you’re doing. Thank you all, Dan, Nick, Brian, and Calvin.
Love these guys 😍 and I do remember the very beginning 😁 so amazing to watch the transformation 😊
Excellent 👍 congrats 🎉 you sure don't know what quit is !!! You're not my Son but I'm proud of your strength 💪🏾😊
At last safety glasses and cap!!Well done Thu!
This is some sort of build battalion there.

Love the shot of the tattooed, pierced, bearded fella planting flowers in the garden, fantastic.

It’s amazing seeing how you started putting the 1st floor in to now where they are just flying up. It blows my mind where you are now after starting with a wheelbarrow and a spade. Brilliant job
I stand in awe at all you have accomplished. Each episode you and all wh😊 have helped get better and better. Your positivity is what makes watching the progress so fun! Yay!!
Amazing what a few extra hands can do in such a short time! Construtction is hard work and it's nice when you have a small team assembled all working together.
I've been watching from early on, and it was great to see the method evolution. Always the way, work out the method, buy the right tools, it's easier and it 'looks' simple. Even easier, it's still time consuming, however, it's getting faster now. Great work Dan, and the rest of the team. I'll still be watching.
"Gaggle of noggins for the winch!" 😂 Love your sense of humour and positivity for the whole build, hands down best thing I've watched on UA-cam 👍 great to see gentleman working together beautifully with no drama .
Checking in from New Zealand, keep up the great work guys 👍
Hi Dan
Proud of you and your friends
You are all amazing
Lots of hugs to all

So amazing, Dan. To think back to that first video when you showed us (your subscribers) the chateau you'd purchased -- a ruin that was full of trees inside and surrounded by encroaching forest. Prior to that I loved watching you work on the house, and the work you did in the kitchen. When we saw the chateau, I thought, "Wow -- that's a huge plateful to try and chew!" But it's happened, one bite at a time. I think back to the "bee" challenge you had, with the nest that had to be taken out. You've done a tremendous job in getting all the floors back into this building.
This is a monumental day ❤🎉
My goodness Dan you and
Your lovely Crue are amazing 😍
You guys are like a well oiled machine! So happy for your team! Soon to the next step.
Efficient system has been developed over time! Excellent work!!

You were determined from the start the cut the beams and noggins to the best of you ability and resources, thanks to Axminster Tools for seeing this and sponsoring you with amazing equipment and you choosing a great team ❤
I watch both your channel and “The Petherics” channel, where you are both doing absolutely monumental restorations!
It would be so cool, if everyone on your channel and everyone on their channel got together for an hour long meetup to chat about your experiences with your restorations.
I could see your groups forming an amazing restoration business.
Once this floor is in, many challenges await you. Bricks, arches, roof. Glad you have a new winch as will be much needed to get all the bricks up there. Thanks for the smile Calvin while mixing the adhesive mortar 🧡
It's amazing how fast things are progressing, and I love to see the new floors going in. But I am most excited about when the brick work starts. The arch is going to be fantastic to see go back in and then rebuilding the other walls and areas are going to just transform everything and make it feel whole again. Keep up the amazing work and I will be here excited for every video and step of the way

You have changed the way people look at rebuilding! I belong to so many homesteading families, groups, builders, and even metal detectorist and lawncare, do you know what term they are using the most from what I have seen and heard? Noggins! Yep it makes me laugh every time! lol I know who they been watching! Good show, your making awesome progress! Bless you in all you do, I hope the puppies are ok?
Yes, Dan, we do like a stable floor! YES, Dan, so glad you are taking your time and doing a proper job! Your group works well together….👍

One more floor? OMG going so fast. What a difference from the beginning. Awesome work team.
I love. Seeing thee rooms take shape! Amazing that this beautiful chateau will be livable again.. .
'Gagle of noggins on a winch' ... I laughed entirely too hard hearing that. I remember when the first beam went in thinking it would take 5 years to do them all with a handsaw and chisel, here you are a year later flying through them and almost done.
Love the progress being made by you 4 fellas and what you're accomplishing in the Chateau!
OMG Dan, first time I've seen you hand cutting those first beams to fit between the I-beams. To think how efficient you've become harkens back to the same folks that built it in the first place. You've become a serious craftsman!!! All the best going forward, you've earned every bit.
Appreciate the retrospective. You've definitely come a long way, Dan (and Crew) in a relatively short period of time! Keep up the Great Work! 💪😊👍
