Andy’s playing on The Eye album is truly iconic and my absolute favorite guitar tracks ever !! Period ! Anybody who says they don’t like that album is not paying close attention!!
The production quality on that album goes criminally unnoticed. His playing paints such a powerful and unique sound. That’s the album that really got me Interested in Andy’s work.
Great to hear Andy give Michael Denner credit for his guitar playing.Denner is a superb melodic guitarist-Great phrasing in the style of Michael Schenker.
@@hypnagogicjerk Absolutely.Denner is one of my favorite guitar players-He plays 100% for the song, without any unnecessary wanking. All of my favorite MF/KD solos are Denner’s.
King Diamond is my absolute, #1, favorite band and I have seen every show since 1986. Mercyful Fate is my 2nd favorite and have seen every tour since around 1984.
Simply a complete guitarist. So humble. He doesn't show off or anything like that, just talking about the guitars, quite unusual. His sense of focus on melodies in his solos is absolutely astonishing, really. He knows what, when. One of my favourites, without a doubt. A shame you can't use the official music to show off some of what he can do. It takes away a lot, sorry to say.
I had the honor and privilege of hanging out with Andy for 10 minutes or so outside of the Bluebird Theater in Denver, CO back in 2000. He was very laid back and polite. I was able to get his autograph along with the drummer when they were playing the House of God tour. 🤘🤘
for me la rocque is the best guitarrist ever, see him out of stage now i know that guy is so simpathic and friendly , la rocque is the 'real face' of the king's band 🤩🤘🤘
Dear Andy! We miss seeing you more active on the internet, particularly on UA-cam. It would be absolutely amazing to watch videos of you playing Abigail classics. Your guitars are true masterpieces. Wishing you all the best, Renan Zacch (Brazil)
I got to meet Andy and the rest of the band, except Kim, while doing the warehouse prep for one of the tours. Super nice dude. All of them and the crew were some of the nicest guys I've ever worked with. You've got several shots of my work in this video as I hung and wired all the lighting for their set pieces. When the gear came back to the shop at the end of the tour Slayer had stuck googly eyes on the Baphomet.
Andy La Rocque for me is the best of the best. Really a talented musician. Flawless performance. The number one in my list of Guitar Masters since 1989
There's David Gilmour, the master of sensitive guitar playing. And then we have Adrian Smith and Andy La Roque. Two guys who have complete control on their left hand. I met Andy once when he played in my area as I worked as a stage hand for KD. I drove the King from- and back to the hotel that night. The King was such a lovely and nice down to earth man. Haven't talked to Andy though, but I was blown away from their soundcheck. They played "The Eye" inclusive his marvellous solo, while all amps where set on 10. Brutally clear and loud sound. Out of his many solos that he did in my opinion the best one was for "Trapped In A Corner" by Death. Holy S...those haunting ghost guitars, always doulbed ones like on all the KD albums, but embedded inside a different rythm pattern. Andy for sure is an underrrated guitar player. Thank you for this amazing interview video!
Very cool. King Diamond/Mercyful Fate fan for years. Two V's here, IBZ RR Sr and Cort Arrow. Michael Denner did ads for these back in the '80s. Loved Andy giving the history of the white '78, complete with mentioning a headstock repair. Some folks may recall the That Metal Show installment with Michael Schenker and Kirk Hammett. Krk had the PG/GM LP and said it had a head stock repair. Michael said his main V with UFO and beyond had like 3 repairs and each time he got it back, it sounded better! Crazy. It's great Andy is sponsered by Dean. I thought they were on the ropes after Gibson stepping in. Rock ON!!
Know him because of Death's Individual Thought Patterns album. He has such a unique, instantly recognizable style. I'll start listening to King Diamond thanks to him
What a gentleman ! By the way mentioning the at the gates guest solo in the track cold and the connection with the bc rich guitar was amazing ! i wish he said something similar about individual thought patterns ! Thank you for the upload : )

One of my top five guitarist of the world. The second solo in "Spirits" (Abigail 2) and " The Trial " (The Eye) are amazing... Few people know the band Illwill from the album "Evilution" and Andy did great guitar parts there. Listen to the solo on "Cult" I hope that someday I will be able to talk to the master and shaking his hand.
Such an amazing guitarist that deserve more attention. Sure, it’s not like he’s unknown or anything.. but the melodic perfect balance that keep you on edge shredding to add energy and ability to add creepy and beautiful textures is unmatched.
Great interview thanks. Andy was a huge influence on metal guitarists professional and amateur both in the 80's and still today. A guitarist that deserves more recognition for his contribution to Heavy Metal. When I was young and first heard Mercyful Fate from a friend I thought, no way this is too heavy for me. And today I love their shit and KD! (what a polite and well mannered guy!)
Andy La Roque fan here, thanks for this wonderful interview. But with all the respect, the video title is misleading. It's not his "story" (except the small part where he tells about how he joined the band). Why not naming this video an "interview", which it actually is.
