  • Brown Sugar Baked Beans Recipe
Here’s what you’ll need to make a fairly large mess of Baked Beans (feeds a family of 12 easily).
4 15oz cans of pork and beans or 2 28 oz cans - - or I actually found a large ( I think it was 3.5 lbs) can of baked beans. I don’t get anything fancy - just the good ole regular can of baked beans. I use Campbells or VanCamps.
I drain most of the juice. I find if you don’t overcook these you’ll usually be ok and your beans won’t turn out dry. Nothing worse in the world than mushy dried out baked beans. Keep a little of the juice in reserve is the wise thing to do.
    1 1/2 cup of ketchup
1 cup of brown sugar (i prefer the dark more molasses one, but either works))
1/4 cup of real maple syrup
    2 Tbs. Worcestershire sauce
    1 Tbs. Yellow mustard
dash of Tabasco sauce ( to taste, but I usually like a lot more than I did for Sarah and Solo’s tribe)
1/2 cup of sweet onion - I love Vadalia here but use what you can find
    4-6 slices of bacon, uncooked
Spray a 2 1/2 quart casserole with non-stick spray. Mix the ketchup, brown sugar, maple syrup, Worcestershire sauce, yellow mustard and Tabasco sauce. If you don’t have real maple syrup, use what you have, but the real syrup is best for the flavoring. I have tried it with the same amount of molasses syrup - but still prefer the maple.
Mix all that with the beans (mostly drained) and then stir in the diced onion. I do not remove any of the “pork’ or whatever that is in the can of beans. There is usually one piece or so of fatty looking meat in each can.
Place all that in the casserole dish and lay the uncooked bacon over the top.
Place in a 350 degree over for 55 minutes to an hour. Remove from oven when done. If you want to keep all that warm, cover tightly with foil or the glass casserole lid. Remember, baked beans dry out fast if left uncovered, especially in the oven, even if the oven is off. I am convinced this is where a lot of good baked bean are ruined. So - if you don’t plan on eating them right away - allow a bit more juice from the can to be used when mixing.
Of course - if your family or your picnic isn’t going to have that many people (this particular night we had 21 people, and It all got gobbled up) you can cut the recipe in half. Most everyone has a baked bean recipe and i’ve tried a lot - but I find I like the flavors here, and the kids certainly do!
    Enjoy! - Jerry

Here's a little Mushroom tip for you-

Vickie, of the five of you, what is your birth order? It's grossly unfair to burden the girls with the DAILY task of cooking, cleaning and child care while the boys do the MONTHLY task of mowing the lawn. That's why I hated the sexist Duggars. Sarah pays her kids to baby sit and does not force her girls to be extra mommy like the Duggars do. Although, to be fair, Sarah seems to do 90% of the work.

But my ex husband didn't grow up doing to many household chores at all.

When you par-boil the bagels in starchy water, you get that glossy, chewy, thin texture that we associate with a bagel. I highly recommend the par-boil before the baking. It also jumpstarts the rise.

Watching your daughter look at what was on the stove reminded me of when I was little and asked my Mom what was for dinner. She told me to look and see. Apparently I looked at it and said “Oh Ish” and we have called it that name ever since. It was ground beef and cream of mushroom soup and rice. We have adapted it and made it for years. My son only knew it by that name and when he ate over at a girlfriends house and they served it he apparently said “Oh good you are having Oh Ish and I love it. You should try adding avocados to your BLTs. Yummy! Sometimes I will smash one up and add just a shake or two of everything but the bagel seasonings to it and then spread it in the bread like you would for Mayo!!
I meal prep and that keeps us out from eating out a lot, (I hate paying $100 at a restaurant when that’s what I spend a week for groceries). I have been ordering Dinnerly & EveryPlate boxes. When they come I go ahead and make all the meals and put in gallon sized bags and lay flat in freezer. I then just set it out on my thawing plate and within an hour it’s thawed enough to reheat it (I will under cook the meat/veggies/potatoes, so when reheating it doesn’t it doesn’t get tough). I have a condition that causes me to pass out if on my feet to long which made cooking a nightmare (I have ruined many a dinners when I pass out and it ends up on the floor). I love cooking and if I do it all in one day I don’t have to do it for another week. I sit at the table and chop everything up which helps keep me off my feet for too long. Each bag is labeled before hand with instructions on heating and what I have to add to it. I use to do grocery shopping once a month and when it gets picked up I load everything in table and sort by recipes. I chop everything on day of grocery haul and leave the chopped veggies on table in covered bowls for the next day. Then I cook and assemble the bags( I usually can put together 32-36 bagged dinners)on day 2.
I have tried a few of your recipes and they were a complete success so thanks for posting them! ❤️❤️🥰🥰

Mock chow mein was a staple in my house growing up. Similar to egg roll in a bowl but you add beef mince, curry powder, packet chicken noodle soup, onion, uncooked rice, top up with water or chicken stock to just cover simmer til rice cooked before serving add cabbage, grated carrot and fresh bean. I like my veg still a bit crunchy and serve with lemon juice or like me tomato sauce(ketchup) the next day.
    Lots of recipes online.
    Cheers from AUSTRALIA 🇦🇺

Growing up my mom used to make macaroni and cheese that way (minus the eggs and seasoning). It's going on the third generation as a favorite - but we call it glue, lol!

Interpolate is often used with math and science.
Also, I tend to leave my cheese and meats in a completely different container of my veggies. Consider a bowl of precut cheese placed next to the salads.

Okay here's a few salad ideas that I used to make at a local variety store. One you can mix ranch and mayo and if you want it to be buffalo hot add red's hot sauce. So what you do is you take chicken breasts that are boiled or grilled whichever way you want it. Chop them up use the type of pasta that you would like usually it's elbow or the tubes you can use bow ties whatever and you chop up different colored peppers red onion pepperoni salami you can put chopped up tomatoes if you want. The next one usually is rigatoni that you use but you can use whatever. I like Ken's Italian parmesan dressing. And you can chop up grilled chicken or boiled chicken whatever you want. And you chop up peppers red onions you put black olives you can put pickles if you want pepperoni and you can add tomatoes if you want. Here's another one of my favorites is you can use any kind of small pasta. I forgot the name right now it's slipping my mind but the small round balls of pasta couscous that's what it is. And you do the Italian dressing now you can do chopped up peppers with feta or mozzarella and you can have red onion and tomatoes if you want. And the other version is if you have Frozen mixed vegetables like corn and peas or whatever and you put it in the strainer so when you pour your pasta water unplug it. Then you mix the pasta with the unthawed vegetables mix it with the Italian dressing and add in either feta or mozzarella chunks fresh preferably LOL now all these other versions that I've just told you about soy sauce and sesame seed oil you could do. I don't know about it and pickles and tomatoes with that but hey to each his own. I'm talking so I'm not putting on my punctuation LOL but I hope you enjoy

The macaroni and cheese recipe is very similar to how I've been making it for about 10 years. It was a long time of trial and error then I finally got something that everyone loves.
I need to be better at prepping salads. There are many days where I want a salad but I don't want to go through the effort of washing and chopping everything. I'm suffering with depression and anxiety so some days are better than others.

I'm vegetarian so an edamame & vegetable stir-fry with a home-made tahini soy stir-fry sauce - takes about 15 mins start to finish including prep as there's only myself to cook for and I like my veggies crunchy. Sometimes I eat it on it's own or with a small portion of brown, red and wild rice (which I batch cook and freeze in 4 oz portions) or mama wholegrain rice vermicelli noodles. ❤

I meal prep but differently from you. I buy bulk ground meat and cook it all up, some just meat, some with peppers and onions. Then I freeze it in one pound packets. I buy rotisserie chickens and package the meat in one meal portions. I make broth from the bones and package that. When the meat part is already cooked it is so easy to whip up dinner, especially soups or stews in winter. Maybe 15 minutes to cook the veggie part and season everything. Done!

I think our issue is that it’s just me and the hubby. It’s actually cheaper to eat out something if we are busy than cooking at home. We can go to the hibachi place and share a plate for 10 bucks.
