Saing it is amazing is an absolute understatement. It is something that his peers could only dream of doing. And by peers I mean Bonham, Baker, Moon, Ward, Palmer, etc… you name them…
Heard deep purple in fiji islands in 1964. Of a radio signal from New Zealand. Song was hush. Later on heard the remake of Beatles help. Now I’m 70 . Love this band.
Deep purple's Machine Head album is the best HardRock/Heavy Metal(What ever you want to call it)...this Album (The Follow up is also amazing...Love It!!!!...I saw them the year this came out...1973...Thanks Chod
I can't remember what it was that he used to use with his Organ to get that distorted crazy sound that he could use so flawlessly in a solo like he did here, but he used to rock his organ back and let it rock back forward, slamming the ground to get that wild sound out of it. Everytime I saw him do it, I always thought his B3 was going to flip over. For a classical pianist he sure did imbrace the rock sound and made it his own. He never wanted to sound like any of the rock organist of that time like Rick Wakeman of Yes or Keith Emerson of ELP. He wanted to create a sound of his own and I think he did. Just a foot not to anyone that doesn't know it, Deep Purple is still around. With different Keyboardist Don Airey who has played with tons of bands and Guitarist Steve Morse who is fantastic. If you have a chance, check them out.
That keyboard solo by Jon Lord... astonishing...other great ones on Lalena, Flight of the Rat, High ball shooter and Malice in Wonderland from Paice Ashton Lord...and obviously don't forget Fireball and the classy April, a stunning Jon Lord composition... Before I forget and Bach onto this are two other wonderful songs by Jon. Don't miss one of them, they are all essentials...believe me.
The whole band was bringing it, but Ritchie gave this song to Jon Lord because Jon had a couple of leads going on here and Ritchie just kept those driving riffs going through the whole song.....sweet
Relations in the band particularly between Gillan and Blackmore had deteriorated. This album breaks away from the format of the previous three in that, there is only one song, Our Lady where both Blackmore and Lord both have solos. They didn't even record this as a band, recording parts individually.
Glad you reacted to this Jon Lord is insane in this song. This whole album is excellent. Do a reaction to Ian Paice He has some excellent solos. The Mule live in Copenhagen 1972 is one of his best. Jon Lord really rips in Flight of The Rat off of the Deep Purple in Rock album.
In my opinion, probably the best DP album by this lineup. Remember, this came out in '73 when Gillan had already told the rest of the band he was leaving. Tensions between Blackmore and Gillan had reached breaking point by this stage and they, in their words, rushed through this album, just to get it finished. Gillan and Glover were gone by the next album, Burn.
Chod, that was my first time hearing this song too !!! If I could have a talent other than drums it'd be the keys, I agree, he tore that keyboard up !!!
This song was very underrated but it was still popular among the real rockers. I use to jam this song all the time back in B'ham Al. We were some young rocking teenage brothers still in high school. They had many other good hits though. A great time to be alive. Yes, Jon Lord was a monster on those keyboards. One of the best!💯🔥🔥. Jon Lord R.I.P.
Chod, please get to Space Truckin if you can. Straight banger that highlights Ian Paice’s drumming and Ian Gillan’s vocal talent. Favorite DP track. Cheers!
Jon Lord is always going to bring it! The other guys are also equally talented musicians. That's what makes Deep Purple great. If you replaced any member it wouldn't be the same.. Love these guys
Thanks for this, Chod. :-) Glad you enjoyed and got to hear that solo by Jon. Really is pretty astonishing. I like how the organ changed tone in the middle of the solo. Funky, nasty main riff too, as you noticed. I agree, retire that organ! Hahaha!
What a great song choice! Great riff, killer drums, strong vocals and awesome keyboard /organ solo.I always loved this song and the album is so underrated. You nailed it talking about the level of musicianship displayed here.
Thanks for doing this song I always enjoyed Rat Bat Blue so much and this album is their most under rated one. From "Who do we think we are" the best songs are "Woman from Tokyo", and "Super Trouper" but always more Deep Purple.
I got to see them one time at a summer jam at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, along with several other awesome bands including Uriah Heep and Ted Nugent! Blasted eardrums for miles around 😎☮️👵🏼
and u have to acknowledge that in those days of the recordings these 5 guys couldn't stand each other and Ian Gillan was about to quit the job. they recorded this very album so fast cause they were touring like maniacs and.....the result is in front of your very eyes: immense
What a great overall track by one oif the great bands of all time but another Jon Lord high point, so advanced. Jon is so missed today, I wish he could have been on the more recent Purple album releases.
Loved your reaction! This may very well be my favorite Purple jam...and it's a deep track buried in the middle of this album! Consider checking out Deep Purple songs WRING THAT NECK and LAZY for more Jon Lord brilliance. 🤘😉
hey Chod, Great reaction to a great song by a great band.....While you're on the topic of organ music, it's been a while since you've done any Steppenwolf. I would highly suggest "Renegade" studio version. Lyrics tell the true story of John Kay (singer/song writer) who escaped under the iron curtain at the age of 5yrs old with his mother after WWII.
Did you ever react to Jon Lord's band before Deep Purple, The Artwoods? British R&B from the 60ies, try songs like Big City or the intro to Keep lookin'. They never made it, but they are addictive ;-) The singer Art Wood is the brother of Ron Wood from the Rolling Stones, the drummer was Keef Hartley...
Chod, I know you like hearing different sides of bands. For deep purple try the following studio versions for that: “You Keep on Moving”; “This Time Around/Owed to G” - both of those are on the “come taste the band“ album. Another would be, “Holy Man”. Lastly, here is a very good live performance from around 2000 that shows another side of them, performing with an orchestra, “Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming” m.ua-cam.com/video/49XBmLTwWsQ/v-deo.html just keep them in your arsenal and pull them out when you feel like hearing some Purple. I do think also you would like the studio version of “perfect strangers“. To see their drummer do a great solo check out “the mule“ 1972, Copenhagen
Love that you dive into every type of classic music, thank you! I rely enjoy your channel. Check out some old Fleetwood Mac...before the girls and Linsey Buckingham. With Peter Green and co. they are as bluesy as it gets, you'll be impressed!
The guitar riff was clearly taken form an old rhythm & blues song, "Watch Your Step" by Bobby Parker. The funny thing is that Led Zeppelin also stole it! You can hear it on "Moby Dick", almost note by note.
I don't think you've reacted to anything from mk.4 yet, I would recommend This Time Around/Owed to G. Then some other great ones from Come Taste The Band album are Getting Tighter, You Keep On Moving, Coming Home, Love Child.
These guys were at the top of thier game here and were right up there with Zeppelin far as i'm concerned just too bad Ian Gillan and Roger Glover left the band shortly after this album was recorded so there was no tour to promote it,David Coverdale and Glen Hughes joined Purple and they recorded Burn and toured to promote it instead
You might like to try deep purple's 1984 album: perfect strangers That hit is amazing, Bro You might like it Deep Purple Perfect Strangers 1984 Check it out 🤘 Keep on Rockin Rockstar Bro 🤘
Самая классная, самая профессиональная рок-группа! Слушаю Deep Purple, с 1970- г. и буду слушать, пока живу.... Всем любителям DP- удачи.....
Best hard rock band of all time
There isn´t enough praise in the world for Jon Lord. The angels are sure rockin´out now!
That’s when Jon Lord goes into what I call “machine gun mode”
This was such an underrated album
The drummer kills it here.
The best drummer to ever touch the sticks
@@zdenkonouzovsky6947Indeed!!🎉
One of Deep Purple's hidden Gems. I loved it from the first time I heard it. Jon Lord on the organ is simply AMAZING!!!!!!!
FINALLY !!! Someone reacting to something other than the typical radio cuts. Thanks so much !
Ian Paice drumming on this song is amazing.
Saing it is amazing is an absolute understatement. It is something that his peers could only dream of doing. And by peers I mean Bonham, Baker, Moon, Ward, Palmer, etc… you name them…

Very good reaction , Great, Great son bye The best rock band 🎸 of all times .
Heard deep purple in fiji islands in 1964. Of a radio signal from New Zealand. Song was hush. Later on heard the remake of Beatles help. Now I’m 70 . Love this band.
What a riff and plenty more to come after aahhh haaaaa
For a really good time rock n roll purple song, don't sleep on "What's Goin On Here". Other classics are Stormbringer, Gypsy and Super Trouper.
deep purple stormbringer
deep purple you keep on moving
deep purple soldier of fortune
deep purple when a blind man cries
Haven’t heard this for a while. Great LP. Love this song.
One of my all time favorite songs not only by Deep Purple but by most bands from the era (I'm 61). The beat of this song is relentless.
Deep purple's Machine Head album is the best HardRock/Heavy Metal(What ever you want to call it)...this Album (The Follow up is also amazing...Love It!!!!...I saw them the year this came out...1973...Thanks Chod
I hate the fact that Gillan left in 73. I wished they finished the 70's wit this line up
I can't remember what it was that he used to use with his Organ to get that distorted crazy sound that he could use so flawlessly in a solo like he did here, but he used to rock his organ back and let it rock back forward, slamming the ground to get that wild sound out of it. Keith Emerson used to attack his organ with a dagger.
He has it specially modified that's why no one knows what he was using....
Jon Lord on this song shows why he was one of the greatest of all time.
Rest in Peace Jon. Your legacy lives on
That keyboard solo by Jon Lord... astonishing...other great ones on Lalena, Flight of the Rat, High ball shooter and Malice in Wonderland from Paice Ashton Lord...and obviously don't forget Fireball and the classy April, a stunning Jon Lord composition... Check out "NO ONE CAME". A killer jam, and one of the last songs from Mark II Deep Purple. The lyrics are Ian's best.
Absolutely love that tune!! FIREBALL is a killer album!
Ian's million lyrics to this Driving Funk jam.
"No One Came" is one of their under-recognized gems. Should be in a compilation of songs about what it's like to be a rock musician.
3:47 to 4:57. Another planet, thank you God for Jon Lord
The whole band was bringing it, but Ritchie gave this song to Jon Lord because Jon had a couple of leads going on here and Ritchie just kept those driving riffs going through the whole song.....sweet

When a blind man cries off smoke on the water alternate straight up rock Heavy
Their best, In Rock. Hard Lovin' Man.☺
That about the 4-minute mark Jon Lord is turning his Hammond on and off a couple times.
dude, you are straight up! they were my first concert in '72 when I was 13! They were great live!
Chod, you really should check out Deep Purple's song No No No from the Fireball cd. You won't be disappointed.
Love it when this track gets attention!
Me also lol. Good album
Ironically, that organ is now retired as far as I know.
Everytime I hear fireball its like I’m flying to space

Tensions between Blackmore and Gillan had reached breaking point by this stage and they, in their words, rushed through this album, just to get it finished. Gillan and Glover were gone by the next album, Burn.
They are all bringing the heat!
One of my first cover band back in the 70s played this song. I have a recording of it on cassette.
Put it on here
Chod, that was my first time hearing this song too !!! If I could have a talent other than drums it'd be
the keys, I agree, he tore that keyboard up !!!

Space Truckin , from Made in Japan , will totally blow your mind if you want to hear more John Lord !
Chod, please get to Space Truckin if you can. Straight banger that highlights Ian Paice’s drumming and Ian Gillan’s vocal talent. Favorite DP track. Cheers!
Gotta throw THE MULE in there as well.
Thats the Hammond C-3 organ that jon bought from Cristine McViegh of Fleetwood Mac....great vid dude
One of the most perfect bands ever!
Hahaha!
Great song. Nice reaction. Great album. Have you heard Space Truckin from Made in Japan yet? Great solos by Jon and Ritchie.
Thank you for choosing not only standard DP songs! Try Fireball, another great Lord’s solo
Yes that's probably my favorite Lord solo even though it's so short
What a great song choice! Great riff, killer drums, strong vocals and awesome keyboard /organ solo.I always loved this song and the album is so underrated. You nailed it talking about the level of musicianship displayed here.
Great song with Jon Lord delivering the mother of all organ solos.
Listen to fools live at Monterey jazz festival brilliant.
Thanks for doing this song I always enjoyed Rat Bat Blue so much and this album is their most under rated one. From "Who do we think we are" the best songs are "Woman from Tokyo", and "Super Trouper" but always more Deep Purple.
Our favorite from this album is: place in line!!! Check that one out!!
I got to see them one time at a summer jam at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, along with several other awesome bands including Uriah Heep and Ted Nugent! Blasted eardrums for miles around 😎☮️👵🏼

It is a serious groove with a wicked solo.

Sabbath did an album with Ian Gillian from deep Purple
Ian Paice is a bad man.
What a great overall track by one oif the great bands of all time but another Jon Lord high point, so advanced. Jon is so missed today, I wish he could have been on the more recent Purple album releases.
Retire that damn organ. Haha. They did, it's in a museum now. (not really, for younger folks that might believe that.)
Loved your reaction! This may very well be my favorite Purple jam...and it's a deep track buried in the middle of this album! Consider checking out Deep Purple songs WRING THAT NECK and LAZY for more Jon Lord brilliance. 🤘😉
One of my favorite, DP songs.............you’ve been reacting to some of my favorites lately.. Easy Livin,...Give it to Me, Savoy Brown etc
hey Chod, Great reaction to a great song by a great band.....While you're on the topic of organ music, it's been a while since you've done any Steppenwolf. I would highly suggest "Renegade" studio version. Lyrics tell the true story of John Kay (singer/song writer) who escaped under the iron curtain at the age of 5yrs old with his mother after WWII.
Perfect Strangers, next please.
Place in Line from the same album is a tune with every member firing on all cylinders ..... you will not be disappointed

Great song from this album with incredible vocal range by Ian Gillan is "Place In Line"
Yes!!!
OMG!
Allow me to age myself
My garage band did a cover of this at a Battle of the Bands back in the day
Nice groove in dis one!
Ian said, Hard Lovin Man, from IN ROCK..
"...about to be a crime scene..."LOL, I do appreciate this assessment.
Who Do We Think We Are is a really great album....
Damn, how did I miss this!
Lord the great one.

Bands of this time no push buttons Deep purple with the British orchestra. They were all classical trained
The guitar riff was clearly taken form an old rhythm & blues song, "Watch Your Step" by Bobby Parker. The funny thing is that Led Zeppelin also stole it! You can hear it on "Moby Dick", almost note by note.
👍👍👍
NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICE choice
MORE Cowbell.
I don't think you've reacted to anything from mk.4 yet, I would recommend This Time Around/Owed to G.
Then some other great ones from Come Taste The Band album are Getting Tighter, You Keep On Moving, Coming Home, Love Child.
Also, I think you'd like "April" from the first lineup of the band, Jon Lord kills on that track
