Can't stress enough on how well this video is made, to the point and answering all the possible questions one can think of during the video. Trully hats off in taking the time and sharing the experience.. cheers!
Great video! I have been having a hard time figuring out how these things fold and unfold. Its an interesting concept, but I think I will stick with an airbed in the back of the vehicle. Quicker, simpler, and more stable in weather.
thats an awesome piece of kit , i went up scotland for a fortnight and came back 9 months later in something smaller than that , happy days , being off the ground is totally cleaner than my ultra lightweight backpacking tent on the ground
Nice to see this cool rig up. I goo off-road most of my camping, dirtbike riding. I designed an aluminum tube rack for the bed of my truck, just a little higher than the cab. Always great to collect more information. Safe travels, have fun
It's pricey ,but I can really see the great benefits of that tent. When you pack up-everything goes with you. When your sleeping at least you can know that no snakes will get you up there on the roof, and the bears, and other wildlife will not have such an easy access. and you get into places that a trailer will not go.
That’s an awesome tent, my hunting buddies and I have been looking to hunt out west and that would be a great solution for being mobile and camping! Thank you Allie! Keep the great vids coming!
I work for a company that installs RTTs and rack systems. If this is the Ruggedized Series Autana 3 you are over your weight capacity on the Thule rack system by about 30lbs. Rack is only rated for 165lbs. Tent is rated as 195lbs. I don't recommend using these 2 together, it's an accident waiting to happen.
It seems to me another con would be if you want to go somewhere town to get groceries or whatever you would have to take down tent just to use vehicle every time u wanna go somewhere! And at 4000 dollars I will stick to a nice used trailer that I can disconnect and go somewhere! Just my opinion
Look up the iKamper tent....opens completely and closes completely within about a minute. No guidelines to deal with, just flip it open, pull out the ladder, and done!
Great set up and review. I really enjoy your videos and I am glad there are more girls out there that are into hunting and fishing like I am. I never knew that until I signed up on Instagram and saw all these huntresses and fishing women. Which makes me have hope. You have a loyal sub.
Omg I just passed y’all on the freeway outside of Forsyth Mt.!. I seen the bow target in the back of your truck and the worn and weathered stick so I pulled along side you and honked and waved.!. P.s. how pretty was the sun through the smoky sky beautiful right.!. Look forward to meeting y’all in person someday.!.
So odd you feature the truck top tent this week Allie! I spent maybe an aggravated hour looking through past trips in your vids not 10 days ago trying to find this tent!! lol Keep em' Coming!
I've been wanting to get one of these lately, BUT I don't want it on the roof of my truck, I want it on the bed of my truck, BUT I need to install a strong enough retractable "tonneau" bed cover that can hold it and wont sag. I've got some research to do 🤔 Nice truck BTW, I have an extended cab Ford F150 FX4 Thanks for the Birthday wishes!! I saw your comment from the other video.
Easy E it isn't letting me copy and past for some reason but search for Pace Edwards Jack Rabbit Tonneau Cover and it may be what you're looking for. It comes with built in cross bars that would mount a cargo basket or rooftop tent.
The tent frame seems rugged enough, but I'm not sure it's a very good idea for that much weight to be on the top of the vehicle and the door frames. The price alone puts it out of my range. Interesting idea though.
Dont sweat the haters and negative comments in regards to the tent. I have the same exact tent and use it extensively while hunting. I just came back from a 2 week elk hunting trip in unit 77/81 here in Nevada right where Nevada, Utah, and Idaho all intersect. While there is some validity to the level of ease that comes with a semi-permanent hunt camp and atvs there are some hunters like myself who dont want the creature comforts of home while on a hunt. I enjoy getting on foot and away from the lazy road hunters. To be honest between me and a friend we can set up camp in 5 minutes flat and take it down in about 10. Most traditional hunters arrive in their respective units with pickups loaded 6 feet high off the bed with everything you can imagine. Camps get setup and then you are locked into that respective area or as far as the gas in your quad will take you. Set aside the con of closing up the tent in typically cold weather you have the luxury of setting up wherever the hell you want or even relocating to the other side of the respective unit if the hunting pressure is too much. I was hunting unit 77 and the road hunters were spooking the herd so I just folded up the tent and moved 40 miles to the other side of it. I ended up camping on this gnarly plateau on a trail that was very promising. The trail itself was only accessible by ATV or a capable 4x4 like my jeep. That night we heard elk bugling in the near distance right on the trail we were camped. The very next morning we located the elk 10 minutes up the trail. Moral of the story is the benefits of the tent far outweigh the cons. If you are motivated and are willing to immerse yourself in the hunt then this is the way to go but to each their own. Another positive is that if you do find the animals and they are far away from your hunt camp you can just go far enough away, setup and be on them first light. Plus being off the ground gives you a little more peace of mind with the things that go bump in the night. Now while the price of a ruggedized Tepui is up there as so is the quality..point blank you pay for what you get. You also forgot to mention the zip on bottom room that comes standard with the Autana version that is big enough for a queen sized air matt, cot, or for the dogs to sleep.
I keep my dog in his crate under my tent in my bed of my truck while sleeping. Truck bed offers more warning time and concealment for any unwanted animal intruders...just a thought. My tent is mounted on a rack, on my truck bed, that’s even with the truck roof line when traveling.
Did you do theater? You have all of the facial and hand gestures down perfect. Adorable review, the first one I actually made it through on these tents. It is 20 months after your review do you still like it? I am new to seeing your channel so if you have done another video sorry. Liked, subscribed and will go through more of your videos. I hope you 2 are having fun someplace and be safe.
looks amazing ., probably won't go with orange one even though it looks nice when you inside.,the orange one would do my head in great video thumbs up from the uk
Jake the blaze orange is used for safety in hunting. Most know enough not to ever shoot if they see anything orange. Since a turkey can have blue and red look to it like a Pepsi can those colors are not safe in hunting areas. If you are camping during a hunting season even if you do not hunt having the orange is a good safety item. You could be in the tent just to grab something or nap in the middle of the day.
G Lewis They aren't cheap, but I lived out of mine for almost a month when I was making the move/drive from AK back down to the 48. Loved every minute of it.
Do they make one of these to fit a larger person? I'm 6'4 and have a CA King bed at home because my feet hang off the end of a regular King bed. So, I need something where the bed is going to be maybe 80" long.
What kind of dog are you guys gonna get!? Have you guys ever used the tent in a good storm? I always like these tents but have wondered how they would handle a heavy snow fall? or a good thunder shower with some strong winds?
It probably WOULD last -- people use these in all kinds of weather and all seasons/all year long -- wind, rain, snow. Tepui is a top-quality brand, and secondly this is their "ruggedized" model, not the typical/average rooftop tent. BIG difference. -- BR
These make no sense at all to overweight, lazy road hunters. Make sure you guys try and make it to Tepuifest in Hollister 2019. We definitely need more hunter presence there to represent
Awesome information. I was wondering if there was any room inside when folded up for let's say a couple of pillows blankets or sleeping bags? Sometimes I think having that stuff in there can save on space elsewhere. Also I was wondering would it make any difference if the tent was left attached to the truck for a season or would that degrade anything?
Not sure if you’ll even see this, but I also have an F150 and everyone was suggesting against the Thule rack style that clips on the doors like yours. Since you’ve likely had this a while, has the roof rack ever given you any problems or caused any damage to the truck? I’d like to still run this style with a tent too
I just purchased one, and note, your clamp-on crossbar mounting feet are NOT recommended by Thule (who now own Tepui). I followed THEIR recommendation, and the tent does not clear the rear mounting feet. Still unresolved as of this writing. Nice video.
Am wondering if the platform and tent could be adjusted to the bed of the truck. Add in steps, for this granny's aging out arthritiv body. And to accomodate kitty, have a tent window connect to a sliding glass truck back window. Let her have access in one place at all times to her litterbox, although I do buy designer litter that rarely stinks. Anyways, in my perfect world.
That privacy screen that zips up should be made out of something that's like a one way mirror. So if your inside YOU can see out, but no one can see in. ?!
So per Ford, the rook rack weight limit is about 165 lbs for that truck. Did you reinforce the roof rack area to compensate for the extra weight of the tent, gear and humans? Thank you!
This style of clip base rack is not recommended for rooftop tents. The one shown in the video is the Thule AeroBlade load bars, Thule 480R towers and fit kit. This is also true for the Yakima Q-Towers and BaseLine systems (any brand that uses a clip). The reason it is not recommend is that once someone gets in the tent and moves around, their weight is pushing down on the rack and the clips have the potential to loose their clamping friction and slip out leaving a detached tower. You can find this information by downloading any Yakima SkyRise tent "Installation Manual". You'll find this on page 2 under the title of "Important Fit Information" the 7th bullet point down. This applies to all makes and models of all tents. At our shop this was the first point made by our Yakima Rep and confirmed by the Thule and Rhino Reps. I only mention this to keep you and the people driving behind you safe and no yard sales on the highway. Great presentation and very informative video. Keep up the hard work!
Great video and review. Do you leave the tent on full time or take if off when not in use? I'd think I would want to leave it on full time based on the weight and storage space needed if I took it off. Thx.
Great video! Thank you! One question. Does the ladder provide support for the fold out section? Or is it fully supported by the internal frame. Just wondering what kind of torque is applied to the far side when a 240 lbs person climbs thru the door. Any chance the upward torque on the roof rack would damage the car? I'm looking at a much lighter system on an after market rack on a Ford Fusion.
The ladder does provide support. I don't think the upward torque would mess with the structure of the door frame, but ours did end up leaking a bit in really heavy rain.
Happy lady, eloquent, informative and pleasing personality. She sounds knowledgeable. Thanks for covering all tent angles. Magnifico.

Congrats, by the way those mattress straps are for holding your bedding in place so you can leave your sleeping bag inside when closing.
I believe the biggest advantage Ruggedized series is the thicker canvas and support poles which would stand up to high winds...
Here's my most recent Roof Top Tent video for anyone interested. Thanks for watching!!

Christian Skibinski get a Jumping Jack trailer instead of this thing...or a wall tent.
very helpful because we have not much information of roof top tent in japan

@1.52. the angle of the ladder doesn’t affect whether or not your tent will be level or not.

Ron Weight and your vehicle is rendered unusable once you set up camp. Kinda kewl but not very practical.
Mine is getting delivered tomorrow 😄
You're going to love it!
Love the concept. I enjoy sleeping up high. Biggest no go is no big dog access. Can't imagine making the boys sleep outside in a crate.
Ya, getting a dog up there wouldn't be ideal.
My cute little puppy weighs 183. Leaving him home is not an option. Thanks!
I built a ramp for my dogs. It breaks down for travel, and makes a convenient clutter free layer in the vehicle for the dogs to rest on.
Awesome tent I still prefer my bag and rugged tarp, my daughter loves you so much PHX wants me too buy one, so she can be like you. GOD BLESS
That is a awesome tent. I dont mind the extra time setting it up. Besides I can fit me my wife and two kids in it comfortably. Cool video👍👍👍👍👍

Pretty nice Nick, did I understand there is (some) storage in it when it is collapsed pillows ,bags ,ect . Thanks kids

it's called a grommet. That thingy you were talking about on your canopy.
ahhhh yes, thank you!

What kind of dog are you guys gonna get!? Have you guys ever used the tent in a good storm? I always like these tents but have wondered how they would handle a heavy snow fall? or a good thunder shower with some strong winds?

awesome product. I live in the wind rivers and when we get wind that thing wouldn't last. . or else that would be a strong interest
It probably WOULD last -- people use these in all kinds of weather and all seasons/all year long -- wind, rain, snow.

In your opinion, could 2 medium-sized adults (5'4"/5'9") and a 3 year old sleep comfortably in this tent? Great video by the way!!
Thanks for watching! Yes, you will be just fine. Nick and I sleep in there with quite a bit of room to spare he's 6'1 and im 5'8

I left mine attached for years. No issues! I think you could get away with leaving some sleeping bags in there but that's probably it.
is there enough room to keep a couple of pillows and a blanket in the tent when you put it away for storage between adventure locations?
Not this particular model. Maybe a blanket.
Looks to be a really well made tent. How does it handle high winds, any issue with the overhang area in the wind?
No issue other than a little noisy sometimes, but think that is the roof rack. It seems to start making a whistle noise around 70 mph
I was questioning when it is set up. Does the wind ever get under the overhang and kind of rock the truck?
I was using this last week in 50 mph winds and it held up fine. A little wind flap but nothing crazy.

Very informative, thank you!
That thing is cool!
How does it travel down the road with that style roof rack? Looks like it’s the type that hooks in the door instead of bolted to the top.
No bumping or moving. Does make a little noise though when going over 60mph.
So awesome! I want one.
They are pretty dang cool!

So per Ford, the rook rack weight limit is about 165 lbs for that truck. Did you reinforce the roof rack area to compensate for the extra weight of the tent, gear and humans?
Thank you!
We installed a Thule AeroBlade.
Gary Braden 165 is the dynamic weight rating when the truck is moving, static weight rating is generally much higher.

I have the same aeroblade roof rack, correct me if I'm wrong but I Don't think that rack and footpack is made for that much weight.
This is what I was recommended by the dealer, but i'll do a little more research!
Great video and review. Do you leave the tent on full time or take if off when not in use? I'd think I would want to leave it on full time based on the weight and storage space needed if I took it off. Thx.
Thanks Rick! We leave it on the majority of the time. Only taken it off a couple times.
