Yeah when youre told to pull it hard you fuckin pull it. Bro even other shit like a popped arm socket. A friend was being a bitch about it and kept half ass pushing it
Last weekend my buddy got hooked in his foot while attempting to land a good size pike while in a kayak. He should have had a net, he likely wouldn't have been hooked. But he was hooked, as I attempted too remove the hook just as you did in the video, I noticed some swelling that generally doesn't occur when hooked. Turns out that the hook was in his vein, and if we had pulled it, he would have required surgery. The doctor at the hospital told us that he was glad we didn't pull it out. In saying all that, wait ten minutes or so before pulling any hook, that's approximately how long it took for the swelling to start. The freaky thing about the situation is that the hook didn't look like it was in a vein initially. This does work to remove hooks, but make sure you aren't in a vain before doing it.
Small circular punctures feel similar to a needle, not too painful but very uncomfortable. I stepped on a thumb tack once and it took me a full 5 seconds to realized I was impaled lol. Didn’t hurt a bit
Putting pressure on the shank of the hook pushed the hook against the side opposite from the barb. That is a very important thing to do to minimize the pain and damage from the barb ripping it's way out
New fisherman here, this just relieved so much anxiety for me when i am stuck on something and yanking it free as well as fumble a lure. Appreciate this so much
If you can sacrifice the hook, push it further into your skin until its tip comes out through the other end. Cut off the tip, now you can trace the hook out of your skin without yanking and tearing off your skin. This is wayyy more painful, but more advisable especially when the hook is REALLY deep in your flesh and you want to avoid extensive damage around the wound.
Somehow knew to do this, despite no knowledge or experience, in a DREAM i had...pushed it through my pinky toe and tracked it just like you said....I have a horrid fear of fish hooks and I pray I never have to use this advice in the waking world....
I don't know after watching it over and over it looked like the barb was gone. Then I'm like we'll that means he hooked himself on purpose just to teach us. I already like you guys and watch your videos but dang he's making sure to keep his viewers😂
Same cause had a treble like this past the barb in my finger and I couldn’t get that just eventually cut the treble hook down enough to just pull it through. And honestly didn’t hurt surprisingly
@@LovingDeantheGodMachine333 I've had a similar experience except one of the trebles was in my finger, 1 in the fish and 1 in my anchor rope. Ended up just cutting the rope and fishes head off and had no pliers on me so I had to drive in with a lure in my finger with a fish head attached to it. But yeah all the pain goes away once you pull the hook through, it's more relieving
It’s apart of being a fisherman most of their hand have a thick layer of skin but not calluses bc they’re hand heal and instead of calluses forming it makes the skin tuff which is y there was no blood
As a nurse myself, I genuinely cringed and went “Ah!” at the removal part of the video because it’s one of those “you heard of it but haven’t seen it” things. Thank you for sharing and good form on being calm and collected during the whole thing. Quick, clean, and no real visible damage. Still get it checked out though 😅
It was on the flat side of his palm it woulda been way too painful to try to push it through. Yeah if it goes through the bottom of your finger you could maybe angle it through to snip it and back it out. I really don't think this is that time . I cut a rooster tail outta my finger years ago and it wasn't fun at all. Much smaller hook
Dude. I can’t believe this. My friend caught a bass while using his crank bait. And somehow his bait got really deep into his ring finger. I searched up how to fix this and came across this video and it worked amazingly !

there is no way this guy doesn't have the biggest calves and tiniest nerve system, he probably put that in his hand for a vid. then took it out. true legend.
Have a 12 inch loop section tied to something already, that way you can do it 1 handed. Just flip the end of the loop into that shape and put the hook through it. Then you use the technique by yourself pulling against the solid object
I had one so deep it hit some nerves once. Ever since then, I NEVER use my hands to grab them, a fish gripper ($20) will save your hands and fingers. Weirdest thing is the fish are 100% calmer when they are clamped down with the gripper.
@@froginabucket7294it doesn't matter where it is, it matters how long you leave it without getting it stitched or if you even need to. If a puncture wound is deep enough and you don't give it attention quick enough you could get nerve damage, but fishing hooks don't make wounds nearly big or deep enough for that to be a problem
Bro needs a medal for that performance Last time I got a hook in my hand I didnt give anyone time to assist I let out a slurry of words that would get you in trouble nowadays and then used my pliers and to get it out all in a 15 second time frame. My fishing partner hears me comes running thinking I hurt myself sees me bleeding and holding a hook and laughing and verbally expresses while you never do what I did by yourself
I did the same and I think I hit a nerve because I felt a cold sharp ache pain. I want be pushing through again but it was fine after I cut and pulled it out.
@@jtotherog nerve pain ain’t no joke I slept on the hardwood floor after drinking all day and I slept for prolly 15 hrs on my leg and cut circulation off. My foot swelled up huge couldn’t walk right for months. At night it would burn it felt like my foot had hot coals inside of it and not shit I could do about it
Im worried if the cut on the hook produces metal dust that may get caught in the wound when the rest of the hook is pulled back through the wound. Not sure if its just a paranoia
I've seen this done in other videos, but not up close like this. I know it's gnarly to see up close, but just in case this ever happens I'm glad to know what to do. Thank you Tim!!! ❤
My uncle had a great way to get hooks out of peoples hands. He would wrap a string around a hook a certain way and the person would hold the line the hook was attached to and my uncle would hold each end of the string he wrapped around the hook and pull in opposite directions and the hook would basically twist itself out.
I did this to a kid at a Lake Michigan boat launch that had a hook from a salmon spoon in his hand. He was super scared and nervous. I rigged it up and told him, okay, on 3 , ready? Went 1.. then popped it out on 2. He just laughed 😊
My dad was lifting a 24 of beer out of the trunk of our car, a treble hook was stuck in the box from the floor of the trunk, as soon as he started to walk towards the house he started yelling. One hook was in the case the other hook went through his belly, he couldn’t set the case of beer down. I had to slowly empty the case of all the bottles, then cut the hook from the cardboard, he needed three stitches because of the weight of the beer, it tore his skin. He yelled at me for not putting his fishing equipment away properly.😂
Always put the tools away where you got them from, put the toys back where you got them from. And always make a list of inventory and record who’s taking your tools at any point in time. Now you know who should have it, who to blame, and who to trust. Family matters, but family does matter.
I love that Tim can still make a happy, smiling, educational video with a 10xd sized treble hook buried deep into the nerves of his palm lol Jigs, Swimbaits and puncture wounds 👍
A lot of times doctors will manipulet the hook so the tip amd barb come back out of the hand and then snip it off before pulling it out. This helps save nerves and tendons from being caught on the barb.
Bro, I've been there with an even smaller hook so I know how hardcore you gotta be in order to be this calm. That shit hurts, even while it's just sitting there.
@@ThugDollXOThe saves outweigh the losses by an extensional amount so it’s worth it. Plus that’s just how the world works, the faster you get used to it, the less it would hurt😁😐
Another tip. i’m 11 years old and i have been fishing since i was about 5. I absolutely love it, besides that here’s my tip, if you ever get a normal fishing rod hook stuck in your finger do not just pull it out. Instead of pulling it out you need to slowly ease it out by wiggling it, this probably already has happened to most of you but this is for the ones that haven’t, i have had many hooks in my finger mainly by putting bait on my hook and my finger might get too close or it might slip. Hope that helped anyway 😊
Thank you! I got a fish hook out of my husband’s leg this weekend. I’m an ER nurse and we should start doing this in the ER instead of the difficult way we remove them.
Omg I saw this about a year ago and just buried one in my thumb way past the barb by myself on the boat. I tried this technique and it worked perfectly. Thank you for saving my day so I could stay out and continue to fish. Since it is hard to fish with a big old trouble hooking your hand.
WOW!!! I a see that by pulling the hook in opposite direction of the barb, it stretched the hole in the skin making hole bigger and wow!!! Hook is out! GREAT!!!! Thank you!!! 😊👍
This ladies and gents is why I always use barbless/debarbed hooks. You may lose the odd fish (and if you hook set properly you should never have this problem in first place), but you never have to worry about being on the end of a barb.
I also feel it's more humane (relatively-speaking) to not have a fish endure the additional pain of thrashing or going against the reel with a barb trapped in its jaw.
@@dannygordon1106 You can take some pliers and just press down the barb and it works the same. That's what I've done with the tackle box I got from my dad. it also evens the field a bit more with the fish

Also dont ripped a barbed hook out if you feel nerve pain. Dont want to rip a nerve out of your whatever!

What's funny is it don't really hurt. Been there several times. This trick really works.
That is a very important thing to do to minimize the pain and damage from the barb ripping it's way out
I took a picture with the bass while still hooked. Lol drove to the er with one hand. It didn't really hurt.

Tim, when this happens again show us the solo version.
Maybe tie the braid to a fixed object, and you yank with your hand.
Push the hook further in while angling it so the barb emerges from the skin. Then clip the barb portion off and remove the hook.
Have a 12 inch loop section tied to something already, that way you can do it 1 handed. Just flip the end of the loop into that shape and put the hook through it. Then you use the technique by yourself pulling against the solid object
It's easy. Been there removed that.
Best way to do it is to tie the tag end to something and you pull.
I had one so deep it hit some nerves once. Ever since then, I NEVER use my hands to grab them, a fish gripper ($20) will save your hands and fingers. Weirdest thing is the fish are 100% calmer when they are clamped down with the gripper.
That's the best advise .I've been hooked by flipping fist too.Use that grabber!
I use a pair of grippers as well, got hooked once and the fish thrashed... not something I want to go through again.

My uncle had a great way to get hooks out of peoples hands. He would wrap a string around a hook a certain way and the person would hold the line the hook was attached to and my uncle would hold each end of the string he wrapped around the hook and pull in opposite directions and the hook would basically twist itself out.
Never seen someone smile with a hook in their hand👏👏 respect
We appreciate you putting a hook in your hand just to teach us how to remove it…that’s dedication!!
- Does it pain?
- What is pain?
prior to removal cut the other two hooks first so you don’t set them into your hand as you remove the one that’s embedded
Thats what I was thinking, it would be my luck that when yanking it out, it would rotate just enough for a different barb to go in.
At least pinch the barbs of the other 2 hooks if someone is in pain and cant stand the pressure of you trying to cut the other 2 hooks off.

He yelled at me for not putting his fishing equipment away properly.😂
..lol..that's funny..he had to blame someone..first beer removed, you should've cracked that one open and started frinking it..
That’s funny but crazy story.
Always put the tools away where you got them from, put the toys back where you got them from. And always make a list of inventory and record who’s taking your tools at any point in time.
Now you know who should have it, who to blame, and who to trust.
Family matters, but family does matter.
I bet you were pretty drunk after you slowly emptied the bottles too. He should have helped, might not have felt a thing.

Hope that helped anyway 😊

I always cut the Barb’s off of the remaining hooks first
This ladies and gents is why I always use barbless/debarbed hooks.
Thats pretty cool, I never knew there was a barbless option. Learn something new every day I guess.
@@dannygordon1106 You can take some pliers and just press down the barb and it works the same. That's what I've done with the tackle box I got from my dad. it also evens the field a bit more with the fish
