The best band that nobody in America knows about. These guys melt my mind.
Absolutely amazing.
this band has, without question, the best rhythm section i’ve ever had the pleasure of hearing. the drummer and bassist go so far beyond the concept of “in the pocket” that they’re practically sewing the pants. it’s the most incredible chemistry between players i’ve ever seen
I think u must to see bombino in the jam in the van the sound is much butter
That drummer is a F*CKING MACHINE!!!!!!
They get better every time I hear them.
everyone here is absolutely slaying their instrument and just crushing their role within the band... casual observers might think that Mdou's lead guitar or Souleymane Ibrahim's drums are the most difficult to play, but the lightning fast hands of Ahmoudou Madassane's rhythm guitar and Mike Coltun's unrelenting hammer fingers at the bass (both of which are utterly machine-like in their constant precision) are at least equally astounding.. Afrique Victime might be the most unique, distinctive, and inspired electric musical fusion to be recorded in at least the last 10 to 15 years... I don't have enough standing ovations to give this band; absolutely incredible
yeah, this is something that not everybody comes across even once during their own human experience. the whole band is fantastic together and every single member is essential to the outcome. we are so lucky to see and especially hear this. especially the ones who realize the weight of it. i can't stop listening. i mean relistening and relistening... i should have gone to sleep a long time ago
New to me wow they wail! My fav band is Tinariwen and these guys are tight!
@@tolvajakos yeah. I feel pity for those that only come across a performance like this once in their lives.
Yep. You took the words right out of my mouth. This is beautiful, simply.
Ahmoudou Madassane's solo album is really good :) give it a listen if you haven't already !
the new heavy weight champion of the stratocaster.
Thank you KEXP for helping me find so much great music over the years.
In all my life I have never heard anyone play the guitar like that he's not playing the guitar he is speaking to you through the guitar, the guitar is speaking.
And that drummer he's on fire SOLID.
That bass player has a very good groove flawless.
and the second guitarist is perfect supporting the structure of the compositions he knows exactly how important that is.
Amazing how this music sounds both completely familiar and yet totally foreign at the same time.
After this performance, KEXP audience forgot everything they knew about music. On the other hand, and this comments is by no means directed to KEXP, I can't stand labels like "psychedelic", when referring to music made by non-Western people, that pushed the limits. Africa Unite.
This is a new genre of music. Not heard before.
we are all lucky my friends. we are witnessing something incredible.
Oh my god, I had my player accidentally set to 1.25x, so you can imagine my bewilderment at those licks.
No, wait, still bewildered. Awesome.
Lol😂
Life is good. Life is even better with Mdou Moctar.
That drummer is killer!
man this band is TIGHT - what a breath of fresh air
Outstanding. Awesome. Brilliant. Thank you to the UA-cam Algorythm for suggesting them and thank you KEXP for posting...great music.
Is that guy wearing a traditional dress or a space suit? These guys are the definition of rad. This is what the Internet was designed for. KEXP is uncommodified music at the peak of instant communication. This is beyond entertainment, not designed to be consumed, but to be really enjoyed, felt, experienced, and shared.
Yeah its a traditional Clothes for tuaregs people and also Saharan habitants ,
Tight AF,these&halfway in I could've sworn Frank Zappa was alive when I closed my eyes:High praise from me,I've been 2 many100s of concerts since my bro took me 2 a legendary Zappa&Mothers festivalgig by Oslo73,@age7.He was THE gr8 improviser @172IQ(me176,we're a rare breed), but this kid's fingerpicking is right up there.Jimi, Fripp,Belew&Prince r proof that IQ matters. Many players r fast, but these hit ALL the right notes @speed.☮️&❤2all here from an Old Norse God,we're in d right place&in it 2gether! BigUp BBC6 4 playing d Gr8est music🎉
Lucky enough to be in the room for this set.... they totally melted my face off! So, so special ❤️❤️❤️
Lucky!!
Rad
Badass
He doesn’t just play guitar, he speaks through it
I can't get enough 😩 this music hits my soul 🙌🙌🙌
So true.
0:27 Takoba
7:03 Ya Habibti
13:27 Chismiten
21:41 Afrique Victime
Awesome performance!
is takoba on spotify? i know takamba
@@offtheleashman hoping it's going to be on an upcoming album? Saw them preform this song live about a month ago
grazie
This bass player is the soul of this band
They take you on a JOURNEY
Just finished the full video... I've never wanted a band to "make it" more than these guys. They dessrve the happiness of being able to put food on the table with their music. Pure humans these guys.
First Khruangbin, now Mdou Moctar. I always find cool bands on this channel. Thank you KEXP!
All are professional musicians, but the singer guitarist is outstandingly talented! Glad to have come across you! Rock on!
Mdou's playing is reaching a higher level! Thats what touring all year long will do for you!
So happy to see Mdou Moctar get so much love. Truly stands in a class of his own and has an incredible band
Exactly
mdou moctar much love from Algeria

Fabulous musicians. Mdou is a wizard on Guitar. Hear lots of influences and still he is himself Brilliant. Rhythm section Holy Fry Bread. Bass sweet sounds. The Drummer is other Worldly.. youza loved it.❤🎵🎼🌙
Ecstatic drumming. Bravo!!
The drummer is simply awesome! And he works really well with the basist.
The best band out there these days, these guys are simply incredible.
This is the best new music I have heard in the world - dudes are amazing, and really deserve massive attention and success.
This is like a young middle eastern Carlos Santana making magic!🥰💗
This is possibly the best band that has ever existed.
Aweosme !!! SPIRIT OF AFRICA - brilliant work!
they really need to get more people in there.. this band has vibrant audiences in Africa
So looking forward on seeing Mdou Moctar in Australia in March 2023 😁
I can’t believe I am going to see him at my local pub in northern NSW - from Niger to my town! Can’t wait!! 😅
One of the most incredible guitarists out there... Was great to see this pop up in my UA-cam feed this morning, really enjoyed his previous KEXP set. Thanks for featuring great artists like this, KEXP!
Same! Really enjoyed his last set, Mdou is a beast
And all w/o a pick
I could run across the Sahara listening to this.
I'd like to join the chorus of folks stating that this totally and utterly slays - incredible stuff.
These guys opened the last Jack White shows in Paris. It was very cool.
These guys are the definition of authentic and bad ass fuckin rock!
There's something special about this sound
That part from 26:08 is absolutely mind blowing! Must be one of the best guitarists around currently. A modern-day, Saharan Jimi Hendrix!
That's a trick from the 80's, best done with LOADS of digital delay and reverb!
Was reading the comments and lifted my head up exactly at 26:08 😮
@J B Ok looking forward to see your KEXP performance. Please link here, I want to be impressed by a real guitar player
@J B i found his solos much more impressive on the first KEXP set, but i'm pretty sure he levelled with the band to play as a group since then. I love the new sound too, but the first album is something special. I'm sure they will top it, though. Time is on their side, as Nina once said.
As a guitar player, I am completely impressed
WOW! Every member of that band is just CRAZY! wowowowoww!!!
So many Fender instruments - love the Mustang bass - thanks Leo!
Drummer put in work!
waw waw! im amazigh From Morocco ! Mdou Moctar and Bombino are the best africain actors ever :'(
Saw them in Toronto a few years ago, incredible band, the drummer is a monster
Waiting for them to come again so I can see them 🥺
@@omairsheikh3982they're coming on the 25th to the Phoenix.
The way he shreds with that index fingernail is wild. Such a fun band live
It’s not easy to play in such a way but it’s worth it to gain the muted, soft tones that picks can’t achieve as well.
Mdou moctar is for me - the most impressive musician when I'm listening to Tuareg music. I cannot even find the right words to express what I feel when I hear him and his art .
i agree. it is beyond words.
Agree, his style can speak to the whole world I think
Awesome live
They are incredible! I love them! I wish I could see them live in the future
I think mdou best song end the niger... and bombino... thanks for oll this, from sodan 🇸🇩
This is a real masterpiece in the current modern era ,this is so perfect music to my ears loved it 🔥🔥
Pure art. Talents. Amazing groove. See you in concert.
Brilliant! My new favorite band! Wow!
I went to many concerts in 2021, but mdou moctar topped them all. This band is a MUST SEE

Saw these guys at Sonic Blast Fest 2022....just a truly incredible INCREDIBLE vibe, music, playing, and atmosphere, everyone just dancing and aaalllll good vibes.
I dragged my daughter and friend to see this great band in little dive bar in Denver recently. Room was packed, wooden floor was bending. Epic!
Some real dingdang rock & roll happening right here. How lucky we are to hear them!
Randomly saw these guys live at Pitchfork. They were the show of the day. Amazing live.
Chismiten, what a powerful song, a pure explosion of rhythm! Congrats guys.
love it, its giving me king gizzard vibes
Absolutely amazing!!! One of the best live performances I ever watched in real life or on YT - and I saw some yet during the last 40 years 😅. Most impressive is imo that all the virtuosity is completely serving the songs 🔥👌🏻😎
Wow, What a great performance

22:51 wohuuuuhuuuu
Man! There’s a hard-working band! Awesome!
Very cool to see them with their shiny new instruments of success.
Amazing, he's like a crossing of Tinariwen and Jimi Hendrix with that left handed strat and pinkie rings!
I also hear a bit of Zappa
@@tomvesely4008 Agreed !!
Yes! Good call
More like Santana
The Faithful play Fender! These guys are incredible. ins'Allah, we will see him much more in the near future. Thanks for promoting his amazing talent, KEXP.
African Hendrix. Wow!!
Saw them a few months ago in Winston Salem and while I was bummed that the room wasn’t full, man were they cookin’ that night. Their energy is mesmerizing, especially live!
Check out Imarhan second album. Similar sound.
Incredible polyrhythmics and guitar attack!
This is why I’m a KEXP Amplifier. Good god this band good!!!! 🤯🤯🤯
Absolutely killer! These guys flat rip it up. What a fantastic performance, and "Afrique Victime" was mind bending. Love it, thanks KEXP and keep 'em comin'!
drummer putting in work
Drummer could double as an atomic clock. Absolute insane timing.
This is awesome inventive guitar playing and the rest of the band is freakin tight...I would love to see him play a microtonal guitar.....
I've had these guys on my phone since I first hear about Music from Saharan Cellphone... Feeling cool for being early on them. :-P
Love these guys please come to Australia !!!
YES!!!!!
Pleasssse yes
I'm just discovering this band last night and I must say I'm liking what I hear.
Mahalo from CommieFornia aka California USA🇺🇸
TBD3.0(Toothless Bull Dog 3.0)
❤❤❤Quelle mélodie ! Un génie ❤
these guys are the homies
Halal Hendrix is back.
When you take the guitar e tell a history about your country, your enviroment where you growed. Like this i see this guys.
really digging the long musical breaks they have in their songs. they have some bangers
My man never disappoints.🔥🔥🔥So glad to see him on KEXP
Gotta LOVE these guys and their hard work musical ethics. Excellent percussion timing and smooth transitions. This is similar to some of the great house music that I was privileged to witness in several trips to the south of France during their festival season July - August. Many bands came from North Africa and the seasonal tourists just adored these musicians. Thank You for posting.
Unbelievably incredible!!
Hell yeah! Saw them in Birmingham and they completely rocked the whole show this performance captures that energy
you are so lucky to have seen them live
