This is without doubt the best situation a #1 overall pick QB has ever walked into. 2 WRs that would be WR1s on a lot of teams, an above average TE, at least average oline, ok run game, great young defense and maybe most important the team still has a future in draft picks. Most teams that have the #1 pick either earned it through a terrible team or gave up their future draft picks to get it. Bears have a team that’s growing and they have a solid future. They’ve got all their picks in 2025 along with the Carolina 2nd and the Steelers conditional 6/4 pick and the Dolphins 6th. That Carolina pick is likely going to be early since I see no signs Carolina takes any big jumps forward.

I mean the bears have keenan allen, dj moore, cole kmet, a good LT and RT, a new playcaller, and a defense thats trending up. I think its a solid spot to go. And them not getting players back for fields was not a bad move. Fields just didnt have value.

Keenan is old and at the age where WR fall of the cliff, they only have 1 good tackle, the other one is suspect a d didn’t improve at all. Also the reports saying the Bears took a lesser deal from the Steelers because the GM wanted to do right by Fields. Sounds like they knew their team situation kinda screws over Fields, but they at least acknowledged it and wanted to help him out as best they can

That’s partly why I’m so upset with them trading Fields. Poles has been tanking the entire time he’s been in office. Hiring a first time play caller and Defense coach was a terrible choice. We had a young qb who needed vets to help him and the team.
@@Mikeschannel1991 tbh I like fields but it just made sense to move on now more than any other time. Plus poles did right by fields and worked out a trade for the team Justin wanted. The roster is built well now, and they’ll have a championship window with their rookie contract qb to be able to keep building the roster.
I mean, they did just give up on the number 11 draft pick three years ago when he was only getting better and better each season, so what's to say they won't do the exact same thing if Caleb Williams isn't almost automatically one of the best QB's in the league.

Gutted the team, trashed Fields reputation with a bottom 5 line with the worst QB pressuring in the league, started to build a team that any QB would need, and then sends him to be a backup. Anyone saying it was for a team Justin wanted is buying the typical CYA BS from any organization. "Hey Justin, where do you want to go? How about a team that just signed a franchise QB which means you won't start in your contract year and you'll probably be out of the league in two years without ever getting a chance to start" "Yes, that's what I want". And now he finished the rebuild before it was finished and has no draft capital to continue it in future years. Bears still aren't the best team in their division (3rd at this point) and have no room to grow. No cap, no draft picks of any note this year since they have to burn #1 on a QB, no future draft capital. If they were going to get rid of him, they should have cut him when they cut Jackson and Whitehair so he could at least pursue his own signing before all the QBs were traded/signed in free agency. Instead, they waiting until there was no where for him to go and gave him to a team as a backup. He deserved better simply because of the absolute crap hand he was dealt by a terrible organization (said as a 54 year long Bear fan).

Ryan Poles did not draft Justin Fields, he inherited him from Ryan Pace. The rebuild is near completion because the Bears spent a boatload of money during free agency. Unfortunately Fields was a cap casualty, so you take Caleb Williams on a rookie contract.

20 years ago the Bears were in the process of building a championship caliber defense. They went to the SB in 2006 and NFC championship in 2010. Don't forget how good that defense was in 2018 as well. I understand we've had more bad years than good over the last decade but cmon man.

good young defense, good o-line, very good weapons, a ton of cap space and a several significant assets still to spend to improve this roster even more
they were almost .500 with some of the worst QB play in the league, the roster is already better than it was, it will still be even better by week 1, and Caleb will be an INSTANT upgrade over anything Fields could ever do on his best days, this team could easily be in the playoffs next year.... people are clueless these days man lol "oh i wouldn't go there" loser mentality

If it was the Bears of old then I might agree but the bears as of late seem to moving with a lot purpose, further upgrading weapons, upgrading the O-line (hopefully they continue to do so in the draft), they already have a solid running back and a solid defense. It's a tough division though, I don't know how Caleb does in cold weather or snow games so it'll be interesting.

100x better situation than Washington or New England. This is an absolute clown take from RG3. Wish someone would call him out and ask him to actually explain why he thinks those are better spots for Caleb, because it makes zero sense.
Fields picked Pittsburg. Bears gave it to him over some better offers because it gives him the best chance to make starter. Russell will be 36 years old this year and coming off a bad injury. The Bears did right by Fields.
As a Bears fan.... I am not of the belief Caleb is the guy. However if Caleb is who we roll with i hope he can live up to legendary. Im always gonna root for the team
It's funny because as a Washington fan I see a ton of similarities between RG# and Celb and I've been saying it. They have differences athletically, but both were great college QBS who were way too egotistical and... eccentric to lead an NFL locker room full of bullies. I think they will have equal success in their NFL careers and then have great conversations in the TV booth about their designer socks and painted nails

the NFL needs to instate a rule that if you refuse to play for the team that drafts you, you are ineligible to play in the league for 3 years, and you forfeit half your future nfl earnings to the team that drafted you. Enough is enough.

I love how Pat is in the background during the RBGIII rant going, "what happened to your career there..." Now follow up his rant with answering the exact points he made, Caleb wants to go to a team that's going to help him get wins, is that the team with all the talent he just mentioned but ignored, or is that the team that's fire saling their defense and future in the "D.C. area team?" It seems to me that the Bears are following the Lion's mold. Take that suck, turn it into potential and a future. I was someone who wanted to see if Fields could turn it around but I understand it became a money decision, last year of the contract, a number of games blown late as turnovers cost the Bears several games in a year that they passed on the #1 pick and dedicated to figuring out if he was "the guy." The Bears were pretty open with the fact that 2023 was the season they were going to make their decision. Overall, it seemed to me that the pick they got for him isn't about how little they respect him as other people seem to keep indicating, but but what they could get as well as the reported internal arrangement to get him where he wanted to go. A little A, a little B, so be it. Ever since the Keenan Allen trade my hopes that they would go get MHJ faded and the Fields trade solidified that. If Odunze's still there, I'd be just as happy for them. Unless Joe Alt is still there at 9 ... that kid is a beast.
