I live in Japan. No one has any idea this happened cuz football isn’t on 99% of people’s radar here. That being said, never underestimate the Japanese in any sport. These kids here spend hours upon hours practicing and training everyday. It’s why Japan has become such a powerhouse in baseball. Kids practice up to 8 hours a day. They’ll go to school and then practice baseball until after the sun goes down. I guarantee you they do this for football too.
What people don't realize is that Japan's mindset is perfectly fit for team sports. Every player on Team Japan knew exactly what was expected of them, large or small. And they gave 100% for each act. You can tell the American team wasn't on the same wavelength and everything was based on an individual perspective. Even at the end there was a player who just walked off in anger and didn't bother to congratulate the winning team.
Most sports…in basketball they still get tossed around by a lot of other country’s…same with soccer..and even baseball they didn’t face the United States best pitchers or our best players at ever position by any means and they barely won. And there ice hockey teams might as well not exist..Also not going into rugby, cricket and so on.
I don’t know about other sports, but its football (soccer) team is very good. Their U23 team faces Spain in the qtr finals of the Olympics and it could go either way. Spain are obviously favourites, but it wouldn’t be a shock if Japan won.
I know this is a "Haha America lost" moment" but I actually like this. The fact that Japan has football players that can beat us (even if they're obviously not our best lol) only helps grow the game. Hopefully some young japanese kids watch that game and gain interest in football.

@66korean 99% of Japan barely knows what American football is other than the fact that Americans play it. They're pool of players to draw from is much smaller than the US who have a huge draw. Japan has maybe a couple hundred guys if that who dedicate significant amounts of time to playing the sport. It doesn't really matter that these aren't the best players in the US when you put it in perspective. Baseball is even more of an American original sport and some of the best players in the MLB are Japanese. Shohei Ohtani, arguably the best baseball player of all time hails from Japan. They have an exceptional culture.

Pat and the team need to chill, man! Everyone knows that if the USA were to field its top U20 players, likely all Division 1 athletes, it would dominate the tournament. However, the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) aims to promote the sport globally. USA Football supports IFAF's strategy to make football accessible and competitive internationally in all its formats, including flag and tackle. While the current USA team may not be as talented as a top-tier roster, it offers a valuable opportunity for these young players to represent their country. Though still considerably better than most international teams, this team is not overwhelmingly strong, which could lead to challenges from stronger programs like those in Japan and Austria. Beyond the USA and Canada, countries such as Japan, Austria, and Germany have developed robust American Football programs. I'm from New Zealand, and we play American football here, too. But we are not on the same level as Japan or Austria. They would kick our ass any day.
Yeah, I’d much rather another country win and have the sport be more popular there than the US send the actual best lineup and dominate like a top 5 team stomping an unranked small school

@@dopereflx7203 This was the an under 20yo game not sure how many d1 players are willing to risk it and lose their scholarships if they get hurt for an exhibition game.
@@dopereflx7203 I know, having been involved in the sport here in New Zealand for many years at both local and national levels, that American Football is a team sport like no other. The amount of resources required-from funding and administration to especially coaching-is enormous, as each position is so unique and demands specialised skills and strategies. Moreover, the infrastructure needed to support American Football, like playing fields suited to the sport's requirements and safety equipment, is substantial. These factors make the development of the sport particularly challenging in countries where it is not already a mainstream activity. This is why I believe the USA's fielding of a less dominant team on the international stage can be seen as a supportive gesture-it provides a more level playing field and encourages the sport's growth globally. By participating, the USA builds a competitive international environment that mirrors the developmental paths seen in other sports like basketball. As countries develop their programs and improve their levels of play, it leads to a richer, more diverse competitive scene at international tournaments, benefiting the sport as a whole. This approach helps other nations catch up and enriches the American Football landscape, making it a truly global sport.
Few D3 guys and 1-3 D2 players. Is it really surprising though? Are you going to risk injury and losing your starting spot on an SEC or B1G team to go play in an exhibition game that means nothing?

I live in Japan. No one has any idea this happened cuz football isn’t on 99% of people’s radar here. That being said, never underestimate the Japanese in any sport. These kids here spend hours upon hours practicing and training everyday. It’s why Japan has become such a powerhouse in baseball. Kids practice up to 8 hours a day. They’ll go to school and then practice baseball until after the sun goes down. I guarantee you they do this for football too.
they are a people with natural 'tism, always gives them a chance.

I played semi-pro football in Germany for 4 years and they had some good players and very good teams, but the reason they were fgood was because of the American player that were allowed to be on the field on each side, offense/defense, which was typically 2 to 3 at one time.

@@maxcrss2845 Football in America is highly competitive and lucrative we know no other country can beat a legitimate team. Just the high school level in Texas is ruthless it’s a way a life down there been playing since they could walk some of them.

Let me get this straight..... We lose to them in Baseball now we lose to them in Football. What's next? Basketball?
