I enjoyed hearing your ups and downs with these steps! I remember watching Queen City's tutorial on this and it was awesome and I am so glad to see you trying it out. Playing around with color is one of the best ways to get started in color theory I think. I still don't fully understand every aspect, but just going for it is the fastest way to move forward. Your steps did go through several color changes but I like what you chose in the end a lot!

I don't think the color changing steps are over! lol Knowing me that when I try to color match the walls and floor I'll have to do something to fix it. Maybe one day I'll understand how to color match! lol

10:41 Honestly, I think it looks great at this point. In some of her videos QCM goes back and adds white to the stone for that totally trodden on look.
It came out great overall. Very worn and good.
I'm with you about colour theory, so hard. Every time I complain about my dry brushing learning curve (flat), my wife (who has been painting Warhammer figures since her teens, tells me I don't have enough layers on. So I'm slowly learning about colours through layers and layers of dry brushing. I'm not even going to go into how bad my wash technique is....
I'm glad to have found your channel.

It's beautiful, stop comparing your talents to other people, your talents are wonderful. I truly enjoyed this stop feeding yourself with negative comments, bring out what you did right what you're happy with, because there is no right there is no wrong you're an artist.

Hi Kev, I appreciate your panic attack and all you went through (maybe still going through) more than you know 😄. I think it's a right of passage and a learning experience. I've watched dozens of YT videos from other modelers to learn even more (Black Magic Crafts, BHM, Towen, etc.). You've made good progress so don't get discouraged and do take a break. Good luck with your castle project and I'll be watching for the finale.

Thank you very much! I watch all those channels, but if you have any other recommendations, I would love to hear them! I’m always looking for more UA-cam channels to watch!

It’s a hobby. Take time, be happy with it in the end. Make notes of successes and challenges. You did great.Medievally, the lord and lady’s table sat higher than those at the lower tables. Think Tudor last supper.

That's what I'm trying to do! Makes notes and apply that knowledge going forward. It's... KIND of working haha.

I too watched queen city minis tutorial on egg crate stonework then I watched yours. I've tried it and it came out pretty good. I did a different color palette but I think you , as am I, are our own worst critique. I do pretty good with the dry brush technique but like you, my color wash mixing is really hard for me as well. Not sure what I'm missing. I watch hours and hours of tutorials on the subject. I feel like I'm doing exactly what they are doing and struggle to emulate their really good outcome. When you showed your final reveal my 1st thought was ancient jungle ruins then you said it. But It still looks really great! Good job. Allwe can do is practice. I keep doing practice pieces to hopefully hone some measure of skill. Good luck on future endeavers.

I definitely struggle with the color washing, too! Anything to do with paint can cause me issues, honestly haha. But thank you very much! I'm hoping to get better at the painting aspect as time goes on.

Do you perhaps have aphantasia (where you don't 'see' images in your head?) I semi-recently realized this is why I'm so bad at colors, so it helps tremendously to have an exact (or close) color pallet to copy from so I am not just flailing to figure out what colors should go together. For the impatient among us, a heat gun/hair dryer is useful for speeding up drying LOL
I think your final result is great! I am just beginning to dip my toes into miniatures, so this was a fun watch. Very excited to see more!

Very interesting you could tell! I do in fact have aphantasia. It makes crafting things quite hard sometimes. It’s a huge reason I’m horrible with color I think.

Hey, so I have been using this method for like the last two years because I am recovering different Barbie castles to look realistic and I am also bad at color theory, so what I have done to combat that instead of making myself crazy I just buy the good expensive paint the onesI mix those together and I keep track of which color gray I used or brown I used and that’s it and I try to read on color theory on Skillshare or tutorials but not on my projects because it makes me crazy so maybe that will help you

Thank you! I think that will definitely help. I recently watched a video on color theory, and it felt like my brain short circuited haha. But I’ll keep trying.

Way too much moving, moving moving, around when your trying to show the detail closeup. Otherwise, thru all your learning curve of figuring it out as you go, it turned out very good. I'm learning the whole color wash and dry brushing skill as well. I'm inconsistant, one time it looks really good the next time I follow the same technique and it just ends up muddy and murky mess and I have no idea why.

Sorry about that! I’m still learning how to record videos/show my work! I’ll work on it.
