I’m way late to the chat but none the less I’m here. I’d take that 7.3 truck over the 6.0. The 6.0 is to big for no reason. The 7.3 truck sits just right for a useable truck.
What people don’t know is the late model 6.0s had less recall claims then the late model 7.3s according to Powerstroke help. Remove the EGR, change oil and coolant regularly and don’t run tunes and you’ll be fine. The lower end of the 6.0- rods etc. is more durable then the lower end of the 7.3. The 6.0 head bolts and oil cooler are the weak point of that motor.
Just based solely on body style, and less, suspension lift, I'd prefer the 7.3L truck. It had just the small extra cab (versus full sized door/back seat) and it was closer to stock height. If I were to chose just based on the engines, I would pick the 6.0L, and just bite the bullet on upgrading the oil cooler, and EGR cooler, and being meticulous about fluid changes. My rig is 2003, F150 7700 4WD extra cab, but have thought it might be cool to own early 2000s F250 w/6.0L if I found one w/low miles.
Both awesome motors! 6.0 needs a little massaging though before she's up to par of the 7.3 as far as reliability. I have a 7.3 F350 that I love dearly. She's starting to fall apart from the WI winters, but always been a good truck.
I only bought dodge trucks before I owned I bought my 6.0 I got rid of the old egr cooler and bought a bullet proof one by bullet proof desiel and I did the up grades to the egr screen oil cooler, the dummy plugs, stand pipe and the connection to the oil pump all OEM but the oil cooler and its a beast going up hill with 20 market steers in trailer. I'm very impressed with its performance. My grandpa's 7.3 has about 400k plus miles on it all stalk parts last year I cleaned it up a bit replace the belts and hoses and it still is running hard. We both use synthetic oil and OEM fluids for the Differentials, transfer case and transmission. Oil its always 5000 miles every second oil change the fuel filters get switched out with the air filter and at 40,000 miles the transmission gets changed with both filters and at around 60,000 we do the transfer case and differentials so I get better mileage and more torque form the 6.0 great for long hauls but short in state trips the 7.3 it's a win win for us at the end of the day you keep her clean, lubed up and watch the gauges they will last for ever in my book. My old 1998 dodge 1500 has 560,000 on her she gets the same treatment but it's my cross country hunting and horse truck I joined the Marines in 05 only would come home 1 month of the year if I was lucky and start her right up to go slay some deer and she still pulls like a beast. I really think its all about the maintenance I put my word on it. I think the best work trucks are Dodge and Ford hands down.
I've had both. '02 7.3 and an 04 6.0. Still have the 7.3 with a bunch of miles on it and it's never let me down. The 6.0 had 42k miles on it and everything under the hood except the block had been rebuilt or changed out at the dealership. The last time I had it worked on I wanted to trade it in on another Cummins, but they wouldn't even take it in on trade because they couldn't sell it. The 6.0 is junk unless you spend at least $10k on it bulletproofing it. I'll take a 24 valve 5.9 or a pre def fluid 6.7 Cummins any day over either of them.
7.3 if you plan to own it for awhile and don’t want to drop $10k on a bullet proof. That said owning a rig like this for mall crawling and keeping the truck “clean and fly” is silly. I kind of chuckle at things like tow mirror changes, and smoked lights. Have any of these three trucks had the rear ends re geared for the tires, built up your axles, changed open diffs or LSDs for lockers? Should be running 4.56 gears at a minimum with heavier larger tires, and for real off roading they should have an air or elocker up front and a Detroit locker or Detroit trutrac in the rear. A 6 ton or 8ton winch should also be mounted.

Frank Morreale let me know when your 7.3 rods can handle more than the kiddie power it makes stock. It’s about internals and fact is the 6.0 has stronger internals. Spend a little to fix the quirks, and you have a way better performing engine with same reliability. 7.3 is a turd unless you throw major $$ at it. Performance always comes at a price.
Hey 7.3 owner, let me know how it feels to put the same amount of money in your transmission and rods as it is to bullet proof a 6.0. Oh, also go ahead and throw a tune and exhaust on there and STILL not be able to keep up. While you’re at it, remind me why a 6.0 has more power, better fuel economy, sounds better, and tows better. Sincerely, a bullet proofed 6.0 owner.
I have a 7.3 and my dad has a 7.3 and a 6.0. Both of the 7.3s are really reliable and only need normal things done like brakes and oil. The 6.0 obviously needs normal maintenance but we have had one issue with it, the hpop went leaving my dad stranded on the side of the highway, besides that theyre both great motors, 7.3 is reliable, and the 6.0 makes good power and is semi reliable and does good on fuel.
I can’t say I have personal experience in the matter, but after doing my research and asking owners or both motors, I’d take the 7.3 all day. Mainly because it has the stock reliability for what I want. I want a truck to tow my car and bikes, and to take camping and to the desert. I don’t need power and don’t have much money, so it’s a no brainer (for me at least). No point in spending the money to bulletproof a 6.0 to keep up with the reliability of the 7.3 for daily use

@Justin Fio What brand are the headlights on the 7.3? been looking for a set for my truck and those look sharp. And are they a direct replacement or did he have some cutting to do?
Your buddy with the 6.0 needs to get rid of that aftermarket oil filter cap immediately before he ruins that motor. Those aftermarket caps don't work with the oem fit oil filters. And a lot of the oil will go back into the block unfiltered. Unless he knows what he's doing and is buying the special fit filters for that cap, he needs to pick up an oem cap. Most people who run an aftermarket cap aren't wise enough to know about filter specs.
The 6.0 accelerates faster but the 7.3 will take a house with it. I have also run into the known issue with 6.0 head bolts stretching. 7.3 wins on reliability.
I had a 2007 f250 6.0 and after 3 injectors, 2 egr coolers, oil cooler, ipr I sold it and bought a 2003 excursion with a 7.3 that maybe slower and gets worse mpg but to the defense of the 6.0 I bought used and they get a bad rap because owners do not do the maintenance, put on tuners and drive them like children.
The thing that doomed the 6.0 were drivers that that bought them for status and not for work. The thing that doomed the 7.3 was the epa. I’d drive a 6.0 without a worry in the world.
And that is the EXACT kind of truck that is unreliable. It's not the later model 6.0 05-07 that gives problems (03-04 did have some issues), it's the people making race trucks out of them and then complain when they fail like it's Ford and Internationals fault they souped the thing up. I have done about 300 hours of research on these trucks to educate myself before buying. From what I can tell these are awesome engines with an updated auto trans behind it that fixed 7.3 tranny ssues. They are strong and durable BUT extremely unforgiving when it comes to abuse/stupidity (overtuning/overpowering/overweight towing), owner negligence (maintenance neglect/unattentive owners allowing small problems to become catastrophic) and mechanic negligence (mechanics not properly educated/caring/performing tasks about/on these trucks enough to DO IT RIGHT).
The 7.3 by far, for what you would have to put into a 6 liter to bulletproof it or fix when not if breaks you could you could buy a 7.3 upgrade the turbo chip it and keep it moving.
Either one will treat ya reel nice. I looked for 9 months. I swapped around every week until I finally decided on a 2007 XLT Lariat single wheel... Back in high school I had a 1996 7.3 pissonyourstroke. The best thing in the world is releasing the clutch in 2nd gear and hearing that zf5 put just enough load on the motor to get that unexplainable sound right when she starts rolling. Probably only zf5 7.3 pstrokers know what I mean. That was the hardest decision in my life. Which one??? I'm glad it's over.
Both are kids who only want a cool looking truck and will dump money into the outside so it looks good at the shop, take that money you put into the outside and make your engine rock solid
Dude, we are from the Panhandle of Texas, enough of the wind apologies!!!!!! nobody but Chicago has wind like we do - I mean 330 days of the year, min. nice trucks, let's see how they run
There is no substitute for the 7.3, the six-oh is gay for being fragile, and a Diesel should never be that... Btw, kids sure are getting large allowances from dad these days.
I've owned both. 6.0 hands down. People hate on them so much but they are actually great engines. Night and day difference in power from a 7.3. 3-5k makes sure of it unfortunately. But once it's done she's ready to roll.
So put $3-5k in power mods in a 7.3. My son in law put $15k into bulletproofing his 6.0. It didn’t last another 10,000 miles. His 2004 is dead and my 1996 is still running like it was new. So I guess you could say my 7.3 will definitely put pull his high powered 6.0 all day! But he doesn’t have the fuel bill I do, so that’s a plus! The bus is only $1 both ways to work!

I’ve got a stage 2 bulletproof 6.0 pushing somewhere around 550 to the wheel and a stock 7.3 to tow my 6.0 when it breaks down
Killer video my guy 🤘
Thank bro!🤘
i want to swap my 6.0 to 7.3 on my 06 f250 powerstroke turbo disel its that really complicated???
hi! what do you think about the Ford F250 fx4 off road super duty-gasoline/2005
both trucks are nice!!
Appreciate it 🤘
I had a 2007 f250 6.0 and after 3 injectors, 2 egr coolers, oil cooler, ipr I sold it and bought a 2003 excursion with a 7.3 that maybe slower and gets worse mpg but to the defense of the 6.0 I bought used and they get a bad rap because owners do not do the maintenance, put on tuners and drive them like children.
That dodge probably broke down the next day
Stock 6.0 but had aftermarket parts on the cooling system? How does that work?
7.3 might be more reliable stock, but you bullet proof a 6.0 and it matches if not beats that reliability and already performs better stock anyway
The thing that doomed the 6.0 were drivers that that bought them for status and not for work. The thing that doomed the 7.3 was the epa. I’d drive a 6.0 without a worry in the world.
6.0 ALL MOFO DAY BOOOY!! I got both and love both but 6.0 has my heart!!
INFAMOUS 6.0 🤘🤘
Yea boii!
Justin Fio after $10,000 to bulletproof it
not 10k but keep being ignant
6.0 all day until it busts, Ha. 7.3 all decade.
I own a 1996 f350 7.3L power stroke and it has been fuckin reliable. I wouldn't take a 6.0 because their families for blowing head gaskets
My only issue with the 7.3 so far is lag... If ya don't spool it or takes a min to get some high enough to start spoolin
In the long run 7.3. Because the 6.0 isn’t reliable enough
But my boss has a BEAST 6.0 with a Turbo and SuperCharger and OMG it’s fast
A 7.3 can be fast to though.... understand that
And that is the EXACT kind of truck that is unreliable.
A 6.0 will walk a 7.3 all day.
The 7.3 by far, for what you would have to put into a 6 liter to bulletproof it or fix when not if breaks you could you could buy a 7.3 upgrade the turbo chip it and keep it moving.
use trucks for what their made for, not for mall crawlin and roalin damn smoke
no
How pathetic must one be boasting about the truck and trying to look cool with all those shitty mod?
So much butthurt. Let the young dudes have fun.
Anyone who disses the 7.3 prolly doesn’t own a diesel. Let alone know about them.
Awesome Vid Man Keep Em Rolling 👆
thanks man!
@@justin_fio holy shit I don't remember this at all 😂😂😂
The Gasman Hahahah was just going through older comments and saw it!
@@justin_fio appreciate the feedback 😂😂
I would take MY 6.0 lol, love all of the trucks, keep the videos rolling
Either one will treat ya reel nice. I looked for 9 months. I swapped around every week until I finally decided on a 2007 XLT Lariat single wheel...
Back in high school I had a 1996 7.3 pissonyourstroke. The best thing in the world is releasing the clutch in 2nd gear and hearing that zf5 put just enough load on the motor to get that unexplainable sound right when she starts rolling.
Probably only zf5 7.3 pstrokers know what I mean.
That was the hardest decision in my life. Which one??? I'm glad it's over.
I bought my 2004 Ford F350 lariat 6.0 diesel nov 2003 and just gave it to my son in law who also loves it
6.0 looks better but the 7.3 is such a more reliable engine.
thanks for the feed back!

7.3 all day, everyday.
They are bullet proofed right from Ford factory.
Technically from international but yea
I don’t understand why people buy 4wd when they don’t even need it
All three of you are running the same damn set of Fuel's.
City Slicker McGee Should get a trailer if he’s gonna have those moose mirrors out
Have a 05 6.0 310,000 miles and counting no bullet proof done to it.
I've owned both. 6.0 hands down. People hate on them so much but they are actually great engines. Night and day difference in power from a 7.3. 3-5k makes sure of it unfortunately. But once it's done she's ready to roll.
thanks for the feed back man!
7.3 would b my first choice but I would go with an 05 to 07 6.0 because of power and by then ford got some of the reliability back in there diesels
6.0 but there both very good looking trucks and that Cummins is a very good looking truck also
thanks man !!
6.0 Powerstroke Kinda Partial cause i own a 2006. In process right know of Pulling Heads, doing ARP Studs, O-Ringing the Heads, EGR Delete, KC Stage 2, Warren 175/30,s and Tuning from TSD. Looking for 550 H.P. at the Wheels. Still have Stock Transmission, For Now. Would of Loved to go with KC Stage 3 and some 205,s But it's my Daily Driver, and still gotta Tow a little.
Rimzone is actually about a half hour from where I live. Crazy thing is I followed them on IG and not too long after I bought my new rims I realized they were close to me and I would have probably gotten a better deal. Big fail lol
Trevor Alexander that’s sick yah I heard really good pricing
How do you make a 6 0 bullet proof ?
Andrew Tarula deleted, headstuds, and turner. There is more you can do but that’s the most common.
Yea that tube is the first thing to upgrade when you get a 6.0 our had the plastic one and it fucking exploded
This video is gonna be badass
Kade Roberts thanks man!
Yo Justin Fio like two Ford F250 7.3 Powerstroke and Ford F250 6.0 Powerstroke crew cab love your 05 Ram 2500 5.9 Cummins Diesel 24V Hope to meet you Justin Fio I am friend Mike UhOh 6.0 cool dude now
Tony Gabriele appreciate it brotha🤘
7.3= million mile motor
If you pick a 7.3 then you don’t know a damn thing about powerstrokes. These daddy’s boys don’t know shit either. Bulletproof that 6.0 and i mean a real fuckin bulletproof and that thing will out live a 7.3 no questions. 100% success rate
6.0 all day ! I own one and never had a problem with it .. Keep it simple just like life ... Stay up on maintenance intervals and she’ll treat you right ... just like in life .. stay single and dnt get married & stack 🤑🤑🤑🤑... and get all the ladies you want .✊🏻
7.3 aka "The Million Mile Motor"
6.0 truck with a 7.3 in it haha
appreciate the feedback!
I have to say i give my 7.3l the gold medal i like the 6.0 to but 6.0 has to much power for it to handle and my 7.3 blows the doors off of them all day 7.3l if built up is a beast and still reliable as ever
Country boy cant survive 😂
