You can bleed it this way also mounted to the booster IF you have somebody else to step on the brake pedal
Make sure you keep both lines submerged in the brake fluid at all times

I picked up a Dorman bench bleeding kit but just noticed it has completely opaque tubes. Not sure how that’s supposed to work since it seems you need to be able to see the air bubbles being reduced while you do this. Thanks for sharing. Going to try and find a solution.

When doing this is it normal for the MC to introduce new air if the Piston is pushed in too rapidly?
I would bench bleed it using the brake pedal. Bolt it up but connect the bleeder kit first.

kool video but what if you put the master in without bleeding it? A. do you take it out or B. just bleed it from the breaks cuz you already put air o the lines
How to reattach the brake lines after master cylinder has been bled without letting air back in?
I stopped bench bleeding decades ago. Mount it, fill it, and pump away without opening any bleeders. The air will go up into the reservoir, the cylinder fills, and you're done, no other bleeding required. In some cases the vehicle has to be jacked up or parked on a slope to make sure the cylinder is at the right angle. I generally set it up so that the cylinder is pointed slightly downward at the front which puts the inlet ports at the high point thus letting all the air rise into the reservoir.
With the front higher then the back? Or opposite?
@@tyrc12pro94 The rear of the master higher than the front, but it doesn't need to be a lot. Perfectly level would probably work, but a little bit of slant will make it better. With some vehicles the master is pointed upward so you have to raise the rear of the vehicle, sometimes a lot.
hey man, do you do this with the reservoir lid off or on? or do you just lid shut, pump for a while til it becomes firm and good? i assume it'll take a decent amount of pumping?
@@liamomalley8028 I usually do it with the lid off so I can see the air/fluid. With a lid that completely exposes the reservoir you have to be a bit careful, during the first bit of pedal movement you can get a stream of fluid that'll shoot up out of the master if you press too fast. With reservoirs that have a small cap in the center the stream can't shoot out so it doesn't matter.
What happen if you push the piston and out let valve suck in didn't blow out??

On a 1991 Mazda B2200, the master cylinder has 3 ports. Two on the side and one on the bottom at the forward end of the cylinder. Seems all videos show examples with only 2 outlets. Also, the bleed kits all provide only 2 tubes. Can anyone tell me which ports need to be routed back to the reservoir and what to do with any that is not (plug?)? Thanks.

What happens when you remove the plastic fittings when installing the MC back on the car? Doesn’t air go back in the MC then? Or does it have like a one way valve for air not to go back in?

+Chris Stromberg You only need to perform an abs service bleed when the abs HCU is replaced.
What if my master cylinder has three ports? Same procedure with just another hose to keep submerged?
For what its worth.... I have read in several places that you are not suppose to put your cyl in vice like that. Swivel vice around and clamp it to the flat part right where the two holes are located that mount the MC to the booster. Not sure why, as I have done it several times as you did in video with no problem. Maybe over tightening vice could cause damage or maybe it would be prone to slip if not tight enough.
A vice is the proper support for the bench bleeding process, but you have to be careful not to overtighten it in place. That can damage the seals and internal cups inside and cause failure and leakage.
Does this have 2 exit ports at the bottom, I have to on the side and 2 on the bottom, it’s a 2002 for escort. Should I connect the bleeder tubes on the 2 side ones, or the 2 bottom ones???

So you're saying, "Don't worry about stream of tiny bubbles?" I worked a long time because I had tiny bubbles. Finally figured out that air was being sucked in around the plastic nipples. Was able to eliminate "tiny bubbles" if I worked hard to do a slow "release stroke."
Yeah it's no big deal you will have top do a final bleed on the car.
My Question, once the bench bleeding is completed. you need to remove the two bleeder hoses and remove the plastic inserts. My
Question is once the hoses have been removed the fluid in the reservoir will gravity bleed out. would air be introduced back into the master cylinder? Once I install the master cylinder back into the car, I have to re-hook up the brake lines. To the master cylinder

+Bert Cochran You can perform an abs event stop but only a [atrial actuation of the valves in the HCU occurs.
Anyone a good way to keep from spilling fluid all over the place when you have it in car and are attaching the brake lines, other than just do it quickly?
toober5000 I know I'm a bit late but have someone push and hold down the brakes then connect the lines.
When the MC piston is pushed in it closes the system and won't leak.
After bleeding all 4 corners then have the helper push the pedal down again and crack the line open at the MC and close it before letting go of the pedal. This last step make sure that your letting any little bit of air trapped in the line out

Make sure u buy 2 kits. This is for single disk brake cars.
Hi there. If I want to bleed my ford master cylinder on the car, can I simply take a hose from the front driver side caliper bleeder and stick the other end of the tube in the master cylinder reservoir and bleed it that way?
when you place that on the car and unhook those hoses, fluid immediately starts to come out ( which means that air is entering the master cylinder ). so don't you end up in the same situation that you was in, before you bench bled it? that's the only part that i don't understand.
+Jeff Fuehr The internals are bled that's the difference you will always have air in the lines after any hydraulic component replacement but in this case the master is already bled properly which can be hard to do on car.

No. Fluid is now in the cylinder. Even if a bit come out, assuming level in reservoirs are high enough, you'll have solid fluid coming out, no air bubbles
Dose fluid supposed to be coming out from the top of the cruise control pressure switch on the master cylender.?
Can you just bleed the MC when you bleed all the lines? Do you have to do it separate?
I am working on a 100% break system replacement.
Do an initial bleed like this separate first.

have 4 ports (4 brake lines)

I had to replace a section of leaky brake line, but I got half way through the job and called it quits because it was too cold out. I didn't realize you are not supposed to let the master cylinder run dry, so all of the fluid leaked out of the cut lines. Tomorrow, I plan on finishing the job, but should I bench bleed the master cylinder in that case and the bleed the brakes?
Before disconnecting anything I put something on the pedal to hold it down a bit, this locks the fluid in the master. Once you do that you can leave stuff open without loosing fluid.
I put new brakes and rotors bleed all the brakes on my f150 and still I have to push the brakes to the floor when I do that the back locks up Angell

Great video, got one comment...you are not supposed to secure the master cylinder by the cylinder body when clamped into the vise...it should be clamped in the vise by the mounting flange so that you don't squish the piston chamber & invalidate the warranty...thanks for the info!
+Steve A You would have to really clamp down on that to ruin it but I still do not do it. What I did is open the vice just enough for it to drop into the there and it rest on the fittings then the ears in the back sit against the vice and it creates the perfect cradle for the master without any clamping. Do you see how perfectly it sits when I show the right side of it.

Always, _ALWAYS bleed the entire hydraulic system after ! .

@@VWNate1 I am a beginner on car maintenance. Been researching the heck out of bench bleeding, replacing MC, bleeding brakes. I have done things before of replacing brake pads, engine/oil change, coolant change, replacing hoses. So if I bleed the mc so there is no air, and then bleed the calipers so 99.99% air is out of the system, that's all there is to it and the system will be good and safe right? I think I am just being extremely cautious with being the brake system.
@@GMoney-B : you can never be too careful with the brakes, you'll still need to bleed all four calipers after installing the bench bled master cylnider .
Bench bleeding saves you a lot of time getting the air out of the brake pipes, _ANY_TIME_ the system has been opened, like to replace one leaky or bound up caliper, the _ENTIRE_SYSTEM_ *MUST* be bled , all four bleeaders .
Start at the one furthest from the M/C, typically yhe Right rear, then bleed each one in order going so the last one bled is the closest to the M/1C /
Buy a quart bottle of new brake fluid and don't open in until you begin the job .
Bleed until you're getting clean bubble / foam free fluid out of each bleeder nipple before you move one .
Only use a 6 pointed BOX END wrench on the bleeder nipples ! .
I like to use clear plastic hose, cheap at any big box hardware store, about 3 feet and a glass bottle to bleed unto .

Forscan bleed? You mean the ABS bleed? That is not the same.

i would keep thos nipples for bleeding for ever hahah! thats bad ass! working at a dealership as well i just use my finger to keep pressure in the hole and plug off the other one with a fitting that has the hole welded shut!
Oh I kept them all right, I have a bleeder kit like this with many adapters made to fit ford master cylinders but I like these too especially the clear tubing. Gets the job done!
you should only ever clamp a master by the bolt flange in a vice you will make the cylinder into an oval
+5 This was just to cradle it not clamp it down watch it again.
You mounted that mc in the wrong location. U suppose to clamp it from the flange
skipped the most important part. why bother with this
