    If your installing an 91 octane tune it’s pretty obvious you have to use 91 octane fuel!!!!

    I have the identical 5.3 in my 2012 Sierra 1500. Been running super chips performance 93 octane tune with all my parameters maxed out. I bought the truck new and have 191,000 miles which are 80 percent highway miles. Never not one time any issues hands down period. I bought the truck new and installed the tune the day after. I have been running this tuner since 2012 so the truck is 6 yrs old with no problems. If you do not have a check engine light then there is no codes to be found. This tuner does read and clear codes as well. I personally know myself these engines do not like bad gas. Super chips doesn’t max out your timing it only advances it in a safe increment. You could run your gas to almost empty and refill at another place like shell or another reputable place with 93 octane and put 2 cans of sea foam in the tank. I hope this helps. As always another great video from my favorite UA-cam channel. Stay blessed

    If it rains a lot or you wash your engine then I can almost bet you have condensation or standing water in your knock sensors. The 5.3l is bad about it. The only way to check is to remove the intake. The knock sensors are shorted and don't react on time. I'm a ASE mechanic of 28 years and seen it many times. If they are wet replace both and wiring harness. Also suggest to put silicone on the rubber cover that protects them to prevent further issues. Hope it solves your problem if you still have it.

    Sometimes it may not be the fuel by any means and I’m sure the super chip conversation cleared some things up, but excess carbon build up on the top of ur pistons can also change compression height and can also cause hot spots within the engine cause pre detonation, but I doubt that’s the case as seeing how well u take care of ur truck, just don’t forget to run some seafoam or Techron through ur truck every so often to clean that engine up 👌🏻 👍🏻

    I have a 12 5.3 with a Hypertech programmer and it completely changed my truck. Throttle response is signicantly improved, shifts are quicker and firmer, and managed to come away with about an additional 1mph running 33's. 146,000 miles and still purrs like a kitten.

    I agree with the boys below. If this is flex fuel tuned, that's your problem. One sure easy way to verify this cheaply and actually see with your own eyes is, buy an obd2 scanner with data live. You can get one for $20 or less on ebay an use the torque app and watch with your smart phone. It's only $3.00 for the full version. You can see exactly what your timing is and isn't advancing to with and without the tune installed. I have the dashpaq in my 15 and I've had 3 other previous trucks and superchips models with never any issue. I garentee, you'll see the problem right away.

    I know this a tad bit late but I am no mechanic just a wrench head enthusiast as yourself, I don’t know how you get your oil changes done but I myself do mine and I use sea foam in the crankcase and Intake manifold to really clean out the engine. Only thing I can think of is there could just be build up in the engine thus going full throttle your engine components don’t have the freedom to move faster than they normally would at low rpm which could be the cause of your problem. They’re being restricted in movement. I could be wrong but either way try out seafoam you’ll be surprised how much white smoke you’ll see from build up we have no idea is in there

  • @timberlind4848
    @timberlind4848 6 років тому +2

    Sometimes was hard to the pinging on video sound. But from experience, i used hypertec max energy for every chevy i had. It worked great on my 4.8L 2008 silverado and a 2007 chevy tahoe 5.3L and now it is on a 2007 silverado with 5.3L and all with same tuner and nothing wrong. Read on some comments where someone said could be an exhaust leak. Well it will be noticable at first start up. Also i see you have a top on your K&N. With a tuner, the air is sucking in more and need all air possible. I usually took my top off. Tons of things you can check too. Plus see if it is actually the motor pinging and not a lose heat shield on anything. But i could be wrong since you say it does not make the sound while in stock mode. So try a couple of things like different programmers or checking the wires. Since a high milage truck maybe mass aiflow sensor cant handle the air coming in. Just a few things to check out on your own before taking a shop and spending mula on shop time for them to tell you nothing wrong with it.

Something you may want to check if your millage is high is your cam sensor it could cause a knock like that especially if your getting to much load for it... It's the tuner, it is over advancing your timing. Dumb question but you do have the 5.3 not the smaller engine right? The small v8 hates tuners , either way your best option is a shop that has a dyno that can do a custom tune exactly for your truck with a laptop. Hopefully your able to return that tuner as it is incompatible with your truck. Good luck and enjoy that beautiful weather as here in p.a we head into our wonderful snow filled winter.

  • @dannyt1705

    If you read instruction manual of that tuner you will see that it asks to unplug ALL non stock electronics . Unplug your after market radio deck , revert back to stock , then try to tune it again. Connect your radio back.That will most likely fix the issue . Good luck man

    You do realize the K&N air filter you have is the cause of your pinging right?? It flows more air than stock and may be loading your MAF with false read if over oiled or too close or far away from stock location. You’re not technically stock as your fuel air mixture is changed. The tuner is looking for stock air flow to modify and is not able to see those parameters. Put the stock air filter back in then add the tuners parameters and allow the tuner to adjust air flow

    • @Keyno77
      @Keyno77 4 роки тому

      Superchips advertise their tunes are compatible with cold air intakes. Plus the MAF and O2 sensors should compensate. What I don't understand is why the knock sensors never compensate on knocking. My systers 5.3 Tahoe was knocking under slight load uphill climb and it went away when I told her to start using premium high octane fuel.

    Send it back and go with Diablo. There’s a guy named Lew that does custom tunes using the data logging with the Diablo tuner.

      Agree, Diablo Lew has a website & does custom tunes preloaded on a new unit. Plus he'll upgrade as you add upgrades.

    Mines been fine dude I had the 91 octane and used 91 never had a problem now if your truck has afm and you didn’t turn afm off when putting on the tune yeah it’s gonna fuck your engine. My Camaro I have now did not like being programmed with afm still on

    Buy Hp tuners and i'll help teach you some things, teaching yourself how to tune it isn't that difficult and it's very rewarding.

      Wish more people were as willing to teach as you are I would kill to have someone teach me about tuning have been doing most of my own mechanic work since my very first vehicle but not having anyone to teach me about tuning and not wanting to destroy my beautiful truck has kept me from messing with it in that department #joysofgrowingupwithnofathertolearnfrom

    What springs do you have on the front of your truck? I've got a 2013 with a 6in but it has spacers (PO installed).

    Is your truck a flex fuel truck? If it is that’s the issue. The virtual sensor for the flex fuel already tunes the engine to maximum timing for the fuel being used. The tuner is just adding a few degrees of timing that’s alread on the truck.

      I appreciate the insight. That might be it.

    • @ITSJB2
      @ITSJB2 6 років тому +3

      This I have to believe is incorrect the only thing that flex fuel really is is being able to mix more then one type of fuel without problems to the engine and although the virtual sensor is more efficient with fuel and air ratio doesn’t mean it’s at its top performance depending on what you are using it for, it’s just a stock tune by the company it’s not the latest and the most updated tune, like with bullydog programmer it has tunes updated for all types of vehicles for the best performance almost every half year so that wouldn’t be the case because there are different tunes for different situations like if you want to have a better tow power without sacrificing a lot of gas there is a tune for that and performance is the same for racing or just for a little more boost a mpgs so this wouldn’t be the case due to tunes being updated frequently even for the latest vehicles, sorry for the long paragraph but I had to feel the need to lay out this information all though I could be wrong but I feel like it’s not and I’m ASE certified in engine performance and engine repair

    • @brianhilligoss
      @brianhilligoss 6 років тому

      ITSJB I’ve seen the before and after timing tables from my flex fuel truck when tuned on hp tuners. On e85 the tuner was only able to add ,5 deg of total advance. Just because your ASE certified doesn’t mean jack shit in the aftermarket tuning world. Go back to changing parts because a computer told you to.

    • @WBOS72
      @WBOS72 6 років тому

      I agree completely! The fuel composition sensor adjusts timing, as well as amount of fuel, as the pump and injectors are high flow.

    • @ITSJB2
      @ITSJB2 6 років тому

      brian hilligoss ok so even tho I studied and worked in Auto Tech for years now and being ASE certified in engine repairs and engine performance doesn’t mean I know anything about tuning? Yeah stfu flex fuel isn’t designed to perform at its best with the best timing adjustments it’s just not maybe depending on the model and year and being stock (assuming your truck) may already be pretty much at its peak but what about modified exhaust and other aftermarket mods to the truck can definitely require it to be tuned like the exhaust if you run straights throws off O2 sensor readings and can cause your engine to burn rich instead and my truck wasn’t the best it can be even with stock everything only getting 15 mpg with a tuned engine I got 19 mpg and 25+ horsepower so tell me again about what you were saying?

    Have you tried unplugging your radio when you tune? Most turners tell u to unplug all non stock features like the radio or els it will mess up the tune.

    Same tuner on same motor if you don't run the right amount of 91 it will do this run it almost empty then put 93 in it and give it 3 or 4 times wide open the sound will go away just the truck not used to a new tune

    Sell the tuner, look into black bear performance. One of, if not the best tuner for GM products. www.blackbearperformance.com/ They have a tuning solution that will work for you, giving you a custom tune for you truck to prevent stuff like this from happening. Also, look into the knock sensors, I believe there were some issues with them on these trucks.
