Surprisingly, there is even an actual merit to 4: carriers can attack rocks to get the interceptors deployed right before a fight, which gives them a noticeable power boost. Yet to see it in the a pro game, tough
Liberator's air attack isnt on the same level of useless as sentry attacks tho. against clumped up units like mutas, their splash damage can be quite ugly
"Protoss don't die" was also part of a story in the comic book series. They have an emergency warp, but with limited range and some vulnerabilities. At least zealots have it, confirmed, so adepts, templars and pilots of all sorts should have something similar, too. Aside from Dragoons and Immortals probably, who wish to die with honor, robots of all sorts, and Archons... who are already dying violently.
according to lore, bios like zealots have emergency warp when they're mortally wounded or on the verge of dying. some of them get to continue service as dragoons("i have returned" dialogue when warped in), immortals, some who only have their consciousness left(for heroic or commendable soldiers), get to live as AI on robotic units (purifier program). probes are robotic units that are expendable though.
Protoss is starting to look really strong again, with MaxPax, Astrea, and NightMare coming up, and herO, Stats, Classic and soon PartinG returning from their military service within the past couple years. Can't wait to see what these guys can manage.
It's almost 2024, and I'm still watching high-level Starcraft 2 matches. What does that say about me? What does that say about Starcraft 2? What does that say about the Nederlander (aka Dutchman) Lowko, who almost certainly ate a stroopwafel or french fries with mayonnaise sometime this week?
I feel like the late game is getting so good lately. Like a year ago or so TvP lategame was just mass carriers/tempest vs mass BCs. But now there is a lot more variety in the unit composition, with constant skirmishes and back and forth. The same can be said for ZvP with Reynor's half-skytoss game recently and TvZ with the move away from Ghostmech. It feels like the meta as a whole is moving away from deathballs, which is very good to see.
I mean, the T composition has not changed at all for years and protoss have gone from carriers only to a few carriers with many tempests and some ground army to defend them. I can't see how much changed? Mass BC was always risky for T because BC kills tempests with jump and yamato, but other than that, BC die to tempests insanely quickly. I feel like more protoss manage their army properly nowadays with oracles tagging and HT zoning, but other than that, the unit comp feels same-ish.
Nerd moment: the Protoss as a race are joined together in the khala (mentally linked, basically every protoss can see, think, and feel what everyone else experiences, but they can keep things private if they want or need to.) When they die, it’s felt by the whole race, and while the individual themselves are gone, their memories live on in the rest The dark templar, however, decided to not join the khala to maintain their individuality and were exiled and hunted down for their beliefs and practices until tassadar met zeratul and brought the 2 back together

They're treated kind of like the Russians by their officers in ww2: their lives dont matter, so throw them all at the enemy, eventually theyll be overrun
Probes are just robots their is nothing living in them unlike a dragoon or immortal. Up until Legacy of the void all High Templar Protoss units where connected though the Khala? their group consciousness so when a Protoss dies they still live on within the Khala. That was never true of the Dark Templar, and in legacy of the void the the High Templar sever themselves from the Khala. I don't know if they also have some kind of emergency warp system.
Byun was trying to let terran easy mode carry him after he saw the micro at the beginning. It almost worked for him, sadly. Should have been a blowout.
This was an amazing dance of units between the most simple and the most advanced. Everything was built and used correctly by the Protoss player and I loved to see it. I might have a new favorite player:Nightmare

Protoss die like anyother living thing. They are turned into dragoons, stalkers,or immortals if they are *criticality* unjured, but not dead. This is how fenix came back in during sc1, but died later on along with tassader and zeratul
Being up two bases, having map control, killing half a dozen cc's, terran not even thinking of going anywhere on the map until 29 MINUTES IN, it's ridiculous that this game was even this close. terran ez mode keeps proving its self.
Protoss having multiple chances of winning the game and not doing it was the thing that made the game close. Average Starcraft fans are so delusional that is not even funny.

(queens, overlords dont count, dropships and queen marches etc do) using a locked unit to morph in a later game is fine offensive static defence also counts. (probe rush etc) Id love to see this at the pro lvl.
As a diamond protoss i have no close to 70% TvP winrate😢. 60% at max in my best. But this is really the most comfortable and understandable for me matchup. Build some stuff, scout, defend, attack. No over expanding economy zerg economy, no canon rush or carriers deathboll. But first of all i have some fun with every game, even in lose strike. That's why im here, not for winning everyone in the world.

nightmare actually kept replenishing his templars, it happens way too often that pro players build 4 or 5 of them, use storms, make them into archons...and then you never see templars again

It's kind of convenient to be powered by batteries, but the last few months have seen the high APM, like a zerg, messing up all accounts To my dismay, I am not a person with such capabilities… Simply, musically speaking, my fingers are short ;)
Any actual biological unit gets warped back to try to save the warrior's life even if it doesn't always end up saving them. They did this because their population isn't that large which is why there are also so many mechanical units/cyborgs in the protoss army

Protoss units die, then become Dragoons, but somehow they forgot to add them in to Starcraft 2, so they are just handing out waiting for a Dragoon to run along. True story, heard it from my SC1 days. Don't ask me why those almost Dragoons, are not Dragoons, and can blink. No one knows. Not even the Protoss.
Only reason why Terran lost was cause Protoss was up 10,000 minerals and 4,000 gas over the Terran and still had to engage carefully or he'd instantly lose his entire army.
Untrue. Nightmare was also trading more efficiently through most (if not all) of the game and was either prepared for or immediately adapted to ByuN's tech swaps. Additionally, the only reason he was up on resources is because he played better. He maintained map control for a very long time, allowing him to expand quickly, and made a strategically sound decision the highest-ranked players almost never do: he went for resources on his opponent's side of the map early, well before they became neighbors. _Why_ top-tier pros don't do that, I cannot fathom. As Lowko said, split-maps often go wrong against Terran, because it's so hard to get any mining done when they're turtling next door. In the recent ESL alone, both Serral and Dark lost maps to Clem because of that.
Nightmare won because he was better and did things mostly at the right time. The only "but" is that he should have closed the game sooner; he had quite a window to do that. In any case, he played quite well.
Protoss units don't die. They just get warped to a farm up state where they have room to run and play with all their friends.
Aren't protoss units in warp fields canonically warped back if they're in a powerfield?
