Great video on your Jaguar XJ40. I'm a new subscriber and I also have a 1991 Jaguar XJ40. I love the smooth ride that these Jaguars have. Look forward to your next video.
Thanks for the shout out! I always like the videos, and the 'collection' generally. Hoping to add an XJ of some kind vaguely soon too :) would you rather have had an x300? Or even xj8? I sort of prefer the xj40, inexplicably.
Was wondering if you'd filmed it before the water hose incident seeing as you didn't mention it to the end. Hope to see Annie again soon hope they both serve you well mate
I have had 3 XJ40's the first a 3.2 Executive then two 3.6 Daimlers, great cars. Now got a X308 Daimler LWB apart from engine still just a XJ40 in disguise. You are slightly wrong about kickdown there is two kickdowns, normal kickdown and then there is sports kickdown lol. I know what you mean about Minder I remember seeing Arthurs XJ40 and just loving it. Treat the XJ right and it will reward you with so much, also people will always admire it as it's such a classic timeless looking car.
I do love a Jag. They have lots of character and they feel special compared to the teutonic Germans. I used to drive a 2011 XJL V6 Diesel for work. It was comfortable in the way it would waft along the road, engage dynamic mode and it would corner as if it was on rails. If you were Conservative with the accelerator pedal on the motorway, high 50's was possible.
It wouldn't be a Jaguar video without a what's broken now... Seriously, they're actually pretty reliable if you get a good one, and there are only good ones left now... You do need to keep an eye on the brakes, these are heavy cars and, with an auto meaning virtually no engine braking, they do eat brake pads. A friend of mine used to go through a set of front pads a year and about 6-7,000 miles. On the police Jags, brake pads were an every service item... From the behaviour you're getting from the transmission, it's likely that issue is caused by connector corrosion at the gearbox. Something that can happen on these is that the seal on the gearbox where the connector plug is can fail and lead to the connector filling with automatic transmission fluid, which also can upset the flow of electrons. The seal used to be a few quid, then it was just a case of cleaning up the connectors and refitting. It would be worth sorting the issue properly by cleaning up the connectors and treating them with an appropriate electrical grease as, like with the relay going faulty, it can, eventually, lead to the transmission ECU failing and requiring to be rebuilt or replaced, which will ground the car for a while...
Got a 1988 Daimler vanden plas, 5-6000 pounds getting it resprayed, worth getting it done.
Can't wait for updates.
