HOW TO PAINT A CARAVAN YOURSELF!!

- In this video, I show you the different methods I used to remove paint from my caravan.
I found that the best method to remove paint was using paint stripping, followed by sanding the entire surface with 120 grit sandpaper.
To remove chemicals and dust, I high-pressure wash the entire caravan.
I also resealed the van by grinding the old sealant, replaced missing rivets, fixed dents and removed old useless screws.
Nearing the end of the prep process, I sanded the entire caravan again by hand with 1000 grit sandpaper and looked for parts that needed more work.
I high pressure hosed the caravan again and then went over it with a degreaser and white cloths.
Before painting, I called the paint manufacturer for advice and practised my technique on a piece of cardboard.
I taped all the windows and any other parts I didn’t want panted.
I used a primer and painted the topcoat twice, 2-12 hours after the primer was applied.
Finally, I un-taped the windows, resealed the windows, installed new window trim.
Make sure to have a protected undercover area while painting to protect your freshly painted caravan.

Thanks for following along! I recommend a top coat of something to protect the paint. I find it’s got a course texture (possibly due to the way I sanded) which means grim stick to it. I have to really scrub it to keep it clean 👍
Well done! What a great and helpful video, really encouraging for others wanting to do the same thing. You asked for anyone to correct you if there was something which wasn't quite right, so I hope this helps for your next van renovation. I'm not meaning to be critical, just helping.
When you were sealing the edges of the van, which are called trims or J rails, unfortunately just cleaning up the visible sealant, then re-sealing the edges isn't the best way. Firstly new sealant cannot adhere to old sealant, so it won't actually seal properly. The new sealant will adhere to the metal that's been cleaned, but the two sealants won't seal to each other. The way to seal these trims properly, is to remove them all from the van, clean all the old sealant from the edges of the van, and from the inside of the trims, then reseal the trims and reinstall them. I noticed you using a wire brush on a drill to remove the sealant, which certainly does the job, but risks scratching the cladding. A better tool to use is a nylon Josco wheel on your drill. (It looks a bit like an anenome). I love this tool as it whips that sealant off really quickly and is actually fun to use. I hope this info helps.

Well Done, your video are fabulous, I noticed you used a cordless spray gun may I ask what ratio did you thin the paint. And what specific type white knight paint you use. Finally you mentioned you were sub tropical, where does that put you. I am near Rocky. Great Job 👍
