I worked in a truck and trl paint repair shop for many years. I found out that painting the lower half first and then the top half after lends itself to an easier time of masking off the first painted area. You can set out your masking paper by tacking it as you unroll the paper. Then come back around and tape the paper to close it up completely. Also if you are stripping I always painted the stripe area first. Again this reduces the amount of tape and mask time and material. Paint your 2nd lower color next, mask and then paint the top color last.
It's ironic that you posted this. I am actually about to go get the camper that was left on my mom's property and the bank repoed and abandoned after my mom and her husband passed. She passed in 2016 and her husband died in 2018. It's just been sitting under a shed for years and my wife and I are going to title it and clean it up. The repaint is a great idea! My wife will insist it be teal color, though. Everything we own is TEAL!!! AHHHHH! LOL
Always nice to see and older trailer being restored and that's great because todays RV's haven't changed much in decades. Save a lot of $$ this way and with the housing shortage it's an affordable way to add living space.
@@DIYGene that’s awesome and it’s a productive use of time. A lot of people waste extra time watching TV when they could be getting a little bit of exercise, fresh air and accomplishing something really valuable.
That is fantastic. This is what my brother did and the paint is holding up really well. I hope you find what you’re looking for. Thanks so much for watching.
Only if you knew, you should have kept your daughter in an RV awhen she turned 18. I am saddened to read how some daughters or sons treat their fathers and mothers.
That looks great Gene! I had one bad experience with a Wagner Power Painter back in the 80's- made a big mess of what I was trying to accomplish- and haven't tried one since. Maybe they deserve another look.
I felt the same way. I had one years ago and it painted like someone clearing their throat. This one however was totally different. I was really surprised at how well it did. I’m going to do a review on it. Thanks so much for watching.
If you look at my channel, I have a review of a generic one, which I highly recommend because it made some improvements which make it easier to break down and clean, and I also have a video on fully breaking down the Wagner, even beyond the normal amount where you take The needle and spring and remove it because paint can build up in there. It’s important to practice and really understand some of the settings to get good results but if you do that you can shoot latex that comes out so nice it looks like it was sprayed from a can.
Those Wagner sprayers have come a long way. That trailer looked really bad when I first say it. I asked my brother if it had been a meth lab before he bought it LOL!
@@DIYGene Lol...it looks great now! Years ago, my wife and I had a mobile home that looked similar. We painted it and it made a world of difference. I love what paint can do!
We actually took a color sample into Lowes and they custom mixed it. My brother wanted to match the colors of his motorhome. But it good to know Lowes can match a color you like. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the video. Was thinking about painting my trailer. Was wondering if you have cleaned it since painting ? And if you did did you use the power washer?
How many gallons did it take to pain the entire RV I'm wanting to paint my class A motorhome I just bought she's a 83 and could use a fresh new look . Especially being I wanna be able to park her long term in a park and I feel like if she looked better that would help
I used 2 gallons on the main color and 1 gallon on the lower color. That allowed 2 coats of each color. After 2 years, it’s still holding up great. Thanks for watching.
We used a gal and a half on the top and not totally a full gallon on the bottom. We did not then the paint and payed it on pretty heavy. I hope that helps. Thanks so much for watching.
You know one of the best parts of this paint job wasn’t doing it myself but spending time with my brother and his family. Even my little Momma, who is now gone helped out where she could. I guess what I’m trying to say is you can’t buy that wonderful experience. Maybe you could find that same joy. I hope you will give it a try. God bless and have a wonderful new year.
No, the paint we used had a primer built in. We just washed it and then hit it with a scotch pad. After 2 years it’s still holding up great. Thanks so much for watching.
I've never had much luck with airless sprayers, but that one worked great. Nice job as always, Gene. What kind of paint was that, enamel? Latex? Paints are a bit different here in the UK. Roy.
It was an oil base enamel from Lowe’s. I was really surprised how well the spray gun worked. I had one years ago and it painted like someone clearing their throat. LOL. Thanks so much for watching.
No, we didn’t prime it We pressure washed it and then hit it with a scotch pad. We did have one spot with bare metal so we sprayed primer on that. It is a year old and holding up great. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

Excellent suggestions. Thanks so sharing.
Stripping, as in removing, or striping, as in placing different colors of tape? I need clarification, please. Thank you.
Judging from the context of the comment, I believe that the word would be "striping".
@@patrickbodine1300I think he’s talking about painting a stripe versus using a decal.
Very cool. I didn’t think it would turn out that well. Great job.

That is so true. My brother has remodeled the inside and basically made an old worthless trailer into a usable one. Thank for watching.

Great job Gene! Those colors pop. Especially, with the black trim.
Thanks Deb, it made a huge difference. And it was fun working with my brother and family. Thanks so much for watching.
Nice job! That sprayer did well, too.
Thanks. The sprayer did even better than I really thought it could. Thanks for watching.
Much respect for helping your brother which, i believe, many do not in this part of the world.
Our parents are gone and I think it’s even more important to stay close. Even when we a several states away. Thanks for watching.
Great tutorial. I love the colors you guys chose.
Thank you. I wasn’t sure how it was going to turn out. LOL. But I was really happy with how it turned out.
Beautiful job nice
@@cynthiaholiday4347, Thank you and I am happy to report it is holding up great. Thanks again for watching.
Looks good! I never had luck with those Wagner sprayers, but this turned out nice!
Me either. But they have come along way and I was actually impressed. Thanks for watching.
Absolutely beautiful! Nailed it again bro as always 👌
Thanks Bro, this was a fun project and really enjoyed working with you.
I love it. I am currently looking for an RV I can fix up and live in on my daughter's property. This is something I could do. Thank you.

Is that an old FEMA camper?
I have one and I am going to paint mine.
Totally Awesome cleaner (Dollar General) is great for cleaning black stains from a camper.
Maybe use aluminum siding paint which is made for this kind situation?
Well, so far and two years later the paint is holding up great. They have even pressure washed it and the paint holds up great. Thanks for watching.
Next step... steampunk trailer!!!
I like that idea! Thanks for watching.
Nice job!! What is the name of the bottom color of the green? Thank you!
I'm not sure. I think they had it matched to the green on there motor home. Thanks for watching.
Looks great 👍 how many gallons did it take to paint that?
We used about a gallon and a half of the cream and a gallon on the green. Thanks for watching.
Good job. What is Your schedule for coming by and doing mine?
LOL. It’s so easy! If I can you can. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the video. Was thinking about painting my trailer. Was wondering if you have cleaned it since painting ? And if you did did you use the power washer?
Yes, my brother has power washed it a few times and it is holding up great. Thanks so much for watching.
How do you paint around the awning? Or does it need to come off?
We masked around it. If you can remove it that would probably be better. But this worked great. Thanks for watching.
What type of black did you use on the trims? Ty
I used a oil based enamal. Here is a link.

what colors did you use
They were a custom mix to match my brother’s motorhome. A Forrest Green and a warm Taupe or putty color. I hope that helps. Thanks for Watching.
Is this camper galvanized aluminum?
I don’t think so. I think it’s just painted aluminum. But after one year it’s holding up great. I hope that helps. Thanks so much for watching.

We used a gal and a half on the top and not totally a full gallon on the bottom. We did not then the paint and payed it on pretty heavy. I hope that helps. Thanks so much for watching.
What kind of paint are you using
Water base or oil? What brand
Thanks
We used Valspar Ani-Rust Armor oil based enamel from Lowes. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
How many gallons of paint does it take to paint a 34 Footer
I would plan on 3 Gallons but we did this one in about 2.5 gallons.

Ya know for about $2.25 you could have bought a spout that snaps on the rim of a can of paint. Makes pouring no mess.
