Listen folks, i used to do electronics so let me give you some tips. -firstly the electronics these days have a computer chip, if it detects a problem somewhere it will either shut itself down or go in standby mode and will keep doing so until you reset the power brick by turning it off at the wall. -unplug everything and wait a good 5 minutes, 5 minutes for a power supply in this case is needed as the xbox power supply holds a large current in it's capacitors, even when unplugged capacitors actually are still supplying voltage and need a while in some cases to deplete that power. Now if this does not work then you may need a new power brick, but please note, the xbox itself tells the power brick whether to turn on or not, so it could be in the xbox itself. -As this guy says, sometimes it's all dust, as the unit sucks in cool air, dust is also sucked into it and can block the heatsinks to the GPU & CPU, if you catch it in time it's all good, if not then you may have cooked them both, generally the solder joints of the GPU & CPU disconnect and not the GPU or CPU are cooked. In most cases with most electronic parts it's a dry solder joint, the problem is where is it, it could take a long time looking at each part and you need like a microscope, if found you can see the hairline crack, sometimes looking at the solder joints and seeing if they are dull is good enough. GPU means Graphics Processing Unit (the video chip in other words) CPU means the Computer Processing Unit ( the chip that controls the whole lot). Hope this just enlightens people who don't know much about electronics.
i don't comment on videos but i got to the point that i was screaming at my xbox and calling gamestop to ask how much their xboxes were and i finally did this exactly and closed my eyes when i touched the on button muttering "please god" and it worked!!! thank u so much!!!!!
I just bought a 360 to play all the old games back when I was a teenager, I was going crazy but I love these old school consoles. YOU HAVE to plug things in order/ first the plug to the 360 then the power cable TO the power brick AND ONLY THEN can you plug into the wall/electric current. If it does not work , repeat until it works. Thank you for this vid ! I was goin crazy and feeling upset that I was playing normally and decided to take the 360 to the bedroom but it wouldnt work jajaj looked up some vids and saw I was not the only one going through this !
So after unplugging my brick from the wall and plugging it back it to find it still having a red light I thought I had to replace my power brick. I tried to reset it like you and it worked! I don't know how and why it works, but thank you.
Worked like a charm for me on the old X-Box original brick. Good fix, and literally every power cable needs to be unplugged.. even the stray cable going from surge to brick has to come out of the surge and also out of the brick. no idea why that'd make a difference, but it did.
i unplugged everything cleaned it out... it had a cloud of dust in it which was probably the problem but i blew it all out then cleaned the fan and plugged it back up in the order that you showed and it works so thank u very much i will subscribe for this and i hope to see more 360 tips from u cause this one worked... again... thank u
The compressed air trick worked instantly. The fan was absolutely bogged with decades of dust buildup. It'd light up yellow as normal, then it'd send power upon bootup then instantly shut off. There must be a processor in the power brick that senses fan RPM & if it doesn't see anything right away it'll shut off to prevent any risk of fire from overheating. You'll need a torx bit screw driver to open the box & 2 different bit sizes of phillips heads to get all the way to the fan and then go wild with the compressed air to clean out all the crud. Also I put some air on the plug for the fan in case if there was any resistance there. Then after it was all put back together it fired up again just like it did day 1
It worked the like button worked thanks man I just bought gta 5 and I was scared that I would not be able to play gta 5 thanks a lot Man U deserve a sub
well i had this problem, long story short. i did everything i could that xbox & youtube suggested, didn't work either. FINALLY what i did instead was to take the cover off the PSU. This enabled me to keep the PSU cool & works perfectly now. Make sure ur PSU in a safe position so nothing falls on it.
I have fixed it guys! I took apart the brick and looked for damage, no damage, the end was already cut off and the wires has solder on them because I use it as a 12 volt power supply, so here is what I did, first with the power off, connect the red and blue wires together, then connect the grey wire to one of the yellow wires, then apply power and watch the LED light, it should blink red then blink yellow then blink red then blink yellow a few times, once it stops flashing, it should stay yellow, then unplug the power brick, wait for the LED to go off once you unplug it, then disconnect all wires and reapply power, the light should be yellow, then plug it into the console and it should turn green, if not, repeat until it works! I do not know what color wires of the connector though so just search google for "Xbox slim power brick connector pinout" and you should find it, I thought it would be broken but it is really an easy fix, just use something like small pieces of broken paper clips to join the connections if you do not have proper test wires or bare wires available
There is a fan inside the power brick and you should listen to see if it's spinning. If you cannot hear it spinning take it apart and lubricate that fan after cleaning it.
Can u help me when I turn on my Xbox it turns off and on and when I look at my brick it stays orange when its plunged into the Xbox and when I turn it on it turns green and back to orange PLZ HELP

Omg thanks so much I can finally play my old halo thanks I was so worried as I have like hundreds of thousands of game points on this and I didn't know what to do as I've had this console my whole life
I know this is late but mine still goes red immidately after i press the start up button, even after i unplugged everything, letting it rest, and plugged them back on. Any ideas?
My xbox 360 decided to shine red two years ago.. did everything this video told after the two years passed it is still the same though a little green light showed up for a split second and then bam red light again. What am i supposed to do with that?
Soo what if you bought a new brick and your Xbox still keeps dinging DINGING to shut off it doesn't like before but what I see it does is it won't eject the disc when it does make the noise? Could it be the Xbox wire behind the faceplate problem
Hello, nice video. Mine is orange light and when i want to turn it on it becomes red light. I changed the capacitor 400v, changed the fuse and nothing. Any other idea ? I have 315vdc at the main capacitor but nothing in the secondary... Thanks.
I know how to fix the Xbox 360 power cord I was 1:48 and then I just unplugged my power cord to my Xbox and the power outlet so the court had no power and it wasn't connected to my Xbox and then out what I did I plugged it back in and put it back into my Xbox and now it's fixed simple as that but thank you for the help
unplugged everything and let it sit for a day, and the Xbox still kept turning off and showing the red light on the adapter about 20mins after turning it on while I was using it, do I need to buy a new one?
That ain't a fix, it's the same thing as unplugging it and plugging it back in, but you will get the light again after a few minutes of playing. A temp fix is to tap the brick hardly against the carpet floor so you don't damage it. It's like shaking the dust off the heat sink. A more permanent fix would be to take it apart and clean it thoroughly.
mine is showing no light at all, it only worked if I plugged it from socket to socket, then it turned off out of nowhere yesterday and hasn't turned on since. with my game stuck in there. is there any solutions so I don't have to spend like $20 and wait like twos weeks for it to come in (I live on a mountain)
problem, my xbox cant find its hard drive when it clearly is supposed to and i cant do this very important update and the update isnt letting me download my profile cuz i dunno and im downloading profile onto another xbox cuz the last one is getting old and since i cant do the update idk why i cant tho i get an error code (eg 1234 - 5678 - 9101 -1121) but i cant seem to find a video with a solution and yes i have tried to go to the xbox site to fix it but still no help and i had all my memory stored on mah profile that i cant download and i mean YEARS of memory so pls can someone help?
2:00 skip all the talking and get right to it

I just bought a 360 to play all the old games back when I was a teenager, I was going crazy but I love these old school consoles. It works like new now!....thanks for the info mate!
Thank you I just blow air with my mouth trough the vents and a lot of dust came out, now it's working and not overheating.
Yessss... Thank you..... Question, the light on the power source is orange(not green) is this ok?
orange means stand by, which means it's ok, but you haven't turned on the xbox yet. when it's on, it's green
J Condors it turns green when on
OMFG!!!!! Thank you sooooo much!!! I got super pissed when it was red and I did your steps and it works!!!! Your a GOD bro, but not the God

Thank you a lot dude that really helped but the bad thing is that while I was doing it got in to my mouth the dirt

I took of all cords from the power supply and now it turned orange when all cables were disconnected, Please help!
That ain't a fix, it's the same thing as unplugging it and plugging it back in, but you will get the light again after a few minutes of playing. A temp fix is to tap the brick hardly against the carpet floor so you don't damage it. It's like shaking the dust off the heat sink.
