From TWFM to Macross to VOTOMS, Bandai just keeps hitting it out of the park with their HG kits. Next in my pipeline is Dunbine. Hope they keep releasing more kits from older animes.
Indeed, the torso with opening cockpit and pilot figure is a P-Bandai exclusive option set, likely to keep the cost of the base kit down. It's an odd decision considering that kits with similar opening cockpits and pilot figures like the various HG Sakura Wars kits and the HG Synduality kits don't need option sets for them, but it is what it is.
No, they knew that everyone who would buy a Scopedog would also want a Scopedog with an opening cockpit, so they did that to milk an extra bit of money from their customers.
To keep the cost low. This one is for grunt collection. If they make the Red Shoulder custom in HG with the cockpit, then this really was their intention.
@@wasdwazd Why wouldn't they just include the cockpit in every release then? That would guarantee extra profit, the way it is right now gives them less profit
Btw the 2007 Bandai release of the scopedog is really really good, I highly recommend it. It's a way bigger model kit and the amount of detail is insane, so if you can get your hands on one don't hesitate!
oh man - I had the old Wave 1/35(?) scale Red Shoulder Scope Dog custom kit a few years ago. Super hyped Bandai is doing Votoms! Try putting it next to the Grimoire from Reconguista in G and the Red Beret Grimoire from Build Divers!
Bandai already did a bunch of 1/20 Votoms kits (slightly bigger than MG RX-78) before in mid 2000s. They even had full sized standing and sitting figure of Chiriko that you assemble. Dunno why everyone forgot these kits existed.
It looks nice. Though, I kinda surprised the P-Bandai didn't come with 'Red Shoulder' Option set. Yes, it's simple to just paint it, but I thought they gonna give it. Can't wait to get one and paint it black for the 'Pailsen Files' version of it...
I doubt bandai isn't going to make a red shoulder / red should custom one day but the red shoulder machines and red should custom have more than just a shoulder in a diffrent color
@@Cagliostro81 I do hope so. I'm not gonna expect it will be a regular release. But hey, if it do happen (Which is doubtful) it's better. What I kinda wondered is, they didn't announce it right away, eventhough it looks like the obvious choice for upgrade parts.
@@user-yz1pu4to6g I know, but the first upgrade part has shoulder missile pod and the Custom Heavy Machine Gun. It's already close enough to make full Red-Shoulder Custom, so I wonder why not give a red shoulder while they at it? Though, I prefer they release a full Red-Shoulder Custom as entire machine than just an upgrade part, even if it will be a P-Bandai.
+finally a GOOD votoms kit - p-bandai for an open cockpit version that is a partsformer - the accessory pack is p-bandai One step forward, two steps back.
It is one of my favorite mech designs ever and from one of the best mecha anime ever made, the first part is a bit slower and you can def feel its age but once it gets going IT GETS GOING.
To be honest, I am glad there is no opening cockpit because it lowers the cost and to be fair, you aren't going to pose or display it opened most of the time anyway. Yeah, the Synduality Noir and Sakura Wars kits have actual opening cockpits but keep in mind that those cost way more. The only con really is that it only has the machine gun as the bazooka is a P-Bandai exclusive but oh well.
I hope this gets enough love that the update more of they older kits! Diving Beetle and Berserga were two of my favs! And *of course* they would make 'functioning cockpit' the PB release! Already sold out, too! >_> (similarly.. Heavy Gear needs to come back! And give us some kits this size! Striders would be massive. ^_^ )
@@Cagliostro81 More so the video games. But I'd love the minis again, *if* the were the original scale. And last I saw, they did away with the North Vs South hemisphere wars?
Nice to see some new Votoms kits, I remember seeing one of the 1/20 scale Votoms kits in a shop once. It was the Brutishdog if I remember correctly (the red one with the gatling arm) Hopefully the HG Red Shoulder Custom will be coming soon.
I actually just started watching this show earlier this week. I was considering getting a kit but all the older ones are over 100 usd so I'm probably going to get this one.
Kinda unfortunate that Bandai didn't make the lefty option possible for this HG Scopedog. It's just left trigger hand and right open hand, not that hard to do.
pretty peeved about the two additional p-bandai add-ons for it, all the hobby stores that stock gunpla in my country mark their stock up by a pretty hefty margin and it'll make getting a scopedog with everything rather expensive.
Man, my local hobby store can only import this and the Idolm@ster collab kits in limited amount. Hope to see them reprinted soon. Usually takes a few months though.
the "thick nub mark" on the bandai kits is like the smallest of the nub marks on moderoid kits, no joke, or the ones from kotobukiya or aoshima, bandai is always pushing forward the technology of model kits
The 1/20 Bandai Scope Dog from a few years back are still the best releases...if you can find them for a decent price anymore. =P Though for HG scale this looks very nice and I might have to pick it up. Shame they held off on the cockpit and gear.
Yeesh, the whole point of a design like this or Patlabor is that you should be able to see the comparative scale of the pilot and mecha. Ah well, I suppose just knowing is fine, but when Bandai grades are used the inevitable comparison to gunpla will always be made, confusing people as to the scale. I never liked Bandai using lavender and purple plastic to stand in for grey, but because it’s an old school color scheme, it’s kind of nostalgic.
I wish so many cool things weren't limited to P-Bandai :( It wouldn't be so bad if I could actually buy it, but because it doesn't exist in Canada I'm forced to pay scalper prices RIP XD Edit: Also, I have been enjoying your use of a Space Marine in the size comparison. I think that it is a good idea and I hope you keep using it moving forward :)
I pre-order this months ago from HLJ on the day the order opened but I never got it. Seems to be happening more and more often with HLJ. I’ve been a customer for decades. I don’t understand why it’s gotten so bad. My P Bandai orders for the options are both secure but I can’t get the base kit. 😢
not every mecha is meant to be posed like some obari mecha like Dangaioh XD, that's the main problem most people have with revoltech yamaguchi figures, all of them look like Dangaioh with the obari style pose
i think the shoulder joints should've taken a page out of the g-frame and master grade 2.0 kits, would have been 20x more sturdy. also the trigger finger hands need to make a comeback, makes me cringe when the trigger isn't covered
It's funny that just yesterday i found a gundam comic where big zam were destroyed by a zaku with armored trooper spec and then this video dropped today.
Man those shoulders are really bad. It's quite a shame. I wonder if some tightening would keep them from popping off, or if it's just a faulty design??
It's only 2500 yen, the other kits from wave that have those cost more than 6000 yen and are the same size, most people won't use those, so why bother adding those? this HG is a solid kit and a good version, the actic gear figures broke like a bag of chips, they weren't that great, most people hate them and you can find them for less than 2000 yen on japanese sites
what. a. beauty.
Scopedogs are, imo, one of the best (if not the best) mecha designs ever
