I hope that Herbie Hancock continues to play with whomever he likes. It is admirable and natural for musicians to share with and learn from one another, and to educate and entertain us, jazz musicians in particular.
Right! I came for Joni. Liked the first piece and stayed with it. Enjoyed Joni very much (I didn't know she could sing jazz.) Really liked the last piece, too. Never heard anything like that! Will look for more Herbie.
They sent an email out to the Herbie Hancock fan club in March of 2008 that if you were one of the first 200 people to respond to their emails you could have a chance to go with a guest. I responded almost immediately and if I remember correctly I had to go through several rounds of emails before I was ever put on the list. It was one of those things that seemed too good to be true as they claimed it was free. I was skeptical the entire time as I had to send them all my info. I kept getting emails that said, "You are one step closer..." Turns out I got to go. We had to meet some busses at a macy's parking garage in century city. I still thought I was about to get scammed at this point. We were bussed to a sound stage on the century city lot. We had no idea that we were going to get to see Joni Mitchell either. I sat about 8 rows from the stage in the center. It was unfathomable and I didn't have to pay a dime. It was the best show I have ever seen.

@@quietmind7476 Joni, Brandi and the others had such an amazing experience that they stayed up all night. Joni decided to do a concert. June 10th @ The Gorge Amphitheatre. It sold out in minutes but hopefully there will be tickets sold to livestream it. Or at least someone will post to youtube....
Sorry, but the director needs professional help. You have Joni Mitchell and Herbie Hancock on one stage, but you have to switch cameras every five seconds to demonstrate how many cameras you have.
Herbie is such a mystery. Insanely talented beyond belief. Made frequent awful musical choices. Imagine him playing with Larry Grenadier and Tyshawn Sorey or whoever. Actual jazz musicians, and not playing sell out stuff like this first tune
Are you kidding Herbie is on the mount Rushmore of Jazz. Listen to 1990 Hancock, Metheny, Holland and DeJohnett. Joni on Shadow and lights with Jaco, Pat Metheny, Michael Brecker, Don Alias get a clue

Herbie Hancock on piano
Lionel Loueke on guitar
Marcus Miller on bass
Vinnie Colaiuta on drums
-> Bob Sheppard on soprano saxophone
Joni Mitchell, on vocals, add Bob Sheppard also on tenor sax too
Joni and Herbie! A match made in heaven... so beautiful....!
This is it! Can you hear the miles Davis coming out in this wow!! Love you Herbie!!
This is too LARGE!! Vinnie Colaiuta, and Joni Mitchell. Good Heaven's. Thank you!!
Have you seen her live dvd Refuge of the Roads? He was the drummer on that tour. Check it out! She only picked the best
Thanks for posting. Always wondered why Herbie won the Grammy for this collaboration. Now I know why.
The whole performance is wonderful. If you came just for Joni, start at 9:34, but then stay and play it from start to finish.

Fantastic!!❤
Can't wait to see you sir here in the queen city
Bob Sheppard- tenor sax sounds great here, w/ Herbie & Vinnie.Lionel Loueke on guitar.
That's what I'm talking about!!!
Thank you!
Great jazz pianist
Fabuloso!
I was there. It was amazing. Creepiest of emails that got me there but I went nonetheless.
What did the e mail say?
I’m also intrigued

Also, I don't see it in this video but he opened with Actual Proof, he walked out of the back with his keytar.
Joni 9:50 💜
They should have done an lp together. Joni ended her career as a premium jazz singer.

Very Seriously Over Produced
I have one of his albums.
how does a video director like this "overplayer" get work?!?!
Marcus Miller al contrabbasso??????? Senza Parole
who is the sax player ?
la session man bob sheppard
Non merci TROP REPETITIF
Hancock don't need a "hip hop turntablist" to improve the tune. What a mess!!!!

I mean, ffs, the last thing too. He’s so much better than this

paul reid I’ve probably listened to more Herbie than you have. You completely missed the point of my post
@@tehwinnerz5006 the point being what; if you don't like it, it's awful? btw, the first tune is STILL a jazz standard.
@@paulreid3273 In "Shadows and Light" live record was Lyle Mays not Herbie :)
Better to go out on top. Than to slip down the mountain. .. unimpressed. Sad. .👎
