On Ocean Avenue in the town of Amityville, New York, there is a house where some events happened in the early 1970s which caused many people to believe this house is haunted. There are many movies and documentaries which tell the stories of what happened at this house. But this video serves as a guide of tips for actually going to Amityville and seeing the house.

I visited the house in July and walked from Amityville Station, took about 20 minutes to get there. Got some great pics but felt a little awkward standing out front but I'm from Sydney Australia so knew I wouldn't get another chance anytime soon. Spent only 5 minutes there and to be honest I didn't get any bad or evil vibes from the house lol. It's actually a really gorgeous house and street.
Beautiful big wide street exceptionally clean and private summer club at very end on water. Beauty
Yes the house is very big. In the 70s I imagine it was considered a very big deal.
You were only there 5 min tho lol
Этот дом давно перестроен. От старого остался только вид. Его новый возвели как старый. Я думаю намеренно. Они лишь делают вид что им мешают люди которые приехали посмотреть на дом. Этот дом комерчесский проек не более. Я разочарована.
Thanks! I just visited NY and had a few hours in Amityville, I followed the hints and tips and thanks! I loved the visit and I found all locals spoke to me saying good morning ect, to see if I was a tourist, the house was amazing and I was not disappointed at all so thank you
You're very welcome! I'm so glad my video was able to help you.
It's funny when people say they know it's not haunted. People who have never lived there. The Lutz family left everything behind and never went back losing all the money they put into the place. Why would any family do that if something wasn't seriously wrong there?
The way I see it: nobody knows the truth about that house for sure!
I agree w/ u !! i lived in a haunted house in Md!!
But in one of the videos in infograpics they said another family was lived upto decades after that incidents and still lives happily.
@Jim GroveThere are things in the world that are unexplainable atleast we have to aware not to intervene one of them.
How the f#ck do you know they left everything there? Because they said so??GULLABLE! The Amityville Horror is a complete hoax... and that's a fact. Grow up!
I went with a group of friends when I was 21 to see it. This was back in 1995. I took some neat photos of the house. It was a cloudy day so it definitely had an ominous feeling. Some locals drove by us and were heckling. The general consensus was that the town thought it was a big hoax.
Sounds like you had a memorable time!
I live near by and I do not think it's a hoax. I think the Lutz' were genuinely scared. Not to say there were spirits. Just that they got freaked out.
@@mpacino1224 I was born in amityville and I do not believe it’s haunted at all. The tourists ruin the street because they pull up grass from the lawns. Something bad happened in that house but that’s it. A mass murder
@@riordanparata4339 I tend to agree. A lot of people think the Lutzes were in it for the money, fame from the start.
@@TanjiTuesday Following owners never experienced anything spooky that made them flee or sell the house anyway. 🤷♂
If I win the lottery, I will buy the house and turn it into a bed and breakfast
Then I’ll be your first guest!
Thats a brilliant idea, I would put the 1/4 circle windows in too.
They wouldnt sell it to you. The town would fight against bringing that type of attention.
Chris Dragnet Then Dont tell anybody and once they notice and try to stop you keeping taking to court for your right to keep doing it.
Edward Conboy I have said the same thing!! A bed and breakfast and a ghost tour type of thing and do big parties on Halloween night!
That Amityville house is actually quite a nice house.
Indeed it is!
Its beautiful inside.
Lol why don't you guys go stay in it for a couple of nights then come back and tell us all about it...
Linda Harper you couldn’t pay me enough to stay there
@@wealthandluxuryvideos I would if it was an Airbnb.
I have always found it interesting how on websites like google street view, they blur out the home. It definitely seems like the town does not want to become an attraction for tourists!
On Bing Maps, it is not blurred out.
Too late for not becoming an attraction for tourists! I do sympathize with the homeowners and their neighbors, though. That would be a serious pain in the neck.
It is a lovely house. I can understand the owners and residents wanting the past laid to rest. Unfortunately this home will always be sold, with its history behind it, as it is so infamous. At least it still remains and is loved and maintained well.
I agree.
I live around the block and everyone that lives in my neighborhood hates driving passed it because no one knows how to drive passed it
With the two signs that contradict each other, that makes perfect sense!
Finally a video that provides useful and interesting information.
Thanks so much, G Brown! I'm very glad you like it. I sure hope it helps if you ever go there.
By the way, I recently made another video about the Amityville Horror house, and it's scheduled to go public on October 6th (though there's a slim chance something could make me want to change the date before then). It's very different than this video, but I'd love to hear what you think of it when it's posted.
Honestly, it's just like any other house inside of it. I have been in it back in 2006. A friend of mine, Brad knew the owners. I didn't feel anything "off" or strange. It was actually pretty quiet. When you walk in, there's the steps in front of you. To the right is a dining room and left, a living room. Kitchen is behind steps joint to the dining room. We sat in the kitchen at a small bar to talk about fishing. I know ppl don't want to hear this, but you're not going to find any ghosts here. Not in the day anyway. We also went around back through the backdoor, where a few lose patio chairs were. It's peaceful there at the canal. A small island is across from it, I could see.
It all is what it is... the owner told me there was no ghosts, laughing and making fun of it.
You're so lucky that you got to go inside! I'd love to if I were invited.
who was the jackass that changed those iconic upper windows ? never should have been allowed
I agree like who randomly has hatred for certain shaped windows? So random
I love the house from an architectural viewpoint. All those Dutch Colonial houses are beautiful. The windows, rooves, architraves, all of those super features look wonderful. I would love to own a house like that.
I agree!
When you try to view the house in streetview, it's actually blurred out.....
Interesting. I did not know that.
@@Joelikesmoviesnstuff well luckily I live just about 20-30 minutes away from it 😀
@@i_likefrenchfries Cool!
I noticed that with google maps.
Yes, many house around 112 Ocean Ave are blurred.
We visited the house in June 1985 and it still had the original sinister looking fan windows at the top level.
At the time the house was painted a lighter color and a Monte Carlo with NASCAR pace car paint scheme sat in the driveway
Wow! That's very interesting. Thanks for sharing... Also, please watch this other video I made about visiting the Amityville Horror house" ua-cam.com/video/FoUUe4X-xac/v-deo.html
This is the kind of atmosphere I ran into when I did a small documentary on Ed Gein in Plainsfield, WI. The people were none too friendly and not very open to horror fans looking to peer into the dreaded past. I was kicked out of the cemetery for filming where Gein's grave supposedly was (It's unmarked, I believe). I did manage to find where the Gein house supposedly was before it was burned down.
Interesting! Thanks for sharing.
I spent several days in the Plainsville area. One weekend a co-worker and I drove out to where the Gein house stood. It was in the middle of the summer and was at least in the 90s that day. After walking past the gate I stopped. I could feel a cold wind coming out of the woods. By the time I got back to the rental car, everything was OK. I was the only one that could feel that chill.
I was just there. I pulled in in the driveway. And I touched the fence.
Did you see this video before going there?
No, I saw it after.
Okay. I was hoping to read that this video was helpful for people who went there, but I obviously can’t blame you for not happening to come across this video before your visit. I hope you enjoyed your visit there and enjoyed this video anyway. Thanks for watching and commenting.
MrTommy516 oil
MrTommy516 Ha, ha, did you feel the ghostly vibes of the place? 😂
Why would you even think of wanting to visit this house - which, no doubt, has been architecturally altered inside since those families lived there - where 6 people died? Leave the existing residents alone, to live there peacefully without ghoulish ghost hunters invading their privacy.
I love the look of this house and the surrounding houses from an architectural viewpoint. They are well-built houses, built to last for decades. Their features are nothing short of wonderful, from the arched windows, the architraves, the porches, the gambrel rooves. The Dutch Colonial style is beautiful and in England, we have very few houses resembling this style. When I see these kind of houses on tv, I am immediately drawn to their beauty.
Unfortunately 112 Ocean Avenue is famous for all the wrong reasons. I bought the book and saw the film. I was 12 when the book came out and was scared stiff reading it! 😂. However, fast forward down the years and looking through the history of the house, the DeFeo family, the Lutz family, the story has more clarity now. The fact that it turned out to be a hoax is no great surprise at all. I feel the Lutz family may have had some odd happenings inside their house, but if you dabble in the occult, your mind is going to be open and altered to that way of thinking. It is as though by buying a house in which the occupants had been murdered, you are setting yourself up for bad things to happen to you. Years later and there have been other occupants who have had no dealings with the paranormal and yet nothing odd or weird has happened to them.
Some people do subconsciously invite spirits into their world, I agree. Often these things happen without any form of ‘calling them up’. I myself have seen the ghost of a little boy in a croft house in Scotland, many years ago. I wasn’t aware that the house was haunted, I wasn’t actively looking for ghosts or spirits, I wasn’t sure I actually believed in them at that point either. 🤔 I did try and find a rational explanation for my ghost, but couldn’t and to this day still have not been able to shed any light on it. I do believe though that if you are actively dabbling in the occult, it can alter your mind, your perception of what is rational. Maybe this is what happened to the Lutz family?
Honestly, I say: ANYONE who moves into that house should be aware - and accept that - horror fans are going to want to look at the outside.
Great video with insightful narration. Was there last month. The No Parking/No Standing signs suck. We still stopped and got a few picks from the car. And yes it seems that this town does not want to be remembered by the haunting.
However I'm more interested in the mysteries surrounding the murders of the Defeo family.
I grew up the next town over and would love to live anywhere on that street. Tourists and all.
Yeah?
This is good information! I'm visiting amityville in March and needed to know some things!
Awesome! Have a great time, I hope this video helps!
I haven't read any comments about the front upper windows being redone. The previous windows really made the house look scary,
I would say the previous look made the house look more unique.
@@Joelikesmoviesnstuff I'd have kept it there but I guess they just want to move on and not let it be considered as The Amityville Horror house.
I was wondering if they considered it creepy when they moved in. I wonder if I would think it were creepy had it not have the legacy of has.
I never spoke to anyone who has lived in the house. But I've spoke to a few people who live in the town, and none of them really believe the house is haunted.
The demons blew the windows out!...so they just replaced them with regular ones.
I live across from a haunted house built in 1852. I heard reports of seeing apparitions in the early morning.
Interesting. How long ago were they seen?
I drove down to see the Amityville House. A local policeman pulled me over and said, Get out. GET OUT!!!!
The cop told you to get out of your car?
The only creatures haunting that house are the living ...

i feel that there was some activity at some point, and then with all the fuss about it some likely drawn to it because of the fear .. but do i think the De Feo family is wandering around haunting it, no. May be some residual but is so its not heavy anymore.
LOL... Correct!
was just there, the people who live there now put bright childish halloween decorations in the front and kinda ruined the whole creepiness to be honest. but it was still a scary experience knowing a family was betrayed and murdered in that house.
Really? I'd love to see the house with Halloween decorations. Thanks!

I visited the house with a friend of mine in 2005 when they new movie came out.. We viewed the house from the back looking over the little canal.. The house actually looked very pleasant and non mennacing sitting next to other homes nearby.. Totally unlike the the haunted mansion in a desolate countryside that the movie tried to descript..
You're talking about the 2005 movie?
@@Joelikesmoviesnstuff Yes, when the new movie in 2005 came out everybody became intrigued with Amityville horror again!
@@QueensNativeNYC It definitely brought some new interest in the Amityville Horror story, yes.
The towns Historical society should have prevented them from changing the upper iconic windows. It wont change onlookers, even 10050 Cielo Dr in LA, the Mansion murder house, changed numbers and was completed demolished, and a new massive ugly mansion was built total unlike the original, yet people still seek it out regardless.
This is a very helpful video to pinpoint where the house is, and where to park.I wouldn't mind walking at all to check the house out. I'm a classic horror movie fanatic.
Especially when the movie is based on true stories.

@@1942PANTHERV I personally would not want to invade the resident's privacy, I'd just want to see as much as I legally can. The residents must have known when buying the house that people will want to look at the outside. But once they go inside, their privacy should be respected.
Is there anyway to go inside the house maybe contacting the owners???
You should NOT ring the bell... I suppose you could try writing them a snail mail letter, asking if there's any way you could ever go inside, and leaving them your contact information. But if they never reply, then you need to respect that.
The amityville murders movie(which is my favorite)was shot at the house..
None of the movies were really filmed at that house.

Are there any pictures published of what kind of furniture the DeFeos kept inside there?

Thanks for the tips. However I I already drove by it in 1986 with my mom.
I'm glad you got to see it in 1986... How much does it seem like the house and street has changed since then?
I have a idea involving the LIRR& will have to figure it out one rest of the way depending how far it is from the closest LIRR station.
The LIRR has a stop in Amityville. I believe it takes about 20 minutes to walk from the train station to the house. If you consider that too far to walk, you can take a cab.
I mean the Street looks really nice, it looks so nice that you would feel ok letting your children trick or treat on Halloween being said that I wonder do trick or treaters come to this house on Halloween???
No idea. If I were trick or treating on that street, I'd sure want to go to the house!
I believe there was a bar in that shopping center that Ronny drank at before going home and killing his family.
Was it that shopping center? I didn't know that! Thanks for sharing!
@@Joelikesmoviesnstuff yeah, I remember that being on the local news at the time.
Interesting. Good to know. If I visit Amityville again, I'll keep this mind when I see the shopping center. Thanks.
Since Ronnie died, I wonder if he will be buried with his family?
I think Alot of these rules are because of the house in my opinion. Do you know if any original furniture, ect. still exists and where someone could buy it?
George & Kathy Lutz bought the house 13 months after the murders in Dec 1975 for $ 80,000, for $ 400 more they also elected to buy all the furniture. They escaped the house 28 days later after being spooked, and this was portrayed in the original movie in 1979. The Lutz later divorced & passed away over 10 yrs ago, but their kids may know what happened to the furniture. I assume they left it all in the house given the way they moved out suddenly. Anything that was in the house at the time of the murders would likely have morbid collectors value today, just like the Manson Murder house, where Trent Razor of NIN, the last to rent that infamous house in LA on 10050 Cielo Drive, was smart enough to remove & save the original front door; before the new moronic owner tore it down & built a ugly monstrosity of a mansion, that is now currently for sale. They had the address changed to 10066 to fool people into not spying but sightseers still make the trip even today 50 yrs later.
It’s crazy how a family lives in the amityville house 2020- today

How far is the house from Manhattan? My cousin lives in Manhattan and I want to go see the house when I go to visit him soon ....
hi Tim. Well, in terms of distance, it's about 40 miles from Manhattan. But I think you meant: How long will it take by car from Manhattan? That's really a question of how much traffic you get caught in. If you have absolutely zero traffic (which doesn't happen in NY), it'd only be an hour. If you have light traffic, it should be maybe an hour and 45 minutes. If you have a traffic nightmare, then it's anybody's guess... As an alternative to driving, you might want to consider taking the Long Island Railroad. Check this site for schedules and ticket prices: www.mta.info/lirr
Tim Walley I took a train with my friends from Manhattan back in 95. Was pretty easy to get to. I think we had to take a cab from the station to the house.

The address went from 112 Ocean Ave to 108 Ocean Ave (not 110).
Hi Kay. You're correct. But I didn't say 110 was the address of the house, I said it was the address to type into your GPS. That's what worked with my GPS.
I would like to know if the people that live in the house ever watch the movie the Amityville horror‘s right in their own home
Good question! If I knew them personally and they invited me to come in their house and watch those movies, I would love to!
That shopping center is where the bar Ronald used to hang out in was.

Amityville is not in Nassau County, it is in Suffolk County, Village of Babylon.
@Steven Rivers 😅 I was born at Brunswick General Hospital just north of there in 1957. Everybody in my family said I was the Amityville Horror!!! My First Cousin Bobby played softball with Ronnie D. Heavy drug use.
It's RIGHT at the border. But technically, you are correct. Thank you.
I feel bad for the current owners. They must never get any privacy.
Depends on your definition of privacy - the general public is not allowed to step on their property, or look in their window, etc. I might compare their situation to that of a house with the best Christmas decorations in town (that everyone wants to stop stop and see, people drive to come see, etc). I'm 99.999% sure that the current owners were well aware of the house's history when they purchased it.
By the way, please also watch this video which I made more recently about trying to contact the spirits of the Amityville house: ua-cam.com/video/FoUUe4X-xac/v-deo.html

You could have parked a few blocks away and walked over. But I hope you enjoyed it... How long was your trip from Connecticut to Amityville?
Joe likes movies n stuff I wish I would have done that. When I was on the street where you see the water, a lady yelled at me. Lol I feel like it was about an hour and a half. We went to so many places in Boston and Connecticut it’s hard to remember where we left from. But the ride back was a bitch with the traffic it took way longer!
I'm not sure which part of Connecticut you were in. But I believe there are ferries you can take from Connecticut to Long Island (and back). And you can bring your car in these ferries... That could have been a way to avoid going through the traffic of New York City.
Angelina, yeah, I just did a search. Here's the site for those ferries - if you're curious 88844ferry.com/
We went to Mystic, but I think we left from Shelton. (Where my family lives). I could see NYC from a distance. We did do NYC last year, not for me. Lol It’s just too much city. You know I believe that the house is haunted BY DEMONIC SPIRITS there's know way I would spend one night in that house because 6,people were murdered in cold blood. I don't see how anyone could call it their dream home. I believe what george and kathy lutz, said, about the house being haunted because they passed every lie detector test they were given and they said it was true until the day they died. The main reason I believe them is the BIBLE SPEAKS OF DEMONIC SPIRITS AND UNCLEAN SPIRITS AND DEMONS AND DEVIL'S THAT'S WHY I BELIEVE IT HAPPENED TO THE LUTZ'S. I wonder why the windows in the addict in this house are different from the ones in the movies. They are square here. but more curved shaped in the movies.

They changed out the windows and the original address so it would be harder for people to find the house.
o ok tHANKYOU. Shame I thought it made the house look like it had eyes.

I heard they removed to 2 iconic windows on the 2nd floor ,the ones that made it look like eyes. Guess i was wrong ?
What shape are eyes? What is the shape of the windows that are currently on the house now? Jesus.

So Now There Is One Very Important Question That I’ve Always Wondered About And That’s What If George And Kathy Lutz Were Actually Still Alive To This Very Day And Would They Have Made Any Sort Of Appearances For The Press In Amityville To Explain All Of Those “Alleged” Hauntings And Horrors That Supposedly Occurred On 112 Ocean Avenue From December Of 1975 To January Of 1976 I Wonder And Although They’ve Long Since Passed Back In The Mid To Late 2000’s I’m Still Very Strongly Certain That Everything That They’ve Literally And Have Deliberately Explained Was All Entirely False And Was Both Fabricated As A Complete And Major Hoax And Concocted For A Major Money Scheme Of Sorts Just To Escape The Houses Prior And Tragic History To Be Exact And What Does The Current Owner Of The Amityville Horror House Think Of Their Alleged Claims As Of Today Right Now I Wonder ????

Whatever is a murder, ghost, or both of the house in my Christian beliefs, I pray the strength of Jesus bless it despite its dark reputation as melted away from sin of Satan's doing amen.
I will not comment on that.
I DON'T KNOW WHY ANYBODY WOULD BUY THIS HOUSE. I SAW IT WAS LISTED AT $220,000. I COULDN'T SLEEP, OR BE ALONE IN THAT HOUSE.
hi Kris. Personally, I wouldn't mind living in that house!
@@Joelikesmoviesnstuff really? It is a beautiful house. Big enough for me and a family. But, could you really sleep at night in that house after the whole country saw what Mr. Defeo did to his family in that house.
@@Joelikesmoviesnstuff I like movies too. I'm FACINATED by THE AMITYVILLE HOUSE. My therapist studied Ronald Defeo and what he said at trial in 1975.
@@JoelikesmoviesnstuffI believe that something was in that house that night in November 1974.
@@krisone5253 wonder how they could blame a person for what they did even if it was the paranormal who drove him nuts,.that kinda crap ruins one after its been subjected to it,.
thanks for this really useful video,i'm hoping to visit n.y next year..and this will be on my place to visit....

The Lutz family at the very least may have just freaked themselves out. I don't think they set out to create a fake story. Why leave all their stuff behind then? Just sell the house like normal people and leave. They lost all their money. I grew up in a very creepy house that the neighbors said was haunted. I definitely got freaked out and felt things. Was it real? Probably not. Was it still scary? YES.
Interesting.
I agree. It would have been a huge gamble to buy a house and then hope to make $ off a story. The Lutzes didn't make a ton of $ off the book/movie. I think the book and movie were highly embellished, but I think THEY believe they were haunted. Maybe it was negative energy, fear, anxiety, etc. that scared them.
I would like to see the bar Defeo was at...
In the movie? I'm not even sure if that was based on any one real bar in particular.
13 Black Cats It was shut down, no relation to the killings
13 Black Cats was really the name of the bar?
Its actually 112 ocean Ave address when the muders occurred now the address is 114 ocean Ave scence the murders not 110 like he said
Yes, the house has had two different addresses. And 110 works for a GPS (at least it did for mine). I never said that was the address of the house, I said it is what you should type into your GPS.
My town isn't safe 🤦🏼♂️ smfh we always get tourists who always want to cross the fence
Do you live in Amityville?

Thanks so much, Owens. I’m happy to have you as a subscriber. Joe
Why wouldn't the local residents not want tourists to come? It's obvious that this town can use money and tourism brings money.
Honestly, I thought it was a pretty wealthy town. I don't think the residents felt desperate for more money. I'm guessing they just prefer their street to be quiet. However, as long as we fans follow the rules by not stepping on property or parking where we're not allowed to park, then we can still see the house legally.
@Steven Rivers I believe you.
You left out the bar where Butch ran to
This video was focused on the house.
@Steven Rivers Interesting! Thank you.
I found it very helpful! Thanks for posting! Kim Runyan
I’m glad you found the video helpful. Thanks for commenting and letting me know.
Sound like to me they try to keep people away from the house.
Yes.
Where does Jeremiah Ketcham live?
That's a fictional character.
I've heard the address was changed and in other stories the house was actually moved.
You heard the house was moved?
sooooo just park at the impound and save yourself the worry

Thanks. Please check out this new video I made about contacting the spirits of the Amityville Horror House: ua-cam.com/video/FoUUe4X-xac/v-deo.html
