Celtic tunes on a Celtic mandolin

- Ian Stephenson plays an NK Forster Celtic F mandolin. This mandolin combines the classic "Celtic" mandolin shape with the soundboard arching and thicknessing you'd normally associate with an American mandolin.
Listen to the whole tune - and enjoy the music.

I can picture this being played at a local pub in Sligo while enjoying a good pint
This is my favourite instalment, and I love the style of music. I got a mandolin yesterday, I want to eventually be able to do this.
Don't stop playing! It's hard at first and it may seem like you're not making progress but I promise if you keep playing you will. Happy playing!
Same here!
Just got mine yesterday too, though I have a few years of uke experience. Anyways how’s it going now?
Masterful playing. Great sounding instrument.
Beautiful
So beautiful!
gorgeous
this mandolin sound beautiful, and you play really great !
That's a beautiful mandolin, and great great playing.
Well played, and that big body gives it so much resonance.
ta
awesome
Wow. That was awesome.
Glad you liked it.
Thats so cool man, it sounds absolutely wonderful!
Ta, I hope to have another video made this year - of my Celtic "O" mandolin. It'll be nice to compare the two.
very enjoyable video
Some nice mandolin. Thanks !
Is there an instrument this man doesn't play?! Class!
Very fine thank you.
You're welcome.
Hi, do you tabs for this please?
Wow
Celtics are my fav
Very, very beautiful. Well done. Like 684. Subscribed.
Lovely instrument and great playing. Could you tell what the nut width is please? It looks wider than blue grass style A or F type. That appeals to the guitar player in me.
❤
My feet won't stop tapping!
Fantastic. The quality of playing is superb, and I wish I was that talented. I know the tune was The Frost Is All Over
Ta, I didn't know that. Where is the tune from?
Sadly I don't know more than that. I do, however, know it's Celtic in origin, and the lyrics revolve around a woman who married a soldier. The rest of the tune played here is a mystery to me.
I am very familiar with the common jig "Frost is all Over" - this is not it but may be an alternative version - if so I would love to get confirmation or another name for this tune. A wonderful tune beautifully played. Many thanks
@@tradbantradban681 "You can call me Big Al", I think it was written by Ian, recorded by Kan on the track "Noble_"
Sounds deeper than most other mandolins.
Do you have other recording with that Celtic mandolin?
whats the song called?
Great tune, in the middle of working it out thanks to slow down on UA-cam, but taking an age, don't spoze there is a tab anywhere.? If I listen to it enough it will be in my head, but I'm 65 and the head don't work like it used to.
Did you figure out it? And did you make a TAB?
Does this tune have a name?
Oh god...lovely.
Do you have any suggestions about strings gauge, strings height for Irish music?
Just get the strings and action you like...
So amazing and beautiful ! Can you make a video tutorial on this?
If enough people want to buy a tutorial, it might be possible.
@@Nkforster just tell me where to pay lol
Well jell
Really brilliant!Perhaps already answered...but what mando is that?thanks
There is a link in the description.
Great performance! Congratulations! What is the name of that tune?
"You can call me big Al", it's been recorded by Ian's band Kan on the track "Noble_"
sheet music for this?
Did you ever find it?
sounds beautiful - whats the name of the tune?
"The Frost Is All Over" - @Eric S below said the name! thanks again sounds great!
is this mandolin body bigger than usual? it looks and sounds like it is..
It's the celtic style
Almost like an octave mandolin. Not as high pitched as a regular A or F style mando...cool!!
