Whoops. The Aria is out just now and it's out to dethrone the Starfield. Would love to see a review on that.
Nice review, also looking forward to your review of Aria.
The Moondrop Aria is definitely the most interesting IEM release since a long time
That was a good review. The filming here is excellent, this is a nice looking IEM anyway but I dont think I've ever seen it look as attractive as it does in the video.
woah i was JUST looking for a review of these
how does it compare to Fiio FH3?
There's a part of me that wonders if this review is too late or not, especially when the Starfields came out awhile back and didn't measure up with the KXXS and Kanas Pro, or even the Blessing series. Idk if anyone is itching to get Starfields right now outside first adopters
After owning the Fiio FH3 and ISN H40 they are better alternatives to the Starfields. However the Starfields are still very enjoyable with many genres. It’s better to have an extra $110 high performing iem that’s still enjoyable rather than 10 budget iems that you never listen to.
I listened to a lot of sound demos of these because everyone seems to recommend them in that price bracket. I couldn't get over how dark they were, and I'm a fairly treble sensitive person, but these are just too dark. I ended up going with the ikko oh1 instead, and I've been very pleased with those.
Sound demos are not at all an accurate representation of how a headphone sounds, primarily due the compounding effect. In most cases you'll end up with a much warmer sound from a sound demo than the headphone actually has, except in certain situations where the compensation has been applied. But even then, the person producing them can't select for every headphone or audio device that's going to be playing back the sound demo. So it's still ballpark at best.
@@TheHEADPHONEShow Oh I know, I always take them with a grain of salt. But all of them, from different sources (even trying out several different headphones/IEMs on my end), were similar enough that it helped me make the decision.
I hope someday I will see LZ A7 review on this channel.
Hey man! Can you please recommend me a better alternative for piano specifically? (Under $200) I listen to mostly jazz and want a balenced sound signature. I can't handle trebble harshness and poor build quality.
The sound of this IEM is ok for this price. The bass is good. But there is something wierd going on in the heights. If you buy this IEM try playing "Michael Jackson - Why You Wanna Trip on Me" an pay attention to the harsh clap of th track after the intro. I literally cannot listen to that track with Starflieds because it just cuts my ears to much.
The starfields are not that sharp...
@@potaeto69 Compared to what?
@@traindeluxe3789 alot of other iems...
Another amazing review!
Are you planning to review the ThieAudio Legacy 4 soon?
I recently got these yesterday and the sound has surprisingly made me not miss my AirPods max and Sony’s over ear for sound quality. I’m a beginner in the audio game but the moon drops have exceeded my expectations for being small.
Whats your opinion on the sound magic earbuds.
I wonder if these require a bit of burn in and by a bit i mean A heap. The way JVC carbon nanotube IEMs experienced a more balanced treble/roll off as 500hrs+ was hit this may be the case bc its what i came to see from most reviews. Those JVC's came out around a decade ago, but i never got my hands on the higher tier options from the HA-FX40 and HA FX-101 which were more budget options. Still i got them mostly for their bass presentation. Since these look to be decent and still include carbon nanotube/single drivers. They definitely have my attention from a tuning/staging aspect as well as the potential/potentiation of the sound improving from thorough burn in.
If only ER2SE didn't exist
So weird that this review comes out right after Aria is released... Like they're trying to clear stock lol
This or the tin t2s?
I bought this since launch, this was one of the most hyped iem that time. It does perform well initially but it is getting boring for me. Now it is just sitting in the cabinet collecting dust haha
You can always give it away to the poor, like me :)
Can you recommend a good first IEM? I'm looking to buy my first pair in the $100-150 range. A sound signature that is between flat and mids focus.
This review just got me a brand new Moondrop Starfield. By default, it is spot on as what you've reviewed. Now I'm on the process of burning it now because some Starfield owner says that it sounds better after intense burn for a while using some classical hi res music.
How did you buy a starfield less than a day after the review release?
@@Evan-iq5xf already at the shop trying to decide between starfield, ssp, and tri to upgrade my zst. Whilst trying the iem, I specifically searched some review about starfield.
@Mirion Mir That’s not true. Maybe one day you’ll learn. I guess low quality speakers/headphones/iem’s don’t need to be burnt in 🤷♂️
Hello Chrono. Might you suggest alternative Starfirld ear tips? I am using the smallest to get the best sound but these do not feel secure. Thanks. BTW I purchased Sundaras from Headphones and am very pleased.
Why do you have two reviews of these iems on this channel? Genuinely curious.
Budget item? Try KZ - audio.
is the dusk more neutral than the normal b2?
Normal B2 is flatter, Dusk is more balanced.
I think the Dusk has slightly elevated bass.
Thank you for review! Definitely an interesting IEM.
How is the cable noise on these? Asking for all bearded people.
The B2 are just A LITTLE better than the Starfield.
Chrono have you tried the Drop JVC FDX1? they are my main "neutral" iem.For "fun" i use the Fiio FH5
Keen on hearing your review on the Moondrop Aria
I had two pairs of Starfields. The left driver on both units died. First one died after three weeks. Second one died after 3 months. The second pair was sent to me by the seller as warranty replacement. So from my experience with this brand and model I would say they have severe quality issues. The warranty replecement takes a long time to ship from china.
Did you try taking out the filters? My unit had channel imbalance due to the filters getting pushed back the nuzzle. I took the filters out, my pair still works after 8 months.
Have heard about the Starfields having QC issues, I assume some drivers are faulty which is no surprise given that some chi-fi products are plagued by QC issues.
Replace dem Filters... I was surprised myself when I did it, the starfields' filters are very easily clogged especially in damp climate, replace them with the triple layer one
@@bryanedward5355 The drivers are just dead or play for 20 minutes and then die. It is not an issue you can fix with filters.
@@traindeluxe3789 Have you tried to replace the filters?
What did you go for instead
how do you compare this to the nicehck nx7 mk3? which one do you like more ?
Any idea or upcoming review on mangird tea?
I got the Mangird. They are awesome, but not very comfortable. I cannot listen to them longer than 1.5 hours then my ears start to hurt. A more comfortable IEM would be LZ A7. Its ugly, but really comfy.
@@traindeluxe3789 did you tried different eartips?
@@Sayan_here Yes, the nostrils are very thick for my year canal, thats the reason. you can chose any tips you want.
@@traindeluxe3789 Seems to be very similar to the ISN H40. I would prefer a 5% overall reduction in size for ultra comfort. For reference the BGVP DM6 is a PERFECT fit for my ears. Unfortunately my pair had a serious tuning issue.
Theye were smaller than my kz zsn pro x and lighter at the same time. Suprised that you mention them as possible issues
Is it ever a bed time for chrono?
is there a link to them anywhere?
I've had mine for 4 weeks now and quite happy, but I have the IFI hip dac and they come alive more.
Yes the Starfields need some power to wake up.
Whilst I wonder what's up with the "whilst," I suspect a silly affectation.
Its just regular English.
Well written.
Love to see more such reviews !!
Great review. I'm curious what you think about the Moon Drop KXXS.
very similar to the Starfields in terms of sound
@CasualDude Nice. If not for you, I wouldn't have known about the Aria. I bought a 2nd-hand KXXS for $135 and that was all the sound quality I could ever need. Cheaper price + Minute improvements, I think everyone wins here :)
I own a Starfield, B2, pad-swapped R70x, and a Sundara. Starfield is the worst of the bunch. Yes, open-backed headphones will always win, and B2 is way more expensive, but that's not my point. This thing isn't the magical 300$ sound for 100 bucks as it's hyped around the net. for 500$, you'll get way better things. it sits as a leader in 100$ bracket (I have some other IEMs at 70-100$ bracket), for sure. and that's about it.
I have had these for about nine months. Had no problem.
How’s the paint?
Still perfect. No chips.
@@monkeyprojects129 I had them for less than a year(10 months) and my left goes out after long use(4 or more hours with heavy bass tracks) but that's do to water damage. Does chip if you drop them like I do alot due to its weight. Other wise very durable but treat them with care.
I have these and the Blon-05s. I always grab the Blon-05s because of comfort. Very important when it comes to in-ears. Starfields are good tho.
If you compared this IEM against similar priced apple airpods pro which will win out? I am in a mental dilema , wireless airpods vs wired IEM
Wired IEM >>>>>>>
You can also get TWS adapters for 2 pin IEMs
A:he’s right, for $100 you can get 2 pin Bluetooth adapters, b: the AirPod pros cost way more than the moondrops
@@monkeyprojects129 Or get the IE100 Pros, if you want more accurate sound and the included wireless adapter is a good addition too.
If you want sound that will blow anything apple has to offer outta the water, get iem's like this (KZ). It's not even close. The airpods have convenience.
I would not say, that the build quality is above it's price bracket. The Fiio FH3 is very similar in quality. The packaging is way better than with my Blessing 2, i feel cheated.
a bit late on this review. The new Moondrop Aria is even cheaper at $80 and it's basically same thing as this.
I think the Starfields are still competitive IEMs, given great the price to performance ratio.
Are they the undisputed budget kings? Probably not.
Please do tinhifi p1 vs starfield.
Tin hifi P1 have planar drivers. Need power to put them on their top potential & definitely better than the Boomy Shitt Bassy Starfields.
Don’t get sold by the looks.
@@AdityaSingh-tt4cs I do have p1 and hip dac. Loving them. Don't have anything else for reference that's why I commented.. Thanks for your input! ❤️
@@prabinpaudel5572 well, That’s an amazing combination.
What else you got in your Iem’s collection ?? What Genres you listen to, makes you buy Tin Hfi P1
@@AdityaSingh-tt4cs kbear lark which my brother uses. and kph30i headphone.. Thats all I own. Lately I've been into regional instrumental. Japanese drums specifically :D
What setup do you use?
I love my p1 for layering and vocal intimacy :)
@@prabinpaudel5572 recently I’ve switched to Iem’s, earlier I was into Earphones much. 1more Triple, Sony, sennheiser, Rha, Soundmagic etc.
My First Iem was kz - Zsx & Tin t2 plus. Later, Audio technica Ath e40 & Kbear Diamond.
I into Metal Genre, With I phone XR & Ikko zerda itm03 (ios editon).
Hip dac is out of stock here in India, Gonna be my next setup once it get back into stock.
Moondrop recently announced the Aria which is an $80 IEM (Looks to be a revision of an obscure product with the same name released by Moondrop in 2018.)
Wonder how this one stacks with the Starfield.
The drivers are just dead or play for 20 minutes and then die. It is not an issue you can fix with filters.
