HUGE DISCLAIMER: this video is just a joke and we mean no offense, alright? Let's TRY to keep it peaceful these comments. Unless these are going to be some Cursed Balkan UA-cam comments. I will always admire Czechia and Slovakia for the peaceful dissolution of Czechoslovakia. If more people around the world would behave in this adult way there would be way less conflicts.
yeah...I wonder if it's because we are about the same size, no imperialistic ambitions, went through lot of similar stuff..... they had little dark phase during WW II. but after that, I guess there was other stuf to worry about so we stucked together again.
Great point
it's because they would have had a very shared identity with minor differences, I imagine they never had the same tension that Yugoslavia had... Yugoslavia was like parents that were always fighting, and their kids were fighting as well, always on the verge of getting divorced but staying together for the kids and forcing the kids to behave... Serbs and Croats are divided on religious lines, centuries of oppression under Ottoman rule and cultural/ethnic tensions... a lot of their folk songs reference wars/battles going back centuries.... it's ludicrous, but it is what it is... when Yugoslavia's metaphorical dad died (Tito) things really started to fall apart quickly. They need to become peaceful neighbours first, and stick to that for a few generations before the tensions can be resolved.
the reason why Czechoslovakia split peacefully was that the great powers did not have time for us... the West dealt with Yugoslavia and Iraq, Russia dealt with its problems at home, Germany dealt with reunification ...
Plus, they did the split very quickly, without tons of drama and legalism nonsense. Feels like everything is bogged down in mountains of rules these days.
I'm from Croatia and I am glad that you guys consider us S tier, but realistically Croatia and Slovenia should switch places here. If you guys were to apply the same criteria that put Czechia in S tier, Slovenia absolutely should have gone there too. There isn't a single metric in which Croatia is more developed than Slovenia.
I don't think they were ranking purely on development though.
I'm also Croatian and the only thing more developed in Croatia compared to Slovenia is the coast. We have LOTS of islands. Truth be told, Croatia is a beautiful country, but living here you get caught up in all the shit our corrupt politicians do so you lose sight of that and people are basically pissed off that stuff in our country is more expensive than Germany and wages are several times lower. And since we are a popular summer holiday destination everybody knows and loves our coast, but nobody knows that less and less people here can afford to spend time in our coast in the summer. We kinda hoped that our wages and standard will skyrocket when we entered the EU, but nah...
Croatia is only better in toruism obviously
Im on a holiday in croatia right now but yeah dont take their rankings serisouly they have only like 2 to rank each of them and they never been its all for jokes
@@HrvojeBan Yeah but we didn't create the beatiful coast, that's pure luck that we have it (they have beatiful mountains), it simply isn't a matter of development. How a society governs itself is, and they were mixing criteria a bit. Don't get me wrong, it's still a fun video and I liked it.
I swear to God, Serbia is the most confusing country. Many people support Russia, yet they HATE the authoritarian regime, they show “Z” signs but you can also find LGBT flags around Belgrade hanging from buildings, it's a crazy combination of everything a person could imagine would never work out together.
In Serbia you will have a better time than any of this other places. Nobody wants to do sightseeing for more than 5 hours
I live here I am going insane going insane hhaahahhahaahaha
Foreigners explained that as true freedom of speech. We definitely are a mixed bag. Also, we never think those things are black or white. It's all gray for us, the whole world. I guess we're very disillusioned and not influenced enough by either "block", so we have our own weird view.
This shows that Serbia is a free country with a lot of diversity of thought.
@@belstar1128, well, it shows the people are like that. But we do have crap government keeping us in a slave position, let's be honest.

Slovenia is like the most underrated country in Europe. Definitely feels like the most developed, im saying it even as a Czech xx
Yeah just the country but not the people😂
@Romanian patriot Albania maybe, both Bulgaria and Romania are pretty well known.
Also, Slovenia might be known but no one talks about how developed and progressive the country is. No where near Romania and Bulgaria.
@Romanian patriot Who doesn't know about Romania? The thing is that both you and Bulgaria are growing much slower (or rather catching up slower) then basically everybody else. Brain drain, corruption, location, there are a lot of reasons for it, but the fact that Croatia overtook you in GDP per person after only like three years in the EU doesn't look good for you.
Albania meanwhile I agree. I would be pleasently surprised if 10 out of 100 Germans could name Tirana as thr Albanian capital. I'd say 65 of 100 for Bucharest and 50 of 100 for Sofia.
As a Slovenian I would say that was probably true until 5-10 years ago. Unfortunately I must say that Slovenia is in a decline... economically, socially, politically. Czechia surpassed us in many ways. So I would quite agree with the ranking :)
Yeah, under all those beautiful tourist spots, lake Bled, Piran, Logarska valley, etc., cracks are starting to appear. I think other eastern countries will surpass it in the future.
Don't forget that modern day Czechia was part of the Holy Roman Empire and they even had a Holy Roman Emperor who managed to make Prague such a beautiful city. It feels "Germanic" (and not "German") since there are many Germanic style in architecture. Even their villages look like Western Europe. I love that.
Czechia villages are nice, but you cant compare them with Western Europe... Maybe depends on which countries do you mean, but most of the Western Europe countries are still 20 years abroad. I know it, I live in Czech village :D
@@lukaskonvalina6120 It's not a comparison of course, but architecturally they are indeed more WESTERN than Eastern...
@SlavMan787 Uhm... Czechs are CENTRAL EUROPEANS just the Swiss or the Austrians... Since there is "cultural" division or Central Europeans in this case only Poland would be the only central European country considered "Eastern".
I dont think they look like Western European since the communist destroyed 90 percent of historical buildings.Still very beautiful!

As a person from North Macedonia, I agree we're kinda shitty. But I have to admit I'm a little offended that we're below Belarus. The most developed Slavic country is either Slovenia or Czechia.
In some things Czechia wins - Industry, Škoda cars, beer, purchasing power, Prague, pupulation
On some Slovenia is better - Mountains, highways, salaries, HDI, sea access
On some they are pretty on par - safety, education quality and infrastructure
Also Slovenes earn 10-15% higher wages but prices are higher, so in the end nominal gdp is higher, but purchasing power gdp is a tiny bit less.
But they both have very similar cultures. Czechia is slavic Germany, Slovenia is slavic Austria. I would say that culturally Slovenia, Slovakia and Czechia are very similar, maybe even more than Poland.
I would say the best thing about SL and CZ is that they are both in top10 safest countries in the world for decade, they have decent education quality PISA tests are higher than many western European countries and they have good work and life balance.
The main problem would be still above-average European corruption and that because we have less financial power our companies are often bought or owned by Germany, Netherlands (which rushed our economy in 90s and 00s but now its maybe more a slowing burden) and a lot of money are sent from the borders etc.
As a country we have been under German influence for many centuries and at some point only nobility spoke Czech while most peasants spoke German. That ofcourse changed due to Slavic patriotism that won in the end. We also have many German words in Czech language and many people here have German last names.
Calling them Slavic Germany and Austria actually makes a lot of sense. They are so similar much like Germany and Austria but also very different in a lot of ways.
I am from Germany so have been to Czechia many time and always feel right at home there. It's also easy to find common ground to talk about with Czech people I meet on this side of the border. I'm also from Saxony so my state directly borders on Czechia and had a lot of contact with the country during GDR/DDR times.
@@martinpospisil3747 as a Russian that learned some Czech I noticed that Russian actually have more borrowings from Dutch French and English than Czech(as far as I know the language been reconstructed in 1918 or a little bit later)….words of German origin…I don’t know I wouldn’t say I was overwhelmed by them…German influence is being felt but not so much in the language department.
Because Poland has a tiny relationships with east(specially with Ukraine) and it changed them. But in some way i feel that for Czechs Poland is like Ukraine for Polish
No Slovenia is not more similar to us czechs than Poland or Slovakia, they are much more Jugo/Yugo
I'm from Serbia, living in Czech Republic. It's a Slavic Switzerland. The standard and the system are totally western, but the people are Slavic, which makes it amazing. Also there is a lot of Russians, Ukranians, and people from all over the world.
Good thing you left Serbia and its pro Putin culture.
Yeah, I feel like Prague is one of the most ''interratial multicultural'' cities in the world... You usually don't have places with this many different nationalities together as there, even in other capitals
@Draženko If you actively learn, and maybe take lessons, in 6 months to a year, you can understand, and speak a lot. The roots of the words are the same, but the pronounciation is a big difference.
To say about Czechs they are Slavic is not very correct, we are Slavic from 33%, Germanic from 33% and Celtic from 33% (the percentage is a bit simplyfied), so let´s say Czechs are a propper european mixture. ;)
@@davidpelc let's be realistic, DNA doesn't really matter in these kinds of discussions. The language is nothing else but slavic, and the culture is a nice mix between older local culture and austrian/german border culture. But don't forget that the influence wasn't one sided, Czechs also influenced the Germans as well. Also don't forget about the existence of Polabian slavs.
I'm Polish and one of the crazy things about the curse word "kurwa" is that it means the same thing in almost all the Slavic languages as well as Hungarian & Romanian!

@@stanen Under German jurisdiction. What is the logic to save them in Bulgaria proper but not in Macedonia?
@doptpip This list is not based on politics.
Our bulgarian government strongly took the side of Ukraine, while the president is pro russian. The government was now taken down after a no-confidence vote in the parliament and we have new elections in 2 months. Bulgaria is a very pro-russian country unfortunately, the people are very separated and there are a few pro russian parties as well. Situation is 50-50. But I believe that the same anti russian party will win the elections again and will make again coalition in the next parliament. It's not that easy. For majority requires coalition of probably 4 parties.
As a German I probably would have ranked both Czechia and Slovenia as an S-tier as they managed to almost catch up with some western countries.
Also, Poland is definitely above Ukraine. I like Ukraine but I would place it one tier below Poland. Poland is in some ways actually quite similar to Germany (albeit quite conservative), while Ukraine still has some way to go (even before the war).

13. Macedonia (77.4)
yes, I think they also calculate the beauty of the country and freedom
No way Bosnia is higher than Macedonia.
Not so hard for Slovenia since their whole territory is slightly larger than Frankfurt airport.
Serbia is more developed than Montenegro, Bulgaria and Belarus.
If this was suppose to be done according to the parameters of development and economy, Ukraine is below Serbia, Montenegro, Bulgaria and Macedonia. Realistically, the most developed countries are the Czech Republic and Slovenia, then Poland and Slovakia, then Croatia and Serbia, Bulgaria and Montenegro, Macedonia, Bosnia, Belarus, Ukraine. Russia is somehow like a superpower in a special category, I don't know where I would put it, although GDP per capita is lower than some Slavic countries, its total GDP is 11th in the world and higher than all Slavic countries, and it has a lot of natural resources.
Ok, I was born in Ukraine, and I've been living in Serbia for 9 years now, and sure, there are people [mainly ultra [religious] nationalists, the "we're Slavic orthodox brothers" crowd] who blindly support/love Russia here but they're absolutely not the majority. On one hand I understand their sentiment, there's deep connections between the two countries, their hate for NATO etc., but I really don't like how the media portrays it like it's all of Serbia that supports Russia and the war, because they usually only show the "for" demonstrations, even thought there's been plenty in support of Ukraine... it's frustrating...
Niki - you are lucky to be friends with sophisticated and lovely people in Serbia, but all of their media but one (N1) are pro Putin in the most disgusting way. It’s shocking how frantically they turn a blind eye to genocide and suffering of Ukrainians and at the same time defend Putler’s war with blatant lies. It’s actually scary how aggressive they are. Such mass media coverage is controlled by the Serbian president who is deadly afraid of Putin and who is his most loyal puppet in the Balkans. I think that your sophisticated friends will share my opinion as they suffer the most in their own country under the dictatorship of this corrupt and deceitful madman. So, yeah plenty of people feel for Ukraine, but not the official Serbia with millions of their devotees. Unfortunately.
It says a lot when the serbian interior minister poses with the Z flag. I do not see any other european union wannabe government official doing that.
They should all support Russia
We have nothing against Ukraine, do not support any war in the world and we support normal Ukrainian civilians and we are not happy about what is happening but with what is happening in Ukraine, the USA is heavily involved, and we cannot be on the side of the USA (which has never been punished for its crimes against many countries and which led Ukraine to this situation). Majority of Serbs are sick of double standards, hypocrisy and interference in other countries by the EU and the USA, and they yearn for justice. The West has been practicing double standards for a long time. According to them, what is valid for some countries is not valid for others and vice versa. They refer to international law in those cases when it suits them, and in other places they ignore it and have repeatedly violated it themselves. As far as Serbia is concerned, the West applied and continues to apply double standards. For example, they say that they support Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity and that they support them in the fight against "separatists", so how come the Ukrainians are not "aggressors" as they called the Serbs, and the Serbs fought against separatists and terrorists within the then and own state of Yugoslavia which had its own laws and constitution that the West violated, plus it did not attack or threaten any NATO member (and according to their rules and laws, NATO can only react if a member is attacked and they violated it in Yugoslavia, Libya, Syria, Afghanistan and many other countries). How is it that Spain is not the aggressor when it violently prevented separatists in Catalonia in 2017, not to mention many other examples. There are also endless ultimatums and extremely incorrect behavior towards our country and people to the point of racism and discrimination towards Serbs (serbophobia). We do not hate Ukrainians, on the contrary, but we do not look favorably on their leadership, which brought Ukraine into this situation together with the West. We have experience, we know what is happening and why, Ukraine is unfortunately only an American instrument against Russia. We have no one but Russia to protect our interests, all others are American puppets. Nobody should trust the West, we are the image and example of a country that was an ally of that same West, that same France and the USA that betrayed us, they have no allies and friends, only interests. We all want the war to end as soon as possible, for us this is very painful because we never made division between Russians and Ukrainians. Plus the official country is neutral, it condemned the attack in the UN but did not introduce sanctions because it would be suicide for many reasons and it would be spitting on Serbian victims, Libyan victims, Iraqi victims, Afghan victims, Vietnamese victims and many others for which the USA and NATO are not punished, were not sanctioned, their athletes and artists were not banned, etc. which is unfair and hypocritical.
@@amarillorose7810 I agree... and unfortunately no one is a saint in these situations... everyone is looking at their own interests and you get double standards and hypocrisy, yes... but it still hurts to see actual "pro war" demonstrations and people who do not concede that perhaps, just perhaps, Russia could have done things differently, not outright invade another country and play with words and people's lives. I believe there should always be a diplomatic way out of things... At least I hoped... But... That's why the World is going to hell in a handbasket, everyone has their own agenda and be damned everyone and everything else and consequences
