Power chords, pinch harmonics, heavy ride symbol, perfect chorus harmony, great guitar solo (with awesome doubling); I was born in 1982 and my oldest sister was born in 1972, it is LITERALLY impossible for me not to love the 80’s.
Also 1967. They've always made me laugh though. The lyrics are so cliche. And the album cover! LOL. Tell me Spinal Tap was not lampooning these guy and metal in general.
The music video is awesome with the legendary Milton Berle. The dinner party going on downstairs with the band in the attic and the guitarist falling through the ceiling onto the table.
This song is currently in a TV commercial where a family say they have a Rat problem in their attic and Ratt is playing this song. I don't even know the product that is being advertised.
Same, but I looked it up and it's a Geico ad. Ballsy move on Geico's part to make a joke using a 35 year old pop culture reference. Personally, I thought it was hilarious, but I wonder what percentage of the population the joke didn't hit with?
I have to tell people all the time when discussing anything 80’s that the energy of that decade may never be matched, it was totally off the hook. Sad thing is we left the 70’s that had so much absolutely great music and flowed right into the 80’s where so much was just Killer! Then enter the 90’s and through most of the decade all I wanted to do was slit my wrists and gag on a spoon, extreme sarcasm here. The only other time in the 20’th century that had crazy energy was the Roaring Twenties and the social economics were very much alike, so to speak. The sky was the limit. It’s a sad truth that time goes on whether we like it or not. But I always have great nostalgia thinking back to my teenage and early twenties years, thankfully a lot was recorded and we can still enjoy it 30-40 years later. 😎
this was also be true of the 90's and 2000's. yes there was internet and more things to keep us entertained than in the 80's, but there weren't things like the smart phone to distract us until the 2010's.
This song was in such heavy rotation in the mid 80's, you couldn't get away from it. If you were in HS then, with your first beater car, you were blasting this on your way to school. Good times.
My sister is a huge Def Lep fan, from day one! I got front row seats and a limo surprise to see them in Ft Lauderdale 2019. I liked them going in. They blew the freakin roof off. I left a fan!
@viclagina347 I saw Ozzy in 1989, and the Bullet Boys opened. It was at the Tower Theater in Upper Darby, Pa and it was a pay-per-view concert. They got Philly booed big time. I'll never forget when the singer said something like 'You don't boo rock n roll' and the boos got louder. It was great. You take care 🙂
Love it!! I saw Ratt November 1st 1984,they opened up for Billy Squier! It was Awesome! One thing I missed about the 80s was the guitar solos..it seemed like every Hair Metal or Rock song had a solo!

I saw that same tour. Billy Squire and Ratt. I was a sophomore in HS. I was so high I only remember hearing one song from Ratt. It was this song and was the last song of their set.
I wore out a couple of copies of Out of the Cellar on cassette tape back in the day. The entire album is that good. Back for More is my favorite track.
An amazing piece of pop metal. Accessible and catchy yet still heavy. This used to be one of my karaoke jams. A thing which should be remembered is that Ratt were one of the early bands playing what would later be termed hair or glam metal. Quiet Riot, W.A.S.P, Motley Crue and Dokken are some other examples of "proto" hair metal (even though most of the early bands later adopted the full hair metal style, for better or worse). All that stuff was coming out in the 81 - 85 era right alongside Maiden, Priest, Sabbath, Ozzy, Scorpions, Schenker, Accept, etc. Guns N Roses first record didn't come out until 1986, three years after the first Ratt album (which included Round and Round).
I'm always going to associate the band Ratt with a clip from a 1986 Bob Dylan documentary where he's talking to this kid who likes Heavy Metal music and Bob Dylan is all like "How bout Ratt? How bout Ratt?"
So true about an enormous amount of talent spread throughout the ’80’s ‘Hair Metal’ scene. Not every band had full on musically blessed musicians’, and soooo many guitarists took what EVH & Randy Rhodes were doing & just did their own thing with it. Adrian Vandenberg, Phil Collen, Vivian Campbell, Rudy Schenker, Eddie Ojeda, C.C. Deville, Richie Sambora, and SOOOO many others. I graduated HS in 1984… so I grew up on, lived through, continue to reminisce about all of that stuff all the time. As a matter of fact, I’m going to listen to my over 250 song custom made “HAIR NATION” Spotify playlist right now!
To see two guys enjoying a song that came out when my 50 year old self was 11 years old warms my heart And I cant believe its been that long ago. Time flys.
One of the most heartbreaking VH1 Band History videos is the Ratt one. With their lead guitarist and chief songwriter, Robbin Crosby of the band passing away, this band has been through pure hell.
I was looking through my ticket stubs couple years ago and I've been to about 80 shows had two stubs for RATT...I can't remember ever seeing them in concert
I've always dug on the part where they preload the backing track for the chorus in the previous Measure. I think it starts on the 3... regardless, you hear the "round and round" lyric prior to the actual lyric. they start doing it around 4:40 on.
Other great ones from Ratt are Slip of the Lip, Lay it Down, and You're in Love, among others. I saw them with Poison, Great White, and L.A. Guns, back in '99 and it was a great show.
Check out these by RATT: you’re in love, in your direction, walking the dog, dangerous but worth the risk, back for more, body talk, way cool junior. All BANGERS!!
Love that y'all are doing some '80s rock here lately. Always wondered what y'all's reaction would be to some of the mainstream songs from then. Hope y'all keep it up. The reaction fans love '80s rock
This album and Shout at the Devil are the quintessential LA Sunset Strip sleazy hair metal albums before the genre got played out to death I can't stress to you how awesome the video was for this back in 84 and yeah that chorus definitely makes it an A or A+
'Round and Round' is definitely the definition of a 'banger'. I've(G here, not sure if my partner T knows this song) always jammed out to this song whenever I hear it over the years now. Their most notable song for sure. Other songs I like by them are 'lay it down', 'way cool Jr', 'back for more', 'lack of communication', 'You're in love' and my second favorite by them 'shame, shame, shame'. Great 80's hard rock hair band!🤟
Ratt Rocks! Easily one of my favorites from the 80's. They have a long list of great tunes. Unfortunately most didn't get radio play. I have a few on my channel.✌
Love these guys in the 80s! A few years ago I had lunch in Palm Springs and the drummer Bobby and his girlfriend sat right next to us and they were both friendliest nicest people in the world! I showed him a few recent photos from my vinyl collection that included albums of his and he was pretty stoked.
"Lack of Communication" by RATT is the song you need to hear. It is written so well, it is relevant today. Solid album, could be a full reaction candidate.
Nobody Rides For Free is a later Ratt song that has a completely different sound, that I love. It’s on the soundtrack for Point Break with Patrick Swayze & Keanu Reeves. It’s probably my favorite Ratt song of all time, and that’s saying a lot since I own every album they’ve ever made! 😅
Saw Ratt live at The Monsters of Rock festival,England 1985....they were surprisingly good,....in fact they were great.....a lot heavier than their recordings👏👏👏👏
This was so freaking catchy. It sucked me in against my will. I had to hide this cassette from my brother because I probably would’ve been disowned for listening to it. That's the thing about the 80s: the technology that too many modern artists hide behind didn't exist yet so everyone really could play and sing at a pretty good level. Some were obviously better than others, but it's not like today where if you have the look the record company wants they can fix everything else.
80's hair metal. Don't over think just enjoy. That being said: Motley Crue: Too young to fall in love, Cinderella: Nobody's fool, Scorpions: Still loving you or No one like you..etc. so many great songs!
This was a great era. I grew up in this time and played in rock bands. Being a musician, songwriter and vocalist myself and playing 3 different musical instruments, it was an extremely fun time.
🎵"Round and Round. Well, love will find a way, just give it time. Right round baby, right around, like a record spinning right round, round, roun..."🎶 Oh, wait.... Sorry...
I miss the 80s!!! Going to high school and college in the 80s was...THE best. And living in L.A. in the second 1/2 of the 80s? Perfection. Seeing all these guys hanging out in bars/clubs was so fun.
Couple things, first, having been a teen headbanger in the mid 80's, I couldn't click this reaction fast enough. 😂 Second, just an observation for most music from 1982 till at least 1990, you miss a LOT of context not watching the official video. For instance, I couldn't imagine A-ha's "Take on Me" without the iconic video. Even decades later, hearing that song on the radio, the video plays on my mind. This RATT song also has an iconic video associated with it. Third, I wonder if this review means that glam metal bands of this era are no longer considered lame and cheesy because for decades Rolling Stone magazine and the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame quietly snubbed most glam metal bands. It seemed that the music gatekeepers were either boomers who always hated glam/hair metal or older Millennials who felt it was outdated cheese. It was nice seeing an impartial review of this song.... Well done! 😊
The snobby boomer gatekeepers like Christgau have been on their way out for a while. Rush getting into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013 was pretty much the dam breaking on that, although there are still plenty of obvious deserving artists waiting their turn.
Big hit back in the day. One of those ear worm songs where at times I couldn't get it out of my head as a kid. I would have said B+ - A as well. I'd love to see your reaction to Zebra's "Who's Behind The Door".
Worked front (stage) security on their 1st tour (Green Bay)... Small ballroom, no stage. They used tipped over cafeteria tables as divider between crowd. Halfway into 2nd song, everything collapsed, we got the guys safely off stage and after a 10 minute break and lecture to the audience the rest of the show went great. i knew then, they had a big hit with this one. Nice guys too, thanked us up and down at the bus when they were fighting off the women.
@Alex Look out Alex!!! - Your starting to like 80's music... So while there was plenty of "crappy cheese" during this time, there were also some good gems too. All the best, M-
One of my favorite bands of the 80s. “Round and Round“ is one of their best songs. I also like “Nobody Rides for Free,” which was in the movie, Point Break. “Lay it Down” and “Back for More” are great.
I saw Ratt with Lita Ford in a very small venue. It was like a High School auditorium almost. I threw a drumstick I had up on the stage and right before it hit the stage floor, lead singer Stephen Pearcy swiped it up and held it for a second and smiled as he tossed it to the side.
Ratt had a dual guitar attack. So, in the solo, the first part was Warren and the second part was Robbin. As to the intro into the chorus when he goes ruh round and round, Beau Hill, the producer, says that when he heard the demo, they didn't have anything building into it. It was just a stop and then Round and Round. Beau says he battled with them to add the little build up thing because the way they had it stopped all the momentum. So one night there alone he manipulated the tape and came up with that little hack that wound up being the hook. Morale of the story... always hire a great producer.
Saw this band as an opening act to headliners. Dudes were a music releasing machine. Between 84 to 88, missing only 87, they put an album out each year. Releasing those albums and also touring for each album was insane. Their stage shows were over the top pyros and lights...loved it. One of the bad ass bands from that era.
“ Lay it down” is a a DEFINITE must of Ratts! ✌️
Lay it Down is worth it just for the intro!!!!!
Their best song Period.

This song brings me back. I was in high school in the mid 80s and this was a go to song. It wasn't Van Halen, but it was close.
🎵"Round and Round. Well, love will find a way, just give it time.
Right round baby, right around, like a record spinning right round, round, roun..."🎶
Oh, wait....
Sorry...
I miss the 80s!!! Going to high school and college in the 80s was...THE best. And living in L.A. in the second 1/2 of the 80s? Perfection. Seeing all these guys hanging out in bars/clubs was so fun.
The 80s was the time for shredders. So many good guitarists at that time.
Ratt was in there before most hair bands. You’ve just scratched the surface!!!!
Couple things, first, having been a teen headbanger in the mid 80's, I couldn't click this reaction fast enough. 😂
Second, just an observation for most music from 1982 till at least 1990, you miss a LOT of context not watching the official video.
@Alex
Look out Alex!!! -
Your starting to like 80's music... So while there was plenty of "crappy cheese" during this time, there were also some good gems too.
All the best,
M-
One of my favorite bands of the 80s.
FWIW IMHO their best song is You're In Love, and its not even close.
The very definition of 1984 LA metal rock.
I saw Ratt in Memphis in about 85- 86. Bon Jovi opened up for them. That was a great night!
wow...shocked they hadn't done this one before. Ratt were good for a couple of years.
1984..Ratt. Heart. Bon Jovi. Together 🔥 this takes me back, boys!✌️❤️
Invasion of Your Privacy and Dancing Undercover are both great albums by Ratt.
I can see that it follows the formula of the time period, but the execution brings it up to an A grade. It just sounds bad ass.
Saw them back in the 80's with Poison. Ratt- Poison....great concert!
@Andy & Alex - in the same vein but much cooler in every way is “Bang Your Head (Metal Health)” by Quiet Riot. Give it a whirl! 🤘🏻
