" Why would you be depressed here ? ..you the beaches the girls , the bars ...everything you could want here " That right there is the source of the Nile . Total absence of that most vital ingredient for a person to grow and thrive on.....purpose ! Beaches, bars and girls ain't no purpose. They are an escape from the depression caused by having no purpose. No judgements were made in the making of this post. 😉😇

I quit drinking at 40 strictly because I didn't enjoy it any more and wanted better sleep. Watching these Pattaya channels I'm amazed that someone hasn't cornered the market on catering to health conscious tourists and retirees. It would require a different business model, maybe one in which lady drinks are fresh squeezed juice and wheat grass instead of booze. I've never been there, but when I retire in a few years I might like to come try it out. But one thing I won't do is start boozing again. There has to be a better way, a healthier way for all parties involved.

ex military for a long time, got psych issues as a result.
the only time i have fun now is when im on holidays in SEA, you dont feel judged there anywhere near as much as you do in the west.
i dont work and haven't for years so having to try and tell friends that i haven't really done anything for the last x months kicks you in the guts every time.
over there nobody cares what you do or dont do for work, you dont get the looks from people that you get in the west.
there doesn't feel like there is a blue print about what you should and shouldn't be doing with your life at that time in it.
going to move over to SEA once the pups pass otherwise if i dont do something then it wont end well.

Pattaya can be great fun - but when you blur fantasy with reality that’s when the problems start. I’ve spent a lot of time travelling across Asia and considering spending a lot more time in Thailand next year. No matter where you are you have to a purpose in life - i run distance, ride motorbikes and have dabbled in Muay Thai. That’s how i keep sane.

Great segment. I especially liked when you contrasted the expats on a budget to the big spenders on their two-week vacations. Alcohol: after a layoff, I went to therapy. The therapist told me that the best thing I could do to avoid depression was quit drinking. I thought, duh, and kept drinking. But eventually I quit and you know, she was 100% right. Not to mention you save a lot of time and money and are the same person all the time.

Yep. Cebu City used to be a sleepy yet graceful provincial capital until around middle 90's. Cows used to graze in the center of Fuente Osmena "rotunda" but now you risk life and limb just trying to get in there. More cars, more people, more congestion and that's the end of Paradise as you knew it. Boils down to a struggle for survival in the madding crowd. C'est la vie. I have met so many immigrants that live there that have become alcoholics because basically they are bored and didn’t think retirement was going to be like that. They immigrate to Thailand, Vietnam or the Philippines because they cannot afford to retire in their home countries but, the “dream” retirement becomes a nightmare. Being on a fixed income becomes a challenge and the only way to make the days shorter are to drink all the time

    • @paulietv2162
      @paulietv2162 2 місяці тому +5

Perhaps if they stopped drinking they could afford to buy an e-reader, or take up any one of a thousand low cost activities like chess, exercise, learning a language or learn to play a musical instrument. Anybody who spends their life drinking to 'make the days shorter' is basically just going through the motions of living at that point.

I lived on a tiny island far of off Koh Chang. One British guy was splashing in the gorgeous blue water by the white sand surrounded by palm trees. He stood there looking like a wet cat and said "I ought to be happy but I'm misreable." I pointed out that everything around us was just trees, earth, and water, and don't we have all those things back home? Yes, but it doesn't make us happy there, why would it make us happy here? He thought about it and agreed it's the people in your life that matter most, not your surroundings.

I spent quite alot of time walking on the beaches , or making you tube videos or Instagram that usually only 16 people looked at. Going to the gym is a good option too but i got lazy last visit. Forcing myself to go out of a comfort zone to learn more about them.

Emotions are like children you drive around. You don’t want to stuff the kids in the trunk, nor do you want them driving you around.

You can get depressed anywhere in the world but i get it money issues make it 10 times worse relationship issues make it 100 times worse then you drink which makes it worse ...just share it if you can some people listen most dont but if you see someone struggling just listen have a quick chat it really helps

I have just begun planting a few sunflowers and bought a watercoloring set to keep from being bored. My meetings everyday for an hour help greatly.

I liked this video, cause so many UA-camrs out there just show "Pattaya the fantasy land" but this one showed the real other side of life in Pattaya.

Good luck to you kiddo, Thailand was my home for 13 years, I had the high life there initially i worked in construction and was very well paid, also working in other countries whilst Thailand being my home.
Then eventually work came to an end ans the money ran out and it got real tough.
At one point I worked in corner bar soi 6, 12 hours a day 7 days a week, it was soul destroying.
I wish you luck, though i would recommend getting out of there whilst you are youg get into some form of industry and get some real cash behind you and set yourself back in Thailand.
Me personally would choose Cambodia over Thailand now.
