Wow. Excellent and makes complete sense. I think the main thing is parents are wanting the respite time. I've been there. It's clearly not what is best for our son though. It's not making anything better in the end.

Definitely makes sense. I’ve been trying to be mindful of how much screen time my daughter gets but now I see I need to be even more structured about it. As another person commented, sometimes parents just need a break. But I guess there are tradeoffs no matter what we do. The key is moderation and structure. And not giving up until you figure out a way to actually DO moderation and structure in real life.

so with this, what about when the parent is also so into video games and considers that there arent any other outlets out there that works for them...... That is what I am struggling with at my home with my boyfriend and his son. Both are so into games and the sole focus for them is either always on their phone or always wanting to "get on and play...."

I don’t think this is a hard and fast rule. I have ADHD and I grew up playing computer games and console games for most of my childhood. Both my parents worked and topped with an over protective mom we weren’t aloud outside while my parents weren’t home so most of my time was on a screen. I excelled at school. I was in gifted classes from the time I was in middle school and I went to college and had 0 major issues with my work while still indulging in my gaming hobby. For anyone struggling with ADHD. It’s absolutely possible to be successful academically while still enjoying games, tv and movies.

You seem to be a major outlier in this situation

@@grownowadhdNah, you're just full of shit.
There is no one-size-fits all answer to a neurodivergent mind. Stop trying to capitalize off advice that suggests there is an appropriate roadmap to any particular individuals mindset. Typical "Coach" if you ask me.
You're just contributing to the stigmas set around neurodivergent individuals.

Do you also think screen time for internet based schooling is harmful?

This is the real issue. Screens in the classroom. I have adhd and played video games all growing up. If people used video games like we did board games growing up, it would be the same thing. He's confusing excessive behavior with something that can help them unwind from the day. It takes moderation and a parent that is willing to take time for their child. Blaming something else is a cop-out. He sounds like the type of parent a child never comes back to after adulthood.

He's full of shit and trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. There's a reason he's only got 1k views. Do your children a favor and work WITH them instead of listening to some random stranger
