Bear Creek Upper Trip - Hackleburg, Alabama

- Join my friends and I as we paddle 10 miles down Bear Creek near Hackleburg, Alabama, from CR 13 to CR 172 (Rock Quarry). This water is dam released, so it's always cold but they only release on the weekends. This is one of the best trips in North Alabama!
Dan with a Dagger and a spray skirt. You'll be a full fledged white water guy in no time. Looks like a fun time on an awesome river.

There is just enough whitewater to be a challenge but not enough to overwhelm paddlers who are not professional whitewater kayakers. Looked like a lot of fun! And beautiful, too.

Man look like good time on the water. Nice group you had too. A river like that my boys would love with the lil water fall. Dan a have a question did you buy your red kayak 🛶 new or use ? I also like the Spray skirt that you had on the kayak too to keep the water out. I am about to get me a sit inside kayak for kayak camping 🏕. I found a way to fit my big extremely wide feet 🦶 in the kayak 🛶 with out my feet 🦶 getting Stuck inside the car yet 🛶 . It's feels a lil Weird but I get use to it. Dan did the cover come with the kayak 🛶 or did you had to but it separately ? I take it is hard for you to put your feet 🦶 out side of the kayak 🛶 . As my boys call It ( Cruise control ) you have a good weekend buddy and thanks you for sharing this video buddy.
Hey Mack! I bought this kayak (Dagger Katana 10.4) new. It was recommended by several folks (including River King Pete) because it's easier for bigger guys to get in and out of. The spray skirt (cover) was purchased separately from Seals Sprayskirts. It's not the type made for rolling, but just to keep splashes out of the boat. For a sit inside, look at the Old Town Loon 12.5. That's what I have and it has a "console" that can be removed that makes getting in an out almost as easy as a sit-on-on-top...and it has a 400+ lbs capacity! Thanks and take care, Mack!

That actually looks like a fun river to float unfortunately AL is a ways from me (Ne) so I would have to make it a several day trip to make it worth the drive there
Oh wow- that would be a drive! Lol! Bear Creek is definitely one of the top floats in North Alabama!! I'm not even sure how long it is. I've done this 10-mile trip and the 9-mile section below it.

Thank you! As Roggie said, it was a self-shuttle. We added several miles by starting further upstream than Bear Creek Canoe Run, but we finished at the take-out they used. It's such a fun and beautiful river! Thank you very much!!
Would this be good for beginners.? We have the sportsman’s 120 and trying to find places to go. How long does the upper take? I heard the lower is easier but that upper looks beautiful!!!!! But my husband and I are very much newbies lol
I think y'all could handle it. We started a little above the normal outfitter put-in (Bear Creek Canoe Run). The drop in the thumbnail is in this section. Besides that, there's two small ledges about a foot or two at most and you can scooch over those fairly easily. There's one really big rapid called "Lunch Stop" and it's where the whole right side of the creek is slab rock. You could drag your boats around that if needed. Lower Factory Falls is a mandatory portage for everyone and if you use the outfitter they have a staffer there to help you lower your boat over the drop and another to help you get back in the water. It's not the easiest thing to do, but it's not impossible. The scenery makes it worth it. Once you do it, it's not a big deal. :)
