  • We couldn't have imagined the excitement we'd have on this adventure. A last-minute trip turned out to be one not soon forgotten. But the most memorable part was reminiscing about old times and my buddy Hank's late father, Ken, who seemed to make his presence known to us on one of his favorite creeks.

    What a good video Dan of good memories with Mr Staggs . You tell really good stories while kayaking 🛶 Dan which makes it so much fun man . That's what makes it good time on the water . I understand now Mr Staggs asked God to Scare you two right quick . & it worked too because you went swimming without your Slide . It was funny seeing your slides Floating in the water but i know that at the time it wasn't funny . That's funny Dan you & me are the same age man . My best friend we have been best friends since we was 6/7 years old . This was a very good Dedication to Mr Staggs . Thanks you for sharing this memory stories that i know that has a special place in your heart .

    Just got a chance to watch this trip and Wow! What a great one. You need to figure a way to capitalize on that tree falling on live video. Maybe a short video?
    Anyway, another good trip and thanks for sharing Brother.

      Hey Bill! Thanks so much! I did do a "short" (as UA-cam calls it) and I think it's gotten more views than any other short video...although I don't normally monetize shorts. It was a crazy even, for sure! Thanks again, Bill!!

    Awesome video as usual. Great story and great creek. Haven't seen a checkpoint like that before that was wild. I'm going to put this destination on the map. Is there camping available?

      I hadn't quite finished watching the entire vid when I posted my first comment but have to say I loved your perspective at the end. What a glorious gift to see the world thru the lens of someone with the hope of Jesus and see all the possibilities of His providence. Thanks for that it's easy to forget in this loud and distracting world.

      Thanks, Jon! I don't know if there's camping or not. I've not heard anyone say one way or the other. But it's a beautiful creek!! Oh, and that was the first checkpoint I'd ever come across, too!!

    Dang do you go kayaking everyday? You post a new video all the time.I wish I had the time to go kayaking everyday. I'm going up to the Suwannee river, but it's flooded right now, everything's flooded. I know of a few other places to go that are nice but I'm not sharing to keep away the hordes of people

    • @SouthernPaddler
      @SouthernPaddler  Місяць тому +1

      Hi Kat! No, I don't go every day, but I would if I could...lol!! I usually do a day trip somewhere on Saturday and that's what I record and post...and some Saturdays I don't record if it's a local place that I've been to many times. Attending the "Week of Rivers" in North Carolina last month gave me a few extra videos to push out. Hope you get to get out soon. We're really dry in North Alabama and smaller rivers are getting low! And yes, not all trips (or locations) should be published! :)

    I'm looking for a good river to paddle in northern alabama, hoping to get 20 miles. Any suggestions??

    • @SouthernPaddler
      @SouthernPaddler  Місяць тому

      Hey Wes- thank you very much, my friend, and God's blessings to you as well!! The easy answer for that kind of miles would be the Lower Elk River and the Tennessee River as they have large, open waters and typically very little current to allow you out-n-back paddling. There are some backwater areas like Limestone Bay, Cotaco Creek & Flint Creek that are still flat and you'd avoid barges and most pleasure boaters & wave runners. If you have someone to shuttle with, Flint River, Cypress Creek and Shoal Creek are great options, but they may not all support that kind of mileage (Flint River would). But as you get away from sections run by outfitters, you can run into log jams and/or downed trees.

    How long is the paddle you are using in the vid?

    • @SouthernPaddler
      @SouthernPaddler  Місяць тому

      Hi KC! That's a 250cm paddle. I like longer paddles for my canoe and sit-on-tops. I have a 230cm for sit-inside kayaks and a 193cm (I think) paddle for my whitewater boat.
