Always the right attitude & tunes too.
It is a Godly thing to take & better strengthen those things that remain.
Tends to comically leave those mass engineering attempts, scratching their profit straining brains. 8720
That was a flashback. I can remember rolling around under a Curtis rack on a creeper while my Granddad did frontends. I spent so many summers in his shop. I can still smell it, black hole bathroom, and all. Looking back, I learned that almost everything can be fixed. Wish it hadn't taken me until I was 40 to remember those lessons. Good job.
Another young man being shown how to be mechanically inclined. Bravo! 😁👍
I have never had to pull spider gears to remove the carrier except for c clip axles. My dana 60 i just pulled the axles and then the carrier.
You are correct, it's completely unnecessary unless rebuilding the diff.
Proper sized socket and a small hammer have perfectly set hundreds of inner axle seals on every dana 60 I have rebuilt and resealed over 17 years as a factory certified Ford master diesel tech....ZERO comebacks and ZERO leaks. Everytime I used the fancy Rotunda tool I own......leaks and comebacks!! No case spreader needed ever to remove the carrier. Not once have I ever taken spider gears out to remove the carrier unless a complete overhaul is being performed. I own my own busy diesel shop in Calgary Alberta and own the proper Rotunda tools for that differential.....dustiest tools in my shop from lack of use.
And another!
So proud of you involving your son, with supervision. Thanks for sharing.
good training for your kids! They will remember the time they spent with you! go Dad!
it's really nice to see you trying to teach your son how to do things. he may not like doing it now but when he is older he will be able to do repairs on his own. Great Job
Way to go Dad and Ethan!
I've got that seal tool, it works and i think it's great....only complaint i had is the lack of a lip to stop the seal from being driven in too far. I'm a Senior Master Ford diesel tech, so I've lost count of how many axleseals I've replaced.
So gratifying to see a father teaching his son, that guy will be a great mechanic if he continues to be interested. Great video, you really know these trucks man!! Blessings, stay safe!
I love how you are working with your son! My dad and I did it together and it is always so much fun!
Sure is nice to see a dad work with and teach his son how to fix something good job dad
By working with you and learning how to fix stuff, your son will have a huge headstart over other guys his age.
Happens to me as well what happens when your a mechanic you want to get the job done and sometimes you forget to record the whole thing or you start recording late or do the beginning and end but forget to turn camera back on in the middle happens to the best of us bro @Stephen Cox
Various sizes of big flat washers make up the size difference
mr. cox i think that it is amazing that your boy help you...... that is rare !!!
A bi-directional ratcheting wrench would work real handy with that.
I did the rag trick getting mine out. Put the carrier on ice over night, went right in.
I used a long piece of all thread for the installation tool.
You can put the seals on ice too
I am wore out from “fixing something” today. Control arm bushings 2006 Duramax. What a job!!
I sold my lbz with 145k before the front end went south. Im sure thats a chore.
Jeepin Dave
I have 137K on mine. Front end is all new except steering box. Bilstein, Timken, Moog and Continentals. Pitman arm, idler arm new and stabilizer strut is bilstein.
i just used the cups from my seal driver and a piece of 3/8 all thread and a hammer to drive them a couple times now
Why pull the spider gears?
Why did you pull spider gears?
i just did my inner seals on my 01 f350 and didn't pull the gears, just the whole differential in tact. also i installed the seals with a 3/4" threaded rod, nuts, and two large sockets. cost me $10. i got lucky to find one socket that fit in the bore perfectly, the other oversized. to avoid a case spreader, i put the differential in the freezer over night, reinstalled, left cover of while it warmed up, so i could remove all condensation with brake wash before sealing up and filling up with gear oil.
Steve,Great too see you show Ethan mechanical skills.
I've had my '03 7.3. For at least 7 years and I've come to realize the best part about it is I can fix it.
👍 Great dad and son work right here!
Complained before about euro diarrhea music.
Now want to praise for including a more encompassing musical choice.
And I learned something. Thank you.
Please make a video showing how to adjust preload and backlash with or without the proper tool.
Wahlstrom machine makes Dana 44 and 60 seal tools, I have the one you have, it works ok. Good video
You guys did a good job thank you so much
Thanks. They always wake me up,cheers.
The tool also works for outer seal on 44s
I bought the actual tool after i had 3 of them come back the boss was pissed so $500 and now they dont come back lmao
Nice to know thank you. How is your Harbor Freight Icon tools 🛠 doing haven’t heard you talk about them.
PS Harbor Freight no longer does mail sales coupons, I was told that they are doing EMail .... ALTHOUGH. I haven’t gotten any yet
That's cool having ur son help u
Teaching your boy's. That's great.
Your not a bad youtuber . just need a automatic camera it comes on and follows you around. Hahaha
Hey Stephen what's the best cheapest J box for programming GMs
Why did you pull the spider gears you already had the the axles out just pull the carrier duh
He gets paid by the hour so the extra step generates more revenue
I try to "document" the jobs I do to show other people how to do something. Like you I will just get into doing it and then think as I'm cleaning up oh yeah I need photos
Do y’all think a head bolt or two with something welded on the hex side of it and a nut on the thread side with big washers behind that to press a seal in would work
that kinda looks like the tool for doing the left seal on a gen 2 dodge you have to go in from where the axle lock is and its a pita was looking at videos and thinking of getting one to do mine. did it the first time pulling it through with some ready rod but its leaking again.
Nice to see the boy getting involved. Should be rich by the time he's 40 or so. Ford will always need work done on them so it should keep him busy. LOL
I tried doing my seals with that tool and my seal wend sideways and it pushed that metal flange into the middle part. Its annoying how the base doesnt go to the outer ring because. Im waiting for the oem tool to get here
What size wrench you used for the tool
As usual you do good work ==Thanks
I'm a powerstroke fan Steve have a 2003 e450 horton ambulance , what state are u in ?
Why did u take the spider gears out of the carrier?
Love ya Steven but over the last years your content seems to have changed. still watching but i like the old content better.
Can you use another seal driver size from a kit that would fit better.
how do you know when to stop for the seal im doing this on my 2014 f250
I would be impressed if it did @Stephen Cox
What if you turned the tool around and used the other side to press the seal in? Would it fit that way?
Good helpers you have there
Dang Stephen he has Gotten So Big bro @Stephen Cox
That tool is for a dana 44 front axle.
Teach them young
I have a good question I have a t444e sounds like it should when you first Crank it up running smooth sounds like a 7-3 should after it warms up I hear a little knockwhat do you think that is in your professional opinion any help would be appreciated
Gremlins
What volunteer fire department are u on buddy
I got a question i got a 2003 ford f250 turbodiesel so do my batteries need to be the same CCA and should 850 be fine? So just buy two 850s idk
Two 850CCA batteries will be good as long as they are decent quality brand. Stock from Ford is 750cca and going higher is always ok, lower cca would be bad. I use 850cca all the time....17 years experience as a factory certified Ford diesel master tech
Thanks jason kool i really appreciate it
Oh bro you don't have to disassemble the pumpkin it comes out in one piece
A trainee 👍👍
I think the moral of the story is that Ford sucks. Great video though! Love that the comments are on now!
Did your boy grow a foot since your last video?
Little dudes hit his growth spurt years for sure! Couple more years and I won't be able to call him Little dude anymore!
Kid may not like mechanics, but at least teach them the basics, tire change , oil change, brakes , etc.
Wield two car together and have a pulling competition. Loser gets dragged around and is called the back half.
It could be worse you could be recording a video and forget you are working on a truck
Bonding with your son ???? That doesn't sound politically correct ... So good job bucking the trend.
Yeah garbage tutorial/review
