  • This is Video 3, and the cornerstone, of the Subnetting Mastery video series. In this video, we will show you how to use the Subnetting Cheat Sheet to solve for all seven attributes of Subnetting: Network ID, Broadcast IP, First Host IP, Last Host IP, Number of IP Addresses, Next Network, and CIDR to Subnet Mask conversions.
    Each of these attributes were defined in Video 1 of the series. EVERY Subnetting problem you encounter is simply asking you to solve for one or more of these seven attributes. In this video, we'll show you how to solve for all seven in 60 seconds or less.

    0:14 - Intro
    0:44 - Example 1 - 10.1.1.55 /28

    Now that you know how to solve all seven attributes, it is time to test yourself! Try to solve all seven attributes for the IP address and Subnet Mask assigned to your computer.
    Use the command `ipconfig` on Windows, or `ifconfig` on Linux/Mac, or look at the Wifi Settings on your mobile device. You'll find an IP Address and Subnet Mask for your current internet connection. Try to calculate all seven attributes for your IP network.
    More details on how to find your IP address on all devices here:

      If the IP address is 192.168.0.11 and the subnet 255.255.255.0, your cheat sheet indicates that's a /32 and group size 1, but all the calculations appear to be wrong, and it should actually be /24 and calculated on the 3rd octet. What am I understanding wrong?

    • @PracticalNetworking
      @PracticalNetworking  4 роки тому +1

      @@ytfamily000 You're in the wrong Octet. The /24 is a group size of 1, but in the *3rd Octet*. Video 6 and 7 in this series explain it =) Hope it helps!

    I am amazed! You have explained a binary math problem without ever mentioning binary math. Whenever I tried to explain the terminology to someone I have lost them if not by mentioning the binary system, then certainly when I start the story about the four 8-bit registers and weight of each position. Essentially I have done in my head that what your cheatsheet does, but without ever writing it down I did not realize that someone without understanding binary could just remember how to write the table and use the table. Quick tip for those learning, you can add the # of available networks per mask size /CIDR, by adding another row above that 'doubles' in each column beginning with '2' above the 128 in the group size row to see the number of available networks that mask allows. Hope that helps anyone. Ed obviously has done a tremendous job; I just figured I'd add something from the cheat sheet my instructor used in school (if Ed has no objections). And the '2' would go in the 128 bits column in the relevant octet.

      @@PracticalNetworking Thank you! I was so upset after working so hard for over a year to take this exam. That was my first try at any IT exam coming straight out of college last year, so I guess I didn't do too bad. I will definitely do better next time! I know what I need to study and I'm going to get my certification next go round. Currently i'm practicing again using your videos and I will schedule my 2nd attempt soon.

    Bro you are a savior! I am preparing myself to take the CCNA cert and this far all the previous concepts seemed quite easy, however I have been struggling with subnetting for two days lol and you have just wiped out all my doubts with this table in 3 minutes!
