Your ability to describe and sell me the best part of the books is genuinely astounding! I've watched other videos on the best (fantasy) series, many of which included books you covered, but I have not felt compelled to read any of them until watching this video! Genuinely, your commentary is so refreshing :)
Thank you so much!! That really means a lot! To be honest, filming this, I felt like I butchered every single series. I almost was afraid to post the video. Thank you!!
I was watching this yesterday and i forgot that i needed to finish the first book in the Witcher series, and i went thrifting today, and the first thing waiting there was that book! For fifty cents. I got so lucky. Really enjoy your video:)
@@iangubeli you are rocking it my dude keep it up!! 🤙 I first saw your wife’s videos and you were in them and I was like if this dude had his own channel Imma grab me some pop corn and a coke!!
So glad I watched this video a little while ago. I immediately ran back to your recommendations because I so resonate with your opinions on books I've read.... An online audiobook retailer is having a huge sale, and I picked up a couple of these series at a great discount. I can't wait to read them. (Islington Sp? And red rising) I've read potter, and lord of the rings started my fantasy loving journey. I did buy the Andy serkis narration of the series this week too - time to revisit middle earth) Thanks Ian, I love your videos!
My husband doesn’t really read so I read to him & I read the whole Witcher series with him , we loved the game and show and the books even more! so freaking good!! Love your video!
Thank you so much!! It was the Witcher 3 that got me hooked on the world and characters of the Witcher, and when I found out they were BOOKS….forget it!! I was a fan for life!!
This is the type of vlog that needed to be made. Don’t get me wrong I love so many others but vlog in the short of time you made it was so detail with great description of the books that so many others miss out. 👏👏👏🍾🤩 Ashlynn you definitely found your other half. ❤
Love seeing someone who has some of the same top 10. Lord of the Rings is also my #1 fantasy series. I highly recommend some V.E Schwab. Vicious is a nice into, really gets you questioning are monsters made or born and what makes a hero a hero. Also definitely check out a Darker Shade of magic if you haven’t already.
Definitely will be checking out the books on your list that I haven’t read yet! thanks for the video- I’m always looking for book suggestions and you nailed reviewing the ones I have read🎯
I randomly came across a video of yours yesterday where you were asking for people to recommend you their favourite books and my ears pricked up when I heard you say that the stand was your favourite book! (It is mine also!) So I checked out your channel and I have to say that this top ten is very in tune with my somewhat eclectic taste too! I think I have finally found my book channel!! Keep up the good work! 😊
I’m reading the faithful and the fallen right now and it is quickly becoming my favorite series of all time. I got the recommendation from you in another video so I just have to say thank you! I’m on book three right now. It is amazing and I can’t wait to read more from John Gwynne!
👋 you popped up on my home page- ive been trying to get into more fantasy! currently finishing up HP forever love this series Glad to have you on booktube!
GoT is so good!! Need to keep reading de series and wait for the next book 🥺 hope it gets release at some point 😂 Love the video! My book buying list just got longer and longer. 🇧🇷
Awesome video 💯‼️😊 I always love seeing favourite book series as I haven’t read most of them so this video encourages me to read more and to read different books and genres. 😊😅
I just finished the Red Rising trilogy today and it’s quite literally my favorite series ever 😭❤️ taking a break to read The First Law trilogy before I continue onto the next Red Rising series!
Your praise of dark tower and seeing Dune on the shelf behind you got me to subscribe, will definitely check out your other suggestions as it seems have the same taste in literature
Congrats on the new channel! Lord of the Rings is my favorite series of all time too, you just can’t beat it! Have you tried the sci-fi series The Expanse by James S.A. Corey? I really enjoyed that one and would highly recommend it. I think I’m going to have to check out Red Rising since I haven’t heard one bad review of it.
The Expanse sounds incredible! My wife’s uncle rereads the entire series whenever a new installment is released; he says it’s that good. So, I will definitely be getting to James Corey soon for sure!
Great list! Definitely gave me some new reads for my TBR! After Harry Potter it was hard for me to get back into fiction, Red Rising has changed all that! And a huge thanks to you and ash for putting me onto red rising 👍🏼👍🏼
i'm so glad you included the witcher series !!! i love that entire universe (books, games, and all) but feel sooo protective of it when introducing it to new people. it definitley has it's faults but i love the world and the characters so much it's still a 5 star series for me !! i wish more people knew how wonderful these characters are ! i cannot recommend the games enough if you've never played them, the story fits so well into that medium ! so excited to try some of these other series too !!!
The Witcher 3 is the BEST game I have ever played! Once I found out it was based on books (and flawlessly done, by the way) I was hooked! Sapkowski had me from the start! I wish everybody appreciated what this world and characters are!!
I've read and loved John Gwynne's Bloodsworn saga and have been meaning to read more of his work. You sold me at chosen one and animal companions! My rec would be The Vagrant Gods series (maybe just duology) by David Dalglish. One of my all time faves.
Dalglish has been on my radar for a little while now, and I would love to finally approach his stuff. Vagrant Gods sounds fantastic, so thank you for that rec!!! John Gwynne is such a legend, anything by him will be 5 stars!!
I feel like you definitely have to give Throne of Glass a go! Its got constant worldbuilding and the characters are so perfectly flawed that theres so much love that immediately gets shown. In the later books it also gets a heavy fantasy element (not that there isnt in the first books but the fantasy gets built up even more as you go aloong) its easily my favourite romance/fantasy series ever. And i also love it because it is nowhere near as heavy with smut in comparison to ACOTAR and CC. I would absolutely love to see you give at least the first three books a go! (if you do, how about a reading vlog🤭)
I love that idea!! I am excited to read Throne of Glass, because I feel like it’s going to be better fleshed-out than ACOTAR has been. Don’t get me wrong, I am all about ACOTAR, but Throne of Glass just looks and feels like it would be better! Plus, I don’t care for smut, so Sarah J dumbing that down with be nice!
Nice video. I search for top 10 book series all the time so UA-cam now knows to send me any and all of them, lol. I like seeing what other peoples favs are to get ideas for future reads. We share a couple series in our top 10's. And I've got a few more of yours on my TBR. I'll have to look more into Sarah J Maas. As you mentioned you don't really see her mentioned that much. Here is my top 10: 10. Deed of Paksenarrion by Elizabeth Moon 9. Mistborn Era 1 by Brandon Sanderson 8. Faithful & the Fallen 7. Belgariad/Malloreon by David Eddings 6. Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss 5. Malazan by Steven Erikson 4. First Law 3. Drenai Saga by David Gemmell 2. Stormlight Archive by Sanderson 1. Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan I saw in your shelf tour vid that your having trouble with Malazan and that you haven't started WoT yet. First off I think EVERYONE has trouble with Malazan at some point during the series, lol. Mine happened in book 5; took a month and a half to push through that damn book. I hate that book with a passion still to this day. But the series is still a top 5 series even with me HATING an entire book, lol. It's that big and epic in scope; it takes awhile to just wrap your head around the whole thing. As for WoT it's been my #1 series for over 25 years and probably always will be. You were talking about F&F being the greatest EPIC fantasy. Well you haven't read WoT yet so I'll forgive you this bad take, lol. F&F was a more condensed version of WoT with a warrior tribe like vibe going on. Anyway, welcome to UA-cam. Look forward to when you start reading WoT and continuing Malazan; hope you make reaction/review videos for each.
Excellent top ten!! I need to try Gemmell sometime! He’s a name I have had on the radar for a while. I will for sure be doing WoT and Malazan content! Reviews, critiques, vlogs!! All of it!!
YES!!! It is my pleasure! I am so happy you enjoyed the first book. Golden Son is the best book in the world! I would love to hear your thoughts on it when you’re done!
I can not believe you put Harry Potter on here! honestly that makes me so excited!!! my favorite book is HP and no one talks about it anymore and if they do they hate on it! so this is refreshing!
I loved the Licanius trilogy! What’s even more impressive was that they were James islington’s debut books! Talk about an undertaking for a first book 😅 I can’t wait to start his new series, but I also have several more I want to get to prior to that! I’m starting Warbreaker soon - getting into the Cosmere universe
The Cosmere seems so intimidating simply because of how expansive it is! I would love to hear what you think of Sanderson, though🤔 Licanius is so beautiful!! It truly is a monumental debut!
I didn’t realize you had a channel! Ok so was def considering red rising after Ashlynn’s vid and now i ready think I’m gonna give it a try. Malice wasn’t really on my radar but dang you make it sound amazing! Def gotta read fourth wing I literally devoured it and got my gf, who isn’t a reader but loves fantasy/ dragons, to read it while listening to audio book (which was so dang good) and she was hooked within first couple chapters
Fourth Wing sounds really good! I just got that for Ash for an upcoming book swap video on her channel. Malice and Red Rising are 100% worth the shot!! They are that freaking good!!!
You listed most my list but here are a few more. Homeland by RA Salvatore, Name of the wind, the fifth season, clan of the cave bear, the poppy war and the rift war trilogy.
All sound really good. I remember reading some Salvatore in middle school. I really need to pick him back up. Drizzt sounds epic!! I also want to get into the Poppy and Rift wars!!
You have great taste and oddly enough i understand the enjoyment of acotar I've read that series 3x lol...i love the dark tower series as well...currently working thru malazan and really loving it
The passion you have when talking about these books is so wonderful and YES i have added every single one of these to my tbr 😅 do you have a favourite Brandon Sanderson? Ive just read Elantris and absolutely loved it!
I have only read the first Mistborn book so far🙈 I need to give the whole trilogy a go, and then jump into Stormlight. Thank you for your kind words!!!!
Yes! I agree with The Blade Itself. I like every character too, but I have a book to recommend, like The First Law by Joe Abercrombie. Malazan: The Book of the Fallen has the best world building and characters, but it is difficult to read and confusing at times, which you may not like, but you may give it a chance since it is worth it. IT IS A BANGER SERIES AND IT IS IN MY TOP 1 IN MY FAVORITE FANTASY BOOKS OF ALL TIME. And nice video! All the books you mentioned are my favorites too.
I actually own all of The Book of The Fallen books! I have only read Gardens of the Moon so far. Admittedly, I have picked up Deadhouse Gates 3 times, and have never finished🙈 I want to give Erickson the due he deserves! So there will definitely be Malazan content coming on this channel!!!
Love seeing ACOTAR on your list! I love series like The Witcher or Brandon Sanderson's books, but I also adore books with heavier romance like ACOTAR, TOG, Fourth Wing, etc. But, there seems to be a divide between the two, and it's rare to see channels that appreciate both.
since some of us are coming from ashlyns channel and newer to this genre can you do a video on beginner fantasy/sci fi recs? i really want to get into this genre but it is quite a beast to tackle and im ✨intimidated✨
I can absolutely do that!!! Thank you for the idea! Hey, it is quite intimidating, but once you find that niche within the genre, you’ll never look back!!!
Love seeing books from both “sides” on here as someone who reads it all! I’d be so curious for you to read Throne of Glass! The first two were meh, but it truly becomes an outrageous epic fantasy by book three. I can’t wait to start red riding. Just got the first book!
You’re going to love Red Rising!! Korea ding the sixth book currently…HOLY CRAP! They just get more and more intense! I am excited to read ToG! ACOTAT was a good time!
Great top 10! I'm surprised you have Courts in here but also really happy about it! If you like epic fantasy you should give Sanderson a go! Just give the Mistborn trilogy a chance - it's the best one to start and check if you like the author. On a little lighter side I also recommend City of Brass by Chakraborty (first one is really YA but later it's more sociopolitical) and the Dark Tidings Series by Kel Kade (here the main appeal is the main character and his lack of understanding about emotions).
You just gave me some new authors to explore, thank you!!! Yeah, I knew Courts would be a curve ball. My wife got me into them, and I don’t know, they’re just entertaining🙈 Sanderson is for sure on the radar! I really want to jump into Stormlight!
Not sure if you have read or are interested in manga, but you should look into Berserk. I started it in June and I am absolutely obsessed. It’s very very dark, so if you have any look into all the trigger warnings. But man it is so good. The characters are so amazing and complex and if you like morally gray characters you’ll love it. The Golden Age arc in particular is the best thing I’ve ever read, and of course the art work is phenomenal.
Wow, you sold me!! Manga has always intimidated me. I think the idea of reading mainly visuals instead of mainly text makes my brain short circuit. I’m definitely going to try this one out! Thank you!
Since you like A Song of Ice and Fire I think you might like the Memory, Sorrow and Thorn trilogy by Tad Williams if you haven't read it. It was one of the primary influences of George R.R. Martin.
I’ve been itching to get my hands in sim Tad Williams! I’ve heard great things about that series, so that will be happening in this channel for sure. Thank you for the rec!!!
I have read about half of these series and loved them all! Have you ever tried any Brandon Sanderson books? I have recently finished the Mistborn triology and would absolutely recommend - I love the magic system, the characters are so well written and I did not see all of the twists coming despite realising with hindsight that there are references to them from the beginning. I also read his sci-fi book Skyward and loved that just as much. It is YA but I think it's still really well written with characters that start off fairly immature but grow massively through the book
Sanderson is definitely someone I need to give more time and attention to! I have only read the first Mistborn novel, and need to get finish it, because I hear it’s just great!! Stormlight is high in the TBR list of series I need to read! There will definitely be Sanderson content coming in this channel!
Great List. I probably will never read Sarah J Maas' books, but this is a great list. I am reading Malice right now,and it's amazing. Red Rising and First law are amazing too. I am thinking of picking up the sequel trilogy soon. What are your thoughts on it? Also I recommend Riftwar cycle by Raymond E. Feist and Memory Sorrow and Thorn trilogy!! Amazing classic fantasy with modern elements and interesting characters. I was shocked by how some of the core things about ASoIaF are based on/inspired from MSG trilogy, but they are totally and completely different. And Tad Williams prose is amazing.
I own the sequel trilogy to First Law, but have yet to pick it up. I will this summer, though! Feist and Williams are two authors I have been interested in for some time now, but haven’t gotten a round to reading them yet. I think when I start with Tad, I want to start with MST. I sounds SO up my alley!!
I'm from Poland. I've probably read 2/3 of the books in the Witcher series. They are written in Polish very well, with excellent humor. But if someone expects what is shown in the Netflix series, they will be surprised. When I started this series, I was so disappointed that I abandoned it. The book wins by far.
Sorry, I can not just narrow it down to just 10. There's just too many great books out there and authors and so little time... Thank you so much for you and your wife for doing book swaps and doing this together . My husband and I read and swapped books and went shopping all the time, and sometimes it's like people think we're weird..we pack up our 2 boys and go bookstore hopping and they both started swapping book series now that are getting older..JUST glad to know there's more of us out there.. 15.. What. A. LISt!! Some of these I have heard of and love, but there are others that have now been added to the TBR!! It does seem like couples that share reading as a hobby are few and far between. Glad Ash and I aren’t alone either!!
One of my favorite themes from harry potter is that our choices make us who we are, not our circumstances. Harry and Voldemort had similar tragic pasts. They were similar in many ways including their wands being related. And yet Harry was good because he choice to be good. He didn't want to be like Voldemort. He easily could've been in slytherin and been powerful but one of his first choices in the wizarding world was telling the sorting hat "not slytherin". I love those books so much. Plus Sirius black is the best.
Love seeing ACOTAR on here! I find her books super entertaining and fun. I especially love the Crescent City books. Currently working my way through the Cosmere, but this video has me pumped to get into John Gwynne’s books (picked up Malice recently)! So many books, so little time 🙃
Isn’t that the truth! I don’t have enough hours in the day to read what I want! You won’t be disappointed with Gwynne! And ACOTAR is brilliant. I am excited to try Crescent City!!!
Hi Ian! Very good recommendations here and several I also subscribe too - especially 'A Song of Ice and Fire'. I'm currently reading the first book of The Daevabad Trilogy by S. A. Chakraborty. For some reason I noticed this is fairly popular in the UK, but I haven't heard many people in the US talk about it and I think you might like it. It's very fast paced, with a context based on myths and legends from Egypt (think djinns for example). So far very engaging plot-wise, and the characters seem intriguing, I'm excited to see where the author ends up taking them. Also, I noticed in the last few seconds of your video you link to another one on screen that says 'this video is unavailable', just a heads up!
Oh yeah, I messed up on that😂 I think it’s only because I have only one other video at the moment! But the series sounds awesome!! Thank you so much for the recommendation!!
Lord of the Rings was the first fantasy I read when I was in junior high school (yes, I am now A LOT older) and fell in love with the genre....I haven't read fantasy in awhile I need to get back into it. What are some good ones to get back into after being away from the genre? I am an avid reader I have just been reading a lot of mysteries and cozy mysteries would love to get my feet wet again in the Fantasy genre.
I don't know if you've heard of this but I recently finished a series called mother of learning, it was such a great read and very different from any fantasy book I've ever read, so ya I'll definitely recommend you that, it's a very fast read so if you feel like it pick em up 😆. Love your list btw, hope you discover more new and cool books to change your top 10 list this year!
Brill video, really enjoyed your enthusiasm! Haven't read Red Rising yet, I'm considering the Sun Eater series. Have enjoyed the following: The iron druid series by Kevin Hearne The black magician series by Trudi Canavan Drizzt by R A Salvatore City of light series by Keri Arthur Jane Yellowrock by Faith Hunter Riftwar series by Raymond Feist Belgariad and Mallorean by David Eddings Farseer Trilogy #1 by Robin Hobb Reading other comments, I also enjoyed Swansong 😊
Thank you for the recommendations!!! Holy cow, there’s so many to pick from! Sun Eater does sound incredible. I own the first installment, “Empire of Silence.” I have yet to actually pick it up, but it’s high on them list for sure!
@@iangubeli I wrote a reply, edited it, then couldn't see it, so apologies if you get 2 replies. You mentioned that you already watch fantasy BookTubers so I wanted to offer different suggestions. Mike's Book Reviews is looking for newer BookTubers to chat to, if you are interested, I would be happy to put your name forward 😊
@@tracejefferson3169 ABSOLUTELY!!! I would love to chat to Mike!! His channel has been an influence on many of the reads that I have enjoyed over the years!!
This channel is so refreshing! Your excitement and love of reading are contagious. The content\approach is unique compared to other booktube channels like a breath of fresh air. New subscriber & forward to seeing new videos from you. Also want to check out your wife’s channel.
Hi!! Would definitely recommend my favourite series The name of the wind (Patrick Rothfuss). If you like it, which of course you will, I’d recommend the night angel trilogy by Brent Weeks. Also comes to mind Unwind by Neal Shusterman, although I liked the other 2 better. Keep it up! 😊
Thank you so much!! Rothfuss is someone I would love to try. I read the prologue to Name of the Wind and was blown away by his prose. Night Angel sounds really good! All of these are now on my TBR!!!
Thank you so much for mentioning ACOTAR because I watch a lot of fantasy booktube as well, and it seems that alot of the time that the series is deemed YA or "other" ; almost like chick-lit of fantasy, when I have found that Maas' worldbuilding is great! Is it on the level of Tolkien or Sanderson or Jordan? No, but it doesn't have to be to make it great. I LOVE the last third of ACOTAR, the trials?! Mist and Fury?! Now will everyone agree always? no, and we certainly don't want everyone on the same page all the time, cuz ya know variety is the spice of life, but it is nice to see someone like the series too!
Good list. The DarkTower is my favorite series of all time. Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Song of Ice and Fire are in my tops list. I like First Law and Faithful and the Fallen, but they don’t crack my top 10.
ive really been wanting to get more into epic fantasy! ive read quite a lot of high fantasy like the nevernight trilogy and the priory of the orange tree but i really needed recommendations for epics!! thank you!
I know this was ten months ago but you gotta hit suneater when you’re done with Malazan. I too love red rising (only finishing up book 3 now) but the two shouldn’t be compared one vs the other.. they should both be treasured
You should read folk of the air trilogy I think that you might like it its YA fantasy but its great! I just added acotar to my july tbr because of this so thank you!
I’ve heard a lot about Folk of the Air. The covers look great!! I think I want to do content focused around YA, and that series will definitely be a part of it! Plus, I need to read more YA than I do!! Thanks for the rec!! And ACOTAR is well worth the trip!!
I didn’t enjoy The Gunslinger much at all, and really had to force myself to finish it. Is the second book much better? I always hear that it doesn’t get very good until part 3, and i just don’t feel invested enough to get that far
Hello! I have Malice on my shelf but havent read it yet. Im worried ill love it like his Bloodsworn series and have to buy 3 other books in one shot. I highly recommend Engines of Empire/ Engines of chaos by R.S Ford.
You will definitely love it!!! It’s John Gwynne; it’s so good! Try to buy a book at a time! I know that’s hard🙈 I think I bought them in one go on Amazon? There’s a deal where you can get all three books for like $40? Yeah!!
and yessss tolkien is also the best!!! my top ten book series are: 1- Harry Potter 2- LOTR 3- Stormlight Archive 4- Inheritance Cycle 5- Anne of Green Gables Series 6- Narnia 7- Kingkiller Chronicles 8- Inkworld 9- Wingfeather Saga 10- A Series of Unfortunate Events sorry these are lame as I have not completed very many series at this point! though I am in the middle of like ten...
I think that’s a great list!! That my on for sharing! I understand what it’s like to not have multiple series done because don’t read them in order anymore, I ping-pong between series too much!
Nice list , i definitely will read some recommendations. Have u read Brandon Sanderson Stormlight archive ? For me , its the greatest series ive ever read.
Hey Ian, just found your channel. Love the content so far. I think I’ve watched like 5 or 6 so far. I just wanted to say that I just recently got into reading again and I binged the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher and was wondering if you have read any? I know you listen to audiobooks and they are some of the best. Thanks again for your content.
Thank you so much!! Welcome to my little corner of the internet! I have had my eye on the Dresden books, and I think I will finally get around to them in 2024! I will definitely be checking out those audiobooks. Thank you!!
Favorite Books/Series in my own top 10 or 11 (in no particular order): * I'm glad to see so much Red Rising love. It's one of my favorites. I'm thinking about doing a reread myself. * the original Mistborn trilogy by Brandon Sanderson, * Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan (later completed by Sanderson after Jordan's death), * The Darker Shades of Magic trilogy by VE Schwab, * The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, * Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, * The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune, * The Wayward Children series by Seanan McGuire, * The Murderbot Diaries series by Martha Wells, * The Wandering Inn by Pirateaba (technically a longform currently updating webserial, but the worldbuilding and characters made me fall in love and I couldn't leave it off my list) * Worm by Wildbow (another webserial, but this one is complete. lots morally grey characters, awesome dark worldbuilding. yes please.)
I love this list!! There several that I have had on my TBR for a while (Wheel of Time, Darker Shades of Magic, Mistborn). Now I have more to add to that list😂 thank you! Would you recommend webserials? I haven’t ever really tried one out!
You should really dip into Brandon Sanderson. Mistborn is absolutely amazing. Another great recommendation would be Babel by R.F. Kuang. Great historical fiction with fantastical elements and undeniably human characters
You need to read The Broken Earth trilogy by NK Jemisin ! Its a perfect mix between fantasy and sci-fi, and the first book is mind blowing, very unique.
Top 10 series as of 2024 1- Throne of Glass- by Sarah J. Mass 2- The Chronicles of One -by Nora Robert's 3- The Spoken Mage -by Melanie cellier 4- The inheritance series -by Christopher paloni 5- Harry potter - by J.K Rowling 6- Charlie Bone- by Jenny Nimmo 7- the veritus project- by Frank Perretti 8- The soul survivors series- by Tim LaHaye 9- The icemark chronicles- by stuart Hill 10- Weddings by bella- by Janice Thompson
@iangubeli it It's really great and ties in with the end on the current last book of the series. I was on the fence too but I'm glad I read it. World within worlds, is all I'm gonna say.
Bernard Cornwell has been in my radar for a while! I have had Warlord Chronicles in my Amazon cart forever and never purchased😂 thank you for the recommendations!!
Golden Son is my favorite book ever! I recently finished Morning Star but I still have yet to read Iron Gold. What are your opinions on Iron Gold and Dark Age? :D
Iron Gold and Dark Age are on another level!! Pierce Amos up the stakes (somehow) to make everything that much more volatile. I loved Iron Gold just as much as I loved Golden Son!!
Since you liked ACOTAR, you should also read the Throne of Glass series (and then let us know which series you prefer). The Codex Alera series by Jim Butcher is amazing, if you havent read it.
I want to get into Jim Butcher soon! Have you read Dresden Files by him?? And I will definitely be getting into Throne of Glass! I love your idea about doing a video comparing both!!
@@iangubeli I have not read the Dresden Files, though the first book is on my TBR for this year! I'm not into paranormal fantasy as much any more, but we'll see how it goes!
Thank you!!
This video has single-handedly led me to add 23 books to my tbr! Can’t wait to dive in - thank you!!!
Woah, for real!? I love that!💙 and it’s my pleasure!!
I like how animated you get when you talk about books! I think you’d be such a cool friend to hangout & read books with. Welcome to booktube!
Awww thank you so much!! One day we’ll have a book club on this channel, so all of us can read together!!
I’m excited to read Red Rising, Game of Thrones, and Lord of the Rings! Thanks for the recommendations and I’m looking forward to more videos!
Hey, thank you so much!!! You can’t go wrong with any of those options!! Let me know what you think whenever you read them!!
Ian’s hair (beard included) is more luscious and impressive than mine will ever be. (Also I am shook that he’s an ACOTAR stan!)
My hair makes me so mad, the beard especially🙈 thank you!! ACOTAR is incredible, deserves less crap and more love!!
The way you talk about books is so compelling! Thoroughly convinced me to read every series you mentioned
Thank you so much!🙈 they’re all well worth the time in their own unique ways!
You had me at "roll the montage". Thanks for the informal chatting-like-friends feel. My favorite kind of book tube video.
I like to keep it chill on the channel!! Glad you like my content!!
I was watching this yesterday and i forgot that i needed to finish the first book in the Witcher series, and i went thrifting today, and the first thing waiting there was that book! For fifty cents. I got so lucky. Really enjoy your video:)

You guys are hysterical 😂 the reenactment was too funny!!
I did buy the Andy serkis narration of the series this week too - time to revisit middle earth)
Thanks Ian, I love your videos!
Thank you, that means so much!! Ashlynn is definitely the better half for sure😁😉 wouldn’t be doing what I do without her💙
Love seeing someone who has some of the same top 10. Lord of the Rings is also my #1 fantasy series. I highly recommend some V.E Schwab. Vicious is a nice into, really gets you questioning are monsters made or born and what makes a hero a hero. Also definitely check out a Darker Shade of magic if you haven’t already.
I have wanted to get into V.E. Schwab for a while! It may not be soon, but I think by the end of the year I will have read something from her!
Your editing is so good and the way you talk about books very captivating and just entertaining, good job bro!!
Thank you so much!!
Awesome!! I'm so glad y'all both have channels now!! Congrats and good luck!! I read mostly fantasy but I do read all genres 😊
Thank you so much!! Any good recs you have send them my way!! Excited you’re here!!
So glad I found your channel please carry on uploading 🖤
Thank you so much!
I’m reading the faithful and the fallen right now and it is quickly becoming my favorite series of all time. I got the recommendation from you in another video so I just have to say thank you! I’m on book three right now. It is amazing and I can’t wait to read more from John Gwynne!
It’s my pleasure! I am so happy you’re enjoying Gwynne! He is one of the best around!
So cool to see your favorite books series :D Great video
Thank you!!
👋 you popped up on my home page- ive been trying to get into more fantasy!
currently finishing up HP forever love this series
Glad to have you on booktube!
Hey, thank you so much!! So glad you’re here!! HP is SO good!
I trust your book judgment. I will be putting ALL of these on my TBR with 100% intent to read 😌
It’ll be one wild ride with each series😉 can’t wait to hear what you think of them!!
GoT is so good!! Need to keep reading de series and wait for the next book 🥺 hope it gets release at some point 😂
Love the video! My book buying list just got longer and longer.
🇧🇷
Awesome video 💯‼️😊 I always love seeing favourite book series as I haven’t read most of them so this video encourages me to read more and to read different books and genres. 😊😅
Thank you so much!! Glad this video could help recommend some new names!
I just finished the Red Rising trilogy today and it’s quite literally my favorite series ever 😭❤️ taking a break to read The First Law trilogy before I continue onto the next Red Rising series!
Your enthusiasm and way of describing these books is fantastic. I think you'd make an awesome junior high or high school English teacher.
Awww thank you!!🙈 those poor kids would never read any of the assigned reading, because we would too busy reading fantasy😂
Your praise of dark tower and seeing Dune on the shelf behind you got me to subscribe, will definitely check out your other suggestions as it seems have the same taste in literature
Thank you so much!! The Dark Tower is absolutely perfect! And Dine is beautiful! Hope you enjoy the channel!!
Why thank you!! Glad we could recommend something that was worth it!!
i'm so glad you included the witcher series !!! i love that entire universe (books, games, and all) but feel sooo protective of it when introducing it to new people. it definitley has it's faults but i love the world and the characters so much it's still a 5 star series for me !! i wish more people knew how wonderful these characters are ! i cannot recommend the games enough if you've never played them, the story fits so well into that medium ! so excited to try some of these other series too !!!
The Witcher 3 is the BEST game I have ever played! Once I found out it was based on books (and flawlessly done, by the way) I was hooked! Sapkowski had me from the start! I wish everybody appreciated what this world and characters are!!
Thank you! Jumping into fantasy and this was so helpful.
Hey, my pleasure!
Yo I read the first one and have the second book. It was really good but that beginning was insane!!
I only read the Harry Potter series from this list but now I definitely want to read all the series you talked about in this amazing video! 💚
Harry Potter is amazing! I would love to hear what you think about any of the other series once you read them!!
Here is my top 10:
10. Deed of Paksenarrion by Elizabeth Moon
9. Mistborn Era 1 by Brandon Sanderson
8. Faithful & the Fallen
7. Belgariad/Malloreon by David Eddings
6. Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss
5. Malazan by Steven Erikson
4. First Law
3. Drenai Saga by David Gemmell
2. Stormlight Archive by Sanderson
1. Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan
I saw in your shelf tour vid that your having trouble with Malazan and that you haven't started WoT yet.
All of it!!
i read red rising by your recommendation and… WOW loved it. thank youuu !! i’m on the second one now :))
Harry Potter is a classic!! I will never trash on it ever! It’s too good!!!
I loved the Licanius trilogy! What’s even more impressive was that they were James islington’s debut books! Talk about an undertaking for a first book 😅
I can’t wait to start his new series, but I also have several more I want to get to prior to that! I’m starting Warbreaker soon - getting into the Cosmere universe
The Cosmere seems so intimidating simply because of how expansive it is! I would love to hear what you think of Sanderson, though🤔 Licanius is so beautiful!! It truly is a monumental debut!
@@iangubeli have you read anything by Robin hobb?
@@iangubeli sold haha and can’t wait to see her video!!
I agree with your list, although I haven't read all of the series yet. Yes, Red Rising is amazing!
You have great taste and oddly enough i understand the enjoyment of acotar I've read that series 3x lol...i love the dark tower series as well...currently working thru malazan and really loving it
All excellent series!! I need to finish Malazan, to be honest🙈 happy to know I’m not alone in the ACOTAR fandom!!
@@iangubeli ooo so you're a bit of a newbie like me!! I hope you enjoy more of his work! And you're very welcome ☺️
I wish they got the appreciation they deserve on the epic fantasy side of UA-cam. Hope to one day change that!
since some of us are coming from ashlyns channel and newer to this genre can you do a video on beginner fantasy/sci fi recs? i really want to get into this genre but it is quite a beast to tackle and im ✨intimidated✨
I can absolutely do that!!! Thank you for the idea! Hey, it is quite intimidating, but once you find that niche within the genre, you’ll never look back!!!
so awesome! i love watching your wife her videos are the sweetest!! can’t wait to watch more from you for sure!
Thank you so much! Ash really is the sweetest💙
Very cool video. It looks like you have good taste in books! Gladly subbed and keep up the great work! 😎🤟
Thank you so much!! Glad you’re here!!
Great start to a channel Ian! Starting off hot. Keep it going.
Thank you so much!! It’s all because of you guys; this community is the best!!

My new book I have been hearing about that I picked up was fourth wing..so we will see how that goes..
What. A. LISt!! Some of these I have heard of and love, but there are others that have now been added to the TBR!! It does seem like couples that share reading as a hobby are few and far between. Glad Ash and I aren’t alone either!!
I can’t wait to read the shadow of what was lost! Your review has me hooked!
It’s such a pleasant surprise of a read!! I would love to hear your thoughts on it eventually!
Thanks for the recommendation I bought them all. spend responsibly 😂
@@iangubeli i reccomend reading throne of glass series before you pick up cresent city :) its also one of my top 3 series of all time
@@iangubeli Haha no worries, just thought I'd let you know for next time! And my pleasure!
Might have a give ACOTAR a shot, especially if it can hang with those other series you listed.
It’s really good! It gets a lot of crap, but I enjoyed it!
Thank you for the recommendation!! It’s certainly piqued my interest! Thank you so much!!
Brill video, really enjoyed your enthusiasm! Haven't read Red Rising yet, I'm considering the Sun Eater series.
Have enjoyed the following:
The iron druid series by Kevin Hearne
The black magician series by Trudi Canavan
Drizzt by R A Salvatore
City of light series by Keri Arthur
Jane Yellowrock by Faith Hunter
Riftwar series by Raymond Feist
Belgariad and Mallorean by David Eddings
Farseer Trilogy #1 by Robin Hobb
Reading other comments, I also enjoyed Swansong 😊
For bloody, gory, complicated sci-fi fantasy, I recommend the locked tomb series! It’s the most recent thing to have blown my mind.
Say less, I am here for it!!!
I loved a court of thorns and roses series it was good!! Love this video! 😊
Thank you so much!! ACOTAR is great, I’m excited to finish it one day😂
@@iangubeli ofc!!
i bought red rising because of you & ashlynn! still waiting for it to arrive

This channel is so refreshing! Your excitement and love of reading are contagious. The content\approach is unique compared to other booktube channels like a breath of fresh air. New subscriber & forward to seeing new videos from you. Also want to check out your wife’s channel.
Hiiii! New subbie here! Love finding a man who loves books 🥰 thanks for this 💕
It’s my pleasure!! Thank you for the support, and for wanting to be here!
Aghhhh totally agree! I also recommend the "Defy the Night" duo-logy (soon to be trilogy)! I think you'd really like it :)
Woah, thank you!! I just read the synopsis of these books on Goodreads, and I’m diving into them for sure! Thank you for the rec!!!
This video was suggested to me under another booktuber's video and wow you're a fun!😊 So hey there Ian, new subscriber here! 😃xx
Hey thank you so much!! Very glad you’re here!!
ACOTAR is so good!! My wife got me into the paw books, and boy!! Never looked back!!
Good list. The DarkTower is my favorite series of all time. Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Song of Ice and Fire are in my tops list. I like First Law and Faithful and the Fallen, but they don’t crack my top 10.
Thanks!!You have good taste!!
ive really been wanting to get more into epic fantasy! ive read quite a lot of high fantasy like the nevernight trilogy and the priory of the orange tree but i really needed recommendations for epics!! thank you!
Hey, my pleasure!! I’m not too familiar with high fantasy, so I will have to check that out!
Find a man who talks about you the way Ian talks about Tolkien ❤❤❤😂
❤️📚❤️. The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings were my very first fantasy books!
Me as well!!💙 what a wonderful start to getting into reading!!
Yeah!!
and yessss tolkien is also the best!!!
my top ten book series are:
1- Harry Potter
2- LOTR
3- Stormlight Archive
4- Inheritance Cycle
5- Anne of Green Gables Series
6- Narnia
7- Kingkiller Chronicles
8- Inkworld
9- Wingfeather Saga
10- A Series of Unfortunate Events
sorry these are lame as I have not completed very many series at this point! though I am in the middle of like ten...
I think that’s a great list!! That my on for sharing! I understand what it’s like to not have multiple series done because don’t read them in order anymore, I ping-pong between series too much!
I think the most easy to hate character is Dolores umbridge lol
Nice list , i definitely will read some recommendations. Have u read Brandon Sanderson Stormlight archive ? For me , its the greatest series ive ever read.
One day I will read Sanderson. I haven’t really given him a shot yet.
Thank you!!
Great list! You should check out under the northern sky trilogy by leo carew! And gentleman bastards by scott lynch I think you would enjoy them! 😊
You just gave me a new book rec!! I can’t thank you enough!!🙏
Favorite Books/Series in my own top 10 or 11 (in no particular order):
* I'm glad to see so much Red Rising love. It's one of my favorites. I'm thinking about doing a reread myself.
* the original Mistborn trilogy by Brandon Sanderson,
* Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan (later completed by Sanderson after Jordan's death),
* The Darker Shades of Magic trilogy by VE Schwab,
* The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams,
* Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman,
* The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune,
* The Wayward Children series by Seanan McGuire,
* The Murderbot Diaries series by Martha Wells,
* The Wandering Inn by Pirateaba (technically a longform currently updating webserial, but the worldbuilding and characters made me fall in love and I couldn't leave it off my list)
* Worm by Wildbow (another webserial, but this one is complete. lots morally grey characters, awesome dark worldbuilding. yes please.)
I’ve had my sights on both authors for a little while. I need to just pick up their works! Thank you for the recs!
Ohhhh brother goose......LoL!
Yup.That's it. Clicked subscribe.
Hahah! My catch phrase 😂 Thank you so much!
You need to read The Broken Earth trilogy by NK Jemisin ! Its a perfect mix between fantasy and sci-fi, and the first book is mind blowing, very unique.
Ooo, thank you for the rec! I appreciate when authors cross genres together to make something special!!

Have you read Crescent City? It's next in the ACOTAR. It's fantastic! 3rd one is out end of January.
I haven’t. I have only read ACOTAR, and I am almost done with Throne of Glass!! I am on the fence about Crescent City🙈
@iangubeli it It's really great and ties in with the end on the current last book of the series. I was on the fence too but I'm glad I read it. World within worlds, is all I'm gonna say.
So much good stuff on this list. My recommendations would be The Warlord Chronicles by Bernard Cornwell and The Burning by Evan Winters.
Have you ever gotten a chance to read a Sanderson series? Especially Stormlight Archive. My personal favorite.
Sanderson is currently on hold for me on Libby. Hoping to get into him soon!
The show is sooo good just cool to see how they bring it to life. Books always best but do it when done it’s so fun!
