I cant thank you and your wife enough for doing the book swap video a month or so ago on her channel...Red Rising was one of those books included and I am now almost to Morning Star!!!! I have not been able to get through a book in years....Thankfully my girl watches Ashlynn's channel...I have a TBR Shelf Now LOL

Love the video, love the channel! I think you have something unique going. Your videos coincide with each other which then places you at a vantage point because your videos don’t become mundane and cause the viewer to feel like they are watching the same thing over and over. I say this also as a reader that doesn’t even read the books that you love. Even with that being said, your content is fun and seeing your passion for it causes me to be thrilled when I see a new video pop up of yours.

This is one of the most encouraging things I think anyone has ever said to me on this platform!! Thank you so much! I was nervous when first staring out, as if the way I filmed and edited wouldn’t be received all that well (and even if it wasn’t, I think I just like doing this for the fun of it). As someone who read Harry Potter at 10/11 y.o., when the series first came out, my little mind was amazed. When HP1 came out, I went to the library every day to check where I was on the wait list. The librarian eventually just bought me a copy as a Christmas present
Thank you so much!! That was beautifully said about HP. What a wonderful memory! There will definitely be HP content coming on the channel, so all of us who were raised with those books in the 2000’s can reminisce together!
And GoT is amazing! It can be cruel and punishing, but I have yet to find an author who can write politics the way Martin can. There are things I skip though (for obvious reasons)!

EXACTLY!! I don’t know how anyone could think that series is YA in the slightest. The best character work I’ve read to date!
This was very entertaining! I enjoyed your reactions and side comments throughout. I usually avoid videos like this because negative comments are hard for me to read, but I enjoyed this. I was definitely annoyed that so many of the bad reviews were from people who didn't even finish reading the books. That really shouldn't be allowed. Ugh. Whatever, I'm not really deterred from trying out most of these that people were hating on. And, I agree, LOTR is always five stars!

I’ve only read the Harry Potter series, but you make me interested in reading other series!
I’ve been wanting to read the Dark Tower series FOREVERRRR. Stephen King is an amazing story teller and I consistently become engrossed when I read his novels. I think I’ve only DNF’d like one book of his (as an adult) and that’s because there was a super creepy beginning that just did not sit well with me 😅

Dark Tower is spectacular! You have to pick it up! The only other novels by King that I own are “IT” and “Fairy Tale.” I will definitely be diving into his classics, because he is a writer I know I will enjoy for the rest of my life.
And, honestly, if you enjoyed Harry Potter, most of the series on this list you’ll probably like!!

If I can suggest any Stephen King OG's, I would say his novella "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon" is my FAVORITE. Then "Eyes of the Dragon", "Under The Dome", the novella "The Langoliers", and his collection of stories "Different Seasons". I would say all of these are books that I definitely think of many years after reading them.
Can't wait to get started on The Dark Tower Series!

Sevro is a hoot! He's one of my favorite characters. Have you read any books by Brandon Sanderson? If not I recommend it. I would start with the Mistborn Trilogy.
I haven’t dabbled into Sanderson yet, but I will soon. Mistborn has been on the list for a long time!!

@@iangubeli “It Happened in Boston?” by Russell H Greenan is my all time fav book. Other than that, “A Visit From the Goon Squad” by Jennifer Egan, “Slaughterhouse Five” by Kurt Vonnegut, and “Who Was Changed and Who Was Dead” by Barbara Comyns are some ones that might be up your ally

I remember seeing a review for a grimdark book, it might've been First Law or Malazan, I can't remember, but the person was mad that there was swearing in the book. That's what bothered you? Not the gratouitus murder or explicit torture?
Swearing?? That’s such secondary thing to get upset about when it comes to ANY grimdark fantasy😂 the brutality and gore alone should be WAY more offensive!

Funnily enough I've only ever heard people either be like you and absolutely fucking love Red Rising or exactly like the reviews you reacted to that absolutely hated it, I've never heard anyone have an opinion that was in the middle. Hopefully I'll get around to reading it soon so I can see which category I end up falling into.
It really is an incredible series! If you’re into twisted politics, insane space battles, and downright fast paced EVERYTHING, you’ll enjoy it!
What Stephen King book would you recommend to a newbie to Stephen King?
So, I started with the Gunslinger. It’s the first book in his magnum opus “The Dark Tower.” A lot of people, however, try his horror stuff first. Books like “Salem’s Lot” or “Misery.” I’ve also heard “Billy Summers” is quite good. It’s more in line of a mystery/thriller. Honestly, if the Dark Tower is any indication, I think no matter what book you choose, Stephen King will always satisfy!

I'm also having a problem rereading some of my books I loved. In this point I my life with depression and dread, I'm finding Grimdark is starting to be too much for me 😕 I've been trading in a lot of books. Not just those genres though
I understand that. Grimdark is not healthy, honestly. It’s too real, too dark, and too morbid. I saddens me to hear that you’re going through this dark time. Would be okay if Ashlynn and I prayed for you?? If not, we would understand. Know that her and I are always here to be a friendly ear if you ever needed it!

So question… what are your thoughts on the LOTR movies?
Absolute gold!! Love them! They do deviate, of course from the lore in a few places, but the spirit of Tolkien is there! I’m all for adaptations as long as the lore/spirit are respected.
@@iangubeli I see... I am one of the few who is of the option that they are not good... I do think the best thing is Sam of corse and the music is good and the sets look cool... but I really am not a fan of how they destroyed the story and the majority of the characters. but I say to each his own!

Okay!! So, the only Christian literature I own is all non-fiction. It’s mainly biblical studies, theology, and church and religious history!!
I did, however, have someone on my Goodreads recommend a Mr. Frank Peretti! He’s supposedly a really good Christian fiction writer.
Is there anything from my non-fiction catalog you would be interested in??
@@iangubeli yes I like non-fiction! I'm more of non-fiction christian book than a fiction one! I love CS Lewis. also love history so much!
@@elisabethprice4697 perfect!! Okay, my favorite Christian author is Michael Horton. Pretty much anything by him is amazing! I also really enjoy James White. He’s wonderful for grasping apologetics!! My favorite Christian non-fiction “series” is the Solas Series! Very good, grounded, stuff on Grace, Faith, Christ, God’s Word, and God’s Glory!!
My favorite Christian history book is called “Tried by Fire”

The irony of that 1 review calling GoT predicable haha. The whole ASOIAF series is famous for being unpredictable and for taking typical fantasy tropes and outright binning them!

I love the Lord of the Rings - but understand there are many descriptions. What I don't understand is why so many I see on youtube are horrible for FEET or find them disgusting? Is it an American thing? Knowing that they wear shoes inside over there, but I just don't get it.

@@elisabethprice4697 I am reformed in some ways, and not in others😂 it’s hard to explain. There are a lot of points I agree (most points honestly) with reformed theology. I believe the Bible to be the ultimate authority for the Christian, and reformed theology seems to be the most faithful to the text of scripture that I have found.
@@elisabethprice4697 I think I land more squarely as a dispensationalist (a leaky one) if I claim to be anything. My wife and I do not go to a classical “reformed” church, we go to a Bible church. In the end, the most important thing for me is the preaching of the true gospel to the nations, and the exegetical preservation of the teaching of God’s Word.

Thank you so much!! So, I have actually never watched the Witcher series. My introduction to the world was through the games. VERY good experience. I would recommend the books personally, but I hear the show is worth the venture! If anything, you should keep going with LOTR!!! Get past those first three chapters in Fellowship, and things pick up rapidly from there!! ACOTAR gets interesting for me halfway through that first book. The rest of the series after that is gold!!
I do recommend the GOT books if you loved the show! They are so beautifully writer , and SO freaking epic!! And neither of us have read the Mortal Instruments. I have been looking at the anytime we go to Barnes, but have never committed!!

I highly recommend the Mortal Instruments books I am on book 5 of the first series. Also thanks to your channel and Ashlynn I have expanded my reading to more fantasy and sci-fi books.😊
