@@TealBeal11 it is a big deal because service dogs have extensive training to not be reactionary to other animals and to do their job without causing damage. The laws are for Service animals not some persons pet that they decide to bring into a store. Places like Home Depot and Lowes allow personal pets that are leashed to be in the store, but it is against health codes pretty much anywhere for just pets to come into places that serve food especially. The laws are pretty specific and people do care. My cousin has an emotional support dog and she never takes her into a place that only service dogs can go. Her dog is obedience trained but is not a certified service animal.
Paul said in a follow-up video that the employee denied him because a customer had brought in a dog the day before with a harness/vest claiming it was a seeing eye dog, but their dog was a pet, not a service animal and the dog caused a lot of problems. Due to that experience, the employee believed Paul was the same person. The problem isn't service animals, it's people lying about their pets and ruining the system.
@@Anonymous-zk7ykI agree. You can buy these harnesses everywhere online. It basically means nothing. This takes education and awareness. And people need to realize that just because they want to bring their PETS everywhere if they don't abuse the system people who actually need service animals will not be judged so.
I work at a preserve where dogs aren’t allowed. I deal with people telling me their dog is a service dog, almost every day. I’d estimate maybe 1 out of 50 dogs is an actual trained service dog that addresses a real disability. That maybe generous. People abuse the service animal law with zero shame.

Not the wave the blame stick around and hope it hits someone with money or let's ruin everyone's life for one persons actions because that makes us feel powerful.
This thirst for revenge is the problem. So someone made a mistake, but they did their best to rectify the situation. No need for the mob to take over and completely destroy the business. Paul handled it beautifully. Just like an adult should.
If I was in Paul's shoes,I wouldn't either. Granted it was unethical but if Paul exposed the restaurant so many employees lives wil be at risk drom internet bullies and their livelihood. Its so eazy to take vindictive path but so hard to retract the impact on other people's lives. Paul understands that.
The generation of cancel culture is purely disgusting. The restaurant knows who they are and I feel this above all is the classiest most mature and best way to handle something like this. You don't have to destroy someone's livelihood or their employees or their business because they made a mistake. They are fixing it and it's a learning moment. It would be a shame if when y'all messed up that one time that your parents threw you out to the trash because that's all you amounted to now that you messed up. Pretty pathetic I would say.... That's what the cancel generation doesn't quite understand but oh Lord the second it happens to them watch out .. the world is ending. My God. Grow up seriously.
Thanks for making this a learning experience. I bet that restaurant employee is learning as well. That person deserves the chance to learn and grow too.
I bet this restaurant and its employees will start allowing *anyone* with a claimed service dog in. Because that's the only way to comply with the law. I think that also harms people with real disabilities. The law needs to change to enable an easy way to validate service dog legitimacy without requiring private information at venues.
Why was it heartless? Restaurants has their own rules, it’s a private not public area… never seen the sign “we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone?”
@@Jonathaneve5 its heartless because, he literally had the leash on that says guide dog, And she they still asked if he was blind... yes HEARTLESS!!!!! are you ignorant?
Sir, You are protected by the ADA . I was with a friend and her Guide Dog and a Restaurant/Bar tried to deny us service, saying Dogs are Not Allowed . I knew one of the owners of a restaurant across the street so I called him , he told us to "Come On Over! " we got excellent service there. My friend was still upset . I reminded her that what they did violated the Americans with Disabilities Act. She got LEGAL PAPERS and went back there. We were then treated to a complementary dinner , and I just asked him if he could make that part of their Employee Training so this didn't happen to anyone else. He agreed so my friend didn't take legal action against his restaurant.
The server even said to him “This isnt my first rodeo!”, meaning this particular restaurant has done it before. It was in his original video. There are many humans with invisible disabilities, sometimes even 100% blind people. I wouldnt risk it, but this server thought otherwise.. or didnt think at all.

It’s time to ultra define ‘service dog’. WAY too many people out there abusing this term and making it extremely difficult for people who REALLY rely on them.
It's time for a Universally recognized Licensing system for service animals. Not the BS 'self-identified' service animals certificates, an actual "Doctors Note'...a medical authorization traceable to a physician...like a prescription!
If the employee had been fired, they'd have had no power to make him apologize to anyone, because he was no longer under their control. Also, Mr. Maple is a dog who wasn't in any way harmed by the situation, and didn't need an apology. No, Paul had it right. This is a situation to be addressed by raising awareness and increased education, not by being vindictive.

Disability discrimination is on the rise. It's primarily against those with hidden disabilities. But there's folks like this restaurant manager who knows that the blind usually doesn't present with missing eyes where they're sealed shut, so they wear sunglasses, like Stevie Wonder. Most blind individuals presents themselves like this kind fella. Legally, all that management can ask is what purpose or tasks does the dog do that helps them with their disability. They cannot dismiss the person's disability. They can ask them to leave if say, the person claims that the dog is for emotional support, or the dog appears to not be trained and is disturbing the environment negatively. The restaurant owner is fortunate that the guy did not file a charge against them with the Office of Civil Rights, because he saved them a settlement that could have ranged from $10k-$100k. Unfortunately, most business owners and managers will continue with their Ego trips after this, and fail to count their blessings, which for some will result in a costly lesson later on down the road.
Wow, that is class and dignity. Not vengeful, doesn’t want to create backlash…completely focussed on turning this negative experience into a positive outcome by spreading awareness in the public at large and helping restaurants realize they need to implement more formal training on this issue. Kudos and respect!
People have GOT to stop thinking that just because you love your dog you can take it out anywhere you want, and learn the difference between an emotional support animal and service/guide animal and how the laws apply differently to them. Your pet is not a service animal just because you call them a support animal and got them a little vest, actual service dogs/animals go through YEARS of training not just on how to respond to their humans but how to safely operate in public
How this man handled this situation is a great example for all. He didn't name them online, try to shame them or try to get them "cancelled". He took the time to educate the owner and employees.
Many service dog teams who get discriminated against have tried educating the business. However often the business still chooses to be ignorant of the laws. That is why service dog teams go public about the issue with the name of the business, including any pics/videos of the situation, as well as reach out to lawyers to have charges/lawsuits filed then.
Paul and Mr Maple are one of the best examples of a beautiful guide team! Honestly, any restaurant would be lucky to have them as their dinner guests! Paul is also a beautiful person, always showing so much grace, kindness and patience to others and using these challenging situations as an opportunity to educate and spread awareness. I love Paul and Matthew and Mr Maple! They are a wonderful interabled family and together they make such a positive difference in this world! ❤️ 🦮
Kudos to this young man for being way more patient than I would be. I would have hired an attorney immediately. Hope the employees at the restaurant get the training they desperately need.
Fools with untrained pets is NOT a valid excuse for employees to take it out on and or bully innocent service dog teams and deny them equal access and service.
I’ve been following Matt and Paul on YT for a year and let me tell you, they are one of the most positive and most kindest persons I’ve ever watch , I can’t believe this happened to Paul ❤ Love you guys, I love the message!!
That’s awful. In the city I live in a few years ago a man actually got dragged out of a restaurant by the owner because he said no dogs, despite the dog being a service dog. There was lots of protests that happened afterwards outside of that restaurant and then eventually they ran out of business because of the negative backlash.
If you do follow him then you’d have known the news left out a key part of the story. One which literally many people do, faking having a service animal. That’s what happened prior and while the situation was handled poorly due to that negative impact. The employee still shouldn’t have e turned him away. I think also calling the police would have been a fine lesson for that employee to learn they were out of line and asked questions they literally can not ask.
I would have been furious as well. But Matt & Paul & Maple are so popular & inspirational cuz they deal with life's challenges with positivity instead of frustration & anger. Goals!
I raised 3 pups for Guide Dogs of America. Part of our job is to socialize the pups by taking them out in public. Once was kicked out of an Outback Steakhouse because of my perfectly mannered guide dog in training who was wearing her jacket. Employees were rude to me.

The owner apologized and made it right. Not every employee of every company is going to be perfect. What matters is how the owners/managers deal with the employee error(s).
@jaytee2642 over reactions are popular these days. Who cares that the other employees and hopefully the owners are decent people who would never do that and will try to make it right.
While I get the employee just had someone earlier come in with a ‘service dog’ that went bad. Because it wasn’t one. They should NEVER take that out on the next person and state they don’t seem blind. Not all people with disabilities “seem” like they have it. You can’t look at someone who looks fine and assume they’re faking it given there would be a multitude of reasons for one and they could literally be hiding it too. I do hope this was a valuable lesson for that employee.
Saw his short about this first, glad he's taking it further and bringing more attention to this situation. Discrimination for disabilities is unacceptable
Shame on the restaurant’s employees for their ignorance. There’s a saying, “You can’t tell a book by its cover,” in my medical field of work, its help tremendously. I’ve had patients that looked great, but then you see their cardiac profile and wonder how the heck are they still walking?
The problem is a person that looked similar to him came the day before and lied about his dog being a service dog… plus those kind of lawsuits cost a lot of $$. They aren’t worth it on a small scale
I look at the dog and determine by its behavior if its allowed to stay. I'm not letting a dog who starts jumping or trying to attack my employees or customers, to stay.

I'm legally blind in one eye, but my good eye sees normally. Only using one eye gives me no peripheral vision, though. You can't look at me and know that I have little vision in my right eye, and don't even ever use that eye, but the Driver's License Bureau knows and has that info. Pretty boy, Mr. Marples!
I had a friend with Retinitis Pigmentosa, almost blind, and she had a guide dog. People are so ignorant about this. He should name the restaurant for sure!
I get that "You don't look blind." comment a lot from people. I heard the full original tiktok. And I kinda don't care if that restaurant apologized and said they would train better. I want to know where/who it was so I don't waste my money on helping pay grown adults who still judge by looks like little children in school yards. Let alone the guide dog aspect. The ableism and harassment of so many power tripping able-bodied people has jaded me I guess. He is a really good person for not calling them out publicly... I have a nephew whose legally blind. But his eyes move back and forth constantly, scanning. He can pick up motion and some other things. He never misses a MacDonalds!
The manager apologized and is giving his employees more training. The customer doesn't hold a grudge. But instead of accepting the manager's apology, it sounds like you think the customer should sue.
My 96 year old mother has been legally blind for decades. She doesn't look blind...but she is. She has a white walking cane (not the extendable kind), but even then it's seems people don't know what the white cane symbolizes. She looks towards people when they speak, but she has no vision in her right eye and only a little peripheral vision in her left eye. Looking at her, people assume she isn't blind. There needs to be more education on white canes, guide dogs, etc. People just don't know anymore.
If it is a regular cane I can see why people are confused. She can use whatever tool she needs, but you also have to understand that people do not expect to see a regular cane painted white, and don't know what it is.
People need to go find Matthew and Paul’s channel. He made a video right after this happened and many of us told him he needed to contact the manager of the restaurant because this was serious. The manager invited him back and the employee apologized sincerely. I believe the manager told Paul that the staff would have the issue of service animals and the ADA addressed at a meeting and gave Paul a generous gift card for he and Matthew to use for future visits. Paul considered the matter dealt with. Hopefully other establishments, whether restaurants, stores or other venues, will look carefully at their practices and make darn sure that their employees are well aware of what the ADA mandates, especially where service animals are concerned.

Its really not a big deal. If some people occasionally try to pass off a non-service as dog as a service dog, almost nobody cares.
He's a class act. Didn't react with anger by naming the restaurant and wanted to use it as a teaching moment.
Thank you King 5 to do this. Our society needs a little more education and much kindness!!! Please raise more awareness!

@@samudramanthan8645 Yeah, but sometimes you need to call people out. Just saying....
They need to be taught a lesson for what? Are you saying you know that they hired this employee knowing they would behave that way?
You know for a fact that when he went to the manager or owner, they refused to do anything?
Please explain what lesson they need to be taught? Based on how this place actually handled the situation.

He agreed so my friend didn't take legal action against his restaurant.

You’re a sad person
I am so sorry you and your guide dog were treated that poorly...p.s....Mr. Maples is for sure a VERY good boy...God bless...
While I get the employee just had someone earlier come in with a ‘service dog’ that went bad. Because it wasn’t one. They should NEVER take that out on the next person and state they don’t seem blind. Not all people with disabilities “seem” like they have it. There needs to be more education on white canes, guide dogs, etc. People just don't know anymore.
If it is a regular cane I can see why people are confused. She can use whatever tool she needs, but you also have to understand that people do not expect to see a regular cane painted white, and don't know what it is.
