I agree with the view of things being very strongly likely, than Guaranteed, especially in such a universe setting. The warp is standing to the side of this reality, once it interacts with this reality, it makes tethers into it. So it can greatly influence it to the point it’s difficult to change, but they don’t have absolute mastery over the materiel world. Hypothetically if you had a computer that could run every single possibility and extrapolate from this, physical interactions it makes in World and observe that of anything else in the observable universe it could have insanely accurate prediction, that boarder on the inevitable as things unfold. But in a reality that has the warp in it, polluted with God like beings that reach from somewhere else, interfering with potentialities, even such a machine could not make accurate predictions, when such creatures interfered without have a great understanding of these outside entities. It reminds me how in Star Wars tacticians had a horrible time estimating outcomes when facing Jedi. Without deeper interaction or understanding of force wields, calculations of Mundane interactions just didn’t add up when somebody manipulated the force.
This whole subject is actually made me wonder about how true names could work. Which is part of the time in which the entities came into being and what emotion and words it could have been connected with at that time. Since words only have meaning cause of a sentient creatures Intellectually and emotionally connect certain words and concepts to those sounds. Demons themselves could be attached to those words those names, concepts from the time that they were coalescing as an entity. So even a dead language still holds power over them, cause their very conception is tied to those events during that time. So even though they are not in the material world they are still directly tied and came from it conceptually and emotionally. Those words and concepts are a fulcrum to them and their origin point in this reality. Because it must’ve happened at some point, the point when it came into being in conceptually and emotionally is it’s weak spot. Makes the whole problem is with the recordkeeping even more insidious since you have such a hard time starting and looking at trends cultures and concepts that have long since passed. Knowledge that could be Key to understanding with those of the past, and what Spawned from their zeitgeists.
On the subject of determinism in our universe due to the inherent random nature of quantum mechanics and in turn reality means that even if with perfect knowledge the future cannot be predicted. This is where the phrase god doesn’t play dice with the universe comes in. Because evidently he does. Because of this in my opinion determinism is a must point as it adds up to nothing the future is not set. While each person should choose the best choice with their current knowledge plus experience. This is still undeterminable So In conclusion free will is real if u want it to be. Kind of
I was going to complain that there's still no last video 3 years later but then I realized it probably already exists and I just haven't found it in the warp yet.
The birth of the 6th Chaos God, Santa Claus? He possesses one individual a year to manifest toys and merriment for all the good Imperial children. Legend says he lives somewhere on Fenris and the Space Wolves have as of yet not been able to destroy or bind him, but hes basically harmless so they stopped trying.
An other causal loop is House Khymere's betrayal of the Imperium, from the 8th Edition Chaos Knights Codex. They were attacked by the Imperium while still loyal because of this they were driven into the Great Rift only to appear earlier in time, now loyal to Chaos, they then took revenge on the Imperium. This attack on the Imperium is the reason why they were attacked in the first place. It's a causal loop of self betrayal and recent lore, though admittedly from only one source
17:48 So time is thus: Everything is happening at literally the same time according to the warp. To its denizens there is no difference between past and present, they can move along the t-axis as they please and observe it at every point the same way we'd observe a flat field. They exist at all times, but only do so once an event has occurred to cause the sentient races to spawn them in some way- such as the birth of Slaanesh. Slaanesh did not exist until that moment in the Galaxy, but after that moment she then existed at *all* moments but didn't change anything prior to her birth. Neat and simple.
Dude already?!!! I guess you mentioned it was in the works. I just finished part 3 past night. Looking forward to listening before I go to sleep tonight.

Leutin I love you decide to try and explain the Warp and Time in 40k and by now it sounds like you've got a degree in quantum physics. Thank you for your work and dedication, you helped pass this crazy year a bit quicker.
As a physics student myself, I really appreciate the amount of thought you put in the physical aspect and the implications of the warp and time. Great work!
The effort of making such in depth physics and philosophical content is what makes this channel top notch and my favourite in the hobby. Praise to thee and a merry Sanguinala to you!
Anybody else get a sense of Luetin going Jedi Master on us as he went into his final thoughts for this one? Sounded very similar to discussing how the Force surrounds us and penetrates us. Which the warp would definitely do, especially the more Slaanesh-y bits of it lol
My theory is that nobody ever leaves the Warp before they entered. Any perceptions of this are a result of the horribly inaccurate time-keeping in the setting. You leave one planet thinking it's M41.773 and pop out at your destination at M41.600... but it's most likely that one of those planets was simply off in their time-keeping by a wide margin. As for the ork Grizgutz, it's more likely that some weirdness in the Warp simply caused him to split into two identical entities and created enough confusion that he THOUGHT he traveled back in time, but actually didn't.
Goddamn Luetin, this series really was a masterpiece. Your dive into mind bending physics was the most satisfying bit of cosmic horror that I've experienced in years! You presented a complex narrative that was somehow both easy to follow and intricately supported by established lore. I'm blown away, sir.
This thread of the series started off a bit chaotic but as it’s been more distilled with time I think it is some of my favorite videos you’ve produced thus far in my watch of this channel, hope to see you returning to this topic periodically as you’re thoughts evolve as well as cannon shifts!
Speaking of time travel, i recommend you my favourite time travel theory, used in the anime Steinsgate. Where the cast can change past, jumping from one timeline to another but the interesting part is that some events determinate whole timelines, like nodes where closer timelines converges. Totally recommended
This series has been fascinating. It's like watching the scientific method at work with Luetin's opinion evolving as he learns more. I've loved this series and all content he makes. I typically put his stuff on and listen like an audiobook. Thank you for all the wonderful content and for shedding a few slivers of light into this immensely dark universe that I am still trying to understand.
Listening to this while painting a big unit of pox walkers….can’t say that I understood half of it, but was quite entertaining and kept my mind off my hands and aaaalllll those boils. Thanks for sharing, I look forward to many more lore vids like this.
The safety to keep from changing the universal past is addressed in M Theory: Sure, if you found a way to change the past, you could, but you would only create a shard/branch that would only impact you, no one else would see it and you would effectively be erased from the future in the main timeline. Because, in terms of energy expended, it would be FAR less "expensive" to only change what you alone can perceive.
I started watching these because I thought it could be interesting to learn about chaos gods. Ended up listening to all 4 videos over a couple days because the discussion and theories of time and the warp in a fantasy world actually inspired some ideas in my own writing. I appreciate the effort of these videos.
One simple description of extra dimensions around us that I heard is this: We generally consider a bed sheet to be practically 2-dimensional because of how thin and tightly woven it is, but to a bed mite, it would certainly be a 3-dimensional space, with every thread an obstacle to pass. In the same way, another dimension could exist in the same space, or "around" us, but we wouldn't be able to perceive it from our standpoint. It could be the other way around too, with 2-dimensional beings existing that wouldn't be able to reach us in 3-D space.
honestly the scariest part of all of this for me is the concept that it could've been vastly longer since the Horus Heresy than we think. Not 12 thousand years but 112... That thought, albeit unlikely, the mere possibility of it being the case sends a shiver down my spine.
This shines new light on Star Trek, with their use of star dates. By identifying positions of known stars/galaxies, you could get a more central timekeeping method. Obviously there would be error margins, but I'm not an astronomer so I don't know how large they would be.
Sir. I cannot thank you enough for not only your work on these episodes but everything to date. btw i am watching your ordered playlist, only got thus after hours of utterly amazing and fascinating content. I only got in to Warhammer 40K recently but the work you have done has crash coursed me in a way were i cannot get enough of the “lore”. As an engineer, physics nut and sci-if and fantasy nerds. You are ticking all the boxes mate. Will look out for you’re own works when you publish. Think i may enjoy them. Keep up the good work Luetin09. Don’t stop. Ever
The issue at hand seems to be a universe of physical laws expanded by un-physical property. So maybe it's an eternalist model where the static universe is modified, more like dragging a stick through a liquid rather then pouring more on top.
LT great video as always! Though I feel you missed possibly the best movie references/similarities to the Warp. Event Horizon. Literally. Mans first step through the warp without a gellar field.
This series is so much more interesting and better because you go into all the physics and your concepts of what scientific principles could actually apply to the void.
Extremely interesting as always, especially on the nature of the Warp. But I noticed a flaw in the idea of the "fixed past" where it would actively resist change. Because in order to stop whoever is trying to change the past, it has to enact other changes. In order to stop the character from phoning in your example, the past had to create a car accident that may not have happened before and to destroy a phone station. So the past is changing itself to prevent changes. The process is basically self-destructive.
The ideas around chrono protection are a very interesting and for me new concept. I always viewed traveling back in time as a resetting of the state of the universe back to that of a specific point in time, except yourself. That would of course need an unimaginable amount of energy, but would essentially "destroy" the present, cause of the resetting. In some way that would be still moving forward in time. A really simple analogy of that idea would be a ball rolling down the hill, you pick it up and place it at the exact same point on the hill and it rolls down again. As for traveling into the future I personally viewed it as taking yourself completely out of spacetime and entering it again on a point of choosing, leaving out the problem of navigation and to find a point in spacetime when our not within. Don't know if my imagination is a different view, working as a possibility within physics or just my imagination how that could work, still very fascinating how it's explained here
Time travel is an idea we humans like but we don´t really think it through. If we start simply going back 20 years just as a test and this was a long running program so we have an empty landing platform waiting with people watching. SO then you just need a machine that transports a body back in time. Now the sun is flying around the galaxy so we don´t have a good way to aim for were our place actually is. It is impossible for complex systems. This also means travelling to the future is impossible. If you take a short test trip in a near lightspeed ship you will then arrive back on Earth many hundreds of years after departure. It does not matter for 40K Orks make their reality which is a built in feature and the Warp and the Chaos gods are an elaborate commentary on our belief systems, much like the story of big E who burned down the last church to become a god.
Hey Luetin, merry christmas and here's a gift you've already received. In the lords of silence book, siege master vorx mentions how he has a time keeping device called a "Chronolattice". It is a device that instead of being forward in measurement it measures events procedurally instead of based on linear time, mentioning how it becomes more and more accurate as the end of time approaches. It is in the chapter during which he is on the plague planet in his home. You've probably already had it mentioned to you, but just in case not enough people here are representing papa nurgle's plague sons and their books, there is that. Ill find a page and edit this later just in case
You are absolutely by far the best lore UA-camr (regardless of topic d and d, lord of the rings, a song if ice and fire, 40k). No one else comes close. It's kind of absurd.
The question of time travel existing but having constraints reminded me of a short story which has a very nice perspective on timetravel that i think could potentially more or less work with a lot of 40k: Dennis E Taylor's Feedback.
5th time I am rewatching this - the level of attention to detail you give to Lore and the way you present it... you deserve more than what you get Luetin09. Hope this new 2021 brings you even more success and bring us more videos from you :D
What if the chaos gods only have as much power as is available in the time period they are "looking at" or manifesting in? So although they may be able to see the distant past, they don't have any power to do anything in that time period, because there is little to no warp energy for them to use.
Maybe if the chaos gods do see all of time, looking in from the warp, maybe only the emotionally tumultous times are intresting or visible to them, they might divide their attention in proportion to the emotional reading of any given period.
Absolutely brilliant. Your coverage of this topic strongly resembles the intuitive 'knowledge' one would get from a dose of psychedelics. That our world is merely a drop enveloped in a higher matrix of existence we are unable to comprehend in our every day 3D existence.
54:57 Don't forget the "subspace corridors" that the Ork Tellyporta's used to teleport an entire weaponized moon to the orbit of Terra during the third war for Armageddon.
Saying they are physicists who work in the area of quantum gravity downplays (not intentionally, just putting this out there for curious people), the obsession physicists have with quantum gravity. Many many physicists have lived and died, almost entirely dedicated to quantum gravity. It is one of the holy grails of modern physics, and have been for a very very long time m
Yeah, I mean, it's fascinating stuff, and I still really love Luetin as a lore youtuber obviously, great in every way, BUT.......... yeah, as a couple of others have already pointed out, the recent Necron book *The Infinite and the Divine* completely disproves this whole hypothesis of "chrono-protection" within the context of the 40K verse, so......... yeah. Same with the previous video in the series, I feel like you kind of missed the whole *point* of Warp travel, the whole *advantage* of using the Warp for faster-than-light travel and communication is that things like Special and General Relativity don't apply or exist in the Warp, such that it effectively expands a single world's quote-unquote "Now Bubble" to basically encompass the entire galaxy. That's the whole *point* of it, which seems to just have been completely overlooked. Getting so narrowly hyperfocused in on individual trees you forget that the forest is even there.
If you're looking for a time travel story that is handled really well and also creatively and also like grimdark stuff I highly HIGHLY suggest the Legacy of Kain/Blood Omen video games. Some of the best writing around in general.
The more i see of the dark origin stories, the more i start to believe, the human race might have been designed by the Necron in the era of the war in the heavens. The creatures of the Old Ones had gotten really strong in using the warp in combat. So the Necron seeded creatures that would disturb the warp just by existing, making it unsafe to use in the future. Then they would sleep until the warp was raging and seal it up again.
@Luetin09 Hi, I know this video is old, but I think there is something you may have missed as a possibility of how to keep time. The positions of most stars are known, along with their trajectories, and those of planets orbiting them. If we know the positions of the stars at a given time as seen on Terra, then we should also be able to know how the stars would appear at the same time when viewed from another position within the galaxy while taking into account the the different distances from the observation point(s) to the celestial bodies in question. This could form the basis for a galactic standard of time. This is something that we do in the real world. Computer models of the galaxy exist where we know the positions of the stars relative to each other at a given time. These same models allow us to see what the position of stars appear to be from any given perspective at any given time. I can elaborate further but I think you get it…

Another mention of backwards time travel through the warp, from the 8th Edition Chaos Knights Codex: After the Great Rift emerged, House Khymere started attacking the Imperium with chaos tainted Knights and were declared heretics. When their homeworld was attacked, the nobles, seemingly uncorrupted, offered no resistance, but fled into the warp.
My headcanon is the multiverse theory with all verses intersecting with the same immaterium. This explains why Slannesh exists in fantasy, and why when you "see the future" via the warp it is just a possibility because you may be seein the future of a near reality.
Just finished my Sol Invictus lunch, now to chill to Luetin. Thanks :) These would make great podcasts. I enjoy this content the most because the research is phenomenal - best 40K channel. Happy Sol Invictus everyone :)
Consensual Reality: we live in the future, remember the past, the present is when reality's fixed. Much like Shroediger's cat, tis in flux until observed. Creatures of Chaos, ignore time so reality is not fixed for them. Travel into the past and affect change, then the timeline fractures. and the observer ends up on the alternate thread. This is how multiple realities\universes are created. That's why in one verse Orcs are "regular" creatures that eat fungi, and another they ARE fungi. One thing I always loved about Warhammer and 40K, is that when asked "Which reality are you in?" the answer is always "Yes" Great series Luetin, tonnes of fun and lore expansion. Cheers mate.

Makes the whole problem is with the recordkeeping even more insidious since you have such a hard time starting and looking at trends cultures and concepts that have long since passed. Knowledge that could be Key to understanding with those of the past, and what Spawned from their zeitgeists.
Very well said
On the subject of determinism in our universe due to the inherent random nature of quantum mechanics and in turn reality means that even if with perfect knowledge the future cannot be predicted. This is where the phrase god doesn’t play dice with the universe comes in. Because evidently he does. Because of this in my opinion determinism is a must point as it adds up to nothing the future is not set. While each person should choose the best choice with their current knowledge plus experience. This is still undeterminable
So In conclusion free will is real if u want it to be. Kind of
I was going to complain that there's still no last video 3 years later but then I realized it probably already exists and I just haven't found it in the warp yet.
Merry Christmas!!! Perfect present!
"Orks are their own thing" I love that
Not even Luetin wants to bother using quantum physics to explain the Orks. xD

So time is thus: Everything is happening at literally the same time according to the warp.

I'm not going to be able to listen to this before bed, but thank you in advance Loremaster for the bounty you have provided us this most festive of days!

Great work!
Your videos on 40k lore are very in depth Luetin, this one was spectacularly done.
The effort of making such in depth physics and philosophical content is what makes this channel top notch and my favourite in the hobby. Praise to thee and a merry Sanguinala to you!
Ahh the perfect Christmas gift. Thanks Santa Luetin!
ho ho ho
You are one of the best channels on UA-cam....truly.
Merry Christmas to everyone.
Godspeed for 2021
Heya, 2021 wasn’t all that great. Wanna try again for next year?
@@Streken7 ...um yeah.....let's see how it goes.
Time is..
"A big ball of wibbly wobbly, timey wimey stuff"

This thread of the series started off a bit chaotic but as it’s been more distilled with time I think it is some of my favorite videos you’ve produced thus far in my watch of this channel, hope to see you returning to this topic periodically as you’re thoughts evolve as well as cannon shifts!
now that changes my perception on why chaos gods call all of their own actions, ''A Great Game''
Speaking of time travel, i recommend you my favourite time travel theory, used in the anime Steinsgate. Where the cast can change past, jumping from one timeline to another but the interesting part is that some events determinate whole timelines, like nodes where closer timelines converges. Totally recommended
Wish we had more 40k narrators like you Luetin09 🏆. Thanks and Merry Christmas from Canada!
Imagine being a primaris sent back 1000 years you know the inquisition would have a field day
The safety to keep from changing the universal past is addressed in M Theory: Sure, if you found a way to change the past, you could, but you would only create a shard/branch that would only impact you, no one else would see it and you would effectively be erased from the future in the main timeline.

Listening to all of these in one day has been a trip. Keep up the good work dude!
LT great video as always! Though I feel you missed possibly the best movie references/similarities to the Warp.
Event Horizon.
Literally. Mans first step through the warp without a gellar field.
This subject is maddening. Tzeench has a grasp on you and you're spiraling towards heresy!
Merry Christmas Luetin!
May the manny blessings of the God-Emperor fall upon you in 2021
This series is so much more interesting and better because you go into all the physics and your concepts of what scientific principles could actually apply to the void.
WOO! MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYONE!
Apparently, the Emperor even knows about Christmas. I didn't know imperium plebs got presents... yet here is this masterpiece.
Dude I never could have nor would have imagined learning so much from such a seemingly frivolous topic. Nicely done sir and thank you.
This is not sci-fi on a new level, this is sci-fi in a new dimension.
You are absolutely by far the best lore UA-camr (regardless of topic d and d, lord of the rings, a song if ice and fire, 40k).
No one else comes close. It's kind of absurd.
What a great present for Xmas, Merry Christmas from NZ Leutin09
ngl this series is the most fascinating look at Warhammer 40k lore I have ever seen. Also the music choices you made in these videos are excellent
Well, the feeling of things being meaningless is that of someone wanting control, when it really is means Inevitable.
Leutin09 is like the Isaac Arthur of 40k. Phenomenal content. Happy Candlemas everyone.
I'm so early the ordo hereticus hasn't arrived yet
The question of time travel existing but having constraints reminded me of a short story which has a very nice perspective on timetravel that i think could potentially more or less work with a lot of 40k: Dennis E Taylor's Feedback.
The irony just dawned on me, og waited almost a year to post a video about time
5th time I am rewatching this - the level of attention to detail you give to Lore and the way you present it... you deserve more than what you get Luetin09. Hope this new 2021 brings you even more success and bring us more videos from you :D
Holy shit Christmas was never been this gud woho best gift ever

Leutin your intelligence is amazing . Plus 40k adds for really deep thinking topics and entertainment.
You have no idea how happy hearing the sound of your intro makes me. You're one of the best. Cheers mate!
First time here this early should be a good video :) merry xmas

Music at the end of this vid, same as the one that kicked off the Dominion of Chaos vid. So damn epic Luetin! Friggin chills.

One thing I always loved about Warhammer and 40K, is that when asked "Which reality are you in?" the answer is always "Yes"
Great series Luetin, tonnes of fun and lore expansion. Cheers mate.
