This is so cool - and you're right, it's like an heirloom. I saw someone do a flip thru of their 5-year Hobonich, 3 years in, and it was so interesting to see, but the pages actually started bursting from the seams! I want to start one but don't know if I could keep up for 5 whole years 🙃Thanks for sharing.
I hear you! A 5 year commitment seems a extraordinary and I wonder if my entries will just cover the same stuff over and over. Hopefully in five years it'll be something worth reading.
Enjoyed hearing your thoughts on the pros and cons here, thank you! I am in Tokyo and have the 10-year version to record my 5th decade. :) I'm always trying to figure out what to record each day that will be the most "interesting" to look back on...news, reactions, weather, emotions. Fun to experiment, I think. Would love an update on your thoughts as you fill in your second year! Cheers!
Thank you for stopping by and for sharing! I didn't even realize they had a 10 year! Only the 3 and 5 Year diaries are advertised where I live. I can only imagine how incredible that will be. Thank you also for the idea to do a recap video after the first year. Hadn't even thought about that! Will do! It's interesting lately trying out figure out what to write. My family has settled into a 'dog days of Summer' routine and so each day almost looks the same. Writing in this journal has forced me to look for and capture those little moments. Warm wishes and have a wonderful day
Hello! I started the Five Year Hobonichi book this year and I love it. It has 9/10 lines for each day and the book lays open flat. I'm really enjoying it . Nice video.
Thanks for sharing!! I've heard a lot about the Hobonichi books since starting this channel. I don't have access to it in any of my nearby stationery stores, however I will be ordering one after my five year journey is over with the Midori. Have a wonderful day!
Great review! I’m 2 years into my 3-year and 1 year into my 5-year. My 3-year is a personal diary/memory keeper and the 5-year is an abbreviated weather/garden journal to help me track notable seasonal changes YoY. I must say the most gratifying thing about these journals and what has kept me motivated is completing that first year! Reading previous year’s entries each day has been so rewarding. Thanks for sharing!
That is awesome! I would never have thought of a weather/garden journal idea. As I'm approaching finishing up my first year I'm suddenly wondering if when I look back at it whether I'll just have repeating mundane thoughts i.e. did laundry, etc. lol. Cheers!
I just found your channel and am enjoying your videos. I got the 5-year Midori diary last fall and am having fun discovering ways to use it. I see that you are an artist. I add small sketches to blank days - seasonal drawings, sketches of places and friends. it's fun to practice quick drawings. I'm thinking of adding short poems. Have you found other things to add to your diary? I hope you post a diary update. Thanks for sharing your love for stationery!
Hi Esther, thanks for stopping by and your kind feedback. You know, I've kept it pretty straight forward with writing about my day but love your ideas of sketches and poems. The only one extraneous add to the journal has been a clothing sticker only because it was the first time I got to go back to a store after the lockdowns lifted. I'll take you up on a diary update. Warm wishes and I hope you have a wonderful day!
Hi! Are you still using this diary? If so, is it holding up still? I'm soon finished with my Leuchtturm 5 year diary and though I enjoyed using it very much, I want to switch things up.
Greetings from Australia. Interesting video. I will be getting one soon to start in the new year. Are you going to use one ink for the whole year every year?
Hey @Scouzeboy! Thanks for stopping by. I debated on sticking with the one ink for a whole year but eventually decided I was getting bored with that so I started switching it up. Maybe just two I'll stick with the one next year... Have a great day and good luck with your fresh start in the new year.
You know, the hobnichi wasn't available close to me at the time I purchased this. I do like the flexibility and added space presented in the hobonichi. In three years (at the time of this comment) I'll have this Midori wrapped up and will try the Hobo next. Do you have both - what are your thoughts?
You know, I'm not sure. What I will say is that it feels like it is different weight of paper. The sheen from my ink in the diary is a little bit more subdued. At the same time it looks like it's the same off white color. I find the A5 has a bit more "toothier" paper. The diary feels a little smoother. That probably doesn't help but great question none the less.

That's so cool, I can only imagine what it would feel like to finish writing in it and thinking how fast the 5 years went by. Again great review 👍
Thank you sir. Much appreciated. I'll have to do a five year review of the five year diary 😂

I wanted to know if the paper was fountain pen friendly and this was just the info I needed. Thanks a bunch!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for stopping by!
I have the same book. I am enjoying filling it out each evening.
Thanks for stopping by and sharing!

Hi there, yes I am. I'll talk about it in my next VLOG that I'll post in a couple of days. Thanks for asking!
@@StationeryAt4 oh how nice! I'll be watching then :)
Greetings from Australia.

Do you like the hibonichi 5 year one better ? This one i run out of space sometimes.

My pleasure. Glad it helped. Take care and have a wonderful day!
how many days do each month have? what about the leap year with an extra day?
Hi there, sorry for the late reply on this. Most of them have 31 pages per month. The leap year has an extra page for the 29th. Hope that helps!
Is it MD paper as well? Same paper as with the Midori a5?

Even with Japanese, it's not a lot of space🤭
lol, good to know! Thanks for sharing.
cool concept,
poor execution.
remove the cover.
Haha. One of my earlier videos. Thank you for the feedback. I'll have an updated version of this video soon. Take care and have a wonderful day!
