Thank you so much for this video! The Toyota dealer had quoted me a price of $3,166 to tear apart the dash to replace the heating/cooling box (about $1k in labor and $2k in parts) on my 2013 Camry Hybrid. I tried to explain to them about your video, but the $3k fix was their final answer. So, I picked up my car from the dealer, stopped by Auto Zone as someone else recommended in response to this video, and had my car fixed in less than half an hour. Total cost was less than $50. Needless to say, I probably won't be servicing my cars at that dealer any longer.
I’m glad you were able to fix it yourself and save all that money! I can’t believe they weren’t willing to at least see if this was the issue before quoting such a high price! Thank you for watching and please give the video a thumbs up if you haven’t already! Thank you!
Yup. I needed rollers for my minivan ( the small plastic wheels wore off ). Dealer wanted 5,000$ ! hahahahahaha. about 90$ for BOTH doors, some UA-cam videos. & About 30 mins of actual physical work , DONE ! perfect. this is after the wife said they are " honest "
Omg, i’m in this exact same position. I just got off the phone with my dealership earlier and they told me the exact same thing you just said. They wanted just under three grand to do all the work. I will definitely be doing this myself. Thanks!
Thank you for inspiring me to attempt this fix. I managed to get the gears lined up on the first attempt by swinging the gear all the way up before installing the new actuator. The entire process took 30 minutes total. 5 minutes gathering the courage to attempt, 5 minutes for the actual work, and 20 looking for the screw I dropped (twice!).
Thats great, I’m glad you were able to fix the issue yourself with the help of my video! Thank you for watching and please consider giving the video a thumbs up if you haven’t already! Thank you!
Thank you! This was happening to my 2012 Highlander....45 sec delay in controls and no heat. $53 and a little contortionism to get it in there and aligned....and it's done! Saved me a $125 to just diagnose... then I'm sure w parts and labor it'd be a $300+ bill. I'm a 57 yr old woman. You made it simple. Thanks!!!

So the dealership charges around $2500 for this repair. I just had the same symptoms but on my passenger side of my 2012 sienna XLE. The AC controls are unresponsive for the first minute or so after turning the car on and I only get cool air out of the driver side and searing hot air out of the passenger side. I took my van to the dealership just to pay for them to diagnose the problem with all intentions of replacing the passenger-side server myself, but, when they called me back, they mentioned that the entire dashboard needed to be taken apart, some pieces of an evaporator coil needed to be moved, and that the refrigerant needed to be recharged after the work. So now I’m scouring the web to figure out whether or not I can actually do this myself or if I need to actually pay them to do it
Thank you very much for the video. We were having this same problem with our 2014 Sienna XLE. I watched the video, ordered the part listed in the description, and replaced it within 10 minutes. Works perfectly now.
Were you having this problem on the passenger side or the driver side? I have the same exact symptoms in the video but my issues with the passenger side and if you read my comment above, you’ll see that the dealership quoted me a pretty exorbitant amount of money. Thank you for this video!!! Your diagnoses helped a ton. The video of the replacement was spot on. Was able to replace mine and saved 2K the dealer wanted to charge to fix. Nice cold AC!!
I had to order mine right through a dealership.. went to several big box car parts stores. & No fit. If you NEED heat / AC right now. You can remove it & manually turn the wheel on the car side, to open the door . Until you get your part 🎉
Hi ... nice video I have this delay problem on my 2011 Camry. When it comes on after 45 sec. the heat works but the ac only blows cold out the drivers side and the air( warm only) coming from the passenger side is weak. Did your front defrost light stop blinking and did the delay go away after replacing the damper actuator?
Thanks for letting us know its an identical setup on your Avalon, this helps others with the same problem know that it's a similar process. Thank you for watching! I'm glad it was helpful, please consider giving the video a thumbs up if you haven't already! Thank you!
This video was extremely helpful! I have a 2010 Highlander... that has an identical setup. AutoZone had an actuator with a lifetime warranty for $49.00. Thank you!
That’s great! I’m glad you were able to fix the issue! Thank you for watching and please consider giving the video a thumbs up if you haven’t already. Thank you!
I ordered the part with your affiliate link but they sent the wrong part. I found the correct one by searching. Both photos show the same part you showed. Not sure you can fix the link since the photo does look correct. Thanks again for the detailed video, hope to the the correct part tomorrow and fix my daughter's Sienna
I hope that you are still monitoring this. I have a combination of issues that are referenced below in some of the comments. There is a 45 second delay for me to be able to control the air system. After that, it will come on at 75 degrees and work but the air will only blow out of the main dash vents. Is this the same issue and fix or is there another fix that you can describe and have a video of?
I have the same problem on my 2010 Venza except I have hot air on the driver side and not on the passenger side. I know there is an actuator on both sides but does the passenger side actuator have anything to do with the delay in the controls? Or does just the driver side control that? Hopefully this makes sense!
Hi Sir, My car (Camry 2012 LE 2.5) AC compressor did not engage. I mistakenly shortcut two pins of the Fan relay plug and now car fan does not work and the AC panel security light just blinks and the rest of the lights do not come on. I am not sure what part of my car is damaged. I also tested another AC panel to check if my AC panel is burnt out or not but also with a new AC panel I get no light on AC panel but the blinking security light. You have any opinion on which part may have been damaged and requires to be replaced?
Having a similar issue on 2015 highlander that was noticed when controls don't come on right away. Driver and passenger side vents are blowing and changing temp, but rear is staying cold. This actuator you replaced is turning when temp is changed, so I guess there is another actuator assembly located somewhere else for the rear, but can't find any reference to help me locate it?
I have a question. I thought this was the problem with my 2012 Rav4 and my brother got the part to fix it, but it turns out it wasn't the problem at all. Behind the dash, there is a box like thing for the dual climate control, the box has plastic sheet like things that move up and down when you change heat/AC settings. The passenger side works fine, but when you try to adjust drivers side, you can hear noise and it stays on hot. We realized the plastic partition thing that moves up and down to direct the heat came loose and got all crumpled which is why my drivers side won't work. Do you know what the part is called or if it's repairable? I called my local dealership and they want like $2200 for the part, not including installation!! Any suggestions for this?
I have a similar problem driver side cold, passenger side hot air blown out. Should I replace blend door motor on the RIGHT side and the delay 45 seconds would be gone? I know it is real hard to remove the part on the right side of Highlander 2010. I still can do that BUT only 1 question is it fixed the hot side and no delay start AC? Please give me an advice Thanks so much.
I believe that is the blend door actuator. Whichever side isn’t changing when you change from cold to hot would most likely be the culprit! Thank you for watching, hopefully this helps!
Hola gracias por el video Mi sienna tiene ese problema El lado del pasajero no calienta. Funciona el calefactor en todo el carro excepto en el lado del pasajero
Could this be the same problem for my 2015 Toyota Prius. I only get cold air when stationary and only using the battery. Air becomes hot when the engine starts running.
I have a 2008 toyota sequoia and the passenger side stays warm , what is the part that needs to be replaced and would you know where it is located, I would appreciate it if you could let me know,Thanks
I have the delay issue, but i watched the actuator and it does move. So, you said yours wouldn't change from cold to hot, it just stayed cold. Mine delays, but then it fully functions. Did yours not function at all in changing the temp?
Correct, mine did not function while changing the temp. My thought is that your system is malfunctioning at possibly another one of the actuators and is therefore delaying.
This definitely could be the issue, just double check the part numbers for your vehicle. Thank you for watching and please consider giving the video a thumbs up if you haven’t already!
Hi!, there is a right and left side?, because the one in the link from amazon says left main, we have a Sienna 2012 and it has a delayed start from de A/C, but in the passenger side the air doesn't come out as cold as the driver side... Thank you for sharing. Great video!!
Not sure exactly why it says left side...this is the blend door actuator that blends hot/cold to get the temperature needed. If your Sienna is not the same left and right side double check that you have the temperature synced on both sides.
@@5MinuteFixit Hi!, thank you for answering. It is synchronized in both sides. But my doubt is, you know is there is a left and right side in this blend door actuator?
There is only one side for the blend door actuator it is just behind and below the shifter, when you start up the car if it doesn’t move this is most likely the problem. Damper Actuator: amzn.to/30w8xxT
I have the same issue on the passenger side in my 2012 sienna. They quoted me over $2500 to fix it but I’ve seen several videos on UA-cam here that show is a pretty easy process. Were you able to get this fixed on your passenger side?
Our 2014 Sienna has the delay. I went and watched the actuator when the HVAC was finally on, and it does work I can see it moving. Is it the same problem?
My actuator was not moving even after the HVAC was on. You may have another issue with your system or it could be one of the other actuators. I believe there are at least 3 actuators in the system. I would start there. Thank you for watching!
ive got a 2011 Toyota sienna, when i turn on the AC, i get hot air from the 2nd vent from the passenger side, is this normal operation, or am i low on refrigerant?
Yes, the part linked in the description should work, compatibility for a 2014 Sienna is listed in the product description. Hopefully this helps! Thank you for watching and please consider giving the video a thumbs up if you haven’t already! Thank you!
2014 Toyota Corolla,. I have no heat. Can have ac & air. gears / power if air work fine, fluids are fine, it's been maintenance all the time. I'll give this a try. Thanks
I’m glad you were able to fix the issue with the help of my video! Thank you for watching and please consider giving the video a thumbs up if you haven’t already! Thank you!
In your video it sounds like you're saying that the climate control knobs are not working at all. That they're not responding to any input. That's what's happening to mine. But in your fix it looks more like you're talking about a mechanical part that changes the temperature, the blend doors. I was curious if you could clarify if your control knobs are actually responding to input or not?
The climate control system wouldn’t respond for close to a minute after starting the vehicle, you could turn the temp knob or and press the fan button speed selector with no response. Then after that ~min the control knobs would function on the screen but it was stuck on either heat or cold blowing air (I can’t remember at the moment which it was stuck on) Hopefully this helps!
@@5MinuteFixit Ok. Thanks. I have seen several videos about delayed start. Mine never starts at all no response from the controls or the steering wheel controls. The only knob that responds is the one that selects where the air goes, feet vs head, etc. And the heated seat wheels. . I tried a control panel from another vehicle. Same thing. So it's not the control panel. So far it seems like all the fuses are okay. I'm not sure if the parts shown in your video will make any difference but I'm willing to try that. I'm just not sure what to do next.
Question... My problem is the air does not divert to the proper location selected, the defrost comes out the dash vents. Is this the same/only actuator or is there another for that problem. Temperature is properly controlled. Thanks in advance
That is another actuator. This one is the blend door that adjusts the blend to get the correct temperature setting. Hopefully this helps, thank you for watching!
I have an issue with the passenger side air being hot and the driver's side cold. I assume there is a similar one on the passenger side - it is as easy to replace? I was told the passenger side is super hard and involves hours of labor
I’ve got the same issue on a 2012 sienna. Did you ever figure out how to get it fixed? I got a $2500 quote from the dealership and I’d really like to try and do it myself if I can.
I would get under the dash to see if your system had this blend door. If you do see if it is functioning correctly. If not that probably is the issue. Thank you for watching! Hopefully this helps!
The white gear on the new actuator and the white gear on the hvac door. I know this is still vague but it will make sense when you get under the dashboard and see it. Thank you for watching!
Thank you for watching! If you found this video helpful please consider giving it a thumbs up if you haven't already. Thanks again and let us know how the repair went if you end up doing it yourself!
Did it work for you? Or is there a fuse reset process? If that makes any sense.. I've got a toyota harrier 2015 and I mistakenly turned up the heat now it won't get cold on the driver's side
Good day 5 min-fix..I thought that was my car.lol I have the Toyota Venza 2012 the setup look almost the same with the gear shift right there next to the steering wheel. I am having this problem right now. I noticed over the summer when I drove the car and have it Park go into the store come back out turn the car back on the AC will never turn on it takes a about 45 secs are more before it kicks on now back. We're getting into fall it's getting cold outside last night I tried to turn on the heat one side is blowing warm air and the left side is blowing cold air can this be the problem and also if I bought this part with this work for my venza 2012 Thanks
@@5MinuteFixit thank you I find this model is this the same I'm getting ready to purchase please let me know.☺️ www.amazon.com/dp/B07DVML8VS/ref=cm_sw_r_wa_apa_i_Ha6zFbR4GDMC3
@@mr2cqql if you have a Toyota venza it's very easy to change 5 minutes it's going to be under the dashboard the steering wheel on the left hand side you have to lay down it's very uncomfortable driver side get a flashlight and you will see the dual activator you can hear it clicking noise just not working properly. I believe it's three screws to remove it. Please make sure the gears are lined up back with the mechanism there's a big white gear that turns it needs to lock into that what that does is open and close like a flap on the venza to control the air flow when I install it the first time I didn't fix it keep messing with it until I got it.. what 5 minutes say it's the same part for Sienna I have a 2009. I went to O'Reilly Auto store and it was $163 I took it out because I live in a warm state. I really don't need it at this point but I will be replacing it soon.. Best of luck friend..😊
Do you know if this same procedure applies to the passenger side? The dealership quoted me over $2500 to replace the passenger side servo on my 2012 Sienna and they said you have to take the entire dashboard apart, but I’ve seen several other videos similar to yours that show the replacement is as simple as replacing the driver side where you’re just swapping out the servo controller and that’s it.
It seems as though the HVAC system goes through a quick “check” of the whole system and if the door isn’t functioning correctly it trys a few times then defaults running without the door functioning.
I have a 2011 camry XLE with auto climate control and my front defrost light blinks for 45 sec. before system goes on, then I only get strong heat and ac from all the drivers side vent's. Passenger side is weak. Do you have any of these issues? Was the blend door actuator replaced?
It fixed it! My tundra is a little newer so it didn't fit the exact same way. But same symptoms. Thanks I thought I was going to have to take a lot more stuff apart.

Not sure you can fix the link since the photo does look correct. Thanks again for the detailed video, hope to the the correct part tomorrow and fix my daughter's Sienna
Thank you for the heads up, I’ll look into this!
Im having a very similar issue on a 2013 rav4 but the AC direction is also stuck on the feet. Would this also correct that issue?
I hope that you are still monitoring this. I have a combination of issues that are referenced below in some of the comments. There is a 45 second delay for me to be able to control the air system. After that, it will come on at 75 degrees and work but the air will only blow out of the main dash vents. Is this the same issue and fix or is there another fix that you can describe and have a video of?
There are a couple of actuators on these systems one blends the hot and cold and the other sends it to vents or floor or both. So it could be both.
I have the same problem on my 2010 Venza except I have hot air on the driver side and not on the passenger side. I know there is an actuator on both sides but does the passenger side actuator have anything to do with the delay in the controls? Or does just the driver side control that? Hopefully this makes sense!
It most definitely is the passenger side actuator, hopefully this helps!
Do you know where the blend door actuator is for the 5th gen 4Runners by any chance? Thank you for your time!
I have a 5th Gen 4runner as well, I will look around today and report back if I find it. Thank you for watching!
Thank you so much! I started taking apart the passenger side apart and I might have found it. Will attempt to try again this weekend!
Yes there most likely is another actuator for the rear zone. Maybe a call to a dealership will to confirm this is the case. Thank you for watching!
Any suggestions for this?
this is the part that is broken on mine :(

I have a similar problem driver side cold, passenger side hot air blown out. Should I replace blend door motor on the RIGHT side and the delay 45 seconds would be gone? I know it is real hard to remove the part on the right side of Highlander 2010. I still can do that BUT only 1 question is it fixed the hot side and no delay start AC? Please give me an advice Thanks so much.
I believe that is the blend door actuator. Whichever side isn’t changing when you change from cold to hot would most likely be the culprit! Thank you for watching, hopefully this helps!
THANK YOU for sharing!!!
Thank you for watching, I’m glad it was helpful!
Would this have anything to do with my ac not blowing on the front it only blows to the windshield and my feet?
I'm having the same issue on a 2013 rav4. By any chance, did you replace and correct the issue?
Do u have any idea about the same issue for land cruiser 2013 please?!
This definitely could be the issue, just double check the part numbers for your vehicle. Thank you for watching and please consider giving the video a thumbs up if you haven’t already!
Did that fix the delay in heat control system?
Yes this fixed my delay. Thank you for watching.
@@5MinuteFixit thanks
@@5MinuteFixit Oh ok, thank you very much for the information!, this video is really helpful. Greetings!!
Will this part work on a 2014 Toyota Sienna? My web searches are turning up $100+ :(
Yes, the part linked in the description should work, compatibility for a 2014 Sienna is listed in the product description.
Thanks
Hopefully this helps! Thank you for watching!
Looks like the part is much harder to replace on the 2014 Corolla. Another video I saw about the Corolla said the labor would be about $300.00.
@@PoconoPCDoctor ...... for the dealership. I'd say that's about right.. 1 MAYBE 2 hours in all. I'm guessing 100+$ hr for dealerships. ..
@@PoconoPCDoctor believe a had to use a screw but & a crescent wrench .. because a normal screw. Driver wouldn't fit.
@@pablovagnor I just got a $1200.00 quote from a guy I have been using. He is a Toyota certified tech, but this quote was disappointing.
Same problem. Thanks! 🙏
I’m glad you were able to fix the issue with the help of my video! Thank you for watching and please consider giving the video a thumbs up if you haven’t already! Thank you!
So is the actuator behind the gas pedal because I have a Toyota Corolla 2014 LE and I can't seem to find it
Passenger side
Thanks great help
Thank you for watching, I’m glad it was helpful! Please consider giving he video a thumbs up if you haven’t already! Thank you!
Hi I have 2014 sienna base model no climate control same issue does this fix apply to my vehicle? Thx
I would get under the dash to see if your system had this blend door. If you do see if it is functioning correctly. If not that probably is the issue. Thank you for watching! Hopefully this helps!
Which two gears need to be aligned up? I have watched the video a few times but I still didn't see the detail. thx
The white gear on the new actuator and the white gear on the hvac door. I know this is still vague but it will make sense when you get under the dashboard and see it. Thank you for watching!
Exactly what my Venza is getting wrong, thanks!
Thanks!
Thank you for watching and please consider giving the video a thumbs up if you haven’t already! Thank you!
@@5MinuteFixit already did! 👍
This part is the same for your Venza and the placement of it should be similar. Good luck with the repair and let us know how it goes!
@@5MinuteFixit thank you I find this model is this the same I'm getting ready to purchase please let me know.☺️ www.amazon.com/dp/B07DVML8VS/ref=cm_sw_r_wa_apa_i_Ha6zFbR4GDMC3
@@Mikelaury_world I have the same problem with my 2010 venza, did you fix yours? how easy is to swap it out? Thank you
@@mr2cqql if you have a Toyota venza it's very easy to change 5 minutes it's going to be under the dashboard the steering wheel on the left hand side you have to lay down it's very uncomfortable driver side get a flashlight and you will see the dual activator you can hear it clicking noise just not working properly.
Is this why my defroster flashing for 30 seconds? 2012 Toyota Avalon
Was the part a good buy?
Jose Galvan yes so far it has been working well!
What model is your toyota?
It’s a 2012 Sienna.
What's the name of the part. Because I'm having the same problem
Damper Actuator: amzn.to/30w8xxT
Why would a Simple blend door, cause a delay in the system. ?
It seems as though the HVAC system goes through a quick “check” of the whole system and if the door isn’t functioning correctly it trys a few times then defaults running without the door functioning.
Pls help me, i put back to cold 18-25 temperature but the air comes out is still hot.
Did you fix it ?
@@pablovagnor yes, removing the terminal of the battery works for me. It reset and back to normal.
how the hell did you guys fit under the steering wheel?! i'm not even big at all
It is tough and there is no good angle...lol
Hi bro i seen your video cause i have the same problem but its on a 2012 camry
Same here and I couldn't find it.
I have a 2011 camry XLE with auto climate control and my front defrost light blinks for 45 sec. before system goes on, then I only get strong heat and ac from all the drivers side vent's. Passenger side is weak. Do you have any of these issues? Was the blend door actuator replaced?
Uh I was looking for the Mode Actuator...
No dash removal ?!?
Not needed for this fix.
you did not show how to get to it, where are the screws at...etc.
Did you fix it ?
I pray this is the fix
Let us know how it goes, I hope it solves your issue!
It fixed it! My tundra is a little newer so it didn't fit the exact same way. But same symptoms. Thanks I thought I was going to have to take a lot more stuff apart.
