I don’t know why people are so hard on the price. I’m not even an electrician and mid way through doing my L2 electrical installation and I bought one of these at the start of my course in March. Although never used it and won’t get the chance to use it for a few more years. STILL, when the opportunity arises I know I’ll have the best (my opinion) MFT tester on the market. Just need to figure out what I’m doing with it.
The X1 looks a fantastic bit of kit however, I personally think it is such a shame that Megger decided not to implement the intended onboard memory feature that would allow you to store results on the instrument for later review or download. Because of this there is also no the option to download results to anything other than cert suite, that whilst another great product does tie you to a subscription. Fingers crossed they will add the onboard memory feature (as the machine is able to support it) in a future update as well as being able to download the memory as a csv or similar file. It is to much of a high end machine to be missing these couple of basic features.
From one of my CPD sessions with NIC EIC I believe X2 is usually a manufacturer test . This tester looks fantastic. Shame I had to by a MFT 1741 in lockdown because my old set was time X .
Not really bothered if my MFT is on trend, as long as it is within calibration and actually works. For me personally, I think that megger is to expensive.
Thanks for the video it really does look cool, but way too expensive at £1600. Think I'd get an MFT 1741 at around £1000 and stick with the NICEIC online certs...You didnt show what the megger certs looked like, apart from a very quick glimpse at the start.
Being the owner of an MFT1740, converted by Megger to the 1741+, (as well as having the Kewtech KT66DL) it is good to see that one of the negatives of the previous Megger MFTs of the cable sockets position has been addressed, moving the cable ports from the rear of the top, to the front of the top to prevent damaging the cable ports. My Megger had to go back twice for repair to the cable post circuit board and that was with me looking after it Personally, I think moving to rechargeable battery pack is a backward step. My 1741+ battery life was never an issue whereas the forums give a lot of negative comments on the battery and its battery life.... and obviously, the £1600 it costs to buy the X1! Thanks for the video though chaps.... can you keep it or do Megger want it back? 😜
I love how you show the top of the line stuff but how about the cheap gear as some of us are not well paid and choosing between this months food for our family or the megger we need to earn next months money, well,,
It's nice, but if you are going to splash that kind of money, the Metrel 3155 eurotester is still the Rolls-Royce of MFT's it really has it all. And it all works beautifully.
Not in the same price range really. I just paid ~ £1480 for the X1, I'd have been looking at ~ £2200 for Metrel. Paying 50% again on top of the Megger! Don't get me wrong, I'd love the Metrel and I'm sure it's the nuts, but it isn't comparable value by any stretch.
@asawyer2872 The Metrel really is worth the extra money it changed the way i work and has saved me many hours, i have tested with a friends X1, and it's a very good tester no doubt, the problem is apart from appearance and a few new things it is very much like the older megger MFT's. The real question should not be if the metrel 3155 is worth the extra money over the X1, the real question should be, is the X1 really worth the extra money over its older brothers? And to be honest, i dont think it is since you will still be testing in the same way, and it will take the same time and to use the autofill feature it still needs a support device, so you might as well enter it into Excel running on a tablet with a premade template useing the older MFT.
@stiaankruger2699 Tbh thanks to black friday the difference in cost between a 1741+ and the X1 was negligible. Odds are it won't, but if one day the user upgradable software might save me buying a new tester, then that difference has paid for itself 10 times over. I've no doubt the Metrel makes things easier, but that £700 difference has bought my safe isolation kit, a clamp meter and a few hand tools. If I had £2200 just for a tester I'd happily have gone for the metrel, but that is too rich for my tastes. It just isn't in the same price range by some margin!
@@KayElectrics someone also pointed out to me that i should not compare the X1 to the 3155 but rather to the 3152 eurotester if one then compare the price the metrel 3152 is much more competitive, it has less features than the 3155 but is on par with the X1 and in ways exeeds the it. I have not used the 3152 myself just the 3155 and the X1 but seeing videos of it the basic operation works exactly like 3155.
No it is not the ultimate tester as the boffins at Dover have extended the pre-start time when doing IR tests. Compare it to a 1552/1741 and you will see...
I like that it has rotary knobs rather than up and down buttons. It's a shame that Megger still haven't introduced a Fluke style hard storage box.
They used to do hard cases, my 1552 has one. Don't know if they make any for the 1700/1800 series, though.
I absolutely love the banter you have on this show and the jokey vibe you got going please never change it. Reminds me of old Top Gear!
How do you auto test ? I need a third hand to be able to hold all the probes and then hit test!
Would be better if it charged using USB-C.

That Megger X1 MFT does look great. Nice to see how it intergrates with the software on the Tablet.

Tester looks great but the software does not seem to save you anytime so what's the point?

We’ve featured a broad range of testers over the years inc some entry level models ua-cam.com/video/__6gT2CZ10M/v-deo.html
Completely agree with you on this
great video guys
Megger X1 - What's in the box?

Some static in the sound, is the recording mic wireless being interferred?
Do you do a days training on this EGGER?
Hope they’ve improved the leads, so they last & can actually grip something.
I wonder if they have fixed the common fault of loose connection over time on the test lead socket to the PCB on the 1700 models
@1:51 Is that a new kind of Lock Off Device on the grid switch?
Been debating whether I get this, Kewtechs KT66 or the MFT1741+
KT66 all day
Can't stand the colour they make Kewtech stuff in, makes me want to 🤮
Is it available in South Africa and how much

Please review solar IV curve testers.
Coming soon
Took more time to set it up.
I'll stick to my old school mft megger 1552 I think😊
That and the 1741 isn't bad either.
can this test GFCI and AFCI, american system?

Can you play Super Mario on it
Can you export it to niceic? Because would make life so much easier
No. Just to the megger cert suite
That sounds far too sensible a function.
I make a point of never getting the new version of any product as typically you become an unpaid beta tester.
toys are us that’s what it looks like I am happy with 1741+
0292 Nelda Curve
shame it's a crappy tft screen
Mega video lads! Hahaha ha.
The battery life is the only negative sadly 😢
Its a monopoly they created to compete with Metrel's 3155 really. pointless!
battery hog
£1600. Lmao 🤣
Sorry, wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. Looks like a Fisher Price kids toy to me. I'll stick with the 1741 and the bomb-proof 1552.
Yes, but what about EV charging ?
@@jeremykemp3782 Wouldn't touch EV. Too much hassle. But the 1741+ will do that if you're a glutton for punishment.
Hear hear
