There you go conjuring those insane skills. You are truly talented, there's no one here to teach me so I'm on my own.

When I finished watching your excellent review and read the comments I noticed that the next video up on my feed was Lincoln Hensley’s update on Sonny’s Granada 9584-2 and it’s up coming sale to a new caretaker. Lincoln played it. I was astounded, gobsmacked even by the uncanny similarity in the sound of both. I urge anyone interested in the Grandee to pull up Lincoln’s video and see for yourself. Just wow.

Gabe that must've been very satisfying to have been part of developing an instrument. On yer, mate!

Great review, Gabe. I can really hear the crack of each note surrounded by a lot of depth (if that makes sense), and yes, I got a great sound system coupled to my desk top computer so that doesn't hurt either (LOL). I got two quick questions for you, however: 1) is the fingerboard made of ebony or something else? and 2) is the wood finish a nitrocellulose lacquer or a synthetic? Thanks in advance for answering these questions, and again, great review!

The fingerboard is ebony. The classic Granada's would have had rosewood, but I'm not sure how difficult that would be for them to use considering the CITES rules. As for the finish, I'm actually not sure. Whatever it is is looks nice. I'll have to check in with them about that.

I love my OB-250 with the JLS12. I REALLY want one of these Grandees but alas, they aren’t available in a lefty model yet. Can your influence get me one made? lol

Hi Gabe. I have really enjoyed your videos and I am going to purchase either the Gold Tone OB-3 Twanger or possibly, the Gold Tone OB Standard. Question, would you say that the OB Standard is essentially the same as the Grandee? My thought is that the Grandee is more expensive due to the gold. Thank You.

I like an inlay below the nut. It just looks empty there.

I have an OB300. Its maple but with a lot of inlay. You think that is a decent banjo? I also have a Deering Golden Wreath that I like but I have never compared either to actual Gibson banjos

Is it actual gold plated or a form of copper/chemical color? I recall one or two forign made instruments that were sold as gold plated but after a while of playing and sweat the color turned (similar to fake gold rings). Just curious, Ive been on the verge of buying a 87 Gibson Scruggs model and possible a Granada, came across this and may end up getting this one. Thanks for the video!

@@gabehirshfeld8688 if you had to pick tone wise, would it be this one or the 250+ with the JLS tone ring?

      The Grandee by far.

@@gabehirshfeld8688 last question, what would the sound comparison be? Ive tried listening to different videos, but the + seems to have more resinence and the grandee seems to have overall mellow tone but I havnt been able to find a grandee to compare in person

@gabehirshfeld8688, where does this rank on your list of your favorite banjos you own? I've always been curious if you had to live with only one banjo, what that said banjo would be.

I’ve bought and sold around 8 of those old Gold Stars from the late 70’s - early 80’s. Great banjos!
