      Thank you 😊, honestly right it's really easy to do this, eventually I will add some mouvement and slow motion, the biggest difficulty I have/had is the environment in my appartment. Was trying to find a space without object around it, a place when you record you don't get distracted by the decor, that is the key. Just a simple white wall would be perfect

    Really enjoying this series. There is definitely satisfaction in designing something yourself and making it work. The struggles make success that much better.
    I agree with others that your video skills are very good. This style of video is much more cinematic compared to a normal vlog.
    I am still working thru the series but I hope you win something because you definitely deserve it.

    Any chance you had a control sample you sent in with the tank ICP sample? (i.e. newly made saltwater not exposed to the black sand yet) Also, did you happen to run through your sand with some neodymium rare earth magnets? (wondering if magnetic flecks had been isolated from general composition or not)

    • @AquaSplendor
      @AquaSplendor  4 роки тому +2

      Sorry not sure to understand your question, the black sand contain iron, so i didn't want to use magnet for cleaning. You can see my video with black sand comparison on my channel

    • @diacanthusreef3609
      @diacanthusreef3609 4 роки тому +1

      I meant as in an ICP test sample from your freshly mixed saltwater that had not been exposed to the black sand in the display yet (mostly as a baseline for comparison between the display water and water change water to see just how much of those levels was caused by the sand)
      As to the magnetic sand fines, thats a my bad. I, for whatever reason my brain decided to interject from thin air, thought you ended up using the CaribSea hawaiian black after you got the non-mislabeled package of discontinued indo-pacific mix. With that sand, running through it with a strong magnet in a plastic bag removes A LOT of the particularly problematic magnetic fines. In general, the idea behind running a magnet through your sand before introduction to the reef display tank is it takes care of any *magnetic* metal flecks left from processing machinery contamination and general environment contamination for water chemistry reasons. It's my understanding it also helps remove some of the risk associated with flipper magnets and sand mediums with potential magnetic flecks in it as well (I can't speak to this personally, I pretty strictly stick to 100% melamine sponges as I keep acrylic displays). Didn't realize it was EcoComplete you used so I can't say if the same applies as it contains quite a bit of iron (amongst other metals) as it's used for planted tanks.

    • @AquaSplendor
      @AquaSplendor  4 роки тому +2

      No I didn't do an ICP Test just of the water, that why I use the tropic marin pro salt, its controlled, i would have care of that if I was using my other salt like the red sea. I which icp test provide a 3rd sample for ro/di water only. I've done an icp test on another tank and the results are not even close to this one with black sand. At the same time, the results make perfect sens, it's what what I/we should expect. I just wanted to be really safe since I documents everything on this tank

    • @AquaSplendor
      @AquaSplendor  4 роки тому +2

      Because I tested another tank before and I use tropic marin salt which controlled. Also because it make sens, the eco completed is good for planted tank, and what we saw was good for macro algae

    • @AquaSplendor

      Yeah, the more that piece of acrylic is down the less the surface want to go in, it seem there is a certain amount of friction/tension needed.

    Ahhh you're going backwards man! Lol I guess it's totally your call to make the change but I think you may have over reacted. I used the CaribSea Aragalive Hawaii Black Gravel 8 weeks ago to start my tank and have have no issues. Not sure if that was the substrate you used. Had my ugly stage at about the 3-4 week mark and it was gone in 5 days because I used various products from Brightwell Aquatics to combat it. Had it come back once again for about 7 days recently but it's because I was over feeding my corals. Once again Brightwell to the rescue and it's back to crystal clear again. It's too bad you changed. I love the black substrate look. Tank still looks good though! Love watching your videos. Why didn't you use a vacuum when you were cutting?? If I would have known the Duetto was so small I would have went with that over the Reef Breeders ATO. Looks good tho man 👌🏻I can see you really like to tinker!

    • @AquaSplendor
      @AquaSplendor  4 роки тому +2

      You right, might over react but since that tank is for a competition I prefered taking methods that work well, better safe than sorry. Hopefully from now on everything will be alright, crossing fingers, thx for your feedback, i might try black sand another time, love the look.

    I wouldnt show a questionable method of surface skimming to the masses. Although that was a good way to increase height of water in the display, nice thinking! You know how many people are about to flood their homes? These AIOs are meant 90% for newer reefers. So half of them are about to be screamed at by their significant other and the other half are about to pay if they live on a second floor apartment complex. Only 1-2 gallons though.
    Increase water agitation, lower display water height to the designed level. Approximately .5-1" below tank rim.
    And will need a skimmer to pull the organic material out or willl likely continue.

  • @xXPinkPunisherXx
    @xXPinkPunisherXx 4 роки тому +2

    The problem isn't so much your overflow intake as it is your return pump is oversized by comparison. Lower the return pumps flow and you will get better surface skimming through your overflow, assuming you keep that acrylic piece to block the water from being sucked in at the bottom of the overflow. This is why I don't like overflows with teeth as they result in poor surface skimming due to the water rushing in under the surface. If you need to keep the flow strong in the display while keeping the return pump turned down, purchase a flow eductor for your bulkhead, it will increase the water flow without requiring the pump to be stronger due to it pulling in water as it pushes it out of the eductor.
    Edit: Jeeez or just butcher the whole thing.. the problem was the pump not the entire rest of the tank man! You could see you had too much flow out of the pump based on the sand all being blasted out of the far corner in the first place..

    • @AquaSplendor
      @AquaSplendor  4 роки тому +1

      Thx for the feedback, i played with the return, put it at the minimum, it didn't change anything, got worse actually. I just needed to create enough surface tension/aspiration. There's a ratio flow/surface tension. Work great now👍

    • @AquaSplendor
      @AquaSplendor  3 роки тому

      No the film will always be there. The pump is stronger than what I need also, If I push more water will drop from the aquarium.
      It just needs a path of force/sucking/tension towards the input

    • @AquaSplendor
      @AquaSplendor  4 роки тому +1

      Yes and No. Yes by 2mm (Might cutted a bit too much), so the water want to drop.. No because the inflow bar go too deep so I was collecting more water from under the surface, which is the major cause. When I added the acrylic sheet to block the bottom it worked much better.

    • @soempaing2436

      Aqua Splendor I also build two of my nano tanks this way. First I set my desire water level around 1inch from the rim. Then I set the overflow holes lowest point to 0.25 cm below which is 1.25inch from the rim. Then you have to set the baffle length to 1.5"below that point which is around 2.75" from the rim. Anyway I love your tank dimensions. I live in tropical area so these tanks are a pain to setup because they need chiller to cool the water.
