  • I like to space out my videos, but I had to get this one over with - this has got to be one of the worst professional matches I've ever seen. Definitely one of Dementieva's worst matches and probably the worst quality highlights reel I ever made lmao
    Still, happy for Asagoe that she got such a nice win at her home tournament.

    Shinobu was a likeable player - no remarkable weapons but pretty solid all round and always seemed to have a nice disposition on court.

    I've said it on other videos of ex WTA Japanese players but it's amazing how similar all their gamestyles were! Most had very short take backs, flat contact point, zero spin. Date Krumm, Asagoe, Morigami etc all had this style which made them really dangerous on slick courts.

      Elena actually beat Morigami before losing to Asagoe here. This was just a really bad day in the office...

      @@chriscze6153 I actually like Asagoe, she was a decent top 50ish player for a long time. Always remember her epic and frankly ludicrously dramatic match against Hantuchova at Wimbledon 2003.
      Those were the days!

    Thank you, thank you, thank you, you are a wonderful human being ;) I was always fond of Dementieva, she was, and still is, my favourite tennis player. I've gone through your channel and I can see that you also liked players I admired (of course Elena was always on top). I really enjoyed Schnyder's craftiness and I saw your comments about her and I suppose you were also fan of her. I also really liked seeing in action Ai Sugiyama and Paola Suarez, does anyone rememeber them? :) good old time with a lot of charismatic players :)

    Some audiences said ahh〜 before the judges, besides Ms, Shinobu hit the balls in. It makes no sense..

    Often was cheering for the opponent 2004 onwards but dementieva has a type of groundstroke that was deadly because they were unrelenting, she retired far too soon

    Yet another chapter of Elena vs [insert random counter puncher]. When Elena is on, she usually beats them unless they can drag out the match and force her to overhit. When she's off, they usually draw enough unforced errors from her to beat her or make the match unnecessarily long.
    This Asagoe woman's forehand kind of reminds me of Mauresmo, although Amelie hit it with a lot more top spin.

    Maybe it's better she lost here, she just would have been beaten by Sharapova in the next round.

    • @chriscze6153
      @chriscze6153  2 роки тому

      I sometimes wonder in retrospect if she had some of these bizarre losses because she just wasn't up for facing a Sharapova type in the next round. A similar scenario is Paris 2006, you'll see soon how badly she played against Patty, I wonder if she just wasn't up for facing Pierce in the semi? Also true for San Diego 2007, I didn't see the semi yet, but it was a brilliant opportunity to make the final but she would have lost to Sharapova. Also true for LA 05....a definite loss to Kim.

      @@chriscze6153I never felt like Dementieva was dodging Sharapova back in the day.
      Seriously…when you look at their H2H she took her lashing more than once and seemed perfectly fine with it cause she knew Sharapova was a better player, I mean, she lost many matches over Maria pretty badly so one more or one less.
      On another note, I’d like to point that Serena dodged Sharapova plenty of times back in 2005 after Australian and 2006.
      Her losses to Hantuchova in Australia 2006 and her loss to Venus in Miami 2005 were clearly calculated. She really wasn’t feeling like playing Sharapova back then because she wasn’t gonna beat her.
