- Crayola recently released a set of new water-based markers that they call “Doodle Markers”. I purchased two of the sets at my local Target store for around $10 US each. I got the Dual-Ended and Color-Change sets. So are these new Crayola markers any good? And how do they differ from all of the other Crayola marker lines? (Hint, the Color-Change markers are some art supplies you didn’t know you needed.)

Yes, Crayola had color changing markers when I was a kid (A LONG time ago, in the late 90s). I remember begging my mom for them and she finally bought them for me and they were so cool. They were like typical kids markers except they had a special magic marker that you used to draw over the other markers and that magic marker made it change colors. It also came with another marker that had the magic ink, but you could do dots or something with it? The color change was different than these, it looked more florescent. I loved them.
Yes, I remember them too they had a separate marker to change all the colors. Although I was a kid in the 50s

If you do the color change as stripes going vertically instead of horizontally, with some space between, then it will make a checkered pattern. They can also be used for details.

What happens if you put the cool color down first & then add the warm end?
Seeing you coloring a page with these would be very interesting! I think it might be a bit of a challenge to know which color combos and order of coloring to use, but I know Jennifer can pull it off!
Yes, color with these! Some would be awesome for autumn trees. Others would make an amazing undersea world or forest fauna. The possibilities!
Gray, the "a" is for America; grey, the "e" is for England - little trick that helps me to remember which to use. So for me, while I don't live in England, it's grey here. Both are fine though, we're using American spellings more and more frequently across the pond, so whichever floats your boat is all good.
I can see flowers and butterflies being good to color in with the changer markers.

That's what I was wondering also.
They did have markers that changed colors 20 years ago. They were called Magic Markers and came in a round container. I got them for my youngest daughter when she was 10 for Christmas. We had a lot of fun with them.
It's cute. It's a way for kids to learn how their primary colors change when mixed if the need a certain color when they dont have an already box full of colors with them on hand, it's what teachers teach for 1st graders. The primary color wheel with paints and all. This way is a very clean way of doing it. Thumbs up👍

The idea of dual-tipped Crayola markers reminds me vaguely of these two-tone, probably white-barrel ones I think I had as a kid. That and the Tombow Twintone, which I love a lot today.

You should definitely do a colouring page with the mixes. I would love to see you try to colour an actual picture with mixing. You would need to take special consideration with layering but it would be interesting to see.

Got a set of The Raccoons Pen Pals Change Color markers for Christmas back in the 80’s. They were put out by CBC Enterprises. Made in Italy. 12 pens - 10 colored & 2 white changer - 20 colors overall. Barrel of pen shows colors - solid =main & dots =changed. Some still work but of course not as good as originally.

I had color change markers a long time ago and they are FUN.
I hope you will do a coloring page with the color change markers.
I think a fantasy/sci-fi picture would work well because you could maybe imagine you've got a fairy or some other creature that lives on another planet, so any colors that happen could be thought of as "natural to that planet."
Maybe look at the 80's cartoon She-Ra; The story takes place on a world called Etheria. If you go look at that cartoon and study the background, you find the trees have pink or violet foliage, and the trunks of the trees are blue.
Also in the other closely related show He-man, you have Cringer, the tiger who is green with orange stripes.
Not telling you what to do, just hoping to give some inspiration!

I'm pretty sure there have been multiple iterations of color-changing markers but I seem to recall only ones with their classic fat bullet form and a separate changer marker.
The ultramarine looked like the crayon color midnight blue, my favorite crayon as a kid, way back in the early 1960’s. The first yellow looks like goldenrod to me. These are amazing.

I live in the US and was taught in school, way back in the 1970s, that grey/gray were interchangeable. I preferred grey so have always used it. It's only been in the last 10 years or so that I learned that gray is the American way. That vivid pink color is spelled fuchsia. Our brains want that s to be before the ch! I don't know that I'll purchase them, but the markers do look like fun and I'm loving all the creative uses I'm reading in the comments
Neat markers, I think they would be good for adding dots, detail, etc. to the underlying color. Would like to see you color with them.

We did checker designs, lines and doodles with the Magic Markers. I think you could do some really cool stuff with them coloring.

I love skinwalker ranch!!! The color changing could be very useful in adult coloring. I can see coloring leaves, clothing, mandalas etc…The undertones could be so cool on leaves and leave great highlights on clothing. I’m very intrigued with these! Thank you for showing them.

These color changing Crayola markers are so much fun. I'm not sure adult colorists would have a lot use for them, except to play around with (bc you choose your colors for particular areas of your image and why would you want change?) But kids would really have fun with them!
