It could be that your parents used either an egg or a sperm donor. Infertility used to be a super taboo topic (not that it's not anymore). If you're an adult now, your parents probably would've had lots of pressure not to talk about fertility issues with anyone, and doctors used to even make parents promise not to tell their kids they were donor conceived. If you're not sure, it could be worth taking a test or having a conversation about it with your parents, if for no other reason than to make sure your medical history is accurate.

This is actually more common than people realize. It may also be worth discussing with mom because it’s possible that his parents used sperm donors (knowingly, haha). I’ve had a number of clients who found out their biological father was someone else, but ended up that dad couldn’t have kids and the parents had used a sperm donor. But it is crazy how many parents have gotten away with never telling their child that they were adopted, had a different biological father, etc. Best that parents be honest now than have the child find out on their own through DNA testing like this guy and so many other people…

I think a likely scenario is being glossed over - it's possible that his father was infertile and that his parents knowingly got sperm donors for their kids, and that could be why each sibling has a different bio-dad? Because a friend's mom had the same exact scenario happen to her and her sister, and when they confronted their mother about it they found out that it wasnt a cheating scenario, but rather an infertility one, and that grandma and grandpa never brought it up because back then DNA tests were like... Not a thing, and by the time ancestry tests came around it was far too late and oftentimes forgotten.
I do appreciate this dude's attitude of "it doesnt change anything about my situation, so whatever" instead of jumping to conclusions. A sit down conversation with their mom is probably in order though, just for clarity if nothing else. And hopefully do it while dad is still alive, so that if it IS an infertility story, their mom can pull dad into the conversation to reassure them

My brother has known for all three of our lives that we each have a different father. We were raised knowing that my oldest brother is our half brother, but were not told until last year that we ALL have different dads. My mom didn't cheat- my other siblings were born before they got married (I think before they even met?) but were still babies when they did so they were unaware. So I'm the only one of my siblings that was raised actually knowing my father. I was kinda fucked up over being lied to my whole life, but it didn't really change how I view my siblings. If you find out you're not your father's child, I highly recommend reaching out to your biological family. I've yet to reunite a family where the dad and his family weren't 100% happy to be contacted. I understand not telling your father the truth, especially if he's older, but that doesn't mean you can't contact your biological father (or your siblings, cousins, grandparents, etc). Allow them to know you and yourself the opportunity to know them. Don't dismiss the opportunity to connect with them with thoughts of "Ah. I'm too old to do this," or "They probably don't care." You can never have too many people to love!
