Chad, I deeply want to thank you for walking us through the color correction and color grading process and conveying it all in an easy to follow and understand fashion! It is the first time that anyone on UA-cam has been patient and thorough enough to allow the viewer time to follow and grasp these processes. Most other UA-camrs try to fly through these steps without explanation and expect all to keep up or be lost. You have a true gift to teach! Thank you for taking your time and sharing. I hope that you put out more similar instruction videos on how to use Final Cut Pro X and others. I have a ton of video editing that I am excited about and will now apply your color correction and color grading methods on, because of you! A great big thank you or as they say in Acadian French Un Grand Merci! Ed W Nova Scotia, Canada
Ed, your comment expresses all that I wanted to say, though you said it better than I think I would. I so appreciate Chad's method of explanation much more than the tons of others I've watched. I come away feeling that I understand it, and now just want to try it! Thank you. Greetings (bonjour) to you and to Chad from Upper Canada.
I really want to thank you both for your kind words. It means a lot for creators to hear such positive feedback rather than the negative all the time. I also welcome the constructive criticism too. Without it, there would be no growth or improvement. I try to put out content to help viewers maximize the capabilities of your drones rather than just flying them around. Again...thank you both. Because without supporters like you, there would be no channel. 👍🏾
Cheers for taken the time to make these videos . I've just bought a dji air 2s but haven't a clue how to use the camera and all its features. Watching these 2 videos have opened my eyes some what to what I could actually achieve if I put the time and effort in . Top man and keep them coming 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Thanks for a going through each step from both videos. No one has shown me how these tools work. They just assume I know how to do it. Cheers. New sub for sure.
Recently I was thinking about getting into a little color grading and I happened across your video, Just wanted to say the way you explained it even i understood so just wanted to say GOOD JOB and THANKS for the great start
Such a streamlined and well structured tutorial, not to mention the great execution and lovely footage to accompany it. More than earned your sub, hope a lot more people will follow your content!
Very nice both of these videos (part1&2) that you shared with us, thank you very much! (I found your channel very valuable, I subscribed and will definitely watch your other videos..) Sometime at the end you put costum lut how can we find these lut? Thank you again!
Hello, excellent teaching, for those of us who are starting, I will use a translator ,,, I have a question ,,, Would you know what Rec 709 is? Is it the same as a Dlog or dcinelike profile of dji drones? What is it used for in a clip ,,, and finally, to apply the LUTS do you have to make a minimum color correction before or after applying them? Since we are starting, thank you, greetings from Colombia!
Great tutorial video Chad, especially for users who just getting started with color correction grading. Nice job with the video, and thanks for sharing.
Very well done. You made things easier to understand. I have a question for you. I use Davinci resolve, do you know where I can learn to color grade videos in Davinci?
Thanks...I just search on youtube for how to color grade on my specific editing software. I started with the basics. I know @dronexfactor has a recent color grade video specifically for Davinci Resolve
Hello Chad, First thank you for your two UA-cam video on color grading! Second, can you show us how to color grade without a lut? FYI, I noticed on your FCPX that you had a ton of luts, which I don’t find on my version. Do your custom luts come with the downloaded adjustment layers? If not, where can someone acquire some to try? Again, thank you for sharing, as you have been very helpful! Ed W. Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada
You're Welcome. I will try to get a video out on manual color grading sometime in the future. Final Cut Pro does not Provide LUTs so you would have to purchase your own and upload them to FCP. You can find them anywhere. Many creators make their own LUTs and sell them. You should be able to find LUTs at the link I provide for the Adjustment Layers. You can also find some free one out there too. On the other hand, FCP does provide color Presets you can add to your footage. You can find those in the effects tab.
@@ChadB Thanks Chad for your prompt reply. I will look forward to your next video on color grading. I will look for luts online. I also plan on making some luts myself(once I get better at it of course). Ed W
Hi Chad. Seems pretty complicated to me. One problem I have, is people always compare the color corrected dlog to dlog itself. But anything is going to be better than dlog, because that's very washed out. A better comparison, would be against hasselblad h265. I usually use corel video studio, but I don't think it has this type of color correction.
lol...haven't really touched the complicated parts of this. This is as basic as I can was able to show it. I thought giving a basic explanation of the differences of Correction and Grading and the Scopes would help the those who don't normally use D-log. The D-log of the Mavic 3 seems to be flatter. I think @FlytPath made a comparison video on that.
I have a Mavic Pro (classic) and that's very similar to my process, just that I use curves instead, but image always get little noisy as if had increased the iso when recording, but I didn't. Could it be the quality of my filter or is just that mavic pro cannot get such a beautiful image using d-log? Should I upgrade to a new drone?
The sensor on the original Mavic Pro is the same as the Mini 2, but its older tech. The image quality in general will not be as good as today's drones.
@@DanielHerrera-nx5sw If you are going to switch to a Mini Drone, wait and see what the Mini 3 has to offer. But if you need to switch now, the Mini 2 is good too.
@@ChadB Oh nice! I was considering upgrading to the M1 Mac Mini as well then last week I noticed Apple released the Mac Studio so I now I doing the research on that one.

As a videographer you did a very good job breaking down simple colour grading and adding luts. You do a great job compiling the video as a whole!

Rec 709 is a color space which is closest to the natural look of things. Dlog and dcinelike are flat color profiles on the camera
good job man gave me some inspiration 👏
