The recording starts at 1:07 and finishes at 3:48pm that's 2 hours 41 minutes travelling to an incident and still never arrived! Where was it Scarborough?
In the first bit the pump is heading out of Hunstanton East towards Brantingham and without any explanation we're then heading West past Norfolk Lavender Farms and then left at the lights towards Sedgeford, through Docking then towards Stanhoe before the clip finished...bit of an anti-climax I have to say. I may be from Manchester but I do know my way around that place.
Mercedes in front, judging from the flash light in the windscreen looks like film taken from a Dennis, which by 98 would have been a reserve pump as they where being phased out by then. The Merc's gone too now, ironically Heacham had Norfolk's last Merc in service, ex Norwich City and Dereham P738PNG replaced in 2014 by ex Holt Scania AO02UXU.
Shame it ended. I was really enjoying that! Never did get to find out if Hunstanton overtook Heacham! I doubt it; it's not the done thing, even back then. And I was looking forward to them booking in attendance, and seeing the incident. Bet it was a tractor!!! Were these Dodge Ks by any chance? And what was wrong with the two-tones?
YelpBullhorn no we don’t overtake other trucks on the way to calls unless it is agreed and for a very good reason. I can’t remember what the call was. It was a Mercedes 1222 appliance. There are continental style 2 tones and conventional which they are switching over
Its possible to pass an ajoining station on the way to an incident...with a rather fly Sub/O And an even more calculting driver. Generally it involves telling control that said appliance has a rear locker open, control calls them up and said smirky other crew drive past
Darren Harlow thank you. The continental 2 tones that we had on that truck as well as the conventional ones sounded strange but people heard them because they were mounted on the grille of the appliance and not the roof.
Those electrical two tones are awful! They weren't used that much in the UK and then usually with police forces back in the 70's (who generally quickly dumped them for air horns or electronic sirens) - never heard them on a fire engine before (in the UK at least, more a German thing at one time). Very surprised that by the late 90's anything current had them - it was usually air two's only, electronic siren only, or both.
I miss the old two tones, wish we brought them back
Love the Two Tone Air Horns. Bring them back please.
Just imagine that same run, over 100 years ago with a pair of horse drawn steamers!!!
I remember the week I learnt to drive back in the early 1990's North Walsham turned their appliance over.
It was actually a spare they turned over.
Really I didn't realise that, I was trying to remember the name of my driving instructor based at Hethersett
My grandad was the driver of this appliance back then
When you were on this call, I was enjoying school summer holidays waiting to start my third year (year 9) at North Walsham High School.

Chris Pearson Both the trucks were Mercedes 1222s. We had them for quite a few years.

So why was the engine heading towards holkam then turning left at the lavender crossing?
