Hi there Pastor. I am an Avenged Sevenfold fan, and I am also a regular church goer. I literally had this video pop up in my list of recommendations, and I have to say, while you did talk a lot during the song, I did enjoy your reaction to the song.
I don't know if this is your first time listening to Avenged Sevenfold, but I would highly recommend that you do a little bit of research into the band. While Avenged Sevenfold is not a religious band, they do take a lot of inspiration from the Bible, from their name, to their songs, to even the album titles of their first 3 album's. Sounding the Seventh Trumpet (album name) is the final judgement of God during the 7 year tribulation; waking the fallen (album name and song name) I interpret as pertaining to the rapture; the bands name, Avenged Sevenfold, is drawn from God punishing Cain by sending him out into the world, and anyone that helps him out will suffer Avenged Sevenfold.

Church going Christian and avenged sevenfold fan here too. Totally agree with you, a7x draws a lot of inspiration from Christianity and the bible. They also use lots of metaphors AND perspective taking, sometimes taking the perspective of people who have rejected God which is why some songs are written such that they paint God and Christian values in a negative light. But that’s the beauty of it, taking the perspective of sinners makes their lyrics really interesting.

Pastor doesnt dip into Revelations? well, sounds like he only likes to preach what the congregation wants to hear. Revelations is the best part of the entire scripture.. understanding where sin takes a person is more interesting that what happens when a person lives scared, timid, and naive of their sins. Revelations is a completely badass story of the end, and is worthy of reading

I grew up in a very religious household as well. My grandfather was the head pastor of our church and my grandmother taught Sunday school. I always wanted an ordained pastor's reaction to this song, especially the references it makes directly to scripture in the book of Revelation.
I am quite disappointed that you didn't prepare at all for a song called "Beast and the Harlot" by brushing up on your studies of that book. What else could that have possibly meant? There is so much you could have talked about! Is Babylon the Great really representing Rome, as the Pre-reformation church believed, with its' seven hills (heads of the beast)? Is it the Catholic church itself, as Seventh Day Adventists believe? What of the ten horns, representing ten kings? Revelations says that they are not actual kings, with no real kingdoms, but that they have the power of kings.
You don't have to guess or assume these things. The scripture explains the metaphor pretty well, if you read it. You were so busy talking about how you don't know the research, that we didn't get a legitimate reaction to the song, either. Is this an advertisement for Babylon, or a warning? What do you think A7X was trying to get across with this song? How could a song so entrenched in biblical scripture be so successful when typically modern metal music shies away from that kind of imagery?
I'm just saying, a little more thought put into this would have been appreciated. This song, this band, even, has a lot of potential for discussion from a theological standpoint.

Hello Pastor. I have listened to several readings and read Revelation myself a few times, and I understand there is a blessing to anybody who reads and understands it. Just give it a try sometime. Also, in response to Bankai Phoenix Reactions, you should know by now that we live in a fallen world. Any musical artist that gets super famous while on a label most likely did so because they sold their souls for fame and wealth. That's how they can make millions of dollars while quoting scripture and it's not pro-Christian. "What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?"

    Semper Fi!
    Thank you for your service!
My father was a marine, but told me he would disown me if I joined, something about being hard headed and offended by authority without reason. He was probably right.
I do have issues with authority. Especially when that authority goes unchecked and bends the will of people to suit their own wishes.
I am not a religious man. I lost my faith when my grandmother was taken from us by alzhiemers. What a cruel disease!
I am however a Buddhist, but very far from perfect. Still, I am always respectful of others beliefs, just as long as their beliefs don't include causing harm to the innocent. That's exactly the point and time where I draw the line.
Harm a child or animal in my presence, and I will have to act. Even if that means severe punishment under the laws of man. Apologies. I got distracted by the news in the background. My mother watches the news 24/7, so even though I try to block it out, I am in a rage over the slaughter of all these innocent children.
I don't even have any kids, but this thing is so horrific that it has me in tears.
Literally breaking down and crying. This is a new feeling for me. I very rarely cry. I can tell you that I cried when I lost my grandma, her name was Nettie.
My grandpa, his name was Carlos. My Pops, his name Freeman. My little brother Jason, who was also my best friend. I couldn't cry during that madness. I had to make sure the rest of the family kept it together, at least until after the funeral. That was the most painful two weeks of my life. It wasn't until I got my mom on the flight back home, and as I was driving home, Imagine by John Lennon played on the radio. I ended up getting a ticket for parking on the side of 101.
I had to pull over. I would've wrecked and maybe killed someone. After that, I didn't listen to any music, or play my guitar because we played together whenever we were together, and if we weren't playing guitar, we were listening to music. He was a brilliant guitar player, and was taking jazz at University of San Jose when he drowned. When he was 9, and I was 14, he got interested in guitar, as I had just bought one and was learning how to play, and of course I was an asshole then and wouldn't let him even touch it. Then one day I caught him in my room playing my guitar! I wanted to be pissed, but then I realized how long his fingers were, I'd just never noticed. We had different fathers. His father gifted him with fingers that were made to play piano/guitar. My father gifted me with hands that were made to build and repair things.
I couldn't afford a piano, we were poor. But, for his 10th birthday, I did get him a cheap used guitar and amp from the same pawn shop that I got mine from. It was cheap, but sounded pretty good. He was so thrilled to have his own. I taught him four chords.
After a few months he was better than me! I never caught up with him, but he taught me much.
And he always pushed me to play more.
I really miss that kid. He was 33, but still my kid brother.
But even though I loved them all dearly, I was confused about the fact that it took awhile before I actually cried. It was over a year after pop's died. Something that surprised me when I was a young man though, one of my best friends Scott and I went to every rock/metal concert that came any where close to us. We had seen OZZY and Metallica Master of Puppets tour together. That was July 86, in September called me and told me that Cliff Burton was killed when their tour bus crashed. I cried right then. Strange, how someone I'd never met before had such an impact on me.
If you're still reading this, then thank you for letting me vent and release my angst. This is the only form of therapy that I have.
    Be safe out there!

If the pastor could just wait until the end to give his analysis that would be so much better received. Or hat bro could pause it and you could dialogue (I’m pretty sure he didn’t say anything the whole video). I think it would also be worthwhile to have a reaction video and a separate one where you’ve actually researched instead of talking off the top of your head; you have a vid for how a song makes you FEEL and a separate for what it makes you THINK. This way those of us that want to hear what The Word says or how religious history is referenced could watch that, too, and you’ll get people that genuinely care about your analysis. Just my $0.02.

Paid For The official channel I will certainly do that. I listen to nearly all music with different filters. One other thing I think may be of value: people claim Christian Metal is/is not the work of the enemy. It would be really neat to actually hear thoughts about different Christian Metal bands’ songs as well as secular songs.

I don’t think the song is trying to reference any biblical scriptures. I think it’s just a song they made to describe a harlot using biblical terms “beast” “Babylon”

Hahaha hey pastor thanks for giving this a listen. I’d love to hear you try Nanking by exodus. It’s not a religious song, but a story of the Chinese. In 1937 japan invaded China and this song is an account t of that.

How the hell can you call this a reaction video when dude decides not to even listen to it, and instead gives a damn sermon through the whole song???
He just saw the name of the song and said "here is an opportunity to do the opposite of what you want and try to shove my own beliefs down your throat."
And dude next to him doesn't look happy at all!!!!!

I believe that New Babylon is mentioned in Revelations.
Also if you look at the name of the band, "Avenged Sevenfold", pretty sure that goes back to Genesis, after Cain slew Able, and God gave him the mark and sent him out to the land of Nod. Caine was afraid that anyone who found him would kill him. God said of anyone that harmed Cain, that harm would be avenged sevenfold (re-paid seven times).
Paraphrasing of course. I'm no theological scholar. Or I could have totally missed it.

Not reacting to the song but just talking about revelations. Not even talking about the lines sung but talks about lines he does know and remembers. Would have loved if you would pause to let your thoughts out and go back into the song and react to the song and not just react to the bible.
